Review: Ravi Shankar is often cited as one of the most famous and influential sitar players in the world and none of his albums do quite as much justice to that claim than Shankar Family & Friends, first released in 1974. Unlike many of his former albums, this LP places a front-and-centre focus on Shankar's family members, with whom he collaborates throughout the album. Though, that's not to say it doesn't also come with commercial draws - indeed, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston and Tom Scott also make cameo appearances. For all its humble harkenings-back to familial source, Shankar does not hesitate to fuse his own ancestral Indian classical music with the Western pop and jazz elements of his friends. The likes of 'I Am Missing You' and 'Jaya Jagadish Hare' are nonetheless utter dreamscapes, and thanks to this reissue via the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab series, this version comes as the highest-quality version of the record yet.

Review: BMX Bandits' latest album, Dreamers On The Run, stands as their most ambitious yet, dedicated to the outsiders of the world. Founded in 1985 by Duglas T Stewart and Sean Dickson, the band's ever-evolving lineup has included luminaries from various indie acts. Mastered by Hifi Sean, and featuring guest appearances from Jowe Head and Calvin Johnson, the album delves into the realms of dreams and music amid the challenges of reality. Drawing inspiration from Womack and Womack, Motown, and Todd Rundgren, the album boasts soul-tinged pop arrangements and captivating guitar solos. 'The Things You Threw Away showcases collaboration with New York's Jay Jay Lozano, infusing classic American musical and romantic song influences. With its rich musical tapestry and poignant themes, Dreamers On The Run is a gem in their stellar discography.

Review: Recorded and released in The Netherlands by Gerry Teekens for his Criss Cross label in 1985, Chet's Choice marked one of the best studio albums from Chet Baker's final years. He would die in The Netherlands after falling from the window of his hotel room in Amsterdam on May 13, 1988. Chet's Choice presents Baker, beautifully captured in stereo, singing and playing the trumpet in an intimate trio format with guitarist Philip Catherine (born in England but raised in Belgium, Chet frequently worked with him from 1983 to 1988) and Belgian bassist Jean-Louis Rassinfosse on most of the tracks (three tunes were taped during a second session with Dutch bassist Hein van de Geijn). This expanded edition presents the full seven tunes from the original album plus three songs that only previously appeared on the CD edition of Chet's Choice, as well as five amazing never before heard alternate takes, which add nearly 40 minutes of unreleased music to Chet Baker's superb catalogue.

Review: Emerald City Nights: Live at the Penthouse (1966-1968) is the third release of previously unissued recordings of the iconic pianist Ahmad Jamal captured live at the hallowed Penthouse jazz club in Seattle, WA, between 1966-1968, with bassist Jamil Nasser and drummer Frank Gant. Produced for release by "Jazz Detective" Zev Feldman, and supervised by Jamal himself, these recordings were transferred from the original tape reels and mastered for vinyl by the legendary Bernie Grundman. This deluxe 180-gram 2xLP gatefold set includes an extensive booklet with rare photos by Don Bronstein, Chuck Stewart, and others; essays by producer Zev Feldman, journalist Eugene Holley, Jr., radio DJ and original recording engineer Jim Wilke, son of the Penthouse owner, Charlie Puzzo Jr., and Joe Alterman; and interviews with pianists Les McCann, Monty Alexander and Emmet Cohen.

Review: Released on Shabaka Hutchings' Native Rebel Recordings, like the sky i've been too quiet is a full-length from vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ganavya. A former collaborator of Wayne Shorter, here she enlists help from the likes of Kofi Flexxx, Carlos NiNo and Floating Points to create the perfect backdrop for her nebulous vocals, one that will find favour with fans of spiritual jazz. This, however, is nothing like your standard standard fare; this album's impeccable electronic embellishments and sublimely sensitive ear for recording and timbre make it unlike anything we've ever heard in the spiritual jazz or electronica traditions.

Review: Ranked at number 289 in Rock Hard magazine's coffee table essential The 500 Greatest Rock & Metal Albums of All Time, 1981's Hit & Run would serve as the critically acclaimed sophomore effort from the longest running all-female hard rock act of all time; Girlschool. Following on from 1980's debut LP Demolition, their frenetic concoction of punk-tinged metallic mayhem would ultimately be perfected on this preceding effort, forever cementing the group as one of the pioneering acts of the NWBHM movement, while the album also served as the highest charting release of their four-decade spanning career, reaching number five in the UK Albums Chart.

