Bijou - "Twilight"
De Pin Up Club - "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep"
Peet Need - "Here Comes The Arps"
Impresa Gottardo - "Trafori"
Review: Otto Kraanen's Bordello A Parigi label are on a roll right now, with no less than ten records issued since the turn of the year! One of those was the inauguration of the Riviera Disco series, overseen by Riviera Disco Club selector Julien Tavernier, which got off to a fine internationally flavoured start earlier this month with contributions from Disco Sigaretta, Dilemma and Sauroid founder DJ Gio MC-505. Volume two looks to be just as exotic in sound and international in flavour with Belgian producer Bijou sharing space with cuts from Dutch pair De Pin Up Club and Peet Need and Impresa Gottardo, the new collaboration between Ajello's Philippe Taverio and Jean Paul Lazarre. In need of pumping italo and synth heavy disco? This 12" will satisfy those cravings and then some.

Special Friend (feat Play Paul) (4:23)
Rhythm 55 (4:43)
Jean-Michel (4:26)
Space Jowblob (3:46)
Review: Fresh from a debut EP on My Robot Friend that featured collaborations with Chicks On Speed, Captain Mustache pitches up on Bordello A Parigi for the very first time. It's a great collection of tracks all told, with Play Paul collaboration "Special Friend" in particular offering a pitch-perfect blend of body-popping electro beats, thrusting analogue bass and Mascara-clad, wave-style lead vocals. "Rhythm 55" is a brilliant blend of spacey lead lines, squelchy bass and relaxed electro beats, while "Jean-Michel" doffs a cap to the great Mr Jarre via bold synthesizer melodies, spacey chords and bustling beats. Cheery closing cut "Space Jowblob", a wonderfully lo-fi affair full of 8-bit melodies and druggy bass, is also top-notch.

Tutti Quanti (club version) (6:17)
Tutti Quanti (radio version) (3:57)
Review: Bordello A Parigi continue their efforts to remain at the forefront of the Italo renaissance with a wondrous reissue of Casanova's "Tutti Quanti". Marking the steamy French italo ballad's 30th anniversary, this 10" reissue from the label features the original dynamic Club version as well as a previously unreleased radio edit as well as a Bordello A Parigi condom. Yep that's right. Harmonic, hooky and, at points, downright raunchy, "Tutti Quanti" is a bona fide Italo classic and a welcome addition to the collection of any new fan of the genre.

Acid Maria (7:02)
Acid Maria (Curses remix) (7:15)
Acid Maria (Younger Than Me remix) (5:23)
Review: Napoli has long been home to some superb musicians and producers, with the Italian city's dance music pedigree beyond question. Of the current generation of Neapolitan producers, Daniel Monaco has yet to receive the hype and plaudits of contemporaries Nu Guinea and Mystic Jungle Tribe, but if this single is anything to go be he should. In its original mix form, 'Acid Maria' is simply stunning - a breathlessly sleazy, heavy and mind-mangling fusion of ragged, acid house style TB-303 acid lines, thrusting, Moroder-style electro-disco bass and shimmering but spooky, late-80s Italo-disco riffs. Curses give it a more orthodox Italo-disco-meets-Bobby Orlando Hi-NRG feel on their remixes, while the Younger The Me take is a creepy, trance-inducing techno treat.

Tu Sei Pazza (Whodamanny Reinterpretation) (5:09)
Review: Fresh from his superb hook-up with Sauvage World on Roam Recordings - the brilliantly titled electro/nu-disco fusion of Paninari on Acid - Daniel Monaco makes his bow on Bordello a Parigi with a deliciously throbbing chunk of quirky Italo-disco revivalism. 'Tu Sei Piazza' is propelled forwards by a sequenced, arpeggio-style bassline and vintage drum machine beats, but it's what sits on top - tipsy trumpets, spy-funk guitar licks and FM synth lead lines - that makes the track such a vibrant bundle of fun. Arguably even better is the flipside Whodammy interpretation, which brilliantly re-imagines the track as a kaleidoscopic slab of mid-tempo, mid-80s boogie revivalism.

