Review: There's something delightfully eccentric about the smoky, off-kilter productions of German beatmaker Am Kinem. While much of this third full-length could be considered "deep house", it's anything but standard fare. He's clearly influenced by sample culture, hip-hop and leftfield electronica, and weaves these elements into tracks that ripple with bluesy intent and the mellow swing of deep jazz. The effect is largely spellbinding and strangely eccentric, sounding like a slightly more house flavoured take on the work of Al Dobson Jr and Mo Kolours. The package is excellent, too, with the hand-stamped LP being accompanied by a 10" featuring remixes from Harmonious Thelonius, Retrogott and Hulk Hodn.

Review: ** REPRESS ALERT ** David 'Move D' Moufang's debut album, originally released in 1995, gets a much needed reissue here on Damiano von Erckert's ava imprint. Across the Kunststoff LP's dozen or so tracks, we can hear the zeitgeist of mid nineties electronics taking in obvious influences - mainly from Detroit and Sheffield but undeniably laying down the roots of what would soon become the signature of the Heidelberg producer's signature sound. From the blissed-out ambient house of "Soap Bubbles" (which would be further explored again a decade and a half later on Song From The Beehive with Benjamin Brunn), or "Amazing Discoveries" exploring the same sonic territory as the likes of John Beltran at the time. The bittersweet melancholia of "Tribute To Mr Fingers" which does exactly what it says on the tin, but its really about the many moments tripped-out deep electronica like the sublime "77 Sunset Strip" where the album really shines.

Review: As an album title, In Case You Don't Know What To Play is rather good. We suspect that Damiano von Erckert had his tongue firmly pressed against the inside of his cheek when he came up with it, but it somehow seems fitting. You see, the album - the producer's third solo full-length excursion - contains a range of quirky, off-kilter, sample-heavy cuts that suit a variety of moods and situations. While his roots are in groovy and off-kilter deep house, the album's 10 tracks cheekily touch on a myriad of styles and sounds, from wonky Afro-house, broken beat and Balearic disco, to stomping, Terrence Parker style piano anthems and stripped-back jazz-house.

Review: Cologne's AVA Records present Tito Wun with his first solo record on the label. Featuring six heavy hits, it is a real label special. This will be Wun's fourth appearance on the label, not forgetting his full length with label staple Damiano Von Eckert entitled Mr. Pink, What Have You Been Smokin'? in 2013. Starting off with the low slung groove of "1023 Sunset Blvd", things make a tropical turn on "Iguacu Hash" which will take you deep into the exotic. On the flip, there's a fine edit of a good old soul classic on "NeEdit" and finally "5am" gets back into some dusty/slo-mo house action which has earned him releases on the likes of Money $ex and Tartelet.
