Review: Long-time friends and semi-regular collaborators Lord Funk and Moar established the Nova Onda imprint two years ago in order to deliver occasional seven-inch singles featuring razor-sharp, on-point re-edits of Brazilian gems. The series has now reached volume three, with the Paris-based pair delivering two more essential, light-touch re-rubs. Our pick of the pair is flipside 'Nova Onda', a DJ-friendly tweak of a Clavinet and quelchy synth-sporting chunk of P-funk influenced Brazilian boogie rich in excitable raps, high-register male backing vocals and grooves so addictive they should come with a health warning. A-side 'Bela Menina', meanwhile, is a similarly tidy revision of what sounds like a boogie-era MPB number - think improvised male vocals, jazz guitar licks, huggable grooves and dreamy synth sounds.

Review: When it comes to funk-fuelled slabs of party-starting dancefloor delight, Agogo offshoot Resense is one of the most reliable sources around. They're at it again here, too, offering up serious slabs of heat from French twosome Lord Funk & Moar, and the previously unheard Gelatine Thugs. The former's A-side jam "Hip-Hop Control" is a hard-wired dancefloor hip-hop anthem in the making; all fat, floor-friendly beats, fluttering flutes and addictive Jurassic 5 vocals. Over on the flip, Gelatine Thugs cut and loop their way through "Do The Don't Stop", a cut-and-paste affair rich in heavyweight funk samples, bustling breaks, fiery horn stabs and blink-and-you-miss-it vocal snippets.

Review: The 45 Loves crew brings more prime dance floor heat here with a double hip hop single that drips with classic references. The first side, 'G', has boss rhymes from a pair of MCs and some lush backing vocals that add the velvet, while big trumpets and deep cut beats provide the groove. On the flip, things get more sweet and laid back, with a rolling beat riding up and down beneath nice Rhodes chords, lush strings and smooth female flow that cannot fail to bring the good times.

Review: Moan is back with more of his cherry picked beats for this small but perfectly formed 7". Heavyweights Busta Rhymes and LL Cool J feature on each side, with funky, soul infused beats that, in the case of the a-side, you will recognise from Keni Burke's heart-melting late night groover 'Risin To The Top'. On the flip, the 'momma said knock you out' chorus is rolled over big sax lines and hip swinging claps. These are playful and party starting, but smartly executed mash ups ready to detonate and club.

Review: Following their launch with Jay Airiness in May, super-limited French edit imprint return with two more juiced up feel-gooders. This time fellow Frenchman MOAR takes the lead with two untitled hip-hop edits of the funkiest order. "B" takes us for a run up Sugarhill on a groove made of salubrious sub bass, dubby horns and vocal clips while "BB" takes Nas into pure electro boogie territory with incredible results. Review: French producer Moar has a fine track record when it comes to delivering dancefloor-friendly blends of funk, soul and hip-hop, sometimes incorporating elements of classic cuts or nods towards jazz-funk. On this seven-inch single, he moves the dial a little musically, looking towards deep house for inspiration - at least on A-side 'I', where he peppers a delicious peak-time house groove with dubbed-out samples seemingly mined from a vibraphone-sporting late 1970s soul jam. Over on the flip, 'II' is a more straight-up, sing-along house revision of Jocelyn Brown classic 'Somebody Else's Guy'. It's rather good all told, with Moar subtly beefing up and reworking a classic whilst retaining many of the song's most-loved features.

Review: When it comes to crafting party-starting joints featuring classic hip-hop and R&B vocals, few producers can match the output of Gallic rework fiend Jerome Potin AKA Moar. He's in prime form on this ultra-limited "45" too. A-side 'H' crafts a rolling, 4/4 hip-hop tempo beats out of some classic disco licks and then adds Ol' Dirty Bastard and Kelis' vocals from one of the biggest hip-hop hits of 1999. It's a simple idea, brilliantly executed. Flipside 'HH' is equally as funky and accessible, with cut-up edit effects, rubbery slap-bass sounds, jangling acoustic guitar chords, warming synths and the lead vocal from a much-loved R&B jam. Tons of fun!

'L' is first up and is tighter than a tight thing with its funky breaks and explosive vocals over golden chords and withering cosmic melodies. Its next release comes from Jerome Potin aka Moar; producer, remixer, DJ and A&R at the Trad Vibe label from Nantes, who serves up some low-slung grooves on the Funky Party two-tracker. On side A, you've got the late-night boogie-down vibe of 'J', and the long hot sexy summer nights continue over on the flip with the funked-up vocal disco house heater 'JJ'.

Review: Two perfect party starters from the world of funky disco. Moar is behind the classy edits on the 45 Loves label and first up is the low-slung and steamy funky sleaze of 'O' with its neat guitar riffs and hip-swinging claps. The buttery smooth vocal is the perfect icing on the cake. Flip it over and you will find a stone cold classic that is pure bait for dancers. 'OO' is a neat, tight and funky jam popularised by a classic ad from years gone by and it still sounds super fresh with its noodling bass and wet claps, hooky vocals and warm chords.

Review: Moar is an alias from French DJ and producer Jerome Potin, who has been gifting us groove-laden edit gear and his own original productions for decades now. His commitment to funk can never be in doubt, and so it goes on this drop for his 45 Loves label. It's a more recent venture which has carried a vast array of edits from the man's archives, championing less obvious grooves from hidden corners of Afrobeat, high life and elsewhere. The A-side offering on here is a slickly looped up strutter with a little filter house flair, while the B-side is a smoky, submerged affair for those subtler moments in a party.

Review: The Funky Saturday label is an intermittent concern associated with the club night of the same name, France's longest-running funk monthly no less! Some five years after the label launched with an 1" of edits from resident DJ Pharoah, it's back for more on this 7" funker featuring him and fellow selector Moar. Lead track "Gimme Some" feels wedged in that warm spot between latter day funk and early forms of disco (check those Philly horns) and is blessed by a killer vocal. Whilst "Get Down" leans on a '80s boogie funk vibe. If you've not attended a Funky Saturday dance, this 7" acts as a fairly good reflection of what to expect.
