Review: Incredibly, it is almost two full decades since Echospace and Rod Modell's legendary Deepchord project dropped the original version of this album. Happily, it has aged to perfection and gets reissued here with the first-ever remix from Gerard Hanson aka Convextio. Next to that are a series of dubs and mixes that result in widescreen dub landscapes, soft synth plumes, delicate melodic curlicues and some of the headiest electronic music you could possibly immersive yourself in.

Review: DIIV formed back in 2011 and made big impressions within the blog world and then the real world after debut single 'Sometime' picked up plenty of attention. It was follow up with two further singles as well as a cover of a Kurt Cobain tune 'Bambi Slaughter' and to mark the 10 year anniversary all of their debut album all of these 7"s re pulled together on vinyl and serve as a great reminder of where the band has come from. They scream DIY and are very indicated of the Brooklyn scene out of which they were born with songs that muse on love in all its many different ways.

Review: The late, great Nathan Coles is rightly hailed as UK tech house royalty - an originator in the scene who embodied its headsy, underground energy in the long and winding years before the sound broke through to its ubiquitous popularity it enjoys now. Of the many projects he turned his talent to, Get Fucked found him studio sparring with Nils Hess around the turn of the millennium on labels like Eukahouse. Now leading tech house reissue label Repeat have gathered together the best of the singles, and as you might well expect it's heavyweight, rolling gear for the late night marathon crew, crafted masterfully with grit and groove in equal measure.

Review: This wonderful album delivers a tight, vibing collection of traditional old-time Appalachian music. Featuring Liam Grant on guitar, Grayson McGuire on fiddle and Devon Flaherty on banjo and guitar, this debut recording brims with raw, authentic talent. It was recorded straight to cassette with no overdubs and despite the carefree atmosphere, the trio expertly channels the spirit of old-time music. Tracks like 'Dry and Dusty' and 'Taner's Farm' reflect their playful yet poignant approach by blending upbeat melodies with deeper themes of rural life and hard times. This one is a real charmer.

Review: The second instalment of Mike Huckaby's My Life With The Wave series again showcased his seamless fusion of Detroit deep house and techno, all made using only the Waldorf Wave synth, samples of which come on a separate CD with this 12". First up, 'Let The Dancer Do His Thing' offers a slow-burning groove with dusty drums and atmospheric synths, while 'Phuture' intensifies with jazzy melodies and cymbal-heavy rhythms. On the flip, 'Baseline 313' delivers soulful electric piano loops, tribal percussion and fat bass, before closing with the playful, fluttering deepness of 'Another Fantasy.' Huckaby's timeless artistry shines through every track.

Review: On limited heavyweight black-label vinyl come yet more samurai-themed various arts from the Berlin d&b dramaturgists at Samurai Music, clocking in at an insanely portentous 13 tracks. Also marking their hundredth vinyl release, the label honour their nearly 17-year existence with aspirant, boundary-pushing, dark drum & bass numbers, all sourced internationally. Representative of the Samurai Music sound is an intense brand of technically scratchy, yet smoothly intoned atmoss - one that doesn't fall prey to overburdening by drums and retains an emphasis on nyctophonic, serene scapes. Its star selections - the sonic katanas that refract the most light in the dark - have to be ASC's techno-informed 'S100' and Mako's intricately designed mammoth of a track, 'Get Away With It'.

Astral Pilot - "The Day After"
Review: Given that he's been active as a producer since the dawn of the 90s, it would be fair to say that Sven Vath is well worthy of an authoritative, expansive retrospective. That's certainly what we get here on this quadruple-vinyl mix of classic productions and fresh, eye-catching remixes. It's the latter that dominate the early stages of the collection - see Adam Port's hypnotic, didgeridoo-sporting revision of 'Ritual of Life', Speedy J's acid-fired stomp through 'Ballet-Fusion' - before Vath showcases some of his choice cuts. There's naturally to set the pulse racing, from the twisted, sub-heavy thump of 'Cala Llonga' and the tactile hypnotism of 'Sounds That Control Your Life', to the electroclash-meets-Kraftwerk flex of 'Dein Schweiss' and the ambient techno excellence of 'The Day After', a 21- minute epic from 1995 produced alongside Steffen Britzke as Astral Pilot.

