Review: The reissue of Cagnet's Love Generation soundtrack is a nostalgic treasure for fans of 90s Japanese drama music. Originally composed for the hit series Love Generation (1997), starring Takuya Kimura and Takako Matsu, this soundtrack beautifully captures the show's emotional depth. Cagnet. led by Daisuke Hinata, crafted a unique blend of smooth jazz, pop, and wistful melodies that perfectly mirror the highs and lows of the drama's love story. Ahead of the time for then, now fits well with the Japanese reissue focus on smooth City Pop sounds. What sets this soundtrack apart is its balance between atmospheric background music and catchy, memorable tunes, which play an integral role in heightening the emotional resonance of key scenes. These tracks show Cagnet's ability to weave together soulful rhythms with melodic sophistication, making this reissue a perfect trip down memory lane. Now available on clear red double vinyl, Love Generation is an ideal piece to fit in with the classic Japanese drama soundtracks.

Finally, we're showered in all the best rare and previously unreleased tracks, demos and obscurities the singer has to offer from over the years - the best music fans know these are as instrumental to an artist's career as their hits. Selected with "personal relevance and meaning" to Carey, there are no repetitive Christmas hits or too-soft-to-touch love songs here; rather, these cuts are semi-autobiographical, having been paired with her memoir, The Meaning Of Mariah Carey.

Review: A surprise addition to the series of Belinda Carlisle reissues mainly slated for 2023 comes this 2024 top-up edition of Real, complementing the already-out Demon Records versions of Heaven On Earth and Runaway Horses. Real is Carlisle's fifth studio album, for which a decided wardrobe reshuffle captures the mood; famously, the singer swapped her prior glamorous look for a jeans and tee shirt drip, coinciding with the ironic theme of authenticity which recurs throughout the album. Famed for its badboy biker-loving ballad 'Big Scary Animal', on which Carlisle confronts the id through coming face-to-face with 'feelings hid', and 'Lay Down Your Arms', on which a wild-western theme is subverted to provoke the sense of a lawless relationship triangle up for grabs.

Review: Released in 1993 and now reissued via its original label Demon, Belinda Carlisle's fifth solo album was notable for its standout singles 'Big Scary Animal' and 'Lay Down Your Arms', both of which showed off her raunchy, large, all-American style. At this stage in her career, we witnessed Carlisle deliberate on her femininity; re-form her agency under patriarchy; and subvert classic Westernized images of opulence, romance and wealth; all while keeping things instrumental energized and hey-ho. Now, once more, you can reexperience Carlisle's return to authentic source, with Real.

Review: American singer and former Disney starlet Sabrina Carpenter delivers her sixth album, Short n' Sweet, following up 2022's Emails I Can't Send. It's only natural that Carpenter swerve terse after said prior record dealt in lengthier themes of abjection and unsent, gushing letters; this time around, Sabrina appears purged of her former gripes with love-life, its lead single 'Espresso' manifesting as the neo-funk ode to give-a-fucks sent flying ("I can't relate to desperation" she croons). A stark and carefree contrast to the longing for belonging potrayed on her last record.

Review: Carpenters' Christmas Once More, is a delightful collection of 16 timeless holiday classics, personally curated by Richard Carpenter. This newly remixed and remastered album highlights Karen Carpenter's extraordinary vocals. The collection features fan favorites like 'Merry Christmas, Darling', now accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and festive staples such as 'Sleigh Ride' and 'Santa Claus Is Coming to Town'. The album title cleverly nods to the Carpenters' 1973 hit, 'Yesterday Once More', adding a nostalgic touch. With Karen's pure and warm delivery, the emotional depth of 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' and 'Christ Is Born' truly shine. There's a blend of cozy nostalgia and reverent elegance, especially in tracks like 'Ave Maria' and 'The Christmas Waltz'. Richard's meticulous production and arrangements make this release feel fresh yet familiar, from orchestral moments to intimate vocal passages. A fitting tribute to Karen Carpenter's enduring legacy and the duo's lasting contribution to Christmas music.

