Get Behind Me Satan (20th Anniversary Edition)
Cat: 810074 42449. Rel: 27 Jun 25

Indie/Alternative
Review: With the inductive Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame branding iron still hot, we're reminded of the pivotal pact described in The White Stripes' fifth album Get Behind Me Satan . Originally dropping in 2005, it was recorded in the stairwell of Jack White's Detroit home, and marked a sharp shift from their raw guitar-driven roots toward an increasingly eclectic sound. Piano, marimba, timpani and mandolin weave through 'Blue Orchid', 'My Doorbell' and 'The Denial Twist,' helping it snag the Grammy for Best Alternative Album and sell close to a million copies stateside. Critics at the time noted its bold departure into "Fifties exotica", a brave move that could've either made or broke chart promises. This record comes on striking red smoke and clear red/black discs, following the expanded Get Behind Me Satan XX edition with demos and alternate takes.

Tracks II: The Lost Albums

Review: Springsteen's place in music history is undeniable i a legendary figure whose songwriting has captured the heart, hope and heartbreak of American life for over five decades. With Tracks II: The Lost Albums, Springsteen opens the vault once again, offering fans an extraordinary glimpse into seven unreleased albums (80 tracks in total) spanning from the mid-70s to the 2000s. Rather than a simple outtakes collection, Tracks II feels like discovering entire new chapters of the Springsteen story. Across the compilation, you hear an artist constantly evolving i from the dusty romanticism of The Ties That Bind sessions to the raw urgency of the Born in the U.S.A. era demos. Songs like 'American Beauty' and 'Party Lights' showcase Springsteen's knack for creating melodies that feel instantly familiar yet deeply personal. The variety across the nine albums is striking. There are intimate acoustic sketches, full-throttle E Street Band anthems and brooding late-night confessionals. The production quality is strong throughout, preserving the raw spirit of the recordings while giving them a polished shine. Springsteen's voice i at turns weathered, fiery, tender i remains the heart of the collection. Lyrically, the themes of working-class dreams, lost love, redemption and perseverance remain constants, binding this sprawling set together. Tracks II isn't just for diehards; it's an example to Springsteen's restless creativity and enduring spirit. A gift to fans and a reminder of why his music remains timeless.

Review: A pivotal 2015 release from US rap giant Tyler The Creator reissued, a record that marked a sharp pivot from early shock tactics into more playful, genre-blurring territory. It's a maximalist blend of funk-rock, jazz, rap and r&b that veers deliberately between extremes i with tracks like 'Deathcamp' and 'Pilot' blasting out with distorted aggression, while 'Find Your Wings' and 'Fucking Young / Perfect' lean into soft textures and melodic optimism. 'Smuckers' brings heavyweight verses from Kanye West and Lil Wayne, all stitched together by thick synths and vintage soul drums, while Schoolboy Q trades bars with Tyler over video game bleeps on 'The Brown Stains Of Darkeese Latifah Part 6-12 (Remix)'. Elsewhere, '2Seater/Hair Blows' and 'Keep Da O's' show his growing confidence with harmony and arrangement, drawing as much from 70s soft rock as rap. It's a dense and restless listen, full of sudden detours, beat switch-ups and raw mixes, but that instability feels deliberate i a refusal to settle. As a body of work, it points clearly toward what would follow in later albums, but still stands on its own as a messy, colourful and often brilliant left turn.

Review: This new collection from New Jersey's Bruce Springsteen gathers 20 previously unreleased tracks, many taken from full albums that never saw the light of day i until now. Spanning 35 years of creative offshoots, false starts and private experiments, it's a rare insight into the quieter corners of one of America's most mythic songwriters. But this isn't just offcut archaeology; it's a powerful standalone listen. From the dusty pulse of the 'LA Garage Sessions '83' to the synthetic haze of the 'Streets of Philadelphia Sessions', these recordings trace Springsteen's musical drift between lo-fi intimacy, widescreen rock and unexpected stylistic detours. 'Somewhere North of Nashville' aches with country soul, pedal steel drifting like cigarette smoke. 'Inyo' is a richly detailed border tale, while 'Twilight Hours' goes full orchestral noir i all shadows and moonlight. 'Perfect World' brings it back to E Street territory, complete with rousing guitars and that familiar sense of hope under pressure. There's a looseness here that feels newly revealing, and the warmth of Springsteen's personal introduction only adds to its charm. It's not a victory lap i more a letter from the vaults, full of missed chances and alternate realities. A real gift for fans.