Review: Modern Finnish doom metal legends Reverend Bizarre only released three full-lengths during their tenure which ran for just over a decade from 1995-2007, and how they were full to the brim, often nearly exceeding the runtime of a CD. Following on from 2002's epic debut In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend (yes, that is a King Crimson reference), 2005's II: Crush The Insects boasted a more upbeat approach to their fuzzed-out, psych-tinged doomgazing machinations, with original copies of the album even bearing a sticker that referred to the trio as "The Biggest Sell-Out in True Doom". Known for having its 21 minute lead single 'Slave of Satan' cut down to 13 minutes in order to fit on the LP, this marks one of the rare instances where a band's single version exceeds the length of their album version. Coming courtesy of leading metal label Svart, this translucent red 2xLP reissue offers doomers, new and old, the chance to plumb the depths of one of the most quintessential doom acts to ever rear their sludgy head.

Review: Here is a great example at the power of the reissue market. A series of live recordings were released on CD only starting in 1994 from the band's tape archivist Dick Latvala. When the vinyl boom kicked back into heavy gear with reissues in 2012, some of these Grateful Dead were brought to vinyl for the first time. Like many things with the band, their fans are devoted as much as any in music history. Then you have another variable that adds to the demand: A band known for their live performances that are individually different in many ways over the years. Thus, prices went out of control for these costing as much as a Ferrari monthly payment. Thankfully, these are starting to get a another pressing. Volume two is highly regarded because of the live jam version of Dark Star. An ideal track to show the amazing live ability of the band. This version comes in double vinyl form with a very nice gatefold.

Review: After a brief production delay, this long-awaited and highly in-demand vinyl pressing is finally ready. 'Scott Pilgrim Takes Off' was a huge hit when it released on Netflix last year, and this gatefold includes the amount of care and goodies you would expect - prints, beautiful art on the inner sleeves and two different coloured discs alongside a mini-comic. The California electro-rock output's hallmarks are everpresent, from the tongue-cheek whit of the vinyl-exclusive extended version of 'Techno Syndrome' (a Mortal Kombat theme sample) to the masterful chiptune bangers and rocking guitars. It's well worth picking this up before it inevitably sells out.

Review: Pressed on vinyl for the first time, the in-universe radio stations of Cyberpunk 2077 have some pretty high-profile artists on call; Established stars like Grimes and HEALTH play alongside rising talents like RBMA alumni Nina Kraviz and Chelmsford's Rat Boy. The inevitable highlight for many will be 'I Really Want to Stay at Your House' by Rose Walton and Hallie Coggins, an emotional electro-indie blend about a person scorned, lamenting a doomed relationship. The track was a smash success from the accompanying animated series 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' and quickly became the most streamed track from the OST by a gigantic margin. Sporting the logos of various in-game radio stations and housing a bright yellow disc, let's call it cyberpunk yellow, this is perfect for any Cyberpunk 2077 fan's collection.

Review: Six or so months after it was initially released and soon sold out, Molekul is back with a reissue of their Stuck In The Loop compilation. It collects together nine different artists who serve up their own singular takes on techno. First out of the blocks is BAUGRUPPE90 with the arresting hardness of 'Torx' while Kenji Hina's 'Machete' doesn't let up and brings more high inapt and cantering hard techno funk. Elsewhere there are high speed percussive loops from Cult, tight and kinetic drum programming from DJ Sun and last of all Dylan Fogarty's 'Purification' keeps the high energy alive with warm, bumping drums and bass and back-lit celestial pads.

As Convextion, he's mastered the art of sonic futurism charged with palpable human heart, eliciting the deepest emotional impact from his synths and strapping them to elegant, infectious electro and techno rhythms. That modus operandi continues beautifully on this new transmission for A.r.t.l.e.s.s., replete with vintage sci-fi artwork and four extended cuts stretched out over a side of vinyl each. All the better to sink into, not least on the subtly grooving, Plastikman-esquedepth charge 'Miranda'.

Review: Efficient Space continue their esteemed compilations of varying focus and theme. Their latest, Someone Like Me, is less interested in nostalgia for a certain time, propinquity, or contemporaneity (all pitfalls into which most other compilation curators fall prey) and instead finds enjoyment in the juxtaposing of all manner of musicians and songs reflecting a certain style, from the Pacific Northwestern USA to the UK, and whose main approach to music-making was hobbyism. "Folk" is the operative word here, though whether it's one we should utter confidently isn't so certain, as the twists and turns this compilation takes - through the lonesome falsettos of Lynne Ann Kingan, the detuned, drum-machinic drones of Charlie Webster, and the intermittent, reverberative outbursts of Jim Kennedy - capture something far more than just a transmissible, oral ceremonial form.