Review: Chappell Roan's full-length debut, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, is a bold and uproarious introduction, characterised by sturdy songcraft and a steely indifference to good taste. Roan, who hails from Willard, Missouri, initially found success on YouTube before securing a major label deal. Her music truly found its place and purpose at West Hollywood's Abbey, inspiring the disco-pop anthem 'Pink Pony Club.' Produced with Dan Nigro, known for his work with Olivia Rodrigo, the album is rich with theatrical, wickedly funny tracks. Highlights include 'Casual, a mix of sorrow and scorn aimed at an indifferent partner and 'Red Wine Supernova,' showcasing Roan's comedic flair. Her powerful and versatile voice shines throughout, whether delivering emotional punch or playful, half-spoken lines. Roan embraces queer aesthetics and camp, crafting songs that blend catchy pop hooks with vivid, unapologetic storytelling. The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is a celebration of youthful defiance and queer identity, marking a significant debut for Roan under Island Records.

Review: Roan's debut LP, released in 2023, has catapulted her to stardom, poised to top the UK charts and marking her set at Lollapalooza as one of the festival's most-attended. Her meteoric rise, fueled by her support role on Olivia Rodrigo's Guts tour and the success of the single 'Good Luck, Babe!', has been impressive. The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess is a showcase of Roan's fearless songwriting, blending intense revelations with irresistibly catchy choruses. To commemorate the album's one-year anniversary, Island Records has announced a limited-edition 2xLP in 'my kink is coral' vinyl. This release celebrates the album's cultural impact, from its iconic 'Pink Pony Club' costumes to the viral 'HOT TO GO!' dance, solidifying Roan's is here to stay.

Review: A compelling epilogue to the already legendary Brat, an exploration of sub-mainstream pop stardom, delving into anxieties around commercial success via tracks like 'Rewind' and 'Sympathy Is a Knife'. Musically, it's a diverse and experimental space, as Bon Iver, Jon Hopkins, The Japanese House and more take on remix duties, and although the songs are pushed into unexpected sonic territories the influence of a key producer remains clear. Glitchy electronica, pure pop moments and surprising combinations create a dynamic listening experience - the collaborations on tracks like '360' and 'Girl, So Confusing' are particularly effective.

Review: The fourth album from the English pop experimentalist was made over just six week in a "do-it-yourself" collaborative process with her fans. It is inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown and was executively produced by A. G. Cook and BJ Burton. Fans and critics alike fell immediately in love with the record which was also shortlisted for the 2020 Mercury Prize. Edgy experimental production and hooky pop songwriting have rarely collided as successfully as they do here, with plenty of hyper-energetic sounds and shimmering synths, bubblegum bass and mechanical motifs all making this as much an impromptu mixtape as a studio album. Truly, this is a work of its time.

This edition highlights Charli's unique ability to merge avant-pop artistry with mainstream sensibilities and since its release on June 7, 2024, Brat has garnered widespread acclaim, earning a spot on the Mercury Prize 2024 shortlist and achieving Gold status in the UK with over 100,000 copies sold. The deluxe version coincides with Charli's first UK #1 single, 'Guess,' which is featured in this expanded release. Known for her relentless innovation in pop music. Review: 'Brat' is Charlotte Emma Aitchison's sixth studio album as Charli XCX, the follow-up from her "sell-out era", 2022's 'Crash' which topped multiple charts and gave the British pop singer a newfound notoriety that she had long been deserving. A longtime collaborator with PC Music founder and Beyonce-credited producer A.G. Cook, whose production can be found in the album's latest double single 'Club Classics/B2b', Charli is returning to her roots of dance music and electronic pop - a far cry from the hazy alt-pop she launched her career with. Following the launch of 'Von dutch', the lead single produced by PC Music producer EASYFUN (aka Finn Keanne), Charli has gone on record saying that this is her best body of work - a title that once belonged to the cult classic mixtape 'Pop 2' - and it's easy to see why, the blaring synths and honed in club music focus is unlike anything anybody in the mainstream pop sphere is doing right now. Pressed on a translucent black vinyl, and coupled with one of the best album covers maybe of all time, it's never been a better time to be one of Charli's angels.

Review: Chase Atlantic's fourth album offers a more mature sound than previous LPs while exploring themes of loneliness, depression and fear. The title reflects the paradox of being in an ideal place yet feeling miserable and the music showcases the band's evolution into a fusion of pop, rock and r&b in their signature genre-defying style. The lead single quickly gained popularity by amassing millions of streams and views and follow-up 'Doubt It' continues the trend with addictive melodies and fresh sounds. Although Chase Atlantic pushes boundaries here, their original fans will still remain happy with the signature energy of this album.