Review: Bruce Springsteen has been sitting on these recordings for yearsiwhole records, not sketchesisome finished, some forgotten. Now they finally surface, spanning 1983 to 2018, and offer a different kind of self-portrait: one less polished and more exploratory. The earliest material finds him navigating a path between the haunted quiet of 'Nebraska' and the radio gloss of 'Born in the USA'. Later sessions toy with drum loops, synth beds and orchestral swells. One batch plays like the soundtrack to a film that never existed; another leans into pedal steel and modest country sketches. There are borderland narratives, noir-ish ballads, E Street-style anthems. That New Jersey gritithat plainspoken clarity he's carried since the boardwalk daysiruns through even the softest tracks. He says he made this music to please himself and close friends, and you hear that freedom in its variety: some songs feel raw and just-found, others fully formed. There's no tidy arc, but that's part of its charm. Across seven discs and 82 songs, what emerges isn't a legacy project but something quieter: a window into how a working musician keeps working. You don't come away with answersionly a better sense of how far Springsteen will follow a song just to see where it leads.

The synth-pop duo's breakthrough was originally released in 2010 and is revisited in full here with all the hits, featuring such as 'Better Than Love,' 'Wonderful Life' and 'Stay.' This debut vinyl pressing adds further value with a side of deluxe edition highlights including the festive fan favourite 'All I Want For Christmas Is New Year's Day' and Arthur Baker's remix of 'Wonderful Life.' Review: Pink Elephant is Arcade Fire's first album since 2022's We, and it serves as a compact and cathartic return that is defined by its sense of reflection and emotional recalibration. It has been co-produced by Daniel Lanois and leans into intimate textures and moving drums with standout tracks like 'Year of the Snake' and 'Ride or Die', evoking both earnest self-examination and communal uplift. Elsewhere, there is the hypnotic 'Circle of Trust' and haunting title track, which showcase the band's ability to mix grandeur with vulnerability and means that this is a work that again cements Arcade Fire's reputation as one of indie's finest.

The collection takes listeners through the band's rise to fame, highlighting their timeless funk and soul hits, while also reflecting on the unseen burdens faced by Black artists in America. Notable tracks like 'Sing A Simple Song (Alternate Mix)' and 'Underdog' offer fresh takes on familiar classics, giving fans new perspectives on songs that have long been anthems. There are also remixes, such as J.PERIOD's edits of 'Dance To The Music' and 'Everyday People,' which breathe new energy into the band's beloved sound. The collection also features rare versions of tracks like 'Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)' and 'Family Affair,' adding to the richness of Sly's musical legacy. By incorporating interviews and insights from figures like Andre 3000, D'Angelo, and George Clinton, the soundtrack elevates the music, providing a context that goes beyond just the sound. Review: It's been a while since we've heard from high-end hip-hop helmers PartyNextDoor and Drake. The two superstars usually work together to make ethereal stopovers on otherwise damn hard rap records, especially by the latter former Young Money megastar. Though the pair have never worked on a full-length album together before, Some Sexy Songs 4 U tots up to the third in an unsaid series of Drake collab albums, following ones between 21 Savage and Future. Dealing in themes of sexual jealousy and ongoing personal feuds - especially amid tumultuous fallouts between the larger private-jet-bound artist and various smaller up-and-comers such as Ice Spice - the record offers a stylistic range on an wide trap smorgasbord, working in Mexican rock samples and alt-rock progressions.

Review: The newly re-mastered release of Pink Floyd's legendary Pompeii performance from 1972 - released as a film initially and recorded without an audience - immerses the listener in the eerie grandeur of the ancient Roman amphitheatre. Steven Wilson, in charge of reworking the audio, breathes fresh life into the familiar, giving tracks like 'Echoes Part 1' and 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene' a heightened sense of space and detail. The alternate take of 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene' and the unedited 'A Saucerful of Secrets' show the band's ever-evolving approach at this most productive stage in their career. A raw, expansive reflection of Pink Floyd's creative journey as they morphed from psychedelic garage stars to prog rock giants.

