Review: Next up on Bristol's Bokeh Versions is Japan's Mars89 with his second release. He's a crucial member of the Tokyo's Chopstick Killahz: a self-described 'post tribal DJ unit' lurking on the fringes of the city's grime scene, in addition to being a Noods Radio resident. He presents some more of his contorted UK bass and gqom derivatives from the far east on the End Of The Death EP. Influences of Jersey club, dancehall and grime are evident throughout, from the reverberated rapid-fire toms of "Run To Mall" or the industrial edged beats of "Random Coherence" or "Throbbing Pain" to even more desolate soundscapes as heard on the chilling "Visitor From The Ocean".

Review: Bokeh Versions' long-running partnership with Jamaica's Duppy Gun label continues via a tasty new single from rising star RDL - a honey-voiced vocalist who has appeared on a number of killer dancehall cuts in recent years - and producer DJ Smurphy. The latter's riddim for 'Streets' - available in tweaked instrumental form later in the EP - is simply superb, with dreamy electronic chords and blissful, synth-pop influences melodies rising above a powerful, sub-heavy bassline and light-touch dancehall beats. RDL's half-spoken, half-sung patois vocals are simply superb, too, on both the original mix and the tougher, more riddim-focused flipside 'Club Mix'. There aren't many of these around, so act fast if you want to secure one of the 250 copies available worldwide.

Review: The unstoppable Bokeh Versions welcome the new year with some forward looking digi-dub gold. This one comes from Nottingham based sound sculptor TNT, who has never put out a vinyl record until now. An artist who has been pursuing a solo career since his Earthquake collective went south in 2002, he has stayed relatively low key while putting out various dub plates. The best of them from 2006 to 2018 are now collected here with production by Aba Shanti making each one pop. This album tells the story of a fine chapter in UK dub history, so don't miss out.

Review: Leslie Winer is an American fashion model, musician and poet who first came onto our radar when she collaborated with Diamond Version (aka Alva Noto & Byetone) on their debut album for Mute back in 2014. Her debut album '& that dead horse' is considered by many as a precursor to the '90s trip-hop sound and has recently been re-issued on The Tapeworm. Her lyrics draw on decades of experience working in the fashion industry, jaded by its excesses and most likely pushed to express herself in this manner by close friends William Burroughs and Jean-Michel Basquiat. According to Bristol based Bokeh Versions, the concept behind 'YMFEES' was actually built up over email. Jay Glass Dubs would send rough beat sketches that Winer would return with text and vocal responses overdubbed. All orchestration and production was finalised in Jay's Athens studio in the first half of 2017, after extensive sessions at a small cottage on the Ionian Sea. For Jay Glass Dubs, Winer's voice and words 'worked as a compass to evolve a sound far beyond his initial ferric offerings.'