Review: Following on from 2021's excellent Too Mean To Die, German proto-speed/thrash metal pioneers Accept return with their highly anticipated 17th full-length Humanoid. Marking their sixth overall LP with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo handling vocal duties (who has been with the group since their third reunion in 2009), the material here espouses genuine concerns over the increase of AI in modern technology and its careless displacement of artists from varying fields. Emboldened by frenetic, anthemic riffage and soaring melodious hooks, Accept are back to remind all of their vital influence and put every band who've come since back in their quiet little place atop the band's giant shoulders.

Review: Iron Monkey are loved by fans for pulling no punches and now the popular UK metal outfit is back with a much anticipated new album that delivers their sound with full and unrelenting force. Spleen and Goad comes with a suitably dark cover on aqua blue vinyl and features some of the group's most gritty work in their 25 year career, which means they will retain their titles as kings of the "doom sludge vanguard." All of the nice cuts are powerhouses with mad heavy riffs on the opener 'Concrete Shock' signalling what to come and there is no let up from there with fuzzed out guitars, pounding drums and gutters snarls and vocal barks.

Review: Vampisoul have always been loyal purveyors of Latin cumbia music, but no release so far has documented their love for the genre with quite so much commitment and dedication as their latest, Cumbia Cumbia Cumbia! This selection of 24 Colombian cumbia bangers is made up entirely of deep hauls salvaged from the deep-sea doomsday vault that is Discos Fuentes, the best remembered label of the golden age of the genre. Highlights from Combo Sampuesano, Lucho Campillo, Los Candelosos and Rodolfo Aicardi Y Su Tipica Ra7 make for a thoroughgoing, raw OG's cumbia favourite, with all tracks naturally carrying that original Fuentes flair and authenticity that could have only come from the genre's '60s and '70s heyday.

Review: Niningashi's elusive 1974 debut Heavy Way emerged as a Japanese acid folk treasure that showcased Kazuhisa Okubo's musical prowess amidst his pharmaceutical studies. This album marked a pivotal moment in Okubo's life and Japanese society, blending pastoral nostalgia with urban allure. Immersed in Tokyo's acid folk scene, Okubo and his band craft a unique sound across nine tracks, from the Neil Young-esque 'Ameagari' to the whimsical 'Semai Boku No Heyade.' Despite subsequent success with bands like Neko and Kaze, Heavy Way remains shrouded in mystery, its soft allure drawing a dedicated online following. It has in part previously featured in Time Capsule's Nippon Acid Folk collection and is a prized relic of Japan's musical past that now gets a full reissue.

Through meticulous attention to detail, Dettinger crafts a therapeutic soundscape that encourages mindfulness and contemplation. The album's modest rhythms provide a gentle push forward while allowing space for introspection. With echoes of classic ambient techno and dub, Intershop achieves a rare balance between background and foreground, offering a tranquil yet engaging musical backdrop. Review: Dettinger's Oasis, originally released in 2000, is an ethereal symphony of ambient textures and minimal techno. Its unique blend of orchestral elements, effects, and occasional beats creates a captivating and strangely peaceful sonic landscape. Each track offers a hypnotic journey. 'Oasis #2' pulsates with a gentle rhythm, while 'Oasis #3' transforms Balearic melodies into grainy memories. 'Oasis #4' showcases Dettinger's experimental side, merging techno with abstract soundscapes, while 'Oasis 6' infuses dub influences, adding a touch of warmth and groove. The album's appeal lies in his ability to fuse the organic and the electronic. Orchestral swells soar above pulsating synths, creating a sense of drama and allure. The result is a sonic oasis that transports listeners to a realm of serenity and wonder. Fans of Wolfgang's Voigt's Gas project or labels like Mille Plateaux, Staubold, RasterNoton and others may already know this masterpiece, but if you don't, then do not miss this.

Review: Child's album Soul Murder is a strong vintage blend of blues and hard rock, displaying the band's raw emotion and powerful musicality. With subtle nods to Black Sabbath and 60s psychedelia, the album delivers a unique sound that resonates deeply with listeners. Tracks like 'Free and Humble' and 'Trouble With a Capital 'T'' exude moody blues vibes, with Mathias Northway's exceptional vocals leading the way. The rhythm section, comprised of Michael Lowe on drums and Rhys Kelly on bass, provides a solid foundation for Northway's exquisite guitar work. Standout tracks like 'Standing On My Tail' and 'Feels Like Hell' reveal the band's versatility, incorporating soulful elements and edgy bass lines to create dynamic compositions. 'Moment In Time' delivers both anger and melancholy in equal measure. Overall, Soul Murder is a very strong album for fans of blues, hard rock and honest songwriting, due mainly to Child's impeccable musicianship and emotive performances.