Review: Serving as follow up to 2023's acclaimed breakout third full-length Take Me Back To Eden, London's elusive, masked progressive metal mystics Sleep Token return with Even In Arcadia. Renowned for their genre-fluid melding of djent, metalcore, post-rock with further leftfield elements of post-classical, hip-hop, trap and indie-pop, the project led by the enigmatic Vessel has seen a massive expansion in popularity since the release of their last album. Set to headline Download 2025 before embarking on their first US Arena Tour, their newest endeavour promises to maximise all of their sonic abandon and outdo their own blueprint in the process, with lead single 'Emergence' starting life as a piano ballad before morphing into an ambi-trap groove metal anthem until fading with a lush, jazzy saxophone and piano finish. No doubt, this will be one of the highest selling/streaming/controversial/debated/talked about metal-centric titles to be released this year.

Review: The fourth and final studio album from the now disbanded French electronic duo, Daft Punk, Random Access Memory gets a re-release on Sony complete with an exclusive poster and 16-page booklet. This release pays tribute to late 1970s and early 1980s American music, particularly the sounds hailing from Los Angeles at the time. For this seismic album, the band developed and enriched the minimalist production style typical of their previous releases though collaborating with session musicians performing live instrumentation, limiting the use of electronic instruments to simple drum machines, a custom-built modular synthesiser, and their signature vintage vocoders. Spanning an impressive selection of genres from disco, to prog rock and pop, the album also boasts a serious list of chart-topping collaborators - from Nile Rodgers, to Pharrell Williams, to Giorgio Moroder. Featuring hit single, 'Get Lucky', this album is already considered a defining release of the 2010s pop/electronic landscape.

Review: In its time, which spans 16 years from the mid-1980s to the turn of the Millennium, Creation Records was incapable of misfiring. From Boo Radleys and Guided By Voices, The Jesus & Mary Chain to Bob Mould, Ride, Kevin Rowland, Teenage Fanclub and Super Furry Animals. Let alone Primal Scream. Renowned for a multitude of genres, but particularly shoegaze, suffice to say Slowdive, England's dream pop doyens, delivered some of the label's most seminal work. Souvlaki is a prime example. Although it narrowly missed a spot in the UK's Top 50 Albums Chart, peaking at 51 in 1993, retrospective attention has heralded this not just as a shoegaze classic, but also a true landmark of late-20th Century British music. "Quiet, moving, and aggressive simultaneously, mixing trance-like beauty with the deepest delayed guitar sounds around," Pitchfork once said. Now, if you've more to add, speak up.

Review: Fear Inoculum brought a 13-year Tool hiatus to an end in typically dramatic, knock-your-socks-off and blow wind through your hair style. A fine example of what the group have always done so well - running with wolves like Mogwai, only with far more metal sensibilities, and a damn-sight bigger helping of experimentalism, when this bad boy arrived in 2019 it shot straight to the top of the US Billboard 200, the third consecutive record from the group to do so.

Of course, those charts don't necessarily mean as much in this age as they did when the preceding Tool LP dropped, but 270,000 album-equivalent units within the first week do not lie. Nor does the quality of work here. From the avant-garde percussion and awkward synths of 'Chocolate Chip Trip', to the almost-ethereal ambience of 'Legion Inoculant' and the riff and crescendo heavy 'Pneuma', it's a wild thing of beauty.

Review: Sade's 1992 album, Love Deluxe, immerses listeners in a luxurious blend of quiet storm, r&b and jazz-pop, enveloping Sade Adu's evocative expressions of desire and heartache. Emerging from the mid-'80s UK jazz-pop scene, Sade perfected a sound that fused jazz, bossa nova, and soul with a modern, streamlined edge. From their beginnings as a fusion of former members of post-punk and new wave bands, Sade the band evolved into a cohesive unit, crafting seamless compositions that seamlessly merged soulful staircases of sound with liquid-crystal pop-funk. Love Deluxe stands as their most monolithic work, a sonic journey characterised by its ethereal fluidity. Sade's music became synonymous with cosmopolitan exotica, transporting listeners to a world of jet-setting luxury and romantic introspection. Adu's introspective lyricism explores themes of love and longing with a depth that transcends traditional romanticism, delving into the complexities of human emotion. The album's production, marked by programmed beats and a minimalist approach to instrumentation, aligns it with the emerging trip-hop genre, characterized by its fusion of lushness and dread. The precise interplay of drums, synth, and guitar creates an immaculate sonic landscape, perfectly complementing Adu's mesmerizing vocals. Each track on Love Deluxe serves as a poignant exploration of love's multifaceted nature, from the relentless devotion depicted in 'No Ordinary Love' to the introspective character studies of 'Feel No Pain' and 'Pearls. Through Adu's evocative storytelling and the band's masterful instrumentation, Love Deluxe transcends mere romanticism, offering a profound meditation on the mysteries of love, birth, and death. It's an album that defies easy categorization, inviting listeners to lose themselves in its blissful abstraction and emotional depth.

