Review: Loquace is back with his first release in four years, which is on Cesare vs Disorder's Serialism label. The Eternal Sunset EP sees the Frenchman remain centered in the minimal/tech house sound; whether it's the swing-fuelled shuffle of the title track on the sunny, minimal roller 'Side Effects' on the A side, to B side cuts going for UK vibe like 'Not Anymore' with its 2-step beat and, the new school nu-skool breaks of 'Bail Bresson'.

Feel My Desire

Feel My Desire (6:36)
Energy (6:06)
Show Me The Way (6:19)
Review: Hot Creations remains a great breeding ground fresh new tech house talent and also supplies plenty of dance floors with non-stop dancing fodder. Lorenzo De Blanc is next up to the mantle with a trio of razor sharp cuts - 'Feel My Desire' goes first and is a low slung and sleazy cut with a naughty bassline. The drums pump and the bass hits hard. 'Energy' then gets more hard edged, with snappy snares and a monstrous low end that will rattle walls in any club. 'Show Me The Way' shuts down with the funkiest cut of the lot - a slinky house rhythm with some old school piano energy. Lovely stuff.

Two Feet Up (6:56)
Remember Detroit (5:46)
Central Nervous Systems (6:49)
Path Of Tranquility (4:42)
Review: Los Hermanos returns with 'Remember Detroit,' a stellar addition to the Rawax Motor City Edition. Los Hermanos is known for creating big Detroit hits like 'Quetzal' and 'Birth of 3000'. 'Two Feet Up' is a straightforward Detroit techno anthem, big and emotional with soaring strings. A truly amazing track. 'Remember Detroit' captures the city's whimsical spirit with class and fun. 'Central Nervous Systems' channels Inner City's upbeat house energy, bringing pure, dancefloor joy. The EP's highlight might just be 'Path Of Tranquility,' a jazzy, mellow track that exudes smoothness and bliss, rounding off a diverse and complete release. Los Hermanos expertly encapsulates Detroit's rich musical heritage while pushing forward with fresh, invigorating sounds.

Review: Nazca returns with NAZCA 034V, a four-track house release featuring the unmistakable sounds of Los Suruba, out on September 27, 2024. Known for their eclectic and evolving catalogue, Nazca has previously brought us releases from artists like Rigopolar, Thodoris Triantafillou and Rodrigo Gallardo. This latest vinyl fits right into their signature style, blending atmospheric elements with groove-heavy beats. If you're a fan of DJ W!LD, Timid Boy, or Mark Fanciulli, NAZCA 034V will likely find a spot in your rotation.

Outer Signal (11:47)
Artform (7:50)
Review: Buoyed by the profile boost provided by Running Back's expanded reissue of his 1996 classic 'Open Door', Peter Kremeir AKA LoSoul brings his unique brand of dusty and hypnotic house to Rawax's RX series. He begins in confident fashion with 'Outer Signal', where squally flash-fried funk guitar notes and subtle synth tones get locked into redlined beats, dark stabs and looped bass. He flips the script on 'Art Form', offering for a pitched-down groove, fuzzy analogue bass, mind-mangling modular loops, trance-inducing house drums and echoing, soundsystem style bleeps. Basically, it's another top two-tracker from one of Germany's most singular-minded house producers.

B - "Stein" (5:19)
B - "Samples" (0:38)
Review: The second drop on Cheap Fast Worldwide finds Lou Raw and Lazerfocus getting into all kinds of trouble on the A-side whether solo or in collaboration with each other. Raw brings a sultry late night mood to chunky, uptempo house on 'Get On (Down With Me Tonight)' while Lazerfocus takes things blown out and deep-diving on the sublime 'Tubaloop' before they join forces to share their favourite samples from the two tracks. On the flip, the aptly titled B offers some cheeky, crafty wiggle business with DJ Marion on 'Natural Laws' before exploring a more fractured kind of electro experimentation which marks this label out as a hotbed of fresh ideas in a busy scene.

Humanity (7:08)
Humanity (Ki Mi remix) (7:40)
Shadow Tree (8:24)
Illustration (7:09)
Review: Veteran Russian producer Andrey Loud is back with another exploration of dancefloor minimalism with these three deep outings on Afterme. Precise production defines his style with tight drum loops and a warped bassline drawing you in while alien effects add the detail. A standout is the Ki.Mi. remix of 'Humanity' which reimagines the original with an extra bump in the drums and dry, textured hits. 'Shadow Tree' is a shimmering melange of silvery snares and hits with loopy bassline phrases perfect for cosy club spaces. 'Illustration' is a more introverted close with pensive pads and a moody atmosphere for the wee small hours.