Review: "The Box" is a collection of the earliest and perhaps most cherished recordings by UK producer Dennis Huddleston, better known as 36. Written between 2005 and 2012, it compiles the albums Hypersona (2009), Hollow (2010) and Lithea (2012) into a 6LP boxset, alongside a bonus LP of exclusive and unreleased tracks titled Orphans. Originally written as a triptych, The Box showcases an incredibly eclectic, deeply emotional range of tracks, bridged together by that optimistic melancholy, which has since become the hallmark of the 36 sound.

Review: Dreamloops marks the highly anticipated vinyl debut of 36's album, a masterwork from Dennis Huddleston (known as 36. This deluxe four-LP set spans two-and-a-half hours, featuring eight tracks, each a standalone 18-minute composition. Huddleston's signature style dreamlike, introspective midnight music, blends hypnotic loops with evolving melodies that are both captivating and deeply emotional. Originally released in 2019 as a cassette series, Dreamloops was revisited by Huddleston in 2023 to bring newfound clarity and cohesion. The tracks, while rooted in repetition, are far from static, continuously unfolding with subtle shifts in texture and emotion. Huddleston's music is enriched by intentional imperfections like tape hiss and wow & flutter, which add a layer of nostalgic warmth and depth. Dreamloops is a profound listening experience. Huddleston's ability to blend ambient warmth with haunting melodies is strong reasons his albums are so respected. He rewards deep and attentive listening. This collection, praised for its emotive and atmospheric power, continues 36's rising status in modern ambient music.

Review: Originally formed in 1980 in Reno, Nevada, 7 Seconds are often credited as one of the most vital and criminally overlooked pioneering hardcore punk acts. Following on from their much-adored 1985 EP-cum-LP Walk Together, Rock Together, their 1986 follow up New Wind featured slower tempos and a notable imbuing of melody, with the project going on to be credited as an integral blueprint for the hardcore scene's eventual embracing and transition into pop-punk and indie rock. This long overdue reissue from Trust Records arrives complete with the complimentary Change In My Head, which is a totally new take on the classic album featuring tracks remixed in their entirety by Ian MacKaye (Minor Threat, Fugazi) alongside Inner Ear Studios' Don Zientara. Restoring and reimagining unreleased cuts from the original LP such as 'Change In My Head' and 'Compro', these bonus tracks offer a fresh snapshot of 7 Seconds in transition, but still very much firmly rooted in their hardcore ethos (before literal U2 comparisons would arise with later output). This limited double LP also comes with a 24-page oral history featuring unseen photographs, flyers, and memorabilia.

Review: Ocala, Florida's easycore heroes A Day To Remember have become legends within the scene thanks to their fearless approach and compositional knack for marrying the most saccharine of earworm melodies with heaving, venomous metallic fury; resulting in an incomparable fluid style of post-metalcore meets pop-punk. While breaking onto the scene with 2007's acclaimed For Those Who Have Heart, it was 2009's third full-length Homesick that would catapult the band to the stratosphere, casting a larger light than ever before on the myriad of underground circles that made up their sonic makeup. Arriving on a deluxe gatefold edition to commemorate the album's 15th anniversary, complete with a bonus Live In Switzerland LP plus acoustic renditions of deep cuts, this long overdue reissue seeks to remove the sizzle from the steak of so many Discogs flippers, while boasting some of the biggest ADTR bangers from the gang-vocal camaraderie of 'The Downfall Of Us All' to the seething aggression and monumental breakdown of 'Mr. Highway's Thinking About The End' all the way to the acoustic pop-punk poetics of 'If It Means A Lot To You'.

Review: Los Angeles trio Acetone were one of the most quietly influential bands of the 1990s, blending elements of country, folk, and psychedelic rock into a unique sound that was all their own. Fans of Duster, Mazzy Star or Slint - but for whom a lilting country twang is also a necessary ingredient in the listening pie - will be sated. 1992-2001 collects the band's entire discography, including their legendary album If You Only Knew, which has been out of print for years. Sensitive, plodding and occupying only the haziest of backwaters of memory for most, highlights from this eerie LITA throwback include the tracks 'Germs' and 'Midnight Cowboy'. But all the tracks do the job, to be honest.