Review: Actively wanting to distance himself from his divisive debut projects 'Goblin' and 'Bastard', American rapper and internet personality Tyler, the Creator pulled off a major tonal shift with 'Wolf'. Featuring his first high-profile features, like that of Mike G and Erykah Badu on the simmering 'Treehome 95', Tyler put it on record that he just wanted to make music for people to get high to as opposed to the aggressive, angsty hardcore angle on 'Yuckers' that got him famous. That doesn't mean that Tyler is dead, 'Jamba' and 'Tamale' still have that crunch for the old-school fans, but 'Wolf' shares much with its successor 'Cherry Bomb' in its awkward transitional sound leaving them as outliers in critics 'Best of Tyler' lists.

These are both amazing albums, with the rare praisers of which earning nothing but respect because, in all honesty, every Tyler, the Creator album is incredible - despite what the self-deprecating genius himself may say.

Review: SZA's last album Ctrl in 2017 took the American vocalist into the stratosphere and so a follow up was always going to be a big challenge. But she rises to it and then some as the GRAMMY award-winning Top Dawg artist calls upon a top draw list of collaborators including Jeff Bhasker, Rodney Jerkins, DJ Dahi, Ant Clemons and Lizzo. The album went straight in at number one on the Billboard chart and was widely acclaimed by critics for its vocal performances and mix of r&b, pop and hip-hop styles. Plenty fo SZA's own innermost feelings are fully translated into this record, making it another absurdist, ambitious work.

Review: In 1991, A Tribe Called Quest released The Low End Theory, a groundbreaking album that solidified their status as hip-hop legends. Building on the jazz-infused sound of their debut, the album featured sparse grooves and expertly chosen bass samples, with jazz bassist Ron Carter contributing to 'Verses from the Abstract.' DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad's minimalistic approach allowed Q-Tip and Phife Dawg's lyrical prowess to shine, showcasing their clever wordplay, humor, and social commentary. Tracks like 'Butter' and 'The Infamous Date Rape' addressed misogyny, while 'Rap Promoter' and 'Show Business' critiqued the music industry. The album's production is consistently smooth, with standout tracks such as 'Check The Rhime' and 'Jazz (We've Got).' The posse cut 'Scenario,' featuring Leaders of the New School, is a legendary closer. The album's influence on hip-hop is undeniable, inspiring future artists like Kendrick Lamar and Outkast. The Low End Theory remains relevant and refreshing, a testament to Tribe's creativity and unflappable style. It's a masterful blend of thought-provoking lyrics and impeccable production, making it one of the greatest hip-hop albums of all time.

Review: Dresden producer Purple Disco Machine presents his third studio album Paradise, riffing off his mature and developed passion for the intersection of house and disco. Building on the intense fervour for hits such as 'Hypnotized', 'Fireworks', 'Dopamine' and 'Substitution' comes this new lilac-hued opus. Implicitly nodding at the legacy of pop music's most short lived star, Prince - his ultimately symbolic, purple reign - Purple Disco Machine, as the name suggests, machinates the essence of such a sound in nu-disco form, successfully tributing to the new age of disco and once again sporting a star cast of features

Review: Arguably one of the most integral tentpoles of the grunge movement, Alice In Chains' seminal sophomore effort, Dirt, changed the game upon its release in 1992. Featuring some of the band's most classic cuts such as, 'Them Bones', 'Down In A Hole', 'Rooster', and, 'Junkhead', to name but a few; the incomparable dynamic of Wayne Staley's iconic vocals and cryptic, yet brutally honest lyricism combined with guitarist Jerry Cantrell's mammoth riffs and delicate nuance, still resides high in the echelons of alternative rock three decades on. For lifers and newcomers alike, this 30-year anniversary edition serves as an ideal opportunity to revisit a genuine classic, far murkier and riddled with antagonistic depths than any of its would-be peers.

