Review: The summer is almost here which means this is exactly the sort of record we want to be reaching for. It's a lush and tropical work of idealised disco grooves, deepest house, Balearic, smooth jazz and Mediterranean cool that cries out to be played loud while you sip on cocktails and dream of being somewhere utterly blissful and classy. Dreamy textures define each cut with nice fresh rhythms, glistening chords and lush melodies all sprinkled with delightful percussive detail. Big up to A Vision Of Panorama for serving up a beautiful album that is sure to soundtrack the warmest months of the year for many.

Review: This Vincent Arthur album is a tribute to his daughter Vivian and was crafted by talented musicians from Africa, the Caribbean and Germany. Once obscure for 30 years, its standout track, 'Travel With The Music' became an anthem after making a high-profile appearance in a Dekmantel set where its euphoric afro-disco sound really made a lasting mark. Online sleuths uncovered its origin which has reignited interest in this hidden gem, which has been remastered by Frank at The Carvery. It revives three key tracks in 'Travel With The Music' which shines with afro, disco, and gospel-like euphoria. 'Afro Disco' brings playful energy while 'Jubilation' closes the night with deep, celebratory vibes.

Review: To many this is where Brazilian jazz truly began: 1966, the legendary saxophonist and composer Victor Assis Brasil laid down his debut album at just 21. Still as smoky and sentimental as it was 50 years ago (but sadder knowing his life was cut short by a rare disease just 15 years later), the playful sense of space, rhythm and technique displayed (and a slight freedom from the US and European sounds of the time due to him living in Brazil) are delivered with a rawness, clarity and sense of fun such as the R&B double bass backdrop of "Simplesmente" or the cat and mouse style counterplay between the horns on "Dueto". A touching and ultimately timeless piece of jazz history.

Review: Since its release in 1997, David Lynch's neo-noir-horror, Lost Highway, has become something of a cult classic. The accompanying soundtrack album, here reissued on weighty double vinyl, is similarly revered in some circles. Put together by Nine Inch Nails' frontman Trent Reznor, composer Angelo Badalamenti, and punk-turned-producer Barry Adamson, it's a mish-mash of darkly intense songs (Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins, Lou Reed and Rammstein all contribute), and the kind of creepy, other-worldly soundscapes that have always been a feature of Lynch's work. It's arguably the latter tracks, composed by Badalementi and Adamson, which remain creepily potent all these years on.

Review: RECCOMENDED
Despite her personal challenges, it's safe to say that Julien Baker sounds like a decent person. The sort of artist whose bandmates and peers have observed distributing gig riders among local homeless people. A musician who isn't afraid to not only put it all out for us to see, but swing the spotlight round to fully focus on and analyse herself, in public.

That's certainly the overriding feeling you get from Little Oblivions, her latest long form outing. Themes of guilt, elusive redemption, personal inconsistencies and failings are constant, as if we're being asked if we can tolerate these traits and behaviours before signing up to the fan club. Musically, it's just as memorable, Baker - largely known for her pared back approach to country-infused indie folk rock - has put everything into this, switching gears to focus on louder, larger, more complicated arrangements, and pulling it off with aplomb.

Review: A magnificent cover for a magnificent record here from Blair, aka the guitarist and songwriter Barney 'Blair' Perry, who was active in the 70s as a 20 something year old. His lavish disco and soul sounds have become hugely sought after - not least his 'Nightlife' classic. There are plenty of cosmic synth workouts on this album, sensuous vocal moments and magical melodic hooks throughout cuts like the percolating funk of 'Hey Sexy Mama', the gloriously upbeat feels of 'You Are My Whole Life Baby' and high speed pomp of 'They Blow My Mind.'

Review: Anton Newcombe's prolific Brian Jonestown Massacre notch up their 19th studio album with Fire Doesn't Grow On Trees. It's headed up by lead single 'The Real', which shows the psych-rock lifer hasn't lost any of his inspiration this far into his career. He worked in the studio with Ricky Maymi, Ryan Calrson Van Kriedt, Hakon Adalsteinsson, Hallberg Daoi Hallbergsson, Uri Rennert and Sara Neidorf in a whirlwind 70 days of tracking new music, and this album, whittled down to 10 incendiary tracks, is the result. It's everything you want from a BJM record - a perfect addition to their monumental oeuvre.

Review: Real Gone is doing a fine job of reissuing some of the most important jazz to have ever been recorded. It was all on the Black Jazz label and the man involved in much of it was Doug Carn. His Revelation album is one of the most iconic of them all, but Infant Eyes reaches similar heights with its spiritual sounds, dense arrangements and the impressively acrobatic and elastic vocal work of his wife Jean Carn. Her soulful sounds range from lung busting to carefully controlled, almost spoken, while plaintive pianos, smoky sax and tumbling drums all provide the fitting framework for this most comprehensive of jazz albums.

Review: Taylor Deupree and The Humble Bee have hooked up for their first collaborative album, Re: Case Studies, an immersive and pensive ambient beauty. It was originally conceived as a solo project and Deupree's abstract feedback loop-based compositions were shelved until discussions with the label prompted him to invite a collaborator. Craig Tattersall, aka The Humble Bee, responded with his own sonic interpretations and built on Deupree's foundations. The result is a cohesive yet distinct collaboration that honours the original while evolving into something new so what began as an unfinished idea is now a full-fledged and thoughtful, layered exploration of sound.

