Review: Semi Delicious return for their sixteenth edition with the impressive 'Asylum Of Love' V/A, inviting faces old and new to the imprint. A label noted for bringing together impressive collections of talent, SEMID016 is no exception, with six separate contributions from Krywald & Farrer, Gallegos, Tatie Dee, Omar Smadar & DJ Gear, Scarlett O'Malley & label boss, Demi Riquisimo. The A-side welcomes Krywald & Farrer, Gallegos and Tatie Dee, kicking off with 'Seize The Source' from the aforementioned Krywald & Farrer, before label regular Gallegos tops things up with 'Asylum of Love', and finally, Dee's 'For My Niece'. The B brings the most jubilant of the bunch, 'Check One', while this tonal up-shift continues with 'Hey Party People', before finally closing on Demi's finishing touch that is a version of 'Rocking You Internally' from his own 'Mirage Over' EP, released on the same imprint. All quality house here.

Surrender The Body EP
Cat: SEMID 018. Rel: 14 Jun 24

Deep House
Pick Me Up
Surrender The Body
Perceptions
Ruminating
Review: Hot pink deep house wax that simply refuses to wane. For the eighteenth release on London's Semi Delicious, producer Revivis urges to 'Surrender The Body'; what this means isn't quite elaborated on, perhaps simply because when we're presented with house music of this voracity - this audacity - we really don't need words. Opener 'Pick Me Up' leads the charge with hard-landed synths and organs backed up by camp vocal samples; then the title track gets numinous with it, recalling acid trance on the level of Mothers' Pride or Skinnymalinky with its contrasting piano breakdowns and extraterrestrial stabs; then the B-side moves more reflective, with 'Perceptions' and 'Ruminating' delivering two further perplexities of mood.

Reconfigured II
Reconfigured II (hand-stamped orange vinyl 12")
Cat: SEMID 014. Rel: 21 Dec 22

Disco/Nu-Disco
Mirage Over (Manami remix) (5:09)
Point One (Gallegos remix) (7:33)
Sanitise (Gina Breeze remix) (6:00)
Anxious Elephants (Asa Tate remix) (7:42)
Review: Two years ago, Demi Riquisimo invited friends and like-minded producers to rework tracks he'd released on his own Semi Delicious label. Now he's decided to repeat the exercise on a belated, if welcome, sequel. Bristol-based Manami steps up first, brilliantly re-imagining 'Mirage Over' as a trippy, mind-mangling, sun-fresh slab of progressive techno goodness rich in bubbly electronics, all-action bass and deep space chords, before Gallegos re-frames 'Point 1'as an acid-fired, cowbell-powered fusion of kaleidoscopic nu-disco, slick house and Italo-disco revivalism. Over on the flip, Gina Breeze delivers a throbbing, trance-inducing tweak of 'Sanitise', while Asa Tate reaches for synthesised pan pipes, dream house piano stabs and sunrise electronics on a pulsating, glassy-eyed take on 'Anxious Elephants'.

Review: Subb-an's latest EP on the Sub Series imprint, titled Conscious, marks a dynamic return for the artist, displaying an evolution towards heightened musical and spiritual awareness. The EP features five equanimous club tracks, each distinct in its style and vision. 'Liquid Sun' kicks off the journey with a blend of deeper vibes and uplifting tones, offering a track that appeals to a wide audience. 'Contact' follows with its chord-driven, house-styled groove, adding a layer of depth to the EP's sonic landscape. Other highlights include, 'Wobble', which dives into a late-night deep groove, exuding a playful energy that keeps the dance floor moving. Throughout the EP, Subb-an demonstrates his ability at making intricate rhythms and hypnotic basslines, creating an immersive experience for listeners akin to his amazing DJing sets. From garage house to brooding acid, each track is carefully crafted to leave a great experience on the dancefloor.
