Notes: The Polaris is a 4-stage cascaded OTA filter designed by David Dixon. It builds on the lineage of the Dr. Octature and Atlantis filters, but with a totally revised core and resonance control. Along with dedicated LP, HP and BP outputs it features a configurable MULTI output capable of an unprecedented 27 different filter modes.

With drive turned down the Polaris is capable of buttery smooth filtering, and the cutoff control range has been fine-tuned for playability. With the drive dialled up and the new asymmetric multi distortion circuit engaged it creates a more aggressive sound. Not content to be just a filter, the Polaris's AP phaser mode combined with frequency modulation can be used to achieve a phaser effect.

With so much versatility in a modest size, the Polaris is an ideal filter for a starter system and an excellent addition to the tonal palette of a larger modular.

Notes: The Quad VCA is a compact and feature packed module that is sure to find its way it almost all of your patches. In addition to being used for standard VCA duties it can also be used as a mixer and signal booster.

The four handy knobs can act as active attenuators (unipolar) or attenuverters (bipolar) depending on the setting of the two-position switches above each one.

Each input is normalled to a precision +5V DC voltage source. With nothing plugged into the jacks, each knob controls a voltage range of 0 to +5 v or -5 to +5 v depending on the position of the mode switch.

The Intellijel Quadrax consists of four independent, CV-controllable channels, each of which can be configured to perform any one of the following functions:

- An AD (Attack, Decay) envelope
- An AHR (Attack, Hold, Release) envelope
- A cycling envelope (resulting in a unipolar LFO)
- A pulse burst generator (Finite repeated functions that ascend or descend in amplitude)
- A morphing, bipolar beat syncable LFO

The envelopes all feature a continuously variable response curve, ranging from logarithmic through linear to exponential, and each stage can be as snappy as 0.3 ms to as lengthy as 20 seconds.

When set to Burst mode, the channel generates a rising or falling burst of pulses, with full control over the length of the pulse burst, the number and shape of the bursts within it, and whether the bursts increase or decrease in amplitude over the burst.

AD, AHR, Cycling and Burst modes all feature a user-selectable maximum output level of either 5V or 10V.

LFO mode offers control over the frequency and waveshape, while providing a unique morphing feature that creates numerous variations of the selected waveshape. LFOs can be either free-running or beat-synchronized using the channel's TRIG input.

Channels can be chained together to create complex multi-stage envelopes, with each channel triggered by the previous channel's trigger input, end-of-rise, or end-of-fall. This enables multiple function generators to fire simultaneously, or it enables the creation of complex multi-stage envelopes by allowing the linked function to fire either at the end of the previous function's rise time, or at the end of its fall time.

Four freely-assignable, step-attenuverted CV inputs are capable of modulating any or all of the various parameters across all four channels using the built-in CV matrix, and built-in attenuversion for each assignment.

Quadrax remembers its current state (Mode and CV assignments, channel links, etc) and retains that state even if power is removed, meaning Quadrax will always turn on in exactly the same state as you last left it.

Notes: The Qx expander adds an EOR (End Of Rise) and an EOF (End Of Fall) trigger/gate output to each of Quadrax's four channels, enabling Quadrax's envelopes, cycles, bursts and LFOs to trigger external modules.

The definition of EOR and EOF vary depending on which mode is assigned to the corresponding Quadrax channel. Please see the manual for a more detailed explanation.

Notes: Scales is an 8hp dual-channel note quantizer and step sequencer. Fundamentally, it takes an input voltage, quantizes it to notes in a user-defined scale, and sends that quantized voltage to an output, where you can use it as a melodic pitch source for oscillators or any other module that expects to see discreet note values at its input.

Scales goes far beyond the fundamental, allowing you unprecedented control of the pitches and intervals hiding inside your control voltages; turn LFO's into arpeggiators; random voltages into harmonic counterpoint; and unquantized external CV sequencers into chromatically tuned note sequencers.