This track exemplifies their mastery in transforming a classic sound into a delightfully off-kilter, reality-distorting experience within the realm of acid techno. This release follows Acid Pimp's return to 'Acid Pimping' in 2019, leaving us eager to embrace more sonic innovations from this creative maven.

Review: Colours Revisited isn't just a nod to Adam F's 1997 Colours but a wholly reconstructed journey that blends the echoes of late 90s drum and bass with new layers of live instrumentation. Rather than dusting off the original, Adam F digs deep, pairing soulful grooves with UK jazz virtuoso Julian Joseph's keys and the rich textures of re-recorded vocals by Kirsty Hawkshaw. A standout, 'Metropolis' channels the Metalheadz-issued original's punch with a vivid, rhythmic pulse, while 'Music in My Mind' echoes Herbie Hancock's influence. The album pulses with both reverence and reinvention, casting classic tracks in a fresh sonic space where analogue warmth meets carefully layered modernity. This is Colours, all brilliantly retold for a new era.

Review: The sixth album by American scene/screamo band AFI hears a timely 20th Anniversary reissue here. Hinting at a more gothic direction and an abandonment of their former footings in hardcore punk and horrorpunk, we hear Davey Havok and co. move through fast-paced punk and spitty vocals as ever, harking back to a much earlier time (2003) in which this genre sadly held more weight. Like a high school drama plunged into a nightmarish vampire apocalypse, the blend of sounds here are perfect for a late-night Twilight or Buffy binge - with sad piano interludes interspersed with grungey axe washouts and ruminations on hopelessness and despair.

Review: This live recording by Ahmad Jamal and his trio is a timeless classic, showcasing the subtle yet captivating interplay between Jamal, bassist Israel Crosby and drummer Vernell Fournier. Known for his minimalist approach, Jamal's piano playing is marked by light, playful riffs that swing effortlessly, often making a single note resonate with more impact than a complex phrase. Fournier's drumming is a masterclass in taste and pocket, providing a rhythmic foundation that allows Jamal to glide through each tune with ease. Crosby's bass work is rock-solid, shaping both the rhythm and melodic framework of the music. The standout track is undoubtedly the vibrant rendition of 'Poinciana', where the trio's chemistry truly shines, transforming the song into a fresh, innovative experience. The album is filled with accessible yet masterfully executed jazz standards, offering a perfect introduction to Jamal's distinctive style. Despite its brevity, the performance is an immersive, joyful experience, with each track showing the trio's impeccable skill and smooth groove. While some may have initially underestimated Jamal's style, this live session proved his influence on the genre, leaving a lasting mark on jazz history.

Review: Earlier in the year, British-Bahraini jazz musician Yazz Ahmed delivered her second album, a set so good that one critic (rightly) described it as "a modern jazz masterpiece". This surprisingly speedy follow-up is almost as good, and sees the masterful trumpeter and her musical accomplices guide us through a series of inventive original "fusion" compositions that variously fuse elements of big band jazz, Arabic musical culture, spiritual jazz, cinematic soundscapes, Afro-Cuban jazz and Blaxploitation-era jazz-funk. In other words, it's another strong set that confirms that looming superstar status of the effortlessly brilliant Ahmed.

Released in 1970 as part of Victor's Japanese Jazz series, it's all about capturing what it means to be Japanese through music. The album showcases an incredible synergy between Takeo Moriyama's dynamic drumming, Yasuo Arakawa's rich bass grooves, and Masahiko Sato's expressive piano work, all beautifully complementing Miyazawa's heartfelt saxophone. It's a stunning tribute to nostalgia and nature, making it an essential piece of cultural history.