Touche (5:45)
Ambush (6:28)
Scapeship (6:43)
Dizzy Hum (6:14)
Review: Eastenderz welcome Louden for a four-track journey of cheekily outta-space proportions, blending the best of tech funk with the more hypnotic ends of acid trance and bass. 'Touche' and 'Ambush' hold little back in the bare establishment of phattened drumbeat swing and flattened tonic funk and both tracks pepper their phrasal end-stops with plenty rewind SFX and chipmunked "ahem, music please" samples for good measure. 'Spaceship' and 'Dizzy Hum' move more furtively, the latter track especially opting for a glottal DX7 organ whose swing is almost too lingual to handle.

Nicolas Barnes - "Outro" (7:50)
Review: MixCult Records' latest release offers an atmospheric journey through deep and dub techno, featuring standout artists like Eric Louis, Kirill Matveev, Genning, TM Shuffle and Nicolas Barnes. Eric Louis's 'Voice Memo' opens the compilation with a haunting blend of soft bass pulses and ethereal vocals, setting a reflective tone. Kirill Matveev's 'Never Losing That Track (Genning Remix)' layers sweeping synths over a driving beat, creating a euphoric yet wistful energy that's perfect for early-morning dancefloors. On the B-side, TM Shuffle's 'Artist' dives into the dub techno world, its solid groove grounding listeners. Nicolas Barnes wraps things up with 'Outro', an ambient masterpiece that fades into introspective calm.

Review: One year after dropping back in 2023, Jennifer Loveless's bonafide anthem 'Pleasure' is back in the form of three thrilling reworks and a dub mix which expand its appeal into new realms. Parisian maestro Bambounou kicks things off with a jackin' remix bursting with energy while Lisbon-based veteran and Ibiza favourite tINI follows and offers up a bass-heavy electro-inspired rendition nodding to old-school vibes. Feel Young Again (Ricardo Villalobos remix) (16:24)
Don't Let The Light In (Ricardo Villalobos remix) (15:13)
Review: For fans of off-kilter, minimalistic dance music, there is little more exciting than seeing the words "Ricardo Villalobos remix" printed on to the label of a brand-new record. For all his faults, Villalobos rarely delivers a duff rework, and he's once again hot gold with these revisions of experimental art-rock ensemble Low Island. He first tackles 'Feel Low Again', reinventing the indie-rock cut as a low-slung chunk of woozy minimal techno full of drifting vocals, bubbly electro bass, distant cymbals and snare-heavy beats. On the flip Villalobos reworks 'Don't Let The Light In', offering a slightly less dense and undeniably energetic take full of oddly-tuned electro bass, glitchy sounds, hazy chords and layered vocal samples.

TipToes - "Same Old Sausage Chicken" (5:52)
Swales - "Release" (6:17)
Armless Kid - "Oui Oui La France" (6:59)
Review: The debut release on the all-new Theresipolis label comes with a cryptic note that "Obscurity is giving way to visibility. Amidst the human dissonance, those who hear will follow the beckoning sounds of Theresiopolis." Make of that what you will, or simply skip to the sounds. Lowres opens up with 'Otpusk' which is a mix of sharp, bright, futurist synth lines and dusty, low-key house drums. TipToes locks you into a nicely intertwined blend of congas, chords and drums on 'Same Old Sausage Chicken' and on the flip Swales keeps it dynamic but loose with the acid-laced space tech of 'Release. Armless Kid's 'Oui Oui La France' has jostling breaks urging you to get stuck in.

Hottpretty - "Make Me Yours" (6:12)
Mad Again - "The Night" (6:11)
Review: Killowat Hour is a collection of 90s-inspired gems that seamlessly blend new and old influences. On Side-1, LP Rhythm's 'Want Your Love' kicks things off with a nostalgic nod to prog and euro house, delivering a distinctly 90s vibe. Aida's title track, 'Killowat Hour,' ventures into futuristic techno territory, incorporating elements of new beat for a modern twist. Mance's 'Cross Reference' follows with bouncy techno rhythms, smooth melodies, and trance influences that keep the energy flowing. Other highlights include Hottpretty's 'Make Me Yours,' which takes listeners on a trancey, heady journey through early 90s techno, offering a vibrant and energetic experience. Mad Again's 'The Night' closes the collection with deep euro house vibes, adding a layer of sophistication to the nostalgic set. This compilation is idea for those who like deep house and those who appreciate the balance of classic and contemporary sounds.