Review: Beyonce's Cowboy Carter is a bold and poignant exploration of American roots music, marking a departure from her previous works while asserting her dominance across genres. Inspired by her 2016 experience at the Country Music Association Awards, where she faced criticism and racism despite her Texas roots, Beyonce delves into Louisiana Cajun country, the rivers of Alabama, and the streets of Memphis, reimagining Americana, folk, and country in her own image. The album serves as a powerful statement on the erasure of Black contributions to country music and American culture, with Beyonce reclaiming her rightful place in the genre's history. Through collaborations with legends like Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson, as well as emerging Black country and rock musicians, Beyonce highlights the enduring legacy of Black artists in shaping these musical forms. Cowboy Carter is both a sonic journey and a cultural commentary, blending elements of folk, country and rock with Beyonce's signature style and vocal range. From the haunting cover of the Beatles' 'Blackbird' to the electrifying trap beats of 'Ya Ya,' the album showcases Beyonce's versatility and musical dexterity. No doubt, 2024 will be another strong year of Beyonce led by this album.

They deliver plenty of haunting melodies and introspective lyrics that make for a deeply immersive listen. There is a real melancholic beauty to 'Nutshell' while a gritty intensity pervades 'No Excuses.' Each song offers a glimpse into the band's emotional depth and musical complexity, always with raw emotion and captivating performances that make this one a standout release in Alice in Chains' discography.

Review: A nostalgia-packed journey through one of pop music's most exciting years, featuring an impressive lineup of extended and remixed tracks from the decade's biggest stars. This four disc collection brings together a mix of chart-topping anthems, cult classics and dancefloor staples, each in its extended 12" glory. Things start with Wham!'s infectious 'Freedom' (long mix) and keeps the energy high with Culture Club's politically charged 'The War Song' (Ultimate dance mix). New Order's 'Thieves Like Us' and Philip Oakey & Giorgio Moroder's 'Together In Electric Dreams' add a synth-laden sheen, while Eurythmics' haunting 'Sexcrime (Nineteen Eighty-Four)' is a bold statement piece. As the tracklist moves on, iconic tracks like Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Relax' (New York mix) and Duran Duran's 'The Reflex' (dance mix) capture the decade's indulgent soundscape. Meanwhile, softer gems like Talk Talk's 'It's My Life' (extended mix) and Echo & The Bunnymen's 'Silver (Tidal Wave)' provide balance. Closing with Paul McCartney's heartfelt 'No More Lonely Nights' (extended) and the ever-catchy 'Somebody's Watching Me' by Rockwell, this compilation offers a comprehensive snapshot of 1984's pop brilliance. Having these extended versions together in one set is more than a greatest hits package - it's like having all the maxi singles together like an experienced DJ ready to rock a party.

Review: Sade's debut album Diamond Life (1984) introduced a distinctive blend of minimalistic soul and jazz-infused pop, contrasting sharply with the synth-heavy trends of its time. Lead vocalist Sade Adu's modest contralto and understated elegance enchanted listeners, earning comparisons to legends like Billie Holiday and Nina Simone. The album's standout track, 'Smooth Operator,' showed the band's penchant for crafting sophisticated, emotionally resonant music amidst a backdrop of serene instrumentation. Diamond Life navigates themes of love, commitment, and everyday struggles with an understated grace, epitomized by tracks like 'Hang On to Your Love' and 'Your Love Is King.' Sade's ability to convey depth and desire with concise lyricism and atmospheric melodies set her apart as a master storyteller in the realm of blues-infused pop. The album's subdued tones and atmospheric production create a stunning sonic landscape that remains impactful. Diamond Life made Sade a household name as a pioneering figure in minimalist soul, setting the stage for her illustrious career and leaving an indelible mark on the music industry.

