The View (feat LSB & Tyler Daley - Calibre remix) (6:33)
Bun Ya Too (feat Marcus Intalex, Chimpo, Rolla, Skittles & Strategy - Enei remix) (4:31)
Review: Hugeness: "The View" was one of the small selection of D&B tunes that really brought all DJs from all subgenres together last year. Now under the crafty scalpel of Calibre, it's been subtly polished for the new year. Flip for a mechanical funk shake up of "Bun Ya" by Enei. Loaded with some of the funniest and sharpest lyrics DRS, Skittles, Chimpo, Rolla and Strategy have ever penned, Enei has paid full respect to the elements while upping the aggy factor by at least 50.

Missing You (feat Tyler Daley & DRS) (7:12)
Tumult (6:16)
Review: The pairing of LSB and DRS is up there with wine and cheese. Having smashed 2015 with "The View", the pair return with another beautiful, emotion-soaked gem "Missing You". With its soft pianos and space for DRS to ruminate, it's another soulful smash that will stand the test of time. "Tumult" shows the complete flip of LSB's ever-perennial skills as he rolls out a darkside roller with a serious hurricane bassline that's powerful enough to take you back to the 2001. With his debut album around the corner, both tracks do well to remind you just how on-point LSB is.

Review: It's about time... Fresh off the heat of his Trevino album, Marcus returns to the D&B source with a full-fat foursome on his label's spotless Four:Fit series. Each cut a 24 carat diamond, shining in its own special way: "Mixed Bag" is a DRS-polished soulful addition to the ever-growing halftime annals, both "Step Forward" and "Stingray" are brittle two-step heads-down headbutts while "Jupiter" is an amen-rattled jungle shake-up. Timeless, deep and spacious; Marcus never fails.

Memory Log (7:18)
Review: As if Marcus Intalex and ST Files' M.I.S.T project wasn't quite enough soul power back in the 2000s, along came the eminent Dominick Martin, adding a big 'Cal' at the end. There's a wealth of material from the trio out there, a lot of which hasn't been digitised, and, as you'd expect from such a trio, the tracks haven't dated in the slightest. Both 'Just A Little Herb' and 'Memory Log' still soothe the soul with 170BPM charm. The former celebrates the sticky stuff with shimmering skanks and happy-slapping Amens while the latter takes you on a cruise around the d&b cosmos. Beautiful. What a reissue. Marcus Intalex RIP!

Sell Your Soul
The Guillotine
Review: Fresh drop on the Soul R imprint from label boss Marcus Intalex which fully demonstrates his recent endeavours under the Trevino alias haven't dampened his spirit for hard stepping drum and bass productions. It seems like the studio time concentrating on different rhythmic endeavours has benefitted Kaye, as "Sell Your Soul" is quite superb. Delicate strains of jazz-indebted instrumentation make for the perfect introduction, down trodden analogue touches signalling the onset of the drop. The moment those fragile vocals arrive and the rough hewn drums slip into line with the shuddering bass is inspired. To add some contrast, Kaye goes darkside on "Guillotine" with a bass line delivery that few people will be prepared for. Witness the sickness!

Zumbar (6:20)
Temperance (7:08)
Review: Gone but absolutely not forgotten, Marcus Intalex still feels present in the drum & bass scene, such is his massive legacy. Given how much original copies still fetch, it feels right for his very first solo 12" on Soul:r to get a fresh airing and put paid to the sharks. 'Zumbar' leads the way on this two-tracker, carrying some of those ascendant Rhodes notes and dusty brass stabs that made for a new angle on soulful D&B. Sharper than liquid, and a touch fatter than the Full Cycle crew, Intalex struck on something special here. The same goes on the flip with 'Temperance', which leans in on the synths for an amen powered peak time rusher that hasn't aged a bit.

Review: 21 was a mini-EP released by the late drum n' bass / electro legend Marcus Intalex, whose death in the late 2010s shocked the dance music community the world over. Commanding sky-high, sharky Discogs prices in recent years, the EP was a collaborative effort released on the producer's personal imprint Soul:r, and saw to some legendary collabs with Calibre, S.P.Y., D. Burke - and even a hot remix of Radiohead's 'Climbing Up The Walls'. Here comes the long-awaited reissue for DnB completists.

