One of many Relapse Records releases to enter an informal Relapse hall of fame, this terse, creepy 50-minute-long opus is full of subversive stalker energy, building a sludgy, Babylonian audio-edifice out of the horror movie thematics (think Scream). All tracks, naturally, hear their low-mixed guitars buzz with the grating twinge of a chainsaw against flesh.

Review: Soundtrack heavyweight Clint Mansell was the perfect choice to score 2009 film Moon, in which Sam Rockwell goes through a brilliantly off-beat adventure while working a solo stint on a base on the dark side of our nearest celestial object. It's an artful, subtly eerie film with a score to match, and Mansell perfectly conveys the isolation of Rockwell's character while evoking the sense of wonder a sci-fi film demands. For the first time since its original release, the Moon OST is available once more on vinyl, appropriately enough pressed up in lunar white.

Review: African American funk and soul group The Lowdown Band was made up of musicians from both the East and West coasts of the US. They rose to prominence in the 1980s across California and took inspiration from the proceeding decade's funk and soul. Their basslines were always groovy and their drums tight with plenty of catchy melodies and soaring horns. 'Music Is The Answer' was their biggest hit and it came in 1982 with the soulful vocals of lead singer Raul Gallegos. It claimed tot he top 20 of the US charts at the time and is a gorgeous cut to this day. Here it is reissued with another of their big ones, 'Somebody.'

Review: There's just no stopping Coco Bryce, who casually drops his third LP of the year on MYOR like it's no big deal. As low-slung opener 'High Commander' demonstrates, this isn't a one-trick jungle dump, but an album proper with nooks and crannies to get lost in. There are of course plenty of dazzling breakbeat excursions to savour - this is Coco Bryce after all - but even then his style has a refreshing, dynamic quality which makes for listening music as much as shockout juice. The low tempo beatdowns are just as incredible, full of vibe and bursting with inspiration, proving, as we already said, there is NO stopping our bredda in Breda.

Review: After his hugely well received lovers' rock compilations for this label, Sam Don digs deep into the rich world of UK sweet soul on this - typically - excellent new compilation from the wondrous ashes of the North. He comes up with plenty of mega hard to find and expensive musical treasures that have all been painstakingly researched and tracked down. It was a short lived but fertile scene in the underground back in the 90s and if you didn't; know that already you will after one listen through of this - the sounds are highly danceable with silky, low-lit melodies and steamy and seductive vocals for loved up late night dancing.

Review: A lesser-cited early EP by the Beastie Boys, 'Root Down' was one of the group's first forays into riding and fusing elements of jazz-punk. All the tracks on the EP are variations on the track of the same name, which hailed from the earlier 1994 album, Ill Communication. While the EP begins on a predictably Beastie hip-hop note, things take a sharp turn for the varied with 'Heart Attack Man', on which their hardcore punk origins are heard loud and clear, before all manner of live trip-hoppy funk goodness ensues with 'Sabrosa', not to mention the even weirder mashup 'Flute Loop'. Wild, sorely undersung stuff from the Boys!