Quantization can be locked to an incoming trigger. There are a number of trigger output options as well, ranging from no triggering (good for pitch shifting drones); through triggers that sync with either of the two outputs (or both); to a trigger or gate transmitted in sync with one sent to the module's TRIG input.

Shift:

Scales features two independent outputs, enabling you to create shifted harmonic intervals within your chosen scale using only a single pitch input. Using the SHIFT input you can modulate changes on OUT A and/or OUT B.

You can also use the shift input to switch between scales or to change the root of any existing scale pattern or split Scales into two quantizers - each conforming to a common scale, but fed entirely different voltage sources.

Sequence:

Scales also features a 128-step SH-101 style step sequencer (complete with storage for up to 35 fully programmable patterns) - allowing you to feed OUT B with sequenced notes and rhythm patterns, while OUT A continues to function as a standard pitch quantizer for external voltages. You can even sync the sequencer to quantizer events on OUT A.

Intellijel's design goal for Sealegs was to create the warmest, most musical and organic delay module possible - something that would sweeten and enhance any audio one chose to feed into it. As such, great care has gone into modelling the most distinctive and desirable sonic characteristics of three different types of delay circuits: Tape; Bucket Brigade, and Crossfading Digital.

Notes: The Shifty is essentially a combination of four sample and hold stages, a sequential gate and sequencer controller. This collection of functions allows for some specific and useful utility application.

One of the primary uses for Shifty is to take a monophonic sequence source and route each new note of the sequence to up to four different synthesizer voices in a specific pattern. In this way you can create pseudo polyphonic sequences since each voice can be triggered to play and sustain while the next voice int the sequence gets triggered. Another term for this is hocketing.

The other main application of the Shifty is to function as an Analog Shift Register. In this mode each new gate input received causes the current set of pitches to be shifted to new output locations as a new one is added and the oldest one is replaced. This can be an interesting way to create chords that are up to four stacked notes when used with a pitch sequence source that has a harmonious series of notes (e.g. a pentatonic scale works really well). Even just using two of the outputs will yield very interesting melodic interplay and is an excellent way to make a simple sequence much more complex and interesting.

In a more basic way the Shifty could be used as a simple Sample/Track and Hold module or as a sequential gate.

Notes: There are many excellent digital reverbs available these days but there is still nothing quite like the timeless and magical character of a true spring reverb.

For the Intellijel Springray II, each tank has a totally different set of characteristics, with many unexpected surprises when feeding it through a wide variety of sound sources. One of the most interesting results is how a slow attack saw waveform from a Dixie almost sounds like a realistic cello!

Version two of the Springray provides a number of changes and improvements to the original design. The shelving EQs have been replaced with a parametric EQ with frequency, Q, and gain controls. The CV inputs for feedback and mix balance have been replaced with inputs to control the filter frequency and gain. Lastly, the feedback and limiter circuits have been redesigned, and the drive quality has been improved.

Notes: The Stereo Mixer 1U provides a convenient way to combine your mono and stereo sources into a single stereo mix. There is level control over the first two channels and, using a rear connector, you can chain multiple Stereo Mixer 1U's together into a hidden 3rd stereo channel without using up channels on the front panel. The chain i/o connectors are fully compatible with the Mixup connectors so you are able to mix 1U and 3U mix chains together as needed.

The Stereo Mixer 1U is a versatile, expandable audio mixer for the Intellijel 1U format. It has two pairs of front panel inputs, each with its own level control, and a mixed output pair. For each input pair, the left channel is normalled to the right channel, for mono operation.

Using 3-pin Link connectors on the back panel, you can chain multiple Stereo Mix 1U's together in series, giving you the ability to mix together even more inputs, or to create sub-mixes for routing audio around larger systems. Notes: Switched mults come to Intellijel's space-saving 1U format, offering six jacks and two busses, routing signals between the two or muting them using three-position switches.