Paradise Island (4:30)
Tropique (4:50)
Magic (6:06)
Review: Vibrant disco-tinged house music from Dutch newcomer Doctr. "Paradise Island" is the ultimate rainbow rave anthem played live and direct through a SNES. Crisp and pixelated, it's the theme tune to your 90s childhood dreams. "Tropique" retains the synth positivity while adding more of a jacking shuffle to the rhythm. Finally "Magic" plays the role of the end-of-night hands-up finale with big piano strikes, subtle harp strokes and humanised harmonic textures. The NHS might be on its knees but as long as there are sonic surgeons like Doctr, our collections will remain more than healthy.

All Night (Spaventi D'Azzurro & Aroy Dee dub mix)
Review: Bordello A Parigi have fairly ruled it in 2014, and don't look like easing the pace down as the year draws to a close. This latest 12" from Italo-flexing label introduces Martin Duvall, alter ego of Amsterdam artist Martin C De Waal, and very much suited to the Bordello A Parigi cause on the evidence presented here. "All Night" is a fine slab of backwards glancing Italo, filled with breathless vocals, rippling arpeggios and strident drums and it's matched on the flip by the remix from Spaventi D'Azzuro & Aroy Dee. Eschewing their regular dusty techno styles, the R-A-G pair fully embrace Bordello's stylistic preferences here with a superb dub rendition that keeps the Italo vibe intact.

Review: This week on Bordello A Parigi we have a release originally from 1983 on Cinofilm Produzione. Berlin-based, Italian producer Armonics (Slow Motion) came across the 'Radio' 7? by coincidence in 2020 near his home in Southern Italy. Vito Lisco wrote and produced the track together with Renzo Maria La Costa back in the 80's in a basement. The original track has been revised with the vocal parts re-recorded, plus some added guitar riffs and remixed for a modern take on this eccentric Italo production by Evolution (L&L). Limited to 200 copies.

Time For Changes (Vanzetti & Sacco instrumental) (5:56)
Review: There is never anything less than exquisite that comes from the Dutch label Bordello A Parigi. And this new one from Faxe is only short but it really packs a punch. Time For Change sis the dazzling Italo disco opera with shooting arps, tinny retro future synths and 80s drum machines sound powering it along. Steamy vocals add further allure. The Vanzetti & Sacco instrumental in the flip is perfect body music for floors that want to get in a sweat. As always this is a must cop from one of the day's best disco labels.

Review: Franz Scala is head of the Slow Motion label as well as being a fine producer and remixer. He's long been pushing forward with his own vision for wave, house and disco sounds that could be 40 years old or beamed back from the future. Now alongside Bordello A Parigi and with support by Sameheads, he offers up his majestic debut album. It's a late night homage to glittering disco arps, rugged wave grooves and retro space references that are all crisp, well defined and full of chapter. The mix of guitars, synths and drum machines is one that gives rise to a great range of emotion and texture from start to finish.

Review: Now here's an Italo treasure trove if we ever heard one. Italian disco legend Fred Ventura recorded these during his transition from State Of Art and Actor's Studio in the early 80s to his status as one of the leading figures in the Italo scene. Previously unreleased and digitally remastered, all laced with his signature introspective vocal, it's the sound of Ventura finding himself and honing his craft before he went on to drop his breakthrough release "Zeit / Hollywood Party" (both of which can be found in demo form on this collection) and set his own Italian pop benchmark. High vaultage.

Review: G-Machine is having a nightmare and he wants you to have one, too. It's not your standard mare, mind. No naked in front of your school assembly business or suddenly realising you've still got exams to do, rather a deep cosmic dream galvanised by raw doses of funk thanks to a slippery slap bass that worms in and out of a hazy weave of synth and pads. "Flying Over The Island" on the B is no nightmare either; a breezy evocative slice of Balearica with infectious harmonic chimes, disco pops and dizzying layers of percussion... It's the perfect wake-up call from the sweetest of dreams. Once again the machine hits the G spot.

