Review: Industrial noise jazz of the highest order comes reissued by Black Editions, who cast their sights back on the late 1960s, a lesser-known golden era for unbounded experimentation in the genre. Japanese stalwart and bandleading visionary Masayuki Takayanagi was at this time in the twilight years of his life, but that hardly stopped him from scouring new musical frontiers; he formed New Direction as a means to freely upend jazz, in a way that mirrored the rapid societal changes of post-occupation Japan. It can be used as a four-channel mixer or as two separate two-channel mixers, depending on the connection.

If a cable is connected to the Master output but not to the 1+2 output, all channels will be summed at the Master output. If both the Master and 1+2 outputs are connected, the Master will output the mix of channels 3 and 4, while the 1+2 output will provide the mix of channels 1 and 2.

Each pair of channels has an LED indicator that shows the presence of a signal.

Notes: The Tweakers Plus is a slim companion module that allows fine tuning your modulations.

Two channels offer control over gain and offset. A three-position switch allows muting the channel and inverting the modulation polarity without impacting the offset.

A pair of LEDs tell the amplitude and polarity of the output signal; with audio signals, both LEDs light up together!

Normalizing of the inputs avoids using a multiple when a signal is dispatched to two targets.

Normalizing of the outputs offers an extra mixer, summing the two channels, very handy as an audio mixer too.

The Tweakers Plus is a perfect companion for modules whose modulation inputs lack such amenities.

Activating predefined settings at the flick of a switch is paramount for live situations. Being able to prepare two sets of carefully adjusted settings for a given signal is even more useful.

Notes: With the ADDAC304 Manual Gates, you'll be getting 8 manual gates (0 +5v) in a nifty package - a perfect way to perform on and control your modular system.

The ADDAC304 comes with an interesting twist: 4 out of the 8 available gates can act as momentary switches, outputting the signals in their respective inputs when each gate's button is pressed.

Review: From Tanworth-in-Arden to Wimpole Street and the Sound Techniques studio, Nick Drake's journey to his debut full-length is laid bare in this meticulous, four-disc archival set, authorised by the Drake Estate and mastered by original engineer John Wood. Originally released on Island Records in 1969, the album's making is told across more than 30 previously unheard outtakes, Cambridge demos and alternate takesitracing the evolution of songs like 'Day Is Done', 'Saturday Sun' and the devastating 'River Man' from fragile sketches to finished elegies. Disc one's "Beverley Martyn demo" reveals a more tentative, companionable Drake, while the Cambridge reel captures a private world of haunting, early ideas ('Made to Love Magic', 'My Love Left With The Rain'). Review: American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen is about as big a music star as there could possible be.