With over 20 full-length LPs to their succinct moniker thus far, If Your Mirror Breaks is the first album from the collective since 2018's 27 Passports, continuing their fearless sonic expansion with a ten-part series of surrealist daydreams, calls to action, ominous warnings and bursts of vitality tapped into the pulse of time.

Review: Last year, former Fall guitarist (and now celebrated radio broadcaster) Marc Riley stumbled on a rare bootleg recording of a concert the band had given to a sparsely populated audience at St Helens Technical College in the spring of 1981. To celebrate the gig's 40th anniversary, the recording has now been re-mastered and pressed to wax. It's a brilliant document of the Fall at their post-punk era best, with legendary front man Mark E Smith talking, singing, yelping and shouting has way through a series of raw, post-punk era workouts built around raucous, fuzz-toned guitars, low-slung basslines and loose-limbed drumming. For fans of Smith and his long-running band, it should be an essential purchase.

Originally released digitally last year, now finally on wax, Sam's Chromeo-meets-Calvin-Harris style rolls out beautiful, ebbing and flowing from blissful introspection ('The One', 'Try') to sky-bound, up-tempo dancefloor immersion ('Euphoria OK', 'Name To A Face') A carefully balanced weave of retro techniques and keytar flexing and a more futurist take on contemporary pop and R&B songwriting, all wrapped up and polished with a good sense of timeless disco, Sam has never sounded so accomplished, emotional or fresh.

They are led by singer Kelly Finnigan and members have a rich history as veteran touring performers and as individuals growing up in the Bay Area all of which is drawn upon now for their fourth release since 2012. Review: Dietro il Processo is a TV investigation series directed by Franco Biancacci that was broadcast by RAI in Italy from 1978 to 1980 as part of the Storie allo Specchio series. The legendary Ennio Morricone composed the main theme and scored three episodes: L'urlo, L'ultima notte di Pier Paolo Pasolini and Il caso Montesi. Although the tracks were not initially released in any format, the soundtrack became available on CD in 2009. For Record Store Day 2025, this first-ever LP edition has been assembled and comes on white vinyl so allows a chance to revisit to these most dramatic pieces.

Review: Originally released in 1977, if there's a rock or metal-oriented album that requires little to no introduction, it's the self-titled debut from Motorhead, welcoming the unsuspecting masses to the blistering balls to the wall ferocity that was Lemmy (bass/vocals), Phil Taylor (guitar) and Eddie Clarke (drums). Complete with a silver hot foil replication of Joe Petagno's original Motorhead logo on a vibrant red background, this 2xLP includes the original full-length boasting classics such as 'White Line Fever', 'Violator' and 'Keep Us On The Road', as well as a bonus disc featuring the Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers EP, along with newly mixed and alternative versions of bangers like 'Motorhead', 'The Watcher' and 'Keep Us On The Road'. Complete with sleeve notes by Ted Carroll, taking the reader through the story of how Chiswick Records managed to scrape together enough money to fund the recording of what would eventually enter both the label and band into the annals of rock history.

And it will sound superb as it has been remastered from the original master tapes so offers hi-fidelity from its deep bass to its crisp highs. All the tunes still do a job and are likely gunna get some heavy plays across the summer season and at open-air festivals.

Blurring the line between ambient experimentation and cinematic storytelling, the album features 15 tracks that were all conceived as soundtracks for fictional films. Highlights include the haunting 'Miss Sarajevo' with Luciano Pavarotti and contributions from Howie B and Holi and this remastered anniversary edition comes on recycled black vinyl. An adventurous 1995 release that stands up now as an atmospheric, genre-blurring work and a rare and inspired detour in U2's discography.

Review: Pellegrino & Zodyaco's skillfully intertwine Neapolitan disco, funk, jazz and world music while channelling a spirit of creative escape of this new album, which is inspired by Henri Laborit's 'Eloge de la fuite'. It explores conscious escapism as a return to authenticity and seeks a "common language" through sound by merging Mediterranean melodies with global rhythms, vintage instruments and ethnic percussion that all bridge past and present. Four years after his last outing, Morphe, Pellegrino is still in top form here with a soulful, genre-blurring portrait of modern Naples that reflects the fact that, in the city, musical traditions meet modern experimentation.

Up there with the best of them is Man From Wareika which has been reissued many times over the years and this time out comes on lovely translucent gold vinyl. His style of reggae is swaggering and sun-kissed, with lazy trombone leads bringing character to each tune and plenty of neat organ work and natty melodies layering in extra musical vibes. This is regarded as a classic of the genre for good reason.

Review: It should come as no surprise that the latest from Icelandic musical fantasists Sigur Ros was originally composed in either the 14th or 15th Century, and is written in the Edda tradition, a term used to describe to manuscripts that together make up the main sources of Norse mythology and Skaldic poetry. After all, this is a band that have been singing in their own imagined tongue since before most people cottoned on to them.