Breakbleep (5:19)
My Little Kawai (6:46)
Summer Of Love (Endless mix) (5:52)
Summer Of Love (DJ Steve remix) (5:30)
Review: Few producers have proved quite as adept at crafting nostalgic slabs of dancefloor retro-futurism as Luca Lozano. The Sheffield-based producer's inspirations are hardly hidden - think bleep & bass, early breakbeat hardcore, acid house etc - but he still manages to meld familiar rave-era sounds into pleasing new shapes. The headline attraction on the producer's latest EP for Super Rhythm Traxx is arguably 'Summer of Love (Endless Mix)', a pleasingly bouncy, sub-heavy chunk of melody-laden, dub-flecked breakbeat attractiveness laced with spacey synth sounds and trippy electronics. It comes backed by a more upbeat breakbeat hardcore style revision from DJ Steve. Elsewhere, 'Breakbleep' lives up to its descriptive title and 'My Little Kawai' sounds like a deep house, acid-sporting tribute to Ability II style dub-wise UK techno.

Back 2 Me (6:08)
Review: There's no dip in quality to be found on Lucho's sophomore release, an impressive four-tracker for Magic Carpet that builds on the sounds and styles explored on the producer's 2020 debut on Decatur Records. What we get is deep house/tech-house fusion, with warming chords, sun-splashed electronics and bold, K1 organ basslines at the heart of the action. Choose between the picturesque, morning-fresh breeziness and acid-flecked squelch of 'Mind Chariot'; the immersive, tactile melodiousness of 'Mystery Guest (Chimes Mix)', the head-nodding, hip-hop break-propelled deep space dreaminess of 'Woogie Matrix' and the deep tech-house dancefloor soundscape that is the subtly bleep and bass-influenced title track.

B-STOCK: Record slightly warped
Review: ***B-STOCK: Record slightly warped***

For several years Luciano was one of the kings of the underground. The Swiss-Chilean rode the crest of the minimal wave and had his own distinctive Latin edge that marked him out in a class of one. Now he is back to DJing - often with his equally heralded brethren Ricardo Villalobos - as well as producing. Rawax has the latest goods from the man in the form of this suitably epic two-track EP. 'Assanti Sana' is all subtly shifting grooves and stringy percussive lines with some textured, expressionistic synth lines. 'In Xs' is deeper, and warmer, with ever-evolving rhythms and lots of stringy lines all woven together in an intricate fashion.

I Love My Friends
Review: Hardrock Striker's Stay Underground, It Pays label may be more intermittent these days, but when they drop a record it really counts for something. This latest drop comes from Luise, a resident DJ at Hannover club Weltspiele, who knows a thing or two about legit deep house for the heads. Her tracks have a timeless quality which shows she's schooled in the trade, knowing exactly the kind of understated flair to make a dancefloor track truly pop. 'Zen' is an especially ear-snagging, swung tune with a low-key hook which will get trainspotters racking their brains trying to place the source.

Review: Radio Slave's Rekids welcomes a Detroit house master in Monty Luke for what is a comprehensive excursion into deep house across nine exquisite new cuts. Dub, techno and more all help colour these soundwaves and first up is the shimmering electro rhythm of '40 Acres & A Terabyte' while 'Nightdubbing' gets more zoned out and smooth as it comes alive with shimmering synths over rolling beats. Elsewhere are more grinding groves like 'Starstorms' which recalls the early work of Carl Craig and 'Avant-Garde Dance Hall' is a deft dub workout.

Back In The Day (8:23)
I Leave (6:46)
Review: Although unlucky for some, this 13th outing from Purple Print is another doozy for lovers of minimal and tech house. It's Lemieux at the controls for four cuts of well worked dance floor dynamite. opening up is the deft, loopy, trippy sound of 'Put It Out' which is from the Villalobos school of minimalism. 'Jah' picks up the pace and is a deft, dubby sound with fizzy pads and clipped vocals adding the details. 'Back In The Day' layers up silky pads, vocoder vocals and underlapping bass into a sweeping minimal sound and last of all, 'I Leave' shuts down with a playful minimal dub sound and paranoid vocals.

Review: Romanian artist Lumieux joins Switzerland's Adam's Bite crew with the When I Think Of You EP. Hailing from Bucharest, Lumieux epitomises the region's style-stripped-back percussion, nuanced details. Known for releases on Subtil Records, Antrakt, and UVAR, and part of Sunrise Agency, Lumieux kicks off with 'Psycho' which spans nine minutes, blending murky dub chords, fluttering bass, and choppy vocals over a swinging groove. 'Tifosi' continues with choppy stabs and wandering bass, modulating percussion. 'What You Are To Me' on the B-side features twitchy synths, hypnotic vocals, evolving kicks. 'Nebula' closes with a plucked bass groove, delayed atmospherics, and saturated rhythm.