Review: Sea Horse is a live album by Japanese reed instrument master Akira Miyazawa, together with a later incarnation of his quarrelsome quartet. One of his later 80s works - recorded after his return to jazz following a hiatus in the 1970s - Sea Horse thoroughly blurs hard distinctions between 'live album' and 'studio album', as its reissuer Light In The Attic rightly notes that the listener can barely hear the presence of the audience in the recording - though it is there. A mixture of both standards and originals are heard here, and all are brought together by Miyazawa's masterful saxophone playing, not least for Duke Ellington's 'In A Sentimental Mood', or Miyazawa's own, 'Baby Sea Horse'.

Review: Alive Cooper's 1971 classic Killer was his fourth studio album during a truly unstoppable period for the Detroit rocker. He clocked up consecutive platinum-selling albums as well as five Top 40 hits such 'I'm Eighteen,' 'School's Out' and 'No More Mr. Nice Guy.' This reissue comes alongside a reissue of the 1972 album School's Out and has been newly remastered with the addition of rare recordings and previously unreleased live performances. This one topped out at #21 on the Billboard albums chart and featured hit singles such as 'Under My Wheels' and 'Be My Lover' as well as a prog-rock-inspired epic in the shape of 'Halo Of Flies.'

Review: America is a legendary rock trio that burst onto the scene in the early 70s with their iconic debut America (Friday Music 9001), featuring the hit 'A Horse With No Name.' Their success continued with chart-topping singles that led Warner Records to release their first best-of collection, History/America's Greatest Hits in 1976. Produced by George Martin, the album included hits like 'Ventura Highway,' 'Tin Man,' 'Sister Golden Hair' and 'Lonely People.' This multi-platinum compilation is now available for the first time on Translucent red vinyl with fine mastered from original tapes by Joe Reagoso that preserve the warmth of their classic original tracks.

Review: A new standard black 5xLP box set to complement an alternate bicoloured deluxe version; The American Analog Set's formative first three albums - The Fun Of Watching Fireworks, From Our Living Room To Yours, and The Golden Band - are here gathered together under the name New Drifters, making up a great account of experimental breadth of the late 1990s Texas scene, and its utlimate expression in the work of this fivesome set of slowcorers. We hear a long take, as the band deliver a slow burning power-of-three for local monopolist Emperor Jones, all while quelling the thrums of fin-de-siecle angst by way of soft-sung tenors, emo catharses and sawn-off math rhythms. Notably but disputably described as "sloth kraut", there's a sepia-toned feel to the whole thing, but it's anything but lethargic; rather, it's beautiful. Remastered from the original analog tapes, this early-career spanning 5xLP box includes lyrics, photos and ephemera from the before times.

Review: The Ancients, an intergenerational coalition of free jazz masters, deliver a powerful and evocative double LP that resonates with the spirit of improvisation and collective expression. Isaiah Collier, William Hooker, and William Parker, brought together by Parker for concerts in conjunction with the Milford Graves exhibition at the ICA Los Angeles, weave a tapestry of sound that draws upon the rich legacy of free jazz while forging their own unique path. Across two LPs of long-form improvised sets, recorded in Los Angeles and San Francisco, the trio explores the sonic terrain first charted by the likes of Cecil Taylor and Ornette Coleman, their interplay showcasing some electric, spontaneous creation. Collier's tenor saxophone soars with fiery intensity, while Hooker's drums crackle with a restless energy and Parker's bass anchors the music with a deep, resonant foundation. This is music that speaks to the heart of the human experience, a tribute to the power of improvisation to transcend boundaries and connect us to the deeper currents of life.

Review: Was anyone ready for one of the most talked-about albums of the year to be Andre 3000 going ham on the flute? Probably not, but in a post-reality world New Blue Sun just slots right in. Of course the legions of Outkast fans are going to be split when an artist of such prominence takes a wild swerve into experimental musical pastures, but for those with an open mind or a pre-existing appreciation of ambient and leftfield music, this album is an easy sell. Teasing the tension between acoustic and electronic, ancient and hypermodern, grounded and ethereal, Andre has been bold and honest in presenting this album to the world and his gamble has paid off.