It's certainly the group's most gothic effort to date, an orchestral epic that also features the artists and composers Hilmar Orn Hilmarsson, Steindor Andersen and Maria Huld Markan Sigfusdottir, whose collective CV includes pioneering musical composition with computers and Rimur chanting. Their combined efforts feel steeped such timeless atmosphere your peripheral vision might as well be catching torchlights flickering off solid stone walls. Another work of extraordinary beauty, then.

Review: 'Trust' is the London-born, Catalonia-based producer SOHN's folktronic meditation on the fear and trust involved in fatherhood. Made after a relocation to Spain, and a personal welcoming of new life into the world, it captures a change in mindset through humbled sonics. "I couldn't do it alone anymore," says the artist, "as I was missing community and friendship and life in the creative process." Such an ego-loss is paramount to any artist's development of self; 'M.I.A.' is one such example of this, describing the artist looking back on his past self through the other side of a nervous breakdown.

This new EP is destined to be heard loud at beer swilling festival main stage all over the world. It has powerful riffs, plenty of fuck you energy and sizeable choruses that will connect on a large scale. Review: "Doo doo doo, doo doo-doo doo / Doo doo doo, doo doo-doo doo / Doo doo doo, doo doo-doo doo..." Nobody could accuse Third Eye Blind of poetic metaphors on the smash hit 'Semi-Charmed Life', lead single from this, their 1997 self-titled debut, but we can all reflect on the fact the song has everything necessary stick to your mind like glue, and defines an age that we can rightly feel longing towards.

The late-1990s were, upon reflection and in comparison with today, lacking in cynicism and very much styled with hearts-on-sleeves. Even if back then we thought we were defined by skepticism. Third Eye Blind's take on post-grunge alternative rock kind of epitomises this - not an outright rejection of commercialised music, yet anything but throwaway.

Review: This remarkable collection of mid-70s reggae captures legendary deejay U Roy at his most intimate and authentic, toasting exclusively for the King Attorney Hi-Fi sound system. Originally crafted as dubplates rather than commercial releases, these tracks are a time capsule from the golden age of Jamaican dancehalls. U Roy's charismatic flow, filled with shout-outs and jive, rides effortlessly over heavyweight rhythms recorded by The Revolutionaries at Channel One. With rich dubs from the Mighty Diamonds' Right Time and updated classics like 'Ali Baba' and 'Swell Headed', this is a joyous, immersive listen and an essential document of reggae's deep cultural roots.

Review: Who remembers when Hip Hop was a force for good? A happy, colourful sound brimming with positivity and realness, rather than the blingy boasts of studio gangsters? Whether you do or don't, this new Daisy Age compilation by Saint Etienne's Bob Stanley is a timely release that shines a light on that small but golden era back in the late 80s. Key protagonists like Jungle Brothers and A Tribe Called Quest, as well as De La Soul, whose "3 Feet High and Rising" album was at the centre of this micro-movement, all feature alongside Pop and R&B with a similarly positive outlook. Essential.

Across its eight standout tracks, the album showcases a diverse range of artists and styles, from dreamy acoustic ballads to experimental electronic compositions. Review: With standout tracks from proper legends like Barrington Levy, Delroy Wilson, Dillinger, The Mighty Diamonds, Yellowman and more, Reggae Anthology: The Channel One Story is an essential compilation chronicling one of Jamaica's most influential studios during its most famous golden era. Plenty of historic moments are included such as the country's first 12-inch maxi-single release (The Jays & Ranking Trevor's 'Truly Deejay Mix') and 'Queen Majesty,' a soul-drenched reggae rework of a Curtis Mayfield classic. Also included are extended cuts and rich production which means this anthology celebrates Channel One's lasting impact on reggae history with a little extra insight than you might have already heard.

Review: With long-serving Balearic DJs Mark Barrott (he of International Feel fame) and Pete Gooding at the controls, you'd expect the latest volume in White Isle venue Hostal La Torre's ongoing compilation series to be on-point. It is of course, with the pair variously offering up a lesser-known (and stunning) David Morley ambient remix of Golden Girls' rave classic 'Kinetic', the tribal-meets-jazz-funk headiness of No Zu, the humid, boogie-era stripped-back soul of Raw Silk (the brilliant 'Storm'), soft focus beach-side exotica (Margaret Wakely's 'Hard To Leave The Island'), pitched-down Italian dream house revivalism (Timmy Stewart remixing the Vendetta Suite), spiritually minded piano jazz (Lola Perrin), picturesque synth-scapes (Suzanne Ciani) and Barrott's own Balearic bliss ('Travelling Music').

Review: Wild Planet was originally a duo consisting of Simon J Hartley and Richard Brook who put out a fine debut album on Warp. After that. Hartley became the sole member for a further album on Octave One's Detroit-based 430 West label. This album came first in 1999 and has been fully remastered and sounds better than ever, with three bonus tracks from the original CD version making their vinyl debut. Transmitter captures a distinct blend of raw, warm and futuristic Detroit electro and techno that ranges from deep machine funk to atmospheric synth work. It's a shining example of Motor City innovation at its peak. Do not sleep.
