Review: It would be fair to say that "On A Different Note", the debut album from long-serving German producer Andreas Werner, has been a long time coming. Astonishingly, it's been 15 years since he first started exploring the deeper side of techno and tech-house under the Audio Werner alias, making the album a genuine 'event' release. Happily, it more than lives up to the hype, with Werner offering up a fine selection of melodious and atmospheric, club-ready cuts and occasional forays into intoxicating, otherworldly, beat-free territory (see the weird and spaced out "Es". Highlights include life-affirming opener "Ohne", the 13-minute deep tribal techno jam "Vogel" and the inspired ambient techno outing "Alter", which has echoes of Biosphere's 1993 cut "Baby Satellite".

Review: Dutch dub house engineer Roger Gerressen released his superb Monoaware EP four years ago, and as part of Sushitech's 15 year celebrations it receives a much needed repress. The Irenic chief's distinct brand of hazy and hypnotic house of the understated kind is prevalent throughout the EP's six sublime tracks, all dialed into generous amounts of delay and long trails of reverb that add to its overall foggy aesthetic. The second track is definitely the more upbeat option to move the dancefloor with its funky and polyrhythmic groove, while the after hours option is undoubtedly the fourth track - a back room dub which gets deep enough to keep the heads down.

Review: Per Hammar and Berlin-based label Sushitech are a match made in heaven as both have long since proven their credential in the world of dub techno. As the label turns 20, it kicks off its year with an album that has been two years in the making and features a top-quality array of dub techno sounds. Malin Genie features on two of the more kicking and propulsive cuts, while Jannik Jivung adds an organic touch to two more. In between those sounds are percolating slow-mo jams like 'Representant Dubb' and more kinetic sounds like 'TX Files' with its fresh kicks and rolling bass.

Review: The now 20-year-strong Sushitech have been working on this one for two years and finally it drops - a new album from cultured dub techno don Per Hammar. This is a seriously deep journey into his signature sound that melds the genre's most classic side with a fresh modern twist. Cuts like 'Generation Drive' have a nice crisp sense of motion as well as lovely warped pads, while 'Juvial' brings a sense of curiousness with its undulating drums and bass. 'Defender' leans into sleek techno styles and will have you cruising in no time. An instant classic album, for sure.

Review: As if the bumper Mosaic reissue package from recent months wasn't enough, Sushitech are at it again with yet more dub-techno-house gold from the vaults of Steve O'Sullivan, yet again stuffing three whole slabs of vinyl with unmissable gems from a producer only just getting his just desserts. Tapping into perhaps the most spaced out and mellow of all the O'Sullivan material, jams such as the delicate "Inside Out" ooze sophistication and simplicity that evades producers aiming for the same immersive tone in these times. Review: Delano Smith has been an integral part of Detroit's musical landscape for nigh on 30 years, but it's only recently that the producer has begun to explore the album format. Back in 2012, Smith released the debut album An Odyssey for Sushitech which was a fine representation of the Detroit-via-Chicago producer's contribution to techno pretty much since its birth. His relationship with Yossi Amoyal's label has only strengthened in the ensuing period, and its little surprise to see that the Sushitech boss has coaxed a second album out of Smith. Entitled Twilight, the eleven track album will please fans of the Mixmode Recordings boss no end, mixing smooth, hypnotic deep house and snappy techno with just the right amount of basement soul and melodic complexity.

He is a master of crafting perfect loops that could roll for days a never grow dull. The full extent of that skill was laid bare on his wonderful album An Odyssey, which turns 20 in 2025. He has long been close to Sushitech who now reissue it in a very limited run on a special gold slab of wax. The tunes are heady, lo-fi, grainy and gorgeous sounds for warm-ups, zone-outs and plenty of the more discerning and intimate moments in between.

Review: Delano Smith is one of the absolute OGs of Detroit techno, active in the scene since the 80s but always half a step to the side of the spotlight. His sound has reached many different moods and intensities over the years, but this Detroit Lost Tapes collection on Sushitech has to rank amongst the finest things he's done. As you'd expect for Sushitech, who are re-releasing this album to help toast 15 years as a label, the mood is subtle and hypnotic, balanced somewhere between techno and house without going anywhere near tech house. Sleek, refined, hypnotic and soulful, this is Smith at his very best.

As you'd expect for Sushitech, who are re-releasing this album to help toast 15 years as a label, the mood is subtle and hypnotic, balanced somewhere between techno and house without going anywhere near tech house. Sleek, refined, hypnotic and soulful, this is Smith at his very best.

Review: The Sushitech 15th anniversary celebrations have been a long and winding trip back through the imperious tech house label's dub-soaked back catalogue, and it finally comes to rest on this gem from 2017. Marco Rhauderwiek's sound is pure Sushitech, all billowing dub techno blooms and heads-down, late night beats, but the presence of Paul St. Hilaire takes the music to another level entirely. The legendary veteran of Rhythm & Sound and so much more dub-techno crossover business since, the man like Tikiman has a voice synonymous with this style, and he sits beautifully in Rhauder's elegant groove sculptures. Highly prized since its original release, it's a show-stopping release which beautifully draws a line under Sushitech's moment of reflection.

Review: Although his productivity has waned in recent years, there was a time when Icelandic producer Thor - AKA Porhallur Skulason - was responsible for some of the most highly regarded deep and dub techno around. Consequences, a timely career retrospective, revisits that period, collecting together the best of his output from the late '80s and early '90s. It features a mix of well-known cuts - most notably the dub techno classic "Aliens Don't Boogie" - with a range of lesser-known jams (the highlight of which is probably the jazzy, becalmed deep techno of "Good Day"). Review: A long-overdue reappraisal of Steve O' Sullivan's efforts as a producer is underway with this bumper release from Sushitech. Collating the myriad aliases of the Mosaic boss and drawing on some on his co-conspirators such as Mark Ambrose and Jorge Zamacona, this triple vinyl beast of a package is overflowing with high-grade house music powered with the attitude of techno. There's a classic feel to all the tracks here as they carry the torch for Basic Channel and the original dub techno ethos, but attaching the spacious, mysterious tones to a funkier template. That possibly oversimplifies the majestic quality to this breed of techno, but then of course the devil is in the details.

Review: Sushitech's second chapter of their Tessera compilations has been in the making for over two years. It's not hard to understand why, however. This monstrous 5 disc release is riddled with techno killers of the highest calibre, from start to finish. We knew that these guys were reliable purveyors of fine electronic dance music, but this is a truly impressive showcase, and surely up there with the likes of Ostgut Ton. In fact, this compilation goes even beyond the immediate techno remit. It's difficult to pick out the highlights here; everything is solid, and even the opening dub echoes of "Prelude" is enough to get us salivating. There's a rare appearance on the dubbed-out deep house of "Skank" featuring Rhauder, Steve O'Sullivan makes a sleek appearance, Delano Smith offers two magnetic pieces of Detroit magic, XDB's "Frost" is nothing short of spectacular, and even Efdemin's glitchy, minimalist deep house seems more poignant than usual. This is a big'un - don't miss it.