Review: There can be few better ways to get your 2023 off to a banging start than by dropping this one onto your deck. Bordello A Parigi always deal in superb Italo disco sounds and this is another case in point - G Race's 'On Fire' surges out of the speakers on bright, buoyant melodies that zip about the skies with all the energy of a collapsing star. Sheet metal perfusion and corrugated rhythms all add to the power. A textured breakdown version is also included and so too an instrumental.

Review: Under The Hasbeens name, Dutch pair Alden Tyrell and Jeroen 'DJ Overdose' Warmenhoven have been collaborating on an intermittent basis since 2006 which is entirely understandable given the respective various projects they both currently have on the go. Maybe is the duo's first release together since I Fall to Pieces and You & Me from 2009, and a welcome debut on the always great Bordello A Parigi label. Whilst previous material from The Hasbeens has, er, been characterised by shifts between restraint and full on Italo cheese, this new release is Tyrell and Overdose on a leaner, more club focused tip. Vocodered vocals, Skatt Brothers style basslines and fast paced techno drums never sounded so good!

The House Of The Rising Synth (DJ Overdose Watch The City Burn remix)
Review: The prolific MinimalRome boss Valerio Lombardozzi dons his familiar Heinrich Dressel guise for a superlative debut record on Bordello A Parigi. With prior contributions from Skatebard, Model Man and Fred Ventura on the label overseen by Otto Kranen, Dressel is in fine company and The House Of The Rising Synth apparently "ushers you into an imaginary movie full of pain and misery". Consisting of three original Dressel productions, it's obviously a short imaginary movie, and typically for a Dressel release it's hard to pick out one highlight. A rich sense of the sinister ripples through the heart of each track, taking on overt tones on the lead title track and appearing in a more subtle manner going forth. The Model Man himself DJ Overdose is present on remix duties too, adding some tough electro vibes to "The House Of The Rising Synth".

Review: Bordello A Parigi is back with more of their sublime electro jams this time from Heinrich Dressel. The EP kicks off with 'Galatograd', a slow and steady jam with shimmering chords and lazy baselines. 'Eden Olympia' then picks up the pace a little with still skill drums and celestial keys that take you on a jaunt through the cosmos. 'Remoria' brings many layers of lush and futuristic synth work and timeless electro rhythms that are comforting and subtly celebratory and 'Mylos' shuts down this most lovely EP with another classy sound.

Review: Bordello A Parigi outta Holland is back with another volume in its Diamond In The Night series. As always this is a stargazing collection of expansive future disco. Hyboid's 'Italians & Spacemen' opens up with lush arps and big chords reaching for the heavens. Discobeton then explores a more rueful mood with 'Discobeton 1' and its crystalline chords before the deadly duo of Daniel Monaco & Futuristant layer up machine gun synths and perfect 80s crashing drums into something that will detonate the dance floor. Things close on an intense note with Captain Mustache's 'Red Light Disco.'

WLDV - "Relax & Enjoy" (6:34)
Martin Matiske - "Dimensional Mode" (5:04)
Review: Launched back in 2020, Diamonds in the Night is Bordello a Parigi's multi-artist EP series. This is the fifth volume and, like its four predecessors, is firmly focused on peak-time and after-hours dancefloors. Kick and Enrik Schroeder get things going via the spiralling synthesiser melodies, thrusting sequenced bass and hands-aloft Hi-NRG vibes of 'Mezzanotte' - think Giorgio Moroder on steroids and you're close - before Club Mayz drops the darker, more angular and analogue rich Italo-disco throb of 'Princess of Excess'. Martin Mastike's 'Dimensional Mode' is a more pulsating and cheerful chunk of mi-tempo Italo, while WLDV's 'Relax and Enjoy' provides a suitably surging, clattering and breathless conclusion.