Review: Stronger Than Pride marks a subtle shift in Sade's sound, emphasizing a more stripped-down, meditative approach to romance and introspection. Recorded after a hiatus, the album exudes a breezy, unhurried vibe, with compositions that loop back on themselves and melodies that leisurely unfurl. While not as minimalistic as later efforts, the album showcases softer rhythms and lighter melodies, allowing Sade's airy vocals to shine. Songs like 'Love Is Stronger Than Pride' and 'Turn My Back on You' capture emotional honesty and candor, buoyed by sparse arrangements that enhance Sade's directness. Throughout the record, Sade's writing maintains a mantra-like quality, repeating phrases to imbue the songs with quiet anguish and introspection. Leroy Osbourne's background vocals add warmth to Sade's cool melodies, enhancing the emotional resonance of tracks like 'Paradise' and 'Nothing Can Come Between Us.' The band's cohesion and faith in each other are evident on Stronger Than Pride, with each member contributing to flesh out Sade's ideas or provide space for them to bloom. While lacking the glitz and melodrama of previous hits, the album's emotional clarity and restrained production make it a compelling addition to Sade's discography, showcasing their ability to evolve while staying true to their signature sound.

Review: More than half a century after its original release, Pink Floyd At Pompeii: MCMLXXII has returned to cinemas. Shot in 1971 at the haunting amphitheatre ruins of Pompeii, the film captured the band in their pre-DSOTM phase, during which time they were moving away from their originally overt psychedelia and space rock ventures and packing their work with a denser thematic and political verve. The DVD edition represents live versions of 'Echoes' and 'A Saucerful of Secrets', among other ashen, ruinous greats, in newly restored clarity - and that's not to mention its accompanying, behind-the-scenes studio footage of an early DSOTM studio session. This is a full 90-minute cut scanned in 4K from rediscovered 35mm negatives, with Steven Wilson providing a lush new audio mix in Dolby Atmos and 5.1.

Review: When Scottish alternative rock heroes Teenage Fanclub first dropped this, their third full length outing, it was something of a milestone. Arriving via the world famous and universally (well, we think so anyway) revered label Creation Records certainly never does anyone any harm, but in this case all the stars aligned in such way to offer the band what every British guitar act aims for - US success.

American tastemaker title Spin magazine even crowned it Album of the Year for 1991, a sure sign of its impact over the other side of the Atlantic. Whether you'd agree with that accolade or not, it's a classic example of jangle-noise-power pop indie that really helped define what those words actually mean for at least two generations to come. A landmark release.

Review: Ranked among the 25 greatest guitarists of all time by numerous list-making taste makers and titles, among them Rolling Stone magazine, Buddy Guy should need absolutely no introduction after spending almost 80 years putting out music and playing it on stage. With such a storied career, the smart money is on him being able to call some pretty special talent in for a new album, and for his 19th studio long-player that's exactly what happened.

Produced by Grammy-winning rock and county legend Tom Hambridge, who himself picks up multiple instruments for multiple tracks here, The Blues Don't Lie isn't re-writing any rules, and nor should it, with Mavis Staples, Bobby Rush, Elvis Costello, James Taylor and Wendy Morten among the guests helping to make this the most authentic blues record you'll buy all year.

Review: Pink Floyd's Roger Waters recorded The Lockdown Sessions at home during the COVID lockdowns between 2020 and 2021. Of course, intrigue was bound to spark up as to what Waters would be doing in this time, so we're not surprised supply has matched demand. What ensues is a mixture of exclusive live originals (mastered for this EP of course), and a handful of new versions of old Floyd classics. The 2022 version of 'Comfortably Numb' falls into the latter category, appearing on the B-side. Meanwhile, brand new cuts like 'Mother' and 'Two Suns In The Sunset' appear on the A, acting as Waters' new reflections on a world driven mad; the songs were first streamed live to fans during the incipient, isolated phase of Zoom-calling and make-do music performances from inside musicians' homes.

Review: While recent breakout hit 'Stargazing' remains an undeniable earworm, this EP doesn't let it overshadow the rest of the tracks. From the infectious opening of 'Nice to Meet You' to the heartfelt closer 'Little By Little', Smith creates a collection full of memorable moments. His ability to blend folk-pop with emotionally charged lyrics shines through, especially on tracks like 'Wait For You' and 'Whisper', where the vulnerability in his voice adds depth to the storytelling. The brilliant collaboration with James Bay on 'Waste' brings an added layer of depth to the EP, with their voices complementing each other beautifully. Meanwhile, '3am' tells the feeling of loss with its haunting violin and introspective. A Minute... is a strong indication of Myles Smith's potential - a collection of songs that are both accessible and sincere. Fans of heartfelt pop-folk will find much to enjoy here and it's clear Smith is on the rise.