Supplier's Notes:
The Mult 1U takes one audio or CV signal input, and (mult)iplies to up to four outputs. Because the Mult is passive, it requires no power to operate. Multiply anything by four, twice.

A signal multiplier accepts an input signal and routes it to multiple outputs simultaneously. For example, you might want a sequencer's GATE to trigger two different envelopes - one to control volume and one to control filter frequency. In order to accomplish this, you need a signal multiplier.

In addition, each Switched Mult 1U features a pair of 3-pin Link connectors on the rear panel. These let you connect other 3-pin Link devices, such as an XY I/O 1U module, or even additional Switched Mult 1U modules (handy for distributing mults across the width of your case).

Push (or Pulse) the Envelope

Snappy, classically analogue envelopes with visually intuitive controls. Add a powerful, cv controllable cyclical gate generator, integrated VCA, and trigger buttons -then double it-now you've got Tangrams.

Tangrams, like the Dual ADSR before it, is a dual analogue core-envelope inspired by the Roland SH-101 / System 100m design with several enhancements. Taking further inspiration from trapezoidal function generators like the one on the EMS Synthi, Intellijel have added a voltage-controlled pulser circuit to link the triggering of two envelopes - allowing for delayed one-shots, cycling organic envelopes, and more. In addition, Intellijel added two VCAs for level control of each envelope, or alternatively, direct injection of the signal you'd like to envelope - freeing up your other VCAs.

The Pulser

The Pulser can be thought of as a way to set both a gate ON time (T1) and an OFF time (T2). In this way, you could configure a cycling ADSR that has a gate time that is different from the interval between gates. Alternatively, you can create a sequence where ADSR2 is triggered by a delayed amount of time after ADSR1 is triggered (either cyclically or in a single shot sequence). The panel switches for routing or disabling the pulse sources allow for even more complex combinations of control beyond these examples. This special combination of functions can yield a plethora of interesting and organic envelope and gate patterns to be created; cyclical and single shot.

Some of the key features:

Three primary modes: VOLTAGES, NOTES and COMBO.

VOLTAGES mode:

Up to 16 voltage storage locations (grid) with 8 voltages stored at each location.

You have the choice to record and playback your recall of these locations in a looper style (just play freely and spend arbitrary amount of time at any location) or as a clocked sequence (SH-101 style). Additionally you can traverse the matrix using the X and Y CV inputs to get Cartesian style sequencing.

There is also variable slew that allows you to morph/glide between the values.

NOTES mode:

You can create sequences or loops in chord, scales or keyboard mode. The isomorphic keyboard grid can vary from 4 notes to 12 notes max. There are real-time performance looping, transposition and inversion capabilities via the CV inputs and dedicated loop button. In sequencer mode each step can be a tie, rest, or gate with size 25/50/75%. Basically we have created a way to very quickly and intuitively make chord sequences that are very musical and easy to manipulate. It is difficult to summarize in words but we will be sure to create some videos to demonstrate how easy and fun this is to play with. It definitely represents something unique in the landscape of Eurorack sequencers.

COMBO mode:

In this mode you can loop record your performance on any combination of the following functions:

fader, bipolar fader, drum hit, switch or LFO. Kind of like Elektron style parameter locking but all of the motions is recorded continuously instead of just in slices. Instantly turn a simple patch into a highly animated and complex beast.

With all of the above mentioned loop recording modes you can very easily overdub since the Tetrapad detects pressure/pressing. In combo mode you can erase individual channels.

All modes allow for internal or external clocking and configurable syncing.

All of the modes have special XYZ CV modulation assignments and make use of the dedicated CV outputs.

For example, in Looper mode one of the CV outputs generates a continuous ramp that represents the position in the loop. This can be used with devices like the Planar 2 in Interpolation mode to sync the recorded patterns together no matter what tempo.

Notes: Tetrapad is a versatile, multi-dimensional, touch-sensitive control surface for Eurorack. Each of its four pads use force sensing resistors to respond to both the vertical position of your finger and its pressure. Four push encoders and a shift function give you even more tactile control over your modular system.