Review: This soundtrack was originally released in 2006 and is a great reflection of the Disney Channel movie's rich and candied musical journey. Featuring songs that blend pop, r&b and dance beats, the album showcases the talents of the Cheetah Girls themselves aka Adrienne Bailon, Sabrina Bryan and Kiely Williams as they take on new challenges in Barcelona. Highlights include the upbeat 'Strut' the empowering 'Cheetah-licious Christmas' and the catchy 'The Party's Just Begun'" The soundtrack perfectly mirrors the film's themes of friendship, self-expression and following dreams as well as being full of infectious tunes.

Review: Kelly Clarkson's latest and eighth studio album Meaning Of Life is a powerful statement for the longtime Nietzschean pop singer, being one of her first to be explicitly influenced by American soul and r&b. Aiming to bring back the vivacity of certain vocal greats like Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin - memories of whom are now crystallized into the American subconscious as intractable parts of the nation's history - Clarkson aims to summon a rejuvenated spirit for an otherwise divided, turbulent, bitter country.

Review: This is Coldplay’s tenth studio album and delivers in being an album that can help lift you when you’re feeling down in the dumps. Chris Martin and band have tapped into something that helps listeners transcend and feel connected on a higher level. There’s an array of top-tier collaborators involved, including the mighty Jon Hopkins and Louis Cole, so it goes on a spectacular journey sonically. ‘We Pray’ (featuring Little Simz and Burna Boy among others) taps into Afrobeats and is one of the most cutting-edge major pop singles. And 'AETERNA’ lifts its backbeat from Brainfeeder signee Louis Cole’s ‘Weird Part Of The Night’, which is a great touch and indicative of an expertly A&R’d album that lifts up so many great contemporary musicians.

Review: They're the biggest but most hated band on the planet, but that will never stop Coldplay. The band has long been at the top of the pop-rock world and once again Music of the Spheres is likely to keep them there. It is an album rather less wrought with emotional tension than they are known for but still has one eye firmly on the cosmos, like much of their material. In fact, there is a loose concept here that revolves around a distant solar system. The lead single, 'My Universe,' features K-pop kings BTS and is already a number one, and the rest of the tunes are so unashamedly big they will likely follow.

Review: The Corrs' Talk on Corners stands as a high point in the band's career, blending their Irish roots with pop and rock elements. Originally released in 1997 in Ireland and 1998 in the US, the album became a staple for many, featuring hits like 'Only When I Sleep' and the dreamy cover of Fleetwood Mac's 'Dreams', which is given a Celtic twist with tin whistle and fiddle. Other standout tracks include the energetic 'I Never Loved You Anyway' and the instrumental 'Paddy McCarthy'. While comparisons to other family acts like Wilson Phillips might surface, the Corrs' sound is more distinct, thanks to their mix of traditional Irish instruments with savvy pop production. The album was re-released in 1999 with remixes of tracks like 'What Can I Do?' and 'So Young', which added more digital production and radio-friendly polish, but many fans still prefer the original's organic feel. Now available on gold vinyl 2xLP, Talk on Corners remains a beloved album that shows off the Corrs' unique ability to marry Irish folk with mainstream pop sensibilities.

Review: The Corrs return to their Celtic roots with their seventh studio album, blending familiar folk elements with their signature soft rock sound. Opening with 'Son of Solomon', the album features the tin whistle and violin that defined their early hits, with Andrea's emotive voice taking center stage. The album shines when the three sisters harmonise, evoking the charm of their early classics like 'Runaway'. Now pressed on red vinyl, tracks like 'SOS', addressing the Syrian refugee crisis, showcase the band's growing social awareness. 'Dear Life' cleverly blends lyrical wit with traditional instrumentation, while 'No Go Baby' offers a heartfelt, minimalist reflection on loss. The album closes with the melancholic, nearly eight-minute 'The Sun and the Moon', highlighting Andrea's vocal artistry. The band's harmonious rapport and Andrea's captivating vocals keep their sound fresh, is a nostalgic yet satisfying experience for longtime fans.