Review: Sega Bodega's latest record Dennis hears the producer go full-throttle weirdo future bass and ghostly dream pop, signaling the producer's increasing ability to experiment after the founding of his own label Ambient Tweets. The Galway-born artist's third full-length record is said to explore the state between sleep and consciousness. Of course, wordsmiths know that hypnagogia (and/or hypnopompic) are the operative terms here, depending on the time of day - though this record can't be pegged as anything close to a 'hypnagogic pop' record. Battling the existential anxieties of AI technology and the possibility that we already exist in a simulated world, Dennis formally captures the feeling of the above through shattered-glass-refracted, stuttered, angelic vocal chopups; genreless hypeup electronics; and even breathy ultrafolk ballads ('Set Me Free, I'm An Animal').

Review: Bill Laurance's Bloom marks a grand transition from intimate duo collaborations to a widescreen orchestral spectacle. Teaming up with Manchester's Untold Orchestra, Laurance delivers a riveting fusion of classical sensibilities, jazz improvisation, and pop grooves. The eponymous opener features dark string chords expanding into a rhythmic journey with piano melodies and hypnotic improvisation. Inspired by his child's imaginative capacity, Laurance crafts a sonic landscape that evokes Baroque, Vivaldi, and modern influences, all while maintaining a sense of wonder and exploration. The Untold Orchestra shines in their tightness and sensitivity, elevating Laurance's compositions to cinematic heights. Review: Kevin Pearce's Science Fiction Ballads For The Lost Generation emerges as a riveting exploration of sonic storytelling and atmospheric nostalgia. Inspired by Vangelis' evocative 'Blade Runner' soundtrack, Pearce conceived the album as a cinematic journey, crafting a collection of songs that embody a sense of mystery and introspection. Initially recorded as a personal experiment, the album remained hidden for years until Pearce rediscovered it by chance. With its unearthed quality, Science Fiction Ballads exudes a timeless allure, reminiscent of audio fossils waiting to be discovered. Review: Wanderwelle is the Amsterdam-based ambient duo of Phil van Dulm & Alexander Bartels, who mint their Maalstrom label with Wat Gebeurde Er Met Sergeant Massuro?, a concept album based around Harry Mulisch's 1957 story of the same name (What Happened To Seagent Massuro?). The story weaves anti-colonial concepts with mythical realist elements, and is sonically brought to life here through atmospheric electronics and prepared instruments. A moody, resonant and ultimately deep groundswell of an album, one that compels the listener to venture ever further into the a spine-tingling heart of darkness.

Review: Tinted Windows is the wondrously, almost hilariously cast supergroup comprising guitarist James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins fame, Taylor Hanson of Hanson, bassist Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne, and Cheap Trick's Bun E. Carlos. Brace yourself for a reminder of this ingenious grouping this 2024: the debut self-titled album was first released in 2009 and though it intended to synergise each founding members' successes as part of their earlier projects, also did fantastically well at portraying a contemporary take on the 70s and 80s pop rock quintessence. Lead singles 'Nothing To Me' are instantly reminiscent of Ferris Bueller in the drop-top, though all come dashed, even sprinkled, with a hint of 90s pubic power punk a-la 'Stacy's Mom', as we should expect from a Fountains Of Wayne adjacent.

Review: Scaling Triangles is a curious early 80s DIY oddity, serving up a three-way split between experimental synth-punk outfit Petticoats, the equally motorik coldwave post-punk of Sub Verse, and the Tangerine Dream indebted synth-prog of Sole Sister. All female groups, all overlooked and largely forgotten to time, this 1981 gem captures the sonic and creative expansion that saw the parameters of genres being torn down almost as quickly as they were being established during those formative years; providing a uniquely raw, underground, tangible piece of electronic/post-punk fusion and fearlessness.