Tetrapad operates in numerous modes - each of which configures the module to perform a specific control task. Through these modes, Tetrapad can emulate a bank of faders; a voltage storage device; a finger drumming surface; a chord generator; an 8-key keyboard; four independent LFOs; or an 8-switch panel. The chosen mode determines what type of signal (CV, note, trigger, gate, etc.) is sent from each of Tetrapad's eight independent outputs, while its multitude of multi-coloured LEDs keep you informed of exactly what's happening within each mode.

Tetrapad automatically remembers how you've configured each of its modes and retains these settings when powered off. By default, Tetrapad automatically saves these settings every minute, or whenever you change modes. This makes Tetrapad ideal for live performance, since you know it will always power up with your configurations intact.

Notes: Triplatt is a three-channel active/buffered attenuverter and summing mixer. Each channel has a knob, which can function as a unipolar attenuator or a bipolar attenuverter, depending on the setting of its corresponding two-position polarity switch.

Each input is normalled to a built-in precision +5V DC voltage source. With nothing plugged into the jacks, each knob controls a voltage range of 0 to +5 V or -5 to +5 V depending on the position of the channel polarity switch. Outputs A and B are also capable of a range of 0-10 / -10 to +10 when using the special function switches.

Each output is normalled to mix into the output of the channel below, making it possible to do sub mixes in groups of two or three.

In addition, each channel has a "special function" switch to alter its input voltage in a specific way. Channel A has a 2x voltage multiplier switch, allowing you to double the voltage sent into Channel A. Channel B has a +5V switch, allowing you to add 5V to whatever voltage is sent into Channel B. Channel C has a mute switch, allowing you to completely turn off the signal being sent into Channel C.

Notes: Dual 3:1 audio and cv mixer (up to three buffered inputs with a single buffered output).

NOTE: Version 2 of the Unity Mixer has two sets of jumpers on the main pcb. These allow the top and bottom sum to be set to -6dB attenuation instead of unity gain. This creates more headroom when summing higher amplitude sources like raw VCO signals.

Notes: Originally designed for the Metropolix 1.4 MIDI update, the USB Extender extends the USB Micro connector on the back of a module, bringing it to the front panel for easy connection to your USB Host.

The 3U panel, includes a dual passive mult, which is great for splitting output signals to other modules. You can swap the panel with a Phillips-head screwdriver. The 1U panel does not have mults.

Also included is a 60CM Right-Angle Micro USB to Micro USB cable for routing the connection beneath the modules.

This module comes with a custom USB cable that connects on the back of the module to the Metropolix. The product comes with both 3U and 1U faceplates so you have the option to use it in either space.

Notes: XFADE 1U is a classic DJ-style stereo crossfader, with a few extra tricks up its sleeve. The 'A' and 'B' sides both have L+R inputs. The crossfader blends two stereo input signals together - crossfading one into the other depending on the position of the slider and the selected XFADE Shape. The blended output appears at the MIX L and MIX R output jacks.

In addition, XFADE 1U can be used as a modulation source for controlling other modules, since the crossfader also outputs control voltages from the CV A and CV B jacks. A switch determines whether these voltages are unipolar (crossfading from 0V to 5V; and 5V to 0V), or bipolar (crossfading from -5V to +5V; and +5V to -5V). The two LEDs indicate the polarity and relative levels of the CV A and CV B signals.

Notes: Killer physical modelling module collab from two of the biggest names in their respective fields of hardware and software. Generates a huge range of percussion instruments plus synths and bass tones.

Plonk uses a technique known as physical modelling to synthesize, with great realism, the way in which sound is produced by acoustic instruments. The Plonk module is, itself, focused primarily on creating percussive sounds - both pitched and un-pitched; natural and unnatural; acoustic-sounding or totally electronic.