Review: If there was ever an artist suited to a posthumous release it's Leonard Cohen. The gravel-voiced baritone never made light of situations in life, so "voice from grave" fits him down to the ground. Moreover, if there was ever an artist we needed more music from it must be Cohen, one of the most gifted songwriters of the 20th Century, poet laureate of the human condition and the good and evil men and women do. This collection of leftovers from a relentlessly incredibly career has been pieced together with a little help from friends and family still cursed to walk this troubled Earth. Son Adam Cohen led on the project, with former-collaborators such as Beck, The National's Bryce Dessner and Feist called in for services. Not that you'd tell. The finished product is timeless Cohen business - a gentile and humble powerhouse you can't help but feel profoundly moved by.

Review: The Welsh rock icons' first new studio album since 2021's The Ultra Vivid Lament Door To The River and - remarkably - their 15th studio album. Recorded at their studio in Newport and the legendary Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, produced by regular collaborators Dave Eringa and Loz Williams and mixed by Caesar Edmunds (Beach House/Suede/Wet Leg), the album captures Manics in their melodic prime. James Dean Bradfield's voice is one of the treasures of modern rock - somehow sounding as fresh and powerful as it did in the 90s. On the single 'Decline & Fall' you can hear the immediacy and synths and guitar sounds coming together like a fireworks display celebrating the opening of a new chapter. We even get, if not quite a diss track then certainly a retort song, to a certain Mr Morrissey in the shape of 'Dear Stephen', in which Nicky Wire concocts an imagined belated reply to a postcard he genuinely received from the Smiths singer back in the 80s. The Manics don't have anything to prove at this stage of their career, but the fact they keep knocking it out of the park is astounding. Long may they keep finding this type of form.

Review: Francoise Hardy En Vogue - Best Of 1962-1967 captures the peak of Hardy's iconic career during her influential years on the Vogue label. Between 1962 and 1967, Hardy emerged as a symbol of French elegance and introspective pop, captivating audiences worldwide with her distinct charm and emotional depth. This compilation features her most enduring hits, like 'Tous les garcons et les filles', 'Mon amie la rose' and 'L'amitie', which embody the heartfelt sentimentality and existential undertones she brought to the French ye-ye scene. Her timeless melodies have been featured in contemporary films (including Wes Anderson's), TV series and ads, proving her enduring influence on music and style. Known for blending folk-rock, chanson and even touches of psychedelia, Hardy's work from these years reflects her unique voice in 1960s pop culture. This collection is essential for any fan of Hardy's atmospheric ballads and a perfect tribute to her role as a global ambassador of French sophistication.

This timeless classic, originally released in 1984, shows Springsteen's departure from the sombre tones of Nebraska to a more hopeful and radio-friendly sound. Review: Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, known for their remarkable work with Nine Inch Nails and film scores like The Social Network, deliver a techno-charged soundtrack for Luca Guadagnino's tennis-themed love triangle drama Challengers. The score is a pulsating mix of electroclash, synth-pop, and driving techno, expertly weaving traditional instruments with electronic beats. Reznor and Ross take Guadagnino's vision to heart, crafting a soundtrack that not only drives the narrative but also challenges expectations with its bold, rhythmic energy. Tracks like 'Compress/Repress', co-written with Guadagnino and featuring Reznor's vocals, showcase their ability to blend artistic expression with the film's themes of control and power. Overall, this is a excellent soundtrack that works well to support the visual or just listening to it without having seen the movie.

Review: A refined reimagining of his 2020 album 3.15.20, Childish Gambino's evolution both musically and personally has come full circle. Originally released during the early pandemic, 3.15.20 was a raw, unfinished work, but Atavista polishes its predecessor, adding clarity and finality to Gambino's bold vision. The album retains its experimental nature, ranging from vintage soul to dark, electronic soundscapes, with tracks like 'Psilocybae' (formerly '12.38') and 'To Be Hunted' now more defined and impactful. The refined vocals and instrumentals elevate the emotional depth, while the stripped-down tracklist favors the fresher sounds like the title track and 'Human Sacrifice'. While the album doesn't stray far from its predecessor, the tweaks are significant. Gambino's collaborations with Ariana Grande, 21 Savage, and Summer Walker shine and tracks such as 'Time' and 'Final Church' demonstrate his ability to blend sweet melodies with dark, experimental energy. A powerful prelude to what could be his final album, coming next.