Review: The latest full-length LP from Aural Imbalance continues serenely on the heels of an already well-travelled career. Now seeming to avow the often almost eternal sounding nature of breaks and drum & bass, a title like Infinity Spectrum implies that this is a career that could happily go on forever, were we not mere mortals. As ever, the album is interstellar in theme, each track doubling up in function as names that could also easily denote distant star systems or galaxies; 'Aurealis' and 'Alpha' are standout cuts in this regard, pitting rolling pitched 808s, rattling arps, and nebular pads together, behooving the ever-central breakbeat that sets us off on a journey to find some glistening lost alien artifact. Though there is a destination, it really is about the journey; by the time we reach the C-side, 'Slow Motion' ups the sonic sulphur content with a detour through an airier, major-keyed gas-planetary iceworld, while wondrous scoped-out rollage judderer 'Apparation' proves that even space provides its own mirages, its own fata morgana.

With their second LP, they amplify their fuzzy blues sound, infusing it with a stimulating drive and hypnotic allure. Tracks like 'Nailed to the Ceiling' and 'Blue Side of the Collar' exude chill yet sludgy nostalgia, while 'Dirty Woman' and 'The Man' take seductive, gospel-infused approaches, reminiscent of Robert Johnson. Child's wisdom in crafting psychedelic acid blues music sets them apart, marking a true revival of the genre. Review: Jeff Mills throws a spaghettifying curveball with latest EP 'The Trip'. Themed after the terrifying notion of entering a black hole, and likening this to the vicarious yet no less enjoyable illusions of grandeur that might go hand in hand with attending a Millsart rave, 'The Trip' has been routinely billed as "the world's first cosmic opera" (in its performance incarnation), and attempts to sonically answer the question as to what exactly happens when we cross that fateful event horizon, in ambitious, live-jam-born-recorded form. Via eight cosmic suites of terrifying techno wizardry (we'd expect nothing less from the Belleville 'blazer), Jeff Mills brings his originally live, light-eating vision to vinyl, nailing the cosmick perceptual horror of being "sucked in" through dust-bitten repetitions, descending mind-melts and dissociative-detuned fugues - the latter is most intriguing; 'When Time Stops' is the track of choice for exploring Mills' least repetitious and most improvisatory tendencies.

Review: A decade ago, Leon Vynehall popped up on Martyn's 3024 label with Music For The Uninvited, a critically acclaimed debut album inspired by 'the formative cassette mixtapes' of his youth. This anniversary edition, which boasts reworked artwork and freshly re-mastered sounds, proves that the album has lost none of its allure. Musically, it offers a largely bass-heavy blend of deep house, Afro-house and techno rhythms, futuristic electronic instrumentation, immersive pads, sinewy strings and emotional resonance by the bucketload. This time round, we also get two bonus cuts, both of which were recorded during the same period in 2013: the Theo Parrish-esque excellence of 'Peaces' and the deep, jazzy and sample-rich broken house lusciousness of 'Blue'.

Review: The Alternative Germ-Free Adolescents offers up a compilation of early demos and alternative studio takes of tracks from the seminal 1978 debut LP from London new wave punk heroes X Ray Spex. Featuring studio recordings from between 1977 to 1978, as half of the original album's cuts came from early singles and B-sides to begin with, the collection also comes stacked with soundboard lifted live performances from The Roxy in Los Angeles, while closer to home the Peel Sessions capture endlessly enigmatic frontwoman Poly Styrene at the dawn of her frenetic prowess; rawer, more energetic and infectious than any mere words can do justice.

Review: From Then 'Til Now marks Roots Architects' debut full-length album, a monumental project bringing together over 50 of Jamaica's most iconic session musicians. Spanning from the birth of reggae in the late 1960s to the present day, the album is a celebration of the unsung heroes of reggae music: the rhythm builders or Roots Architects. Conceived by Swiss keyboardist and producer Mathias Liengme, the album is the culmination of years of dedication to honoring Jamaica's musical legacy. Liengme's journey began in 2013 with "The Inspirators" project, leading to his immersion in Kingston's studio scene and the eventual formation of Roots Architects. Recorded in Kingston studios over February and March 2017, the album features a stellar lineup of veteran musicians aged 60 to 85, including legends like Robbie Lyn, Fil Callender, and Dalton Browne. Together, these Roots Architects revive the spirit of reggae, creating nine instrumental tracks that pay homage to their enduring legacy and timeless artistry.

Review: Freddie McKay's Creation album, produced by Ossie Hibbert, presents a masterful fusion of original compositions and inspired covers, showcasing McKay's talent alongside reggae legends like Burning Spear and Dennis Brown. Hibbert's production expertise shines through, creating a seamless blend of classic reggae sound with subtle dub elements. The album's strength lies in its ability to breathe new life into familiar classics while maintaining the integrity of the originals. McKay's performances exude authenticity and passion, supported by skilled musicians who excel in the 'rockers' style of the seventies.

