Review: Bas Amro first released on Freerange back in 2011, and now he makes his 12" debut on Jimpsters label after a three year absence from releasing music. It's a strong and organic return and this record sees Freerange plunge further into the deep house murkiness. For lovers of Brawther and the My Love Is Underground label "You & Me" should push the right buttons, while over on the B-side vocals - similar to Scissor & Threads' Frank & Tony - can be enjoyed on "Across The Street" featuring Kennifer. Matt Karmil, who released on Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space label earlier this year, crafts a stripped back remix of the title-track, while making sure not to remove all of the melodic elements.

Review: Prolific Italian producer Black Loops continues his explorations of deep, groove-led house with the Experience EP. The release serves as a teaser for his forthcoming debut album, both of which arrive courtesy of the always on-point Freerange, and its label boss Jimpster kicks things off here with a rolling, Italo-tinged dub of Electrical, blending modular synth lines with dubbed-out vocals. Black Loops then flips the same track into a funk-fuelled workout, layering guitar licks and a weighty Moog bassline. On the reverse, Experience channels early 90s house with a sultry, Vogue-era feel, while Black Loops' Dancefloor Dub strips it back to a punchy, minimal groove built for late-night floors. Rounding things out is Inmasoul, a jazzy, deep house gem not found on the album.

Review: Second time around for Italian producer Black Loops' deep house tribute to his beloved Rome, which has become an in-demand and hard to find record since it first dropped on Freerange back in 2018. It's certainly one of the prolific producer's strongest releases, flexing a dusty, groovy at times pleasingly hypnotic take on late-night deep house. Check first title track '7 Hills', where jazzy Rhodes motifs, drifting chords and echoing jazz guitar notes ride a thickset groove, before admiring Mad Rey's chunkier, loopy and more locked-in peak-time interpretation. Over on side B, 'King Paul' is an even deeper and dreamier excursion in warm, bass-heavy dancefloor deepness, while 'Linda 38' offers an enticing blend of futurist electronics, jazzy keys, toasty chords and deep, analogue-rich bass.

Review: It's safe to say that Paris based musician, DJ and producer Jerome Caron is something of an enigma. With only two original productions and a mere handful of remixes released over the past five or so years, he's not exactly prolific. But what Jerome might lack in quantity, he more than makes up for in quality which is why both "Moustache" and "Untitled" have become established classics with many of the top DJ's. For many DJ's (including Dave 'Solid Groove' Taylor, Alix Alvarez and Jimpster) "Untitled" is up there in their all time top 10 house tracks. An absolute stalwart in their DJ sets and something of a criminally underrated stone cold classic that so many missed out on when it originally appeared on small French label Project Recordings. In it's original form "Untitled" is simply one of those magic productions that sounds totally out there in a league of it's own, with beautiful Rhodes chords, hooky synth stab and the funkiest, most rolling groove you've ever heard. Freaky Detroit style keys and lush strings all help keep the interest but never detract from the stripped back drums and bass underpinning the whole thing. Such a strong track is not easy to improve with a remix. Kerri Chandler was a first choice, and of course, he totally kills it! Concentrating on reworking the Rhodes chords into an alternative pattern, the king of NY house has delivered an awesome classic sounding Chandleresque remix that's stronger than Jeff Capes on Angel Dust!

Review: Formed of music Freerange physically lost forever in the Sony Music warehouse that burned to the ground during last year's riots, the Out Of The Ashes 5LP boxset did a remarkable job of representing the 150 release strong back catalogue and it made for little surprise that it swiftly sold out. Those Freerange fans not counted amongst the 250 lucky owners of that boxset can find solace in the label's decision to release those five plates individually, commencing with this triple hitter from Blackjoy, Tony Lionni and Ethyl & Flori. A 12" that perfectly encapsulates the diverse house sounds to found on Freerange, Blackjoy's infectiously bumping disco houser "Untitled" lines up on the A Side, while the flip has the previously digital only Deetron take on Lionni classic "Precious" battling for your affections with Ethyl & Flori at their swinging best with "Tanqueray".