Review: Here is the debut LP by Austrian trio Leitstrahl. Stoff, Paul Raal and Boogaloo Steve are said to have been close collaborators over the last decade and a half, with Chromium Dioxide merging each respective member's love of the '80s - Hi-NRG, Italo, electro-pop and synth movie scores in particular - across a dozen tracks across two discs. From the neon-lit nite drive of opening cut 'Telemark', to moments of late night euphoria captured on VHS as heard on 'Europa Supersaw' featuring Jon Jon Foster of Bronski Beat. The sunset Balearica of 'Girotti' featuring Christina Mirabilis is for people watching at cafes on a boulevard in Rimini circa '88, while the slo-mo romantic pop of 'White Tail' featuring Jimmy Baker shows yet more diversity in their repertoire. Highly recommended.

Guarding The Frontiers
Review: There's no denying Bordello A Parigi have enjoyed a fine year, supplying the modern Italo scene with numerous anthems as well as branching out into house music with the Bitter Moon offshoot. Local Rotterdam producer Machinegewehr has already done his bit for the Bordello cause this year, appearing on a killer 12" alongside Gees Voorhees, Fred Ventura and A Visitor From Another Meaning (aka Alden Tyrell) and now he's back for more! This new Bordello 12" sees Machinegewehr on a solo tip with two killer Italo numbers, with the title cut "Carradine" seemingly positioned to look skywards throughout such is the soaring synth work at play. Complementing this, "Guarding The Frontiers" is a more supple and dare we say subtle affair that really highlights the artist's talent for intricate melodies.

Review: Thanks to a long line of releases from the likes of Model Man, Heinrich Dressel, Fred Ventura, Skatebard, Rude 66 and more, Otto Kraanen's Bordello A Parigi label has established itself as a prime outlet for all things saucy and Italo. If there's one producer that encapsulates this spirit to a tee, it's the flamboyant chief of Giallo known as Antoni Maiovvi, so it's great to see him releasing on Bordello A Parigi. The four track Trauma 12" is everything you want from a Maiovvi release, commencing with the dramatic Italo posturing of the title track and the croon-less dub version that ramps up the arpeggiated power. "Sacrilege" will please fans of the more muscular sounding Giallo disco, whilst "An Interface" slows the pace down and turns the heat up!

The latest release from Model Man arrives replete with a run out groove inscription that states: "Showing the way for the modern man to become a model man". Amusing observations about the latest philosophical scribbling to occupy the run out groove aside, this is a rather tasty selection of tracks from Model Man aka Den Haag alumni DJ Overdose which slips noisily between austere electro, synth wave laboratory experiments, glistening ambience and cinematic excursions into vocoder heavy industrial epics. The latter is demonstrated on perhaps our favourite jam "How Do I Get You To Do?" Factor in the lovingly presented cover art and illustrated inner sleeve and you have one classy slice of left leaning music here.

Like that EP - entitled Palermo Disco Theme - this follow-up explores a tuneful, ear-pleasing sound that draws influence from classic electro and Italo-disco. Undeniably analogue-rich and stylistically spot-on - all four tracks sound like they could have been made around 1984 - there's little to fault throughout. Highlights include the spacey pads, rising and falling melodies and gently pulsing arpeggio lines of "Sicilian Nights", the sticky, pitched-down chug of "Island Life", and the bubbly electro hustle of "Streets of Palermo".

Review: If you like your Italo-disco bright, full-throttle and peak-time ready, Thomas Blanckaert's occasional work as Palermo Disco Squad (he's better known for his rave-ready techno jams as Innershades) should be on your radar. It's been four years since he last used the alias, but the project's belated return to Bordello a Parigi is predictably triumphant. He sets his stall out with the freestyle and Bobby Orlando-influenced shimmer of 'After All These Tears', before opting for more chugging sequenced synth-bass and undulating lead lines on the slower 'L'amice Geniale (theme)'. 'Loupara' sounds like a shinier, more sun-splashed 'Please'-era Pet Shop Boys instrumental, while 'The Return' is a rushing, feel-good slab of freestyle/post-Italo fusion that's as sunny and joyous as they come.