Review: Long-serving producers Lumieux (real name Preda Alin Razvan) and Alexis Cabrera (best-known for his solo releases on Atipic, Mulen and Raum...musik) join forces for the first time, collaboratively serving up a tidy tech-house four-tracker. They begin confidently, utilising plenty of analogue (and analogue-sounding) beats, bass and synth sounds on the swinging, low-slung box jam 'Celestial (Dub)', before opting for a trippy, hybrid dub techno/tech-house sound on the creepier 'Shifting Space'. Over on the flip, it's all about 'Subsonic Echo', a sparse chunk of tech-house wonkiness that comes backed by a more melodic, chord-heavy and spacey remix courtesy of Carbrera.

'Devil's Hand' has filthy bass and bumping drums with steamy vocals from singer-songwriter Kate Elsworth. Review: Make Your Own Meaning continues to convey its unique techno message with a new statement of intent from label head Lurka. The artist has been busy of late and continues to be on a roll with another fascinating four tracker that genuinely serves up some original sounds and rhythms. 'Trip' gets things underway with organic percussive patterns stacked up over drilling bass to make for a prickly groove. 'Airlock' is similar but darker and heavier and 'Sick Flips' keeps the nimble feel going with dancing perc, rigid synths and scratchy sound effects all coalescing over broken drum patterns. Last of all is another dense, busy and multi-layered melange of tiny percussive sounds, synths and clipped rhythms that will make any floor move.

Luschn steps up for the first EP and sets a high standard with it from the off. 'Track 1' is tech with a menacing undercurrent and an undulating rhythm while 'Track 2' gets a little more loose in its loops. The mood switches on the b-side, where disco-tech comes to the fore and some deft melodies bring a cosmic feel to 'Track 3'. Last of all, 'Track 4' is nice and dry, stripped back and whacked out tech from another planet.

Review: This EP's four tracks explore a range of styles within the house genre, from driving grooves to more ambient-tinged. The A-side opens with 'Mind Floating' (Ruffy Pagan Renip), a hypnotic track with a deep bassline, psychedelic synths and a driving beat, followed by 'Chcem Strongly' (Ruffy Surf N' Turf), a more relaxed and ethereal track with cosmic ambient techno and early trance influences. The B-side features two remixes of 'Mind Floating'. The Special Character Peaky Renip remix is a chord-heavy take on the original, while the original 2010 Secret version is a more electro-oriented interpretation. Carnedd Dafydd is a strong release from Luv Jam and Maria Slovakova, showcasing their versatility and skill as producers. The heavy balance of psychedelic and chill out is premier.

Criminal Issues also makes a vinyl debut here with the floor-facing 'Nxt2Me' and on the flip are a trio if tunes from Lucas, who has over a decade of experience in the game.

Rhythm Rituals

Jad & The - "Headphones In Space" (5:20)
Pocket - "Smoke Signals" (6:32)
DJ Relax - "Anti Free Flowing Anxiety" (7:34)
Local Support - "Dreaming Of" (6:50)
Review: Effortless fusions of broken beat and rabbit hole prog-acid on this latest from Speed Dial. After a slight hiatus, the imprint is back, and is here joined by a slew of underground talent, coming together as one for a combinative set of 'Rhythm Rituals'. Surprisingly for a set of rituals, the three A-siders proffer three wordless mudras (as opposed to incanted mantras), with Mtty's 'Ahhhhh!cid' laying down a two-stepping breaks dust-storm replete with bells, ufologic risers and ectoplasmic synth flatulences; and Pocket's 'Smoke Signals' imparting the ways of long-distance telegraphy by way of a deeper four-wheel drive, with indo-Australian chants sampled therein. B-side helmers DJ Relax and Local Support offer two contradistinct Balearic beats, the former track veering more chuggy and auto-suspensive, in contrast to the latter's emotive, e-organic builds and vox gates.

