Review: Back in 2004, when his muscular brand of peak-time house music was all the rage, Vito Lucente AKA Junior Jack secured a sizable club hit with 'Stupidisco', a squelchy and driving fusion of weighty tribal house beats, swirling electronics and giddy disco vocal samples. Here the track returns in remixed form for 2022. Review: Mishell Ivon and Vincent Kwok are back and combining their skills once more with this brilliant bouncy new funk outing on The Sleepers. The first tune on this pocket-rocket of a 7" is 'High', a funky weapon that is high on life and built around well-syncopated drums and a percussive bassline. The icing on the cake is Mishell's vocals which weave in out of the synth stabs and lush keys, all of which are well arranged. Flip it over and you'll get lost in the funk once more with 'In The Dust' with its masterfully rhythmic bassline and more of those buttery Mishell vocals.

Review: The Outer Edge rounds off their series reworking tracks from the archive of lesser-known German 80s outfit Ghia. This time round, they're offering re-imaginations of an instrumental synth-funk track first featured on last year's Don't Look LP, 'Message From The Other Side'. This time round, the band has recruited vocalist Adrian Prestel and re-imagined it as colourful and authentic synth-number simply titled 'The Other Side'. As well as a solid instrumental take, we're also treated to a superb Marian Tone take which blends bits of the 1985 demo with elements of the 2023 re-recording. Elsewhere, there are also three takes on previous single 'Out of Luck': squelchy and crunchy neo-boogie vocal and instrumental versions courtesy of DJ Friction (the disco one, not the d&b producer of the same name) and a more low-slung, dub disco style instrumental revision by Soundrays.

Review: Earlier this year, DJ Scientist stumbled upon another early Ghia composition tucked away in the depths of a master tape. It was a treasure too precious to remain unheard. Sadly, the original track couldn't see the light of day due to sound quality and issues with the original vocals. To make matters more disappointing, no instrumental version survived. Thus, the only way to share this catchy boogie funk track with the world was to recreate it from scratch. And so, the Ghia saga unfolds once more, but in this chapter, there's a new and unique twist. 'Out Of Luck' draws its roots from the aforementioned lost track, originally composed by the group in 1985. This time, however, the song has been expertly reworked by Marian Tone, with new vocals by Adriano Prestel. The outcome? Quite possibly one of the smoothest and most refreshing modern funk tunes you'll hear this year.

Review: German nu-disco don Purple Disco Machine has been phenomenally successful in recent years, and there's every chance that this single - a collaboration with little-known British indie band Sophie & The Giants - will raise his profile even more. "Hypnotized" certainly sounds like it has serious crossover potential. In its original "Extended Mix Form", the track is an attractive chunk of radio-friendly mid-tempo nu-disco/80s AM radio synth-pop fusion that comes complete with a catchy, sing-along chorus. Roosevelt smartly gives the track a little more organic disco warmth whilst retaining the prettiness of Purple Disco Machine's original synths, while Loods aims for hands-in-the-air peak-time bliss on a cheery retro-futurist big room house take.

Review: Purple Disco Machine's 'Dopamine' came out last year in a blissful burst of singalong vocal house goodness, with Eyelar up front on the mix creating a fully fledged anthem which was a deserved hit for the German producer. Review: The latest 12-inch from Tino Piontek under his now familiar Purple Disco Machine outing features two fresh remixes of tracks from his popular 2021 album Exotica. First up, Alex Virgo reworks 'Playboox', delivering a mid-to-late-'80s Hi-NRG and Euro-dance inspired take full of starry synth breakdowns, hard-wired sequenced bass, spiralling melodies and bustling beats. It's good, but arguably even better is yacht disco-loving outfit Poolside's languid Balearic disco revision of Ed Mac collaboration 'Wanna Feel Like a Lover'. It's warm, dreamy and luscious, with strings and soulful vocal snippets combining wonderfully with the band's bass and guitars - basically the sort of jam you want to hear as the sun goes down on a steaming hot day.

Here, Sophie & The Giants hook-up 'In The Dark' - a radio-friendly nu-disco sing-along in its original form - is given the re-rub treatment. Crazy P's Jim Baron delivers two A-side revisions under his Ron Basejam alias: a squelchy, bleeping, electro-not-electro full vocal take that will get plenty of plays for the rest of the year, and a deeper, hazier 'Dub Remix' for the heads. Review: For those who like kaleidoscopic synth sounds, nu-disco and 80s electrofunk nostalgia, the announcement of a collaborative single from modern disco maestro Purple Disco Machine and Canadian boogie revivalists Chromeo will be big news. Happily, 'Heartbreaker' is tons of fun, providing a perfect fusion of Purple Disco Machine's throbbing, cheery and uplifting take on nu-disco and the authentic synths, talkbox flourishes and eyes-closed vocals that have always marked out Chromeo's work. The A-side extended mix is particularly potent, but we're also massive fans of the alternate instrumental take, in which the uniqueness of the fusiuon - Moroder-ish bass, elongated mid-80s soft rock synth solos and glossy FM synth stabs - comes to the fore. To quote Alan Partridge, it's a copper-bottomed hit!

Review: Contemporary classical seems to be having a bit of a moment in the sun right now a it breaks out of its traditional confines and makes a mark on the wider world. Bartellow, who is one third of the Tambien project and also goes by the name Beni Brachtel in the classical scene, is back on ESP Institute with a second full length. Noosphere brings together parts of some of his theatrical scores for WUT, Odipus and Antigone and Der Zauberberg amongst others. It takes in cues from Baroque and Impressionism with plenty of sweeping drama and moments of intense emotionality across four sides of sound.

Review: The fourth and final studio album from the now disbanded French electronic duo, Daft Punk, Random Access Memory gets a re-release on Sony complete with an exclusive poster and 16-page booklet. This release pays tribute to late 1970s and early 1980s American music, particularly the sounds hailing from Los Angeles at the time. For this seismic album, the band developed and enriched the minimalist production style typical of their previous releases though collaborating with session musicians performing live instrumentation, limiting the use of electronic instruments to simple drum machines, a custom-built modular synthesiser, and their signature vintage vocoders. Spanning an impressive selection of genres from disco, to prog rock and pop, the album also boasts a serious list of chart-topping collaborators - from Nile Rodgers, to Pharrell Williams, to Giorgio Moroder.