Now, A Beautiful Day, Revisited from Palmetto Records enhances this experience with a remixed and remastered edition that expands the recording's depth and detail. Producer Matt Balitsaris adds previously unreleased material, including a second, unique rendition of the title track and a lengthened version of '11/8' featuring Hill's introductions of each ensemble member. Hill's band, with improvisers like Greg Tardy, Marty Ehrlich and Ron Horton, creates a rich, expressive soundscape that balances Hill's compositional elegance with spontaneous, free-jazz momentum.

Review: Anthrax's Sound of White Noise marked a pivotal shift in the band's sound and lineup. Released in 1993 and with new vocalist John Bush, formerly of Armored Saint, Anthrax infused their thrash metal roots with grunge and alternative rock influences. The album, produced by Dave Jerden, features standout tracks like 'Only' and 'Black Lodge,' showcasing a darker, more mature tone. Sound of White Noise received critical acclaim for its innovation and depth, and achieved commercial success by peaking at number seven on the Billboard 200. This album remains a significant entry in Anthrax's discography and one that symbolises their evolution and adaptability in the 90s metal scene.

The first performance in January featured Tatsuhisa Yamamotoon on drums and the second in February made up a quartet formation with the addition of bassist Hitoshi Watanabe. The two ultra-talented musicians provide us a glimpse into how the music of Jun Miyake and Ichiko Aoba is made and this record breathes into their practice a new life.

Rhubarb Orc 19.53 Rev (6:43)
Review: It's the album that redefined ambient music, not least for a generation of parasympathetic ravers. Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Volume II marked a stylistic shift away from the first edition in the infamous ambient LP 'series', Selected Ambient Works 85-92. Volume II differed substantially; this time, there would be no 'techno' addendum to 'ambient', and all tracks thereupon would lack the usual indulgence of beats, however easy-on-the-ears these had been beforehand. Known for its many numbered tracks - which on the original edition, rather than track names, denoted references to images of natural forms, textures and geologic readymades, all bathed in orange, and from which fans had to infer the written names - this expanded edition stays faithful to this origin. Even so, it adds two unreleased D Jamesian treats - provided you don't count the massive Soundcloud dump of 2015 as a release - 'th1 [evnslower]' and a reversed version of 'Rhubarb' - as well as a the previously vinyl only '#19'.

Review: Born in Kent and central to the UK's 70s jazz modernism, Neil Ardley composed with the precision of a scientist and the vision of a cosmic philosopher. This long-overdue reissue from Analogue October captures a project that translates planetary orbits into a nine-note harmonic systemitoo vast for acoustic instruments, brought to life instead through early synthesisers. 'Arcturus' and 'Spiral Nebula' interlace fluid sax work from Barbara Thompson with John Martyn's signature reverb-drenched guitar, while Geoff Castle's synths evoke deep-space drift. 'Rainbow Four' channels modal funk, and 'Neptune' floats into ambient abstraction. Produced at Morgan Studios with a full ensemble of jazz heavyweightsiTony Coe, Ian Carr, Billy Kristian, Richard Burgess, and Trevor Tomkinsithis is a record that swings between science fiction and symphonic elegance. For all its high concept, it remains rooted in groove and human touch. A meticulous AAA cut from the Decca master tapes seals the experience: a bold and beautiful reminder of how far British jazz once dared to travel.

If that wasn't monumental enough, just know that this lengthy classical-experimental-jazz album is certainly Miguel's intended magnum opus, having been written and recorded entirely as a result of his own uncompromised, self-funded efforts. Such an extensive time period reflects an album of longstanding personal growth for the artist; an attitude of continual evolution and innocence, of constantly coming of age and reinventing oneself.

Review: From the wreckage of Free came Bad Company, the English hard rock supergroup fronted by singer Paul Rodgers and featuring his drummer bandmate Simon Kirke, Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs, and King Crimson bassist Boz Burrell. Peter Grant, who managed the rock band Led Zeppelin, also managed Bad Company until 1982. The group's eponymous 1974 album debut decidedly proves the band is proudly not progressive - the details make a difference, as do the pastoral acoustics of the closing 'Seagull' - reducing their rock 'n' roll to a strong, heavy crunch; compare 'Ready For Love,' a tune Ralphs brought over from Mott the Hoople, to the original to see how these quartet members keep their heads down as they do their business. All the hallmarks of a top-notch Analogue Productions reissue are here for your pleasure: mastered directly from the original master tape by Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound and cut at 45rpm.