Review: This EP offers a double dose of debuts, with both Bugsy (a hotly tipped Milanese DJ/producer) and Astroloop making their bows. They begin with "Svegsy", an impressively deep, woozy and fluid concoction that peppers a loose, percussion-rich deep house groove with hazy chords, tactile synth bass and a vocal sample once utilized by acid house sort Armando. Elsewhere, "New Vision" sees them wrap a chunky, analogue-rich bassline and rhythm track with spacey electronics and "Ghost Song" is a quietly soulful trip into rolling, ultra-deep house. Boo Williams steps up to remix the latter track, serving up a superb interpretation that sounds like a trippy tribute to Omar S's more electronic moments with added synthesizer solos.

Review: Jimpster's Freerange has been sitting at the top of the UK house music food chain since the late 1990's, and the label has featured everyone from Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts, to Detroit Swindle, and Manuel Tur. However, while they've always delivered the big guns, they've also been known for exposing new and interesting talents, such as their latest finding, Clavis. The newcomer kicks his catalogue into gear with "Banza", a late night jam with a hummable synth bleep running through its system, and "Mirzoza's Dream" follows with a more anthemic, more progressive approach thanks to its vast landscapes, circling piano keys, and fast house beats. There's a Kuniyuki remix of the latter as an offering on the B2, and that transforms the tune into a more driving, punchier bullet for the dancefloor.

Review: Crackazat is a master deep house shaman who lands on Freerange here, which is one of the finest labels for such sounds. First off is Cody Currie with his mix of 'Everybody Talks About It' which is a silky effort with soulful vocals and nice warm chords. The original is a little heavier and more sedate for late night seduction while 'I'm Easy' layers up funk bass noodles and loose drums into something lead by big horns. 'I'm Easy' closes down with a super steamy vocal house sound that is perfect for good time sessions.

Review: Freerange and Crackzat is the coming together of two of deep house's finest. Both deal in high quality sounds and this EP is another case in point: "Valentine" is all freewheeling chords and jazz sensibilities while "Back Of My Heart" pumps there party that bit more with its upright drums floating keys. "I Heard You" is pure old school US house, with choppy hits and garage swing deep in its bones. Patrice Scott serves up a remix that is typically smooth, deep and soul drenched. You'll be hard pushed to find nicer deep house sounds this year.

Review: When it comes to musically expansive, jazz and jazz-funked flecked deep and soulful house, Ben J Worrall AKA Crackazat is in a league of his own. That's been the case for a while, but it's proved beyond doubt by his latest outing on Freerange Records. Title track 'Beacon of Light' is simply sublime: a bouncy, soul-soaked slab of jazz-house/deep house fusion blessed with exquisite musicianship and some superb lead vocals. Equally as impressive is Ron Trent's similarly minded remix of 'Simple Things', which is every bit as delightful as you'd expect from the Chicago deep house legend. Elsewhere across the EP, the 'Maritime Dub' of 'Beacon of Light' transforms the track into a driving but rolling deep house bumper and 'Evergreen' is a pleasingly jazzy, hazy and sun-kissed future deep house classic.

Review: In a move that brings something new to the table in the era of quick and easy reissues, Freerange have decided to commission a slab of re-edits of classic 1990 house burner "In The Heat Of The Night", with a pleasingly respectful range of results. The Black Madonna gets busy with the acid lines and some enthusiastic chopping of the vocal, also knowing when to pull back on the slicing and dicing and let it roll out. Adjowa brings a dubbier sensibility to the track with a heavy leaning on the drums and some extra synth embellishments to accentuate the psychedelic qualities in the track, before Jimpster takes a no-nonsense approach to his own "Stretchdit".

