Review: Since 2019, Fleetwood Mac has used Record Store Day to deliver "alternate" versions of the band's most famous albums. These are comprised of demos, early recordings and alternative mixes from the period that have laid dormant in the archives for decades.

The series encompasses out of print and much in demand UK dub reggae albums from the late 1970s and early 1980s, all highlighting crucial early production work from the mixing desk of Adrian Sherwood. The band's post-reformation, 2023 album Hostile Environment, is thrown in for good measure. Review: The Black Rider is the twelfth studio album by Tom Waits, released in 1993 on Island Records. The album features studio versions of songs Waits wrote for the play The Black Rider, directed by Robert Wilson and co-written by William S. Burroughs. The play is based on the German folktale Der Freischutz, which tells the story of a man who makes a deal with the devil to win a shooting contest and the love of his bride. The play premiered in 1990 in Hamburg, Germany, and was later performed in various countries. Waits' experimental, avant-garde compositions and croons shine as strongly as ever on the album, coming blended with elements of cabaret, jazz, blues, rock, and noise. Waits sings in various voices and accents, accompanied by instruments such as trumpet, accordion, guitar, banjo, and percussion. Of course, it wouldn't be the same without interspersed narrations by Burroughs, and topped off by cameos from Gregg Cohen and Walter Donaldson. Now remastered for the first time ever from the original 1/2 inch master tape and personally overseen by Waits and his wife Kathleen Brennan, this one comes re-released by UMR on vinyl.

Review: Times change, things get worse, outlooks seem bleaker, and the storm grows more severe. It's times like these you really need a ballast, something to hold on to and call upon for reassurance. Since inception, Lambchop have tried to be that force for good in a world hellbent on marching to madness. And The Bible is the group's finest hour for several years, although on the face of things it's not necessarily very different from immediate predecessors.
Lead singer Kurt Wagner has frequently quipped that his band don't really fit the country genre label, but again we're struggling to think of where else to place this. Country and Western it certainly isn't, but the totems are definitely down that route. That strong, iconic, patient and thought-provoking yet scarred voice, songs dealing with both the festival and comedown of life itself. This is slow, piercingly poignant stuff, from the heartbroken piano quiet of 'So There', to gospel-infused jazz on 'Police Dog Blues'.

Review: Count Ossie is one of the true forefathers of Jamaican music as we know it, setting a template for the spiritual, drum-focused sound of Nyabinghi as a musical extension of Rastafarian religious practice.