Featuring reimagined tracks, interludes, and collaborations with artists like ERRA, Poppy, and HEALTH, this release ventures into bold new territory. 'C:\Projects\CJOST\BEATDEATH' sets an ominous tone, while 'V.A.N (feat. Poppy)' injects a dose of dark pop energy. The band explores their heavier side with 'Anything > Human (feat. ERRA)', and 'Nervous System (feat. iRis.EXE)' delves into electronic textures. Live versions of fan favourites and collaborations with the likes of Let's Eat Grandma add further depth to this expansive project. This is Bad Omens at their most ambitious and experimental, pushing the boundaries of their sound and captivating listeners with a truly immersive experience.

Review: Arther Baker's Dance Masters series continues, as the spotlight turns to another remix legend: one of the originators of the form, John Luongo. Regarded as one of the most influential DJs and mixers of his day, Luongo's many credits include remixes of Jackie Moore's 'This Time Baby', 'Vertigo / Relight My Fire' by Dan Hartman and Patti Labelle's 'Music Is My Way Of Life'. Luongo also went on to establish a production career in his own right, and his legacy is more than cemented here on this retrospective comp from Demon. This box set compiles his most striking tracks in a sixc LP compilation, as well as: a 16-page booklet; an in-depth essay from Alexis Petridis; a foreword by Arthur Baker and a rare photo album from Luongo's personal collection.

Review: Few electronic music producers can claim to have made quite as big an impact as Arthur Baker. During the 1980s the New Yorker was involved in creating (or mixing) a string of ground-breaking electro, freestyle and proto-house records, before becoming one of the most in-demand remixers on the planet. This vast box set, which includes six weighty slabs of vinyl and an informative insert, celebrates his legacy, offering up a mixture of pioneering productions (Afrika Bambaata and Soulsonic Force's 'Planet Rock', 'Walking On Sunshine' by Rockers Revenge, 'Confusion' by New Order), dancefloor anthems (Freez's 'I.O.U', his enormous rework of Fleetwood Mac's 'Big Love') and a string of essential but lesser-celebrated revisions - all presented in full-length, DJ-friendly form. In a word: essential.

Review: While Fritz Lang's Metropolis has enjoyed reams of revisionist soundtracks in the near-century since it was released, Robert Weine's The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari has remained a more cult concern of Weimar-era cinema. Karl Bartos, one of the early members of Kraftwerk, has indulged his passion for the art of this unique period between world wars, when technology and art was changing as rapidly as the world around them. Employing his considerable experience and well-appointed studio to the task of re-soundtracking, Bartos has created this vibrant new score for Weine's film, pressed up here on double vinyl with an accompanying 16-page booklet.

Review: Bassnectar goes deep into his own take on dubstep here with a new album The Golden Rule on Amorphous Music. It comes across a triple selection of coloured vinyl and wastes no time in getting heavy. 'The Golden Rule' rides on saw tooth synths and slapping synths with 'Unlocked' (feat Rye Rye & Jamalski) bringing some vocal energy and 'I Am Another Yourself' then gets all screwy on some mad bass mutations. Elsewhere Bassnectar collaborates with Rebelwise on the exotic sounds of 'Prayer Song' and Hyper is peak time and maximal jump up for rave times only.

Review: Here comes a special double vinyl box set edition of Beach House's latest album, Once Twice Melody, which was the first one the band themselves have ever produced in its entirety. It was recorded in three different locations - Pachyderm Studio in Cannon Falls, United Studio in Los Angeles, and Apple Orchard Studios in Baltimore. The band used a real and full live string ensemble for the first time, too, and David Campbell took care of arrangements. It is a double album that features 18 songs presented in four chapters that take in many different sound and structures centred around acoustic guitar, some around drums, and some around electronics.