Come Down (4:59)
Message Music (feat Marcus Intalex) (5:20)
My Gift To You (4:08)
Held You In My Arms (5:37)
Review: An emotional one... The final ever Soul:r release comes via Mako. Already signed, sealed and pressed before Marcus Intalex sadly passed away, this will be the last ever release on the legend's seminal imprint. "Come Down" is Soul:r through and through, spacious and tense but with a strong sense of funk. "Message Music", which features Intalex himself, is a powerful halftime hybrid sprung with serious bounce while "My Gift To You" is a straight up ricochet shredder, all staccato metal ball bass and titanium percussion. "Held You In My Arms" is a perfect closer; deep almost techno-like synths and steppy, spacious drums, it's a poignant way to end an impeccable label legacy. Rest in peace Marcus.

Just A Moment (5:49)
Review: Following his debut on CIA in autumn 2015, US artist Adred continues to show the breadth of sonic span and abilities on the equally respected Soul:R on their so-far-spotless "Fourfit" series. Each cut showing balancing restraint and weight with a strong emphasis on jazzy textures and tones, we're sideswiped by Manos's vocals and the strong "Oblique" feels of "Around The Sun", we're soothed with equal measures of nostalgia and synthetic soul on the Goodlookingesque "170 Untitled" before getting deep, dark and minimal on "Ghetto Chemistry" where Lystone adds a unique US hip-hop feel. Finally we walk the plank into Adred's deepest, oceanic cut to date where the waves are high, voluptuous and all consuming. Stunning.

Multi Tasking (5:41)
Dream Of You (5:32)
Review: After a stupendously prolific 2013 and 2014 (wherein he delivered no less than four albums), Calibre appears to have taken his foot off the gas and slipped into a more comfortable release-rate. Following his "Strumpet" EP on Exit comes this ace four-tracker that represents all his drum & bass styles: "Boogeyman Bullshit" is Dominick Martin at his darkest and most mischievous, all wobbly bass and slippery. "Smother" (featuring long term compadre Marcus Intalex) slaps with big washy chords that chime with an almost Detroitian hypnotic affect, "Multi Tasking" is a swam of sonic bees that have set up a nest in Metalheadz HQ circa 1997 and show no sign of budging. Finally, with its twinkling arpeggios and major chords "Dream Of You" is Calibre at his dreamiest and most emotional... Then drop comes and, once again, his sub bass melts your cones. Immaculate.

Review: Four of the scene's most soulful heavyweights representing with sublime slices of rolling gold on Soulr's consistently impressive four-piece series: Zero T polishes up ivories so much you can see your thoughts in them, Tokyo Prose toys with a lush falsetto and dreamy soundscapes, FD find the blue note on his DAW and wraps it up tight in the smoky tones of Collette Warren while LSB reminds us of the beauty of sample-based groove simplicity with hypnotic Q&A charm. Authentic timeless D&B.

Review: Mancunian MC DRS has long been one of the most respected mic men in drum & bass, as the impressive production credits on his first two solo albums, 2010's Grown Man Biznizz and 2012's I Don't Usually Like MCs, But..., neatly proves. For this third album he's called in more favours, asking an all-star cast of studio dons - the likes of Calibre, Marcus Intalex, Skeptical, DJ Die, Addison Groove and Drumsound and Bassline Smith - to deliver killed rhythms to host his on-point lyrical flows. Mid Mic Crisis, then, sounds like a killer showcase of his talents, with the material flitting between skittering post-jungle, tech-step, soulful D&B, dubstep and, on the Toddla T produced title track (also featuring soul chanteuse Terri Walker), deliciously deep R&B.

Review: Soul:R roll out this 12" accompaniment to Mid Mic Crisis, aimed to satisfy the needs of any DRS fans who prefer his music on vinyl and it's also a handy sampler for anyone that's not yet checked the collaboration heavy set from the Manchester MC. Given the sheer standard of artists that contributed, we don't envy whoever it was at Soul:R that was tasked with plucking four cuts for this 12" but the label have done a fine job. Most selectors out there will be happy to see the dark side crew cut "Bun Ya Too" here, whilst the skittering futurism of Calibre collaboration "Something To Believe In" was made for the vinyl format!