Review: Reggie Dokes, the legendary deep house and techno DJ/producer from Atlanta, Georgia, has finally released his highly expected Vault Volume 1. Originally released in 2005 as a CDR-only, this extended pressing allows fans to experience the magic of Dokes' music on a whole new level. With its captivating blend of jazz, techno, and house, the album takes listeners on a sonic journey through Dokes' unique musical landscape. 'My Peeps On 6' sets the tone with its smooth, deep house vibes, while 'Make Believe' transports listeners to a spacey, funk-infused post-apocalyptic realm. The beautiful 'Love Reigns' provides a moment of respite with its gentle bell chimes and bedtime melody, before 'D-Funk' drops a heavy bass kick and dystopian atmosphere. The album closes with the aptly named 'Freakazoid,' an explosive track that leaves listeners begging for more. Dokes' expertise in crafting atmospheric and emotive soundscapes is clear throughout the album. His ability to fuse elements of jazz, techno, and house creates a unique and immersive experience that will appeal to fans of all genres.

Review: Five years after their debut full length and two years after the 'Monolith of Corrosion' EP, Nightmarer are finally back with a new album. Inarguably the band's most diverse work to date, 'Deformity Adrift' ventures far beyond the conventions of the already unconventional genre of dissonant death metal, without surrendering an ounce of viciousness. A 32-minute sonic behemoth, the record is at once confounding and ravaging. Strong nuances of industrial and doom metal can be heard throughout as the record's nine tracks conclude fittingly with a suffocating wall of sound that leaves its listeners bruised, battered and shaken.

Review: Wackies Rhythm Force was the Wackie's label's session band and they first put out this album, The Dub Generals, in 1998. It is now reissued on the original label but as a self-titled The Dub Generals LP. It still packs the same essential and pure dub punch that it always did and for that reason, it's a sought-after original that costs a few quid if and when you manage to find one. The label was headed up by dub producer Lloyd "Bullwackie" Barnes who maintained a busy studio in the Bronx and worked with several different key players such as Horace Andy. The label was also a key inspiration for the legendary Berlin dub techno dons Basic Channel.

Review: Crumb's latest album, Amama, continues to enchant listeners with their signature blend of psych-rock, jazz and indie pop and, with 12 tracks, it's their most expansive offering yet. The three singles released ahead of the album promise a seamless continuation of Crumb's dreamy atmosphere and intricate melodies. Rather than a departure, these singles serve as a comforting reminder of the genres they've mastered, effortlessly combining smooth psych-jazz with bedroom and dream-pop elements. Lila Ramani's ethereal vocals, accompanied by Brian Aronow's synth wizardry, Jesse Brotter's solid basslines, and Jonathan Gilad's precise drumming, create a captivating sonic journey. With Amama, Crumb reaffirms their position as innovators in the indie music scene, delivering an album that is both familiar and refreshingly new.

Review: Tresor joins forces with Carhartt - a company that can trace its roots back to the Motor City - to celebrate techno's two premier cities, Detroit and Berlin. The formula is devilishly simple: brand new cuts from artists based in one of the two cities, with stone-cold legends being joined by rising stars. There are headline-grabbing contributions from Juan Atkins as Model 500 (the warped, alien, dub-flecked and Cybotron-esque electrofunk of 'I.D.L.E') and DJ Stingray 313 (the industrial electro clank of 'Dynamic Instability'), plus fine contributions from JakoJako (the early morning techno hypnotism of 'Metal Goat'), AMX (the wonderfully hazy, deep and dubbed-out electro shuffle of 'Your Body') and Erik Jabari (the mind-mangling modular madness of 'Screamore').

Review: The enigmatic release from Nilton Castro offers a fantastic journey into Afro-Brazilian rhythms and expressive musical landscapes. Recorded possibly in the 70s and released in the early 90s, its origins remain shrouded in mystery, adding to its allure. Originally crafted to accompany contemporary dance classes, the album showcases Castro's percussion expertise, enhanced by moments of choir, flute, and keys/metallophone. The standout track, 'Ondes (Les Vagues),' has intrigued collectors for years with its harmonious crescendos and subtle percussion, creating an immersive sonic experience. Remastered and reissued with its original artwork, the album embodies unadulterated musical expression, reflecting Castro's artistic vision and timeless charm. Listening to this release is akin to embarking on a journey of blissful discovery, where each track unveils layers of intricate rhythms and ethereal beauty.