Plonk does this by breaking sound creation into two distinct elements - the exciter and the resonator. The exciter is a mathematical model of the device used to strike a particular surface. Plonk, because it's percussion oriented, has two types of exciters: one modelled on a mallet, and the other providing a noise source. The resonator is a virtualization of the object being struck, which vibrates, resonates and creates the body of a sound. Plonk offers several types of resonators: beam; marimba; drumhead; membrane; plate; and string.

Plonk provides numerous parameters that let you shape, mould and design both the exciter and the resonator, thus enabling you to synthesize the sound of striking or scraping almost any type of object - real or imagined. In this way, Plonk can accurately model the sounds of kicks, snares, toms, cymbals, claps, tablas, congas and all manner of traditional percussion instruments. It can also model pitched percussive instruments, like vibes, marimbas, and even bass or guitar-like tones. Of course, it additionally excels at modelling instruments that heretofore never existed.

Best of all, the sounds created by Plonk are not static - any sound you design can respond dynamically to velocity, as well as four different modulation inputs. This means the sound of Plonk can change completely from note-to-note (or strike-to-strike). Because of this, Plonk is actually a duophonic (2-voice) module, which lets the sound of one note decay naturally when a second note (possibly employing an entirely different set of modelling values) is struck. Thus, hitting a new note does not choke the sound of the previously struck note (unless you want it to, of course)!

Plonk stores up to 128 patches in its internal memory, and ships with many presets programmed by professional sound designers and composers. You may overwrite these patches if you wish, and banks of patches may be transferred via MIDI System Exclusive over Plonk's built-in mini-USB port to facilitate offline storage by programs or websites that support this capability.

Plonk was developed in cooperation with Montreal-based Applied Acoustics Systems - physical modelling pioneers, and the creators of Tassman, Lounge Lizard, String Studio, Ultra Analog, Chromaphone and numerous other plugins. It is with great pleasure that Intellijel brings the potential of this physical modelling technology to a hands-on, CV-laden device capable of the sort of dynamic control and sonic exploration that modular synthesists demand.

Notes: The Intellijel/Cylonix RAINMAKER eurorack-format module provides a high-quality (96KHz sampling rate with 32-bit internal processing) stereo rhythmic delay and stereo comb resonator effect.

The stereo rhythm delay has 16 taps, each with its own resonant 2nd-order filter and granular pitch shifter. The filters have independently adjustable resonance and cutoff frequency, and can be set to either lowpass, bandpass, highpass or bypass operation. The filters are also capable of self-oscillation, enabling modal synthesis techniques. The granular pitch shifters have a range of 15 semitones up or 16 semitones down. Each tap can repeat at a rate value set in tap#'s in order to create regenerating echo effects. The feedback signal has a lowpass/highpass tone control and its own pitch shifter. The tap delay times can range from 0.1 millisecond up to a maximum of 20 seconds. The overall delay times can be set with the rotary encoder, the tap tempo button, or synced to an external clock.

The stereo comb resonator section has 64 time-delayed taps which are summed together. This produces a deep comb filter or resonating effect. At large comb sizes (long time delays) a multiple echo effect is produced. The density of the resonator can be varied from 2 to 64 taps. The tap with the longest delay time is fed back to the input. High feedback levels, with short comb sizes, produce "Karplus-Strong" types of plucked string sounds. The relative timing of the 64 taps are set according to one of 16 different preset patterns, which provide different resonator timbres or echo rhythms. The comb size can be set either with the rotary encoder, an external clock or through a transposable 1v/oct input voltage.

The Rainmaker module has extensive voltage control capabilities. Direct voltage control is available for the delay feedback level and tone, the global pitch shift for all delay taps, the comb resonator size, and comb feedback level. There are two assignable modulation inputs, which can be assigned to different parameters in each preset. A trigger input with assignable functionality can trigger built-in types of noise bursts, freeze the delay buffer, reverse the delay, randomize parameters, mute taps, and much more.