Review: An incredible release from Skeptical right here: harnessing the vocal power of Collette Warren he's created two instantly distinctive cuts that tremble and rumble with the same soul and stark presence as early Roni material. The sharp, pneumatic "Desire" comes with more of a jazzy edge while "Always Been Mine" is much more spacious and dreamier. "Tundra" and "Turning Point" provide perfect balance as Skeptical flexes his darkest of muscles. As with all Soul:R releases, this really is very special.

Review: Bless up Marcus Intalex! Whilst he's engaged on delivering techno tools of the highest order as Trevino, the Manchester man is not letting his Soul:R empire slack one bit. Here the prospering Fourfit series returns and it sees a full release from the excellent LSB, who delivered a soulful highlight of the last edition. Much the same can be said of the four tracks here, with LSB really showcasing the breadth of his production palette. Lead cut "Snap Funk" rolls with an alluring darkness, whilst "Mist Of You" possesses some quite beautiful piano tones. Deep junglist vibes run through the pensive roller "Walking Blues" whilst "Omega" stands tall with brushed steppah vibes and industrial strength basslines.

Review: Fresh from the massive "Missing You" with LSB, DRS returns to his first artist release since his album Mid Mic Crisis. On a serious mission to spread positivity amid the scary climate, "I Will" is undiluted soul vocally, and musically as Patife dusts off the ivories with finesse. "Your Name" unplugs for an acoustic barbed tale from Skittles while "Sin" brings us back up to drum & bass with Utah Jazz laying down true drama in the groove. Finally Calibre creeps into the fray with a funk groove that's almost jaunty in its swing and dubbed guitar echoes. DRS respectfully joins in mid way, really letting Dominck's groove settle in deep. Untouchable.

Review: Just when you thought Soul:R's Fourfit collection couldn't get any better... Along comes Seba with four delicious pieces of emotion-rich but heavily weighted drum & bass soul. "Hide The Tears" is a real star-gazer with evocative, almost trance-like chord changes, "Dark Horse" has a techno-like attitude with its eerie topline that flickers and weaves amid the ever-mutating drums, "Fade To Red" switches the drum arrangement to create space for DRS and Trickykid who bounce bars over a paranoid, tripletty halftime groove. "Desire" closes the show with filtered stabs that are slightly reminiscent of Basement Jaxx's "Fly Life". Balanced by oceanic chords and velvet Owens-level vocals, Seba's range and depth is clear for all to witness. Again.

Review: He's back! It's been a while since Bungle last graced our turntables; his 2011 album Memories to be precise. But he's returned. And he's done so with a double-sided disc of pure D&Beauty. "Aura" is an emotion soaked stepper laced with all the grace of an early 90s ambient record but beefed up with Autonomic standards. Already being pimped as an 'impossible to top' tune of the year by some of the biggest names in the game, it's unarguably essential. "Astral Travel" is equally stunning. Rolling with a heavier rhythm but dosed with the same amount of star gazing whimsy, it's another faultless moment from the Brazilian DJ. Welcome back Bungle.

Review: While no D&B album is complete without at least one DRS-fronted banger, these are the Manchester MC's first solo outings since his 2012 earthquake-inducing album I Don't Usually Like MCs. With Jubei and Marcus Intalex on production duties, you already know this is going to bang... "The Puppeteer" is a vicious, late night shredder spiked with sharp-tongued lyrics and even sharper bass. "Emergency", meanwhile, is a skank-factored bouncer over which DRS shows he can sing just as well as he can spit. Looks like album number two is well en route... Bring it.

Review: Manc drum & bass collective MIST (made up of legends the late Marcus Intalex, ST Files and, at one point, Calibre) first released 'Clockwork' and 'Entropy' in 2009; the dual single instantly garnered acclaim for its high-octane rollage and clean drumwork, topping up the reputation of its label Soul:r. Now reissued for the first time, we're once more reminded of the two tracks' enduring impact on the dum & bass scene at large, with a vocal appearance from DRS on 'Clockwork' cementing drum & bass's lineage from and to ragga, as well as the tidbit that 'Entropy' is, a solo detour from Intalex alone.

Here, the latter's contribution to the series - volume seven - is given the reissue treatment, complete with fully remastered tracks. Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged & record has light surface marks/scratches, otherwise in excellent working condition***

Hugeness: "The View" was one of the small selection of D&B tunes that really brought all DJs from all subgenres together last year.