Review: Tangible new wave feels are at play as Riccardi Schola elevates from trusted Italo DJ to full-artist with the heartfelt ballad "On My Mind". Belting out his lament with the harmonic contrasts of Noemie Stein, it sits somewhere between the Pet Shop Boys and Sebastien Tellier in all the best possible ways. It's backed by the synth boogie strutter "Multi Chocco" and the more subtle and sultry "On The Moon". Dreamy, dubby and a great way of ensuring this stays on our mind for a long time to come.

Second Breath (6:38)
The Quest (6:21)
Review: Neon lit Italo disco magic from Endrik Schroeder here on the ever reliable Bordello a Parigi imprint. The producer had two releases between 1997 - 2002 on Grenoble's Interface Label then resurfaced last year after an 18 year hiatus, If he keeps on with this quality, we're sure glad he's back! On the A side we have the pumping technicolor euphoria of 'Second Breath' awash in a glorious concoction of vintage synth sounds that you could imagine pumping your fist in the air to up at Panorama Bar. On the flip we have 'The Quest' hammering the message home, all adrenalised arpeggios, epic FM strings and 707 beats galore.

Review: Originally from Rome, Italy, Marco Antonio - the man behind the mask, or the MaSpaventi moniker - relocated to Amsterdam in 2007. A switch from one historic and stunning city to another, in doing so he landed himself smack bang in one of the most vibrant and pro-active electronic music communities and industries on the planet. Suffice to say, then, he's both in the right place and the wrong place to get noticed, with a healthy scene also meaning lots and lots of noise to shout over.
As Vicino Lontano proves, the man in question - who also teaches electronic music production software Ableton alongside other lessons at music schools, including Abbey Road Institute - isn't really up for shouting at all. His work speaks volumes and much louder than most anyway, through sci-fi-hued cosmic dance floor stuff, space age drone, off-centre Italo, and futuristic ambient of the highest possible order.

Exposition To Revolution (6:33)
Review: Speakwave is a lesser-spotted alias from Frenchman Dynarec, who has been exploring the outer edges of electro on various superb labels for years. Here he builds on his famously melodic sound across a trio of cosmic cuts. 'Cartographic Venture' kicks off and is a ten-minute odyssey with cold melodies and tinny drums that have a retro-future feel. Distant vocals add an extra edge to 'Coming On Monday' which has wispy sci-fi lines darting about over more cold drums. 'Exposition To Revolution' closes out with an introspective feel but a widescreen sound that is clean and has lovely spiraling skyward melodies.

Tulioxi - "Alpha Tremila" (5:42)
Review: Modern Italo can't possibly be delivered with more authority than the latest gem from Bordello A Parigi. A true sonic star-gazer, rich in analogue weight, "Roboxi" sees newcomer Tulioxi team up with the eminent Alexander Robotnick for a deliciously dramatic exercise in modular synth slapping. Elsewhere Tulioxi goes solo with a dreamy Vangelis-style cosmic romp "New Interstallar 2600" before switching up a more contemporary shuffle on the chugged out "Alpha Tremila".

Mystic Force (7:17)
Copacabana (6:39)
City Woods (6:59)
Karmic Souls (6:22)
Review: After a series of successful grooves on Bitter Moon, Matteo Pepe's Uabos makes himself known on the perennial Bordello A Parigi. It's the perfect fit: Pepe's uplifting analogue soul thrusts with a sense of positivity and musicality that tips a respectful hat to the legacy of Italo. The ageless consistency runs throughout smoothly as we're flung from the barbed flickers of acid on "Mystic Force" to the sci-fi imagery and emotion of "City Woods". Elsewhere "Karmic Souls" flexes back to 1990 with its rolling broken drums while "Copacabana" will have everyone reliving the 80s - even if they weren't even born that decade.