Review: In Blue, the celebrated album by The Corrs, finds the Irish siblings navigating the fine line between their Celtic roots and mainstream pop sensibilities. Initially striking a balance with their 1995 debut, Forgiven, Not Forgotten, the group has evolved, embracing a polished sound that resonates widely, particularly in the U.S. Their collaboration with renowned producer Robert John Lange infuses the album with radio-friendly appeal, evident in standout tracks like 'Breathless' and 'Irresistible'. While some fans may lament the departure from traditional instruments, the album showcases The Corrs' melodic strength and lyrical warmth, proving accessible to a broad audience. Songs like 'One Night' and 'No More Cry' inject moments of freshness amidst the pop sheen, highlighting the band's ability to craft catchy, memorable tunes. In Blue remains enjoyable, celebrating The Corrs' musical journey while introducing their sound to new listeners. Review: Reissued on yellow vinyl, Home by The Corrs marks a fitting tribute to their Irish heritage and late mother, capturing their classic blend of Celtic roots with polished pop sensibility. Originally released in 2006, this album reflects the band's true embrace of traditional Irish music, produced by Mitchell Froom and backed by the BBC Radio 2 Orchestra. The album elegantly balances traditional favoruites, like the haunting 'Black is the Color' and nostalgic 'Spancill Hill', with lively jigs such as 'Old Hag' and 'Haste to the Wedding'. Andrea Corr's angelic vocals shine, especially in Gaelic tracks 'Buachaill on Eirne' and 'Brid og Ni Mhaille', infusing the album with authenticity. Songs like Richard Thompson's 'Dimming of the Day' and Anna McGarrigle's 'Heart Like A Wheel' are soulful additions, while 'Old Town' feels slightly at odds with the folk theme. Avoiding overt sentimentality, Home stands as a lovingly crafted and intelligent collection of Celtic-inspired pop that fans and newcomers alike will find captivating.

Review: Boy George was a key figure in London's Blitz Club scene of the early 80s and with Culture Club he helped define the New Romantic movement that led the so-called "Second British Invasion" of the US with their 1982 debut album, Kissing to Be Clever. A number five hit in the UK and a global success at the time, the album featured the smash hit 'Do You Really Want to Hurt Me' and the lively 'I'll Tumble 4 Ya'. Blending new wave, pop, reggae and soul, their genre-crossing sound and bold fashion continue to influence today's artists which is why this one now gets a special reissue for National Album Day.

Review: The second album from Culture Club solidified their status as 1980s pop icons, surpassing their debut with a polished sound and global appeal. Kicking off with their biggest hit, 'Karma Chameleon', the album bursts with charm and infectious energy. While the track's instrumentation and lyrics are straightforward, the effortless blend of Boy George's unique voice and the band's vibrant arrangements create an undeniable dance anthem. The soulful depth of George's vocals reaches new heights on 'Black Money', enriched by harmonised backing vocals that beautifully complement his emotive delivery. Meanwhile, 'Time (Clock of the Heart)' is brilliant, combining heartfelt lyrics with a bass-driven melody that recalls the sophistication of contemporaries like Michael Jackson. The band's knack for turning simple melodies into rich, layered experiences is evident on 'Church of the Poison Mind', where a flute melody enhances the already dynamic composition. While 'That's the Way'ia stripped-back piano balladishowcases George's vocal prowess, it highlights how integral the full band is to their success.
A vibrant release, this album see Culture Club at their artistic and commercial peak.

Review: The ever-controversial but always good value Miley Cyrus serves up her seventh studio album including already big tunes like 'Midnight Sky' and 'Prisoner' featuring Dua Lipa. The record was started two years ago and was all figured out and finished, but then got deleted. Cyrus skas that not only was th emu gone, but the whole relevance of it given how much changed in her life since the record was started. As such she wrote a whole new collection of tunes that are now presented here. Soft rock and pop, ballads and harder tunes, big arena anthems and power-riffs all feature.

Review: It's already been a full decade since mega pop star Miley Cyrus went on a crash course to shatter her Hannah Montana image with the "controversial" Bangerz. Cropping her hair to near skinhead levels, endorsing free love and marijuana usage, and shooting an array of music videos that became viral hits thanks to endless twerking and nakedly riding atop a wrecking ball, the era was a ludicrous yet retrospectively vital time in the pop icon's career. The semi-aforementioned 'Wrecking Ball' would become a global smash hit while 'We Can't Stop' and 'Adore You' also made for chart-toppers that led to the album becoming an assured outlier in the once Disney-approved songstress' catalogue. Celebrating its ten year anniversary with a sea glass double LP reissue, there's never been a more ideal time to revisit this array of transformative, carefree bangers.

Review: Miley Cyrus is by now something of a young veteran of the global pop scene. Endless Summer Vacation is her eighth studio album and one that finds her fully leaving behind the upstart attitude with which she emerged. Here she pens a "love letter" to Los Angeles, which is where it was written, with producers such as Kid Harpoon, Tyler Johnson and Greg Kurstin all contributing. The lead single 'Flowers' set all-new streaming records as well as being Miley's first ever number one on the Billboard Global 200. The album is deeply personal and ushers in this new Miley era in style.