Moonlight (Alfa mix) (7:27)
Moonlight (Gamma mix) (5:55)
Moonlight (Alex Neri remix) (6:29)
Moonlight (Alessio Collina Tribe Acid remix) (6:00)
Review: In its formative years in the first half of the 1990s, IRMA offshoot Calypso Records released some of the finest Italo-house records of the period. By the middle of the decade, though, the imprint was dipping its toe into darker and infinitely more druggy territory. DJ Nabile's 'Moonlight', featuring some chanted and spoken lead vocals byLucio Baradel, played a key role in this transformation. All these years on, it still sounds fresh. Side A boasts two of the earliest versions: the mind-mangling 'Alfa Mix', where dark and moody, Tenaglia-esque motifs ride an extra-percussive tribal house groove, and the more rolling 'Gamma Mix'. Over on the flip you'll find two previously unreleased takes - a throbbing, heavy and warped bass-propelled Alex Neri revision, and Alessio Colina's stomping and hallucinatory 'Tribe Acid Remix'.

Emi Omar - "You & Me" (6:58)
Chud - "Tomorrow's Made Of Breaks" (5:15)
Vivant - "Zeus" (5:22)
Review: It has been a rather remarkable three years since Yuko dropped its first release, but finally, they are back with more. It is co-founder Emo Omar who features both solo and in collaboration with Luje from Club Pizza while two exciting new French talents Chud and Vivant also make their mark. 'Pollen' is a bright and hooky melodic electro sound then 'You & Me' gets more percussive, with old school cow bells staying busy next to all sorts of wonky synth work. 'Tomorrow's Made Of Breaks' is built on rigid funk and trippy synth bleeps and 'Zeus' shuts down with some retro-future vocoder vocals. This is a great return from a label we hope now pushes on.

Asa Tate - "Dog Years" (6:20)
Review: Detroit-raised, London-based Demi Riquisimo assembles a dynamic mix of label favourites and fresh talent on Love State, the 22nd release from his Semi Delicious imprint. This six-track V/A hears offerings from Demi himself alongside Clint, Swoose, Lulah Francs, Dukwa, Anastasia Zem & Asa Tate, blending club modernity with classic analogue dance influences, sampling every sonic cate from Italo to tech house. Best among the bunch has to be Swoose's 'Re/Vision' and Anastasia Zems' 'Eternal Beauty', which bring together wasted electro, Italian new beat and trance for well-measured tinctures of dreaminess.

Review: Mattia Lapucci (Burbi / BurbiDub) and Francy Ricci's inaugural 1551 EP on the Cow Beats label last year was rather impressive, and here's the much awaited follow up. "Dark System" is a chunky, all-analogue sounding minimal house stomper in the vein of Spacetravel or Fabe. Spaniard Do Or Die aka Drugwork (My Own Jupiter/Libertine) ushers you aboard the acid express on his frantic remix up next. Over on the flip, get deep into the rave on the restrained epic "Let's Go Owners" followed by the hypnotic bleep techno journey "Galactic Storm".

Water Drop EP Part 1
Cat: MOVIDA 0161. Rel: 20 Dec 23
Somfay - "Arborvitae (A Voice Like Water)" (8:46)
Luc Ringeisen & Funk E - "Treinta Y Siempre" (7:33)
Polyfan Polyphenix - "Polymorph 2" (7:02)
Review: The cultured Movida label rolls out more of its tasteful tech and minimal jams with the Water Drop EP Part 1. Somfay opens up proceedings with 'Arborvitae' (A Voice Like Water) which is a zoned out roller with chords that encourage you to gaze off to the future. The b-side starts with Luc Ringeisen & Funk E's 'Treinta Y Siempre', a tender electronic lullaby with gently broken beats and then things get much more scuffed up and dubby with Polyfan Polyphenix's 'Polymorph 2' which is a languid rhythm that makes you want to move nice and loose.

Waterdrop EP Part 1
Cat: MOVIDA 0161. Rel: 20 Nov 23
Somfay - "Arborvitae (A Voice Like Water)" (8:47)
Luc Ringeisen & Funk E - "Treinta Y Siempre" (7:33)
Polyfan Polyphenix - "Polymorph 2" (7:02)
Review: There's plenty to get sucked into on this latest 12" transmission from Germany's Movida. It is Part 1 of a new Waterdrop EP from a quartet of artists. Somfay goes it alone to start with on the far-sighted and zoned-out house of 'Arborvitae (A Voice Like Water). Luc Ringeisen & Funk E then link up for 'Treinta Y Siempre' which is a lithe and sleek electro-tinged rhythm with lovely downbeat bass notes and more uplifting melodic patterns. Last of all is Polyfan Polyphenix, a jittery and rugged rhythm with razor sharp hi-hats and twisted vocals that bring a leftfield sound to 'Polymorph 2.'