Review: Returning after a veritable splash in the chart-topping world of pop nearly ten years ago - and having laid down three full studio albums already - Zara Larsson fleshes out her brand evermore with the upcoming fourth LP, Venus. In keeping with a full Larsson coming-of-age, the Swedish it-girl fulfils her promise of an album chock-full of "uptempo, fun dance songs", albeit with an glitzier edge, and the sound of an artist assuming more ownership over her output, centring on the theme of feminine autonomy in the form of tracks like 'Can't Tame Her' and 'On My Love' with David Guetta. She's come a long, long way from 'Lush Life', exploring a multi-temporal brand of electronic pop and reclaiming her place in the limelight.

Review: Bizarro World is a fictional world of opposites, born of the DC superhero universe, Superman most prominent among its bravers. Few know, however, that the English rock band The Wedding Present also briefly traversed Bizarro World, albeit not to fight alternate reality crime and/or vanquish nega-selves, but rather to bottle its antinomic essence, and of course to record a second album. Packing two of their best-loved hits, 'Brassneck' and 'Kennedy', among many more ingenious indie album curios, this reissue of Bizarro comes to orange biovinyl - a more environmentally sustainable product, as it doesn't contain any petroleum content - and throws us welcomingly back to 1989, in which ultrafast axe jangle, and deft, irreverent lyrics about apple pie and TV addiction predominated. The record is also noted for two furtherances of interest: a well-documented rerecord of 'Brassneck', and a cover of 'Box Elder', originally written by their then unknown indie peers, Pavement.

Review: Following on from last year's triumphant return to pop-punk glory that was Blink-182's ninth overall full-length One More Time (yet seventh with original vocalist/guitarist Tom DeLonge and first since 2011's Neighbourhoods), the band return to remind fans that the extensive good will they've been awarded by their devout followers on this comeback is very much reciprocated. Too early to drop another full-length, yet clearly rejuvenated to the point that new material keeps rearing its head during their continuing global tour, the trio opt to meet themselves in the middle with One More Time Part 2, which is essentially a mega deluxe version complete with ten bonus tracks, adding an additional half hour of new material (a new album in pop-punk terms). Boasting refined anthems such as 'No Fun' and 'All In My Head', while making room for darker synth-laden moments such as 'Can't Go Back' and even more Box Car Racer indebted buzzsaw post-hardcore in the form of 'Everyone Everywhere', this definitive collection offers far more than a forgettable batch of cutting room floor B-sides, and provides a comforting notion that this (one more) time around, Blink are back for themselves and the creative reward as much as for the fans and the payday.

Folds' clever songwriting shines throughout the album as he weaves poignant lyrics with catchy melodies and infectious hooks. From the anthemic 'Brick' to the playful 'Kate,' each track showcases the band's unparalleled musicianship and dynamic range. The album's raw emotion and authenticity still resonate and create an intimate connection that transcends its era. It is the rich harmonies, memorable tunes and heartfelt storytelling that make this one such a classic in the alternative rock genre.

Review: Several of Whitney Houston's albums are being reissued right now including this soundtrack to The Preacher's Wife, making its first ever appearance on vinyl. The album is the best-selling gospel record of all time and was released in November 1996, featuring songs both performed and produced by Houston herself and she also, of course starred in the film. Her heart-swelling vocals make this an emotional record with the hauntingly beautiful likes of 'I Believe In You and Me,' spiritual sounds of 'Joy To The World,' and fine guest artists including Shirley Caesar, the Georgia Mass Choir and Houston's mother and singing legend in her own right, Cissy Houston.

Review: If its predecessor shook up the formula for what a superhero animation could be, Spiderman: Across The Spider Verse blew the game wide open in a dazzling display of shape-shifting visual style, heartfelt narrative and spellbinding action. Daniel Pemberton returned to the project to score the sequel and as he explained to Rolling Stone he followed the versatile approach to animation as a guide for how he composed the music. From archaic medieval bombast to grunge inspired squall on to the synthetic sheen of techno, the soundtrack is as wild a ride as the world-flipping action in the film.
