Review: After releasing two installments last year, the Studio R collective commit themselves to a triple-pack release that quite frankly lays waste to the competition when it comes to contemporary house and techno compilations. With a cast that includes Fred P, Brendon Moeller, DJ Spider, Hakim Murphy and Exercise One, you can't argue with the quality of the work. There's a range of moods on offer but everything resides in the murkier corners of 4/4, and with a definite floor-focused quality to each of the creations, there's a lot of mileage to be gained from investing in this bumper pack of 12 solid jams.

The label says the Italian-born, London-based DJ/producer was inspired by "distant memories, fairy-tales, and transcendental experiences. Review: 0860 is a project by Charlie Fieber, aka Fracture, inspired by London Pirate Radio. Thus far the series has seen to the release of cassettes, vinyl records and radio broadcasts, largely consisting of jungle tunes peppered with electrifying samples from legitimately old pirate radio broadcasts. There's something mystically captivating about the narration of jungle and drum & bass by its makers. Broadcast to everyone who drove cars or owned an FM radio, drum n' bass in the 1990s was one of many sonic languages that expressed manufactured, industrial movement, and by speaking over it, it renegade makers were essentially guiding us through the magic. South American legend DJ Marky opens with a nice silky roller and a soulful vocal that will immediately get the good times going. Data 3's 'String Theory' is a more minimal and stripped-back stepper and then it's all-out good time celebrations with the kinetic 'Patty Melt' from Random Movement. Review: You will probably know by now that Detroit's Filthiest is Julian Shamou, aka 313 Bass Mechanics amongst many other names. He is a music-making machine who deals mostly with electro on a wide range of labels. It is French crew Casa Voyager who tap him up here for an immersive full-length that finds him expanding his sound to take in moments away from the heart of a peak-time dancefloor amongst plenty of his usual weaponry. There are smooth electro vocal cuts, crunchy and sleazy ghetto cuts and soulful almost jungle rollers for deeper workouts making for his most complete work yet.

Review: Spanish label Fundamental come through with a ltd edition of their highly prized DMX Krew LP. Hand-numbered red transparent vinyl 2xLP in silkscreen printed sleeve. 100 copies only! Ed Upton's been on prolific form this year for sure, with 100 Tears his fourth DMX Krew long player of 2014 following outings on Shipwrec, Mystic & Quantum and Luke Eargoggle's Stilleben Records. The twelve tracks here really demonstrate that Upton is a grand master of electro whatever the tempo, and are apparently the result of him working with just a few synths and a drum machine as opposed to his full studio whilst in the midst of moving house. For most people this would be a stressful process, for Ed Upton the situation has resulted in a sublime, masterful album!

Review: Mark Broom is a techno veteran, but just because he enjoys that sot of status doesn't mean he has lost his edge. He proves that here with a hefty new record on Radio Salve's mighty Rekids. It bangs from the off with his signature heavy drums defining each of the tracks across all four sides of vinyl. '100% Juice' is peak time tackle with incendiary hit hats and loopy synths, 'Slush' is a head melter with more warped lines and elsewhere 'Wonky Workout' does exactly what says on the tin. There is a brilliantly unsettling and eerie vibe to 'Boxed In' and straight up dance floor fire in 'Wiggle Me This.'

Review: Sebastian Mullaert is a real master of depth and atmosphere. He has been for many years and his WaWuWe project is some of his deepest stuff. Here he offers serene techno for late night motorway driving, underwater dub to get utterly lost in and spacious grooves that journey on the most deft and subtle of synths. This is meditative, heady music for thoughtful moments of escapism. The package is jut as special as the music here - it is a double, black, 180 gram 12" sheathed inside a custom cut and full colour printed hansaboard sleeve.

Review: We've become accustomed to hearing Donato Dozzy in full-on moody techno mode, so this gorgeously sun-kissed set of ambient compositions is a pleasing turn up for the books. The assembled tracks started life as a sound installation for 24 speakers, inspired by, and placed on, Rome's "Music Bridge". For this reason, many of the tracks include some form of musical movement - think Tangerine Dream style synthesizer arpeggio lines, Reichian style minimalist melodic cycles etc - while others seem to urge us to pause from breath and take in the view. Others draw influence from Indian percussion and instrumentation or swell like the water that flows beneath the bridge that inspired the music. Throughout, the results are little less than spellbinding.

Review: It's been 10 years since Alix Perez blessed the world with his debut album "1984". To celebrate, Shogun Audio are re-releasing the album with all tracks available on vinyl for the first time and it sounds every bit as good as you'd hoped it would. A stark statement of intent that's aged incredibly well, this is where the London Belgian sowed some of his deepest seeds; from the beat variation and playful twists of space on tracks like "Voices" to the evergreen soul of "Forsaken" (still the only Peven Everett-fronted drum & bass track to this date) via the glitchy grime of "Calm Of Cast", it was clear, even back then, that Alix would go on to set whole new levels and benchmarks.