Review: Dutch duo Dam Swindle are masters of updating traditional house sounds with a subtle contemporary twist. That is exactly what they have long been doing on their own superb Heist Recordings label and now they make the step over to Jimpster's equally vital Freerange with a fresh new EP. 'Unfinished Business' kicks off with sustained chords that bring a classic touch next to some steamy vocals and warm chords. 'Under The Spell' is more loose limbed and soul drenched, then a Crue remix brings some real heft to 'Unfinished Business.' Last but not least is 'Woman', a laid back vibe with swirling chords for loved up floors.

Review: A decade after it was first released (credited, back then, to Detroit Swindle), Dam Swindle's 'Figure of Speech' EP returns on vinyl in freshly remastered form. It remains one of the Amsterdam duo's most respected and much-loved EPs, and for good reason. Opener 'Figure of Speech' is an infectious, rolling and impressively groovy workout which combines African vocal samples, layered percussion and tidy house breaks with warming deep house chords and tech-tinged electronics. 'Victoria's Secret' is a woozier and more analogue-sounding deep house groover with deliciously positive synth melodies and fizzing riffs, while 'Live at the Cosmic Carnival' is a more percussion-rich slab of jazz-flecked, Batacuda-inspired Latin house heaviness that could well be the EP's most potent moment.

Review: Can DeGiorgio kick some shit or what?? 'Starwaves' is so the electro house sound of now coupled with an authentic 1980s electro vibe that not many besides Kirk could properly pull off. Fans of New Order in particular will love the sequenced basslines and rolling synth arpeggiations used throughout, slaved to a tough 4/4 groove. The breakdown features a wicked voicebox riff ala Cameo's Roger Troutman- brilliant!! The remixes start with Jimpster's string-driven Moroder inspired reworking for the Francisco/Marco Passarani fans out there while Spirit Catcher delivers for the more traditional deeper house heads with a crisp soulful revamp adding some choice vocal bits and a crisp, slinky groove.

Review: There is little doubt that Detroit Swindle have positively owned modern high-end house music since ripping onto the scene back in 2012, kicking Dirt Crew, Murmur, Tsuba and more into touch with their red-blooded productions that pack pounding drums, punchy bass and swooning chords into crafty grooves of the most commanding kind. They're at it once again for Freerange after last year's Creep, kicking off with the joyous explosion of the title track with its righteous diva vocals, tasty Rhodes lines and hooky beat. "Under The Spell" keeps the same garage shuffle but homes in more on the bittersweet chord tones as a source of their soul, but there's still room for a marginally more restrained roller in the shape of "Woman". Crue twists things up with a murky remix of "Unfinished Business" that ditches the melodics in favour of pure rhythmic thrust.

Review: Italian dream house pioneer may never make a record quite so good as his incredible 1991 anthem 'Alone' - quite simply one of the most loved-up house tracks ever made - but his occasional outings are always excellent, as this surprise appearance on Freerange proves. Title track 'I'm Steel Here' is utterly gorgeous and life-affirming in the best possible way, with his usual colourful synth sounds, dreamy chords and spine-tingling piano riffs rising above an arpeggio-style bassline seemingly inspired by Rinder & Lewis's legendary electro-disco cover of 'Willie and the Hand Jive'. Elsewhere across the EP, he wraps sun-soaked, disco-tinged synth riffs and picturesque electronics around a chunky house groove on 'Azimuth', before adding layers of musical emotion to a rolling house groove on the similarly summery and smile-inducing 'In The Sky'.

Review: Eddy Ramich and Zvonimir Dusper are a Croatian deep house duo with a penchant for the jazzy vibes. They've been releasing only a limited number of track since their debut all the way back in 1999 but with this latest release on Freerange it seems like they're back to stay. "A From B" is a delightfully playful house tune boasting a rampant collection of melodies and a perfectly off-kilter percussive flex. The remix comes from Yoruba Soul, who morphs the bleeps into wavier, more lingering tones thanks to an injection of delay and some other FX trickery. There's also a dub mix of the original to tie things off in fine style, a steady and chuggy house nodder with a tribal twist.
