Direkt - "Friyay" (7:48)
Pierre C - "Fragrance" (7:45)
UserUNKWNW & Soyro - "RNDM" (7:13)
Review: Inaugural vinyl from new London-based minimal/tech house label Outpunkt here. After a series of digital releases, they are proud to present to you their first release on wax. It features the ever reliable Silat Beksi from Ukraine serving up something a bit more dubby than usual on the atmospheric groove of 'Roundup', followed by Romania's Direkt who delivers the hypnotic and ethereal bliss of 'Friyay'. Turn over to side B and you have Pierre C with the emotive and bass-driven main room action of 'Fragrance' and closing it out with the rolling drama of userUNKNWN & Soyro's 'Rndm'.

Micronica Limited Vol 1
Micronica Limited Vol 1 (white vinyl 12")
Cat: MICRWAX 001. Rel: 12 Jan 23
Silat Beksi - "Seq-Roar" (7:56)
Lulla - "Working The Machine" (7:46)
USERUNKNWN & Soyro - "4th Planet" (8:48)
DIN & IOAN - "Two Parallels" (7:47)
Review: Micronica is a Latvian label which has been pushing a classy strain of minimal tech house for some time now. This is the first 12" they've put out themselves, but many of the label's core crew were featured on Romanian label Storytellers back in 2020. If you like your minimal undulating and blissful (and who doesn't?), you'll love the sweeping swathes of pads permeating Silat Beksi's 'Seq-Roar', while Lulla's 'Working The Machine' folds a little trippy flair into the mix with trancey pings nestled in between the groove. UserUNKWN & Soyro team up for the supremely mellow roller '4th Planet', and label heads D I N and IOAN leave the peak time behind to focus on a seriously submerged after hours sound peppered with artful sound design.

Esser (12")
Cat: KRV 013. Rel: 21 Sep 20
Esser (7:41)
Intercept (7:22)
Too Far (8:44)
Review: Having previously offered up collaborations with userUNKNWN on Rhanamh and Pianoforest Records, Soyro has finally been given a chance to showcase his solo productions. Esser is a quietly impressive first EP, with the fast-rising producer flitting between picturesque dreaminess underpinned by typically crunchy drums (the gorgeous title track), bubbly deep house/tech-house fusion ('Intercept', whose lengthy breakdown is an energy-building delight), and darker, more sludgy territory (the Eastern European minimalism of 'Too Far', which sounds like it was partly inspired by the joint works of Ricardo Villalobos and Max Loderbauer). As debuts go, it's a confident affair full of tightly focused club cuts.

Prelude To Foundation EP
Cat: MARU 007. Rel: 24 Jan 23
Prelude (8:17)
Foundation (7:45)
Prelude (Suolo remix) (12:35)
Review: Aussie imprint Maru is back with an impressive double header from Israel's Soyro and the mysterious editor USERUNKNWN. On the first side is 'Prelude', an ethereal tech house groove that rolls deep yet aimed surely at the main room dancefloor. Over on the flip, there's the rolling and bass driven 'Foundation' which again nails that Rominimal vibe and features a truly evocative atmosphere. Over on the flip, Bucharest-based DJ/producer Suolo gets onboard for a microhouse remix of the A-side track, taking it into heady afterhours territory.

Abduction004
Cat: ABD 004. Rel: 05 Jan 21
Userunknwn & Soyro - "Signum Proxima" (8:11)
Bucurie - "Time For Space" (6:44)
Rares Romanov - "Rush Hour" (7:16)
Cerec - "Pulmotor" (7:48)
Review: Following the explosive Direkt EP last summer, Rowle Music's vinyl-only project Abduction return to their V/A roots with four fresh flavours from exciting new acts hailing from every corner of the minimal galaxy. Userunknwn and Soyro tag team for a silky dubbed out adventure that's not dissimilar to Sascha Dive. Romanian newcomer Bucurie follows with a slab of psychedelic breaks before we flip for two more dark gems. Rares Romanov taps into that hip-shaking, conga-fuelled Luciano vibe before Cerec closes the show on the warmest tip of the set. Bouncy, fat but still stripped back, think Swayzak or Luke Solomon's output from the early 2000s and you're in the right playground. Bon voyage.

JUUZ 004
JUUZ 004 (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: JUUZ 004. Rel: 10 Jan 25
Zlatnichi & RWN - "Trekoolio Perskulio" (7:11)
Silat Beksi & Soyro - "Shout In 30 Seconds" (7:22)
Last Pines - "Sway" (7:04)
Fedo - "Lena Told" (6:42)
Review: Juuz Records box up, package and release the fifth edition in their vinyl only series. Silat Beksi, Soyro, RWN and Zlatnichi are the latest artists to be spotlit, and all of them deliver a seamless minimal techno experience, teeming with tics and fidgets, the four-piece sonic equivalent of a gut microbiome. Usually, we like to home in on the oddest tunes and we'll certainly indulge the impulse here; Silat Beksi and Soyro's 'Shout In 30 Seconds' makes impressive use of gurgly, subharmonic dream-voices, swabbed across the otherwise sticklike mix, like glue holding a skeleton together. Equal technical and ambisonic itches are scratched on Fedo's closing 'Lena Told', whose transitional vocal scramblings play back like furtive rumours spread through a fragile transmission chain.
