Review: French producer St Germain laid down a pretty untouchable deep house blueprint with his debut album Boulevard, then managed to go one better with Tourist a couple of years later. It had even more instrumental magic and jazz class to it, over the deep, driving yet cuddly house beats with plenty of spoken word tributes to house legends, hummable top lines and iconic flutes that have endured for more than 20 years since its release. The whole thing has been remastered and now arrives on translucent orange vinyl. A true classic that will never go out of fashion and works both at home and in the club equally well.

Review: Whereas the first volume of Italian house pioneer Don Carlos's retrospective of Italian house, Echoes of Italy, largely stuck to the picturesque but chunky and organ-rich "Italo-house" template, this second volume expressly focuses on "paradise house" - what Young Marco and Christiaan MacDonald dubbed "dream house" on their superb Welcome To Paradise series. Their cuspate millennial smash 'Cassius 1999' marked out well the fervour of the time, fizzing against our ears with its liminal "don't" vox, creep-in bass, brushup rides and stinger Morricone chords, which all build to a laggard but crucial French house wahher. Review: Defected's House Masters series tribute to Frankie Knuckles is being released as two double LPs, but it could have easily been four or five, such is the quality of the tracks and remixes that the 'Godfather of House' produced during his lifetime. Naturally this second and final part is full to bursting with colourful, tactile and wonderfully saucer-eyed classics - many familiar, some slightly less so - which deserve a place in your collection. Picking highlights is naturally tough, but for proof of Knuckles' unassailable musical majesty and dancefloor magic it's hard to beat the Sound Factory mix of 'The Whistle Song', the low-tempo house bliss of his remix of Inner City's 'Whatcha Do With My Lovin', the Satoshi Tomiie/Robert Owens hook-up 'Tears' and his incredible revision of Electribe 101's 'Talking With Myself'.

Review: The first volume of this collection of warm and breezy deep house came back in 2019. It was a fine one with a focus on tunes between 1991 and 1993 whereas this one is more broad in scope. It is of course a label run by Nick V's and takes its name from his Mona nights, a series of Parisian parties specialising in the deeper end of the house scale. These tunes come from lesser-known names but arrest who are all well versed in the classic sound. The grooves are cuddly warm, musical in their arrangement and designed for cosy underground spaces and backrooms where close bonds can be made on the dancefloor.

Review: Legendary Chicago imprint TRAX Records continues to celebrate its 40th birthday, and with it four decades since the earliest house records appeared in Windy City record stores. On this second volume in their celebratory EP series, curator Jorge showcases some of his favourite cuts from the label vaults. First up on side A is Stylophonic's 'Jack It Up', a fine combination of thickset bottom-end and expansive piano solos. It's followed by a stone-cold Windy City classic - Armando's tough 1992 acid-and-organs workout, 'Love In Heart' (originally credited to New World Order, fact fans). Over on the reverse, we're treated to the hands-in-the-air piano house nostalgia of Mark Row and Jame Starck's 'Free Your Mind' and Paul Johnson's superb 2002 disco-house roller, 'Follow This Beat'.

Review: In the mid-90s, Lee Rodriguez, known as Mr. Onester, produced some of New York's most iconic, gritty house tracks. Collaborating closely with Steven John Craden, Rodriguez's music embodied a raw, Afro-Latine essence that reflected the culture and vibrancy of working-class New York, yet managed to strike chords far beyond. His sound, from hypnotic organ basslines to jazzy synths, stood out amid the polished vocals and pop appeal dominating dance floors at the time. The duo's prolific output spanned numerous aliases, genres and labels, carving a unique space in house music's golden era. After the release of his masterpiece, however, Rodriguez vanished, leaving only his legacy and a tantalizing mystery behind. Now reissued once again to meet the demand, this album continues to get noticed and find itself into the hearts of all who hear it.
