Review: Few can match BBE when it comes to the funk and disco compilation stakes - the label's been issuing killer compendiums curated by some of the finest and most eminently knowledgeable DJs and diggers since the mid 90s. Soul In The Hole sees them hand the controls to Sadar Bahar, Chicago based DJ described by BBE as the city's "best kept secret". Bahar began DJing in the early 80s, a historically important time for music in Chicago and states he was driven by an "unquenchable desire to create one of the best collections ever". This 12 track compilation demonstrates Bahar has achieved that with aplomb, traversing through a colourful range of funk, soul, disco and boogie, with Frederic Mercier's "Spirit" a real gem.

Review: It makes perfect sense for the London trio of Carlo Anderson, Matthew Benyayer and Thomas Edwards to issue their debut Dark Sky album on Monkeytown as they've gradually become more and more affiliated with the network of labels overseen by Modeselektor. So how exactly does Imagin sound? It covers alot of the bases we've come to expect from both Dark Sky and Monkeytown; there's the skywards pointing melodic flex of the opening title track, a smattering of vocal numbers (such as lead single "Silent Fall"), some bass heavy floor burners ("Voyages" and the neck snapping "Odyssey" stand out) and plenty more to boot.

Review: Richard Norris dons his Time & Space Machine outfit (a bejewelled robe resplendent in several shades of purple with lightning go faster stripes and a deerstalker hat in case you were wondering) for further adventures in the field of cosmodelic freakout edits of krautrock rarities. As with the previous two volumes it's gonna take the staunchest of krautrock obsessives to attempt an identification of the source material. The rest of us can enjoy the rich percussive textures, heavy organ sounds and mammoth riffage that fill the nine tracks here. "Somebody Help Me" impresses in particular thanks to a copious amount of excessive phasing and filtration! Extra words of praise are awarded to Luke Insect for the suitably lush cover art that adorns this lovely release.

Review: Code sees Patrick Graser issue his debut album as Answer Code Request with the twelve track set comfortably ranking among the best long players issued on Ostgut Ton in recent times. Though Graser has been releasing records under his given name since 2008, it's his work as Answer Code Request that has seen the German truly find his sound. First appearing under the moniker in 2011 with the self-released Subway Into EP, Graser has gone on to release with MDR and Ostgut Ton with the Breath EP issued on the latter earlier this year a fine taste for what to expect from Code. ACR's weighty breakbeat driven techno is very much in evidence here, at times it feels like how Hessle lad Joe might sound if he grew up in the outskirts of Berlin ("Field Depth" in particular). At other times Graser's suggestion that Code is influenced by the 90s sounds of UK bastions such as Warp feel very much true and the more you listen the more you feel he's successfully managed to deliver a cohesive and continually compelling techno album.

Review: As part of the Swing Ting collective, Murlo has established himself in the thrust of cutting-edge bass sounds emanating from the UK. As well as outings for Glacial Sound and Unknown To The Unknown, he has forged a solid connection with Dre Skull's Mixpak label, who he returns to for Odyssey. From the emotive, arpeggio-rich delights of "Cascade" to the scattered string hype of "Moodswung" the crisp, sharply defined lines of Murlo's productions positively surge out of the speakers with a confidence that belies the short time the London-based artist has been releasing music for. Of all the cuts the harder tones of "Furnace" are almost guaranteed to score plenty of plays in genre-spanning sets.