Review: The Beatles: The Red Album: 1962-1966 encapsulates the iconic band's early years with a dynamic selection of tracks that have now all been remastered at half speed so they sound extra good. This compilation showcases the evolution of their sound from the exuberant energy of 'Love Me Do' to the groundbreaking creativity of 'A Hard Day's Night' and beyond. There are also timeless hits like 'Twist and Shout' and 'Yesterday,' which means this collection serves as a definitive journey through the first part of the The Beatles' legendary catalogue. Each song is a direct portal back to the 60s and to the vibrant era of Beatlemania at the peak of its powers.

Review: Today, pop stars use visual vehicles to further their reach, image and reputation every day, but back when A Hard Day's Night arrived, the idea of casting a band in a musical movie in which they played themselves, produced simultaneously with a studio album, was still more than novel. Largely unproven territory, the runaway success of this concept would go on to set a precedent. 36 hours in the lives of the group as they prepare for a TV performance, it not only breaks the theatrical fourth wall, it speaks to what was then an emerging appetite among fans to see more rounded, 3D renditions of their idols - now mainstreamed. Inspiring countless TV and cinema releases, from Ferry Cross The Mersey with Gerry and the Pacemakers, to the Monkees' series, A Hard Day's Night remains one of the best examples of the Beatles as revolutionary pop stars.

Review: Jeff Beck's Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group Live captures an explosive blend of jazz-rock fusion, performed by virtuosos at the peak of their powers. Released in 1977, this live album is a hidden gem from Beck's extensive career, filled with electrifying improvisation and remarkable chemistry between the musicians. The album, now available as a reissue from Mobile Fidelity, offers audiophile quality for the first time, sourced from the original master tapes. The clarity, detail, and dynamic range are astonishing, with Beck's guitar and Hammer's synthesisers engaging in a sonic conversation that feels almost visual. The performances here, particularly on tracks like 'Freeway Jam' and 'Darkness/Earth in Search of the Sun' showcase the band's synergy, pushing the boundaries of live recording. Beck's collaboration with Hammer shines throughout, resulting in a unique listening experience that remains as thrilling now as it was during the 1976-77 tour. Fans of musical innovation and superb sound quality won't want to miss this reissue.

Review: Beyonce has nerve shied away from being bold. Her Cowboy Carter album is a testament to that because who saw her fusing country and r&b? The unique album undoubtedly showcased her unparalleled versatility as it explored themes of love, resilience, and self-discovery against a backdrop of twangy guitars, soulful melodies, and powerful storytelling. Each track highlights Bey's vocal prowess and ability to transcend genres and styles from heartfelt ballads to upbeat anthems. The production blends organic and contemporary elements to make for a soundscape that's both nostalgic and innovative.

Review: Pioneering and mercurial DJ Erol Alkan and former Grid man Richard Norris have been spinning discs together for well over a decade, and remixing other outfits for almost as long, after bonding on a love of '60s psychedelia and classic acid house - yet this marks their bona fide debut as recording artists, and it's a glorious collision of both these passions - fuelled by crate-digging acumen and exemplary taste, and reflective of a magpie spirit that renders these third-eye-massaging gems more than mere psychedelic pastiche, rather a bold and joyful reinvention of lysergic glories of yore for a new aeon.

Review: Geir Jensson's debut album under the now familiar Biosphere alias, Microgravity, has long been considered something of a classic of the early '90s ambient boom. First released in 1991, it offered an icy but suitably atmospheric mix of chilly ambience, British-style "intelligent techno" and crystalline IDM. To celebrate 25 years since it was recorded (it was released a year later, in 1991), Geir Jensson has re-mastered it and, with the help of a successful crowd-funding campaign, pressed it onto a double CD minus the cross-fades and sound effects featured on the original pressing. Happily, Microgravity has lost none of its allure.

Review: Malignant is the latest work from Conjuring universe architect James Wan, who is well known for previous projects such as Aquaman and Fast and the Furious 7. It is a horror that takes the director back to his roots and is all the more impactful thank to the soundtrack composition of Joseph Bishara (Insidious, The Conjuring, Annabelle, and The Prodigy.) He eschews all the usual hour score musical tropes and instead brings his own avant-garde style and unique approach to instrumentation with strong dissonance and pulsing electronics making the eerie vibe.
