Review: Eddie Richards' vaults are surely some of the best there can be for tech house heads. The Brit was there on the ground, helping to shape the earliest incarnations of the newly emerging genre back in the 90s and early 00s and few have bettered it since. Review: Oslo-based Boring Crew Records launches its catalogue with a six-track split featuring Anders Hajem and Henrik Villard. Hajem opens with 'Oasen', a slow-building chugger built from dark low-end and minimal phrasing. 'Praerien' pushes further into low-slung territory, layering tension through repetition and restraint. Perkules strips 'Oasen' back into an even drier mix, swapping atmosphere for sub-heavy functionality. On the B-side, Villard's 'Cowgirl' cuts in sharply with rough drums and a clipped vocal texture. 'Woodfall Temple' takes a different route i slightly swung, more percussive and bordering on meditative without losing focus. Cooper Saver's remix of the same track lifts the tempo and adds layered synth work that edges toward trance but never fully breaks format. The sequencing holds together well with contrasting versions that avoid redundancy i a clear and well-measured first release from the label, with enough variation to keep future output open-ended.

Review: Proper scratch-itching 12" business via Portuguese minimal outfit Cloudbeats. Velvet Velour (Liam Dodds) serves as visiting dance tutor, topping up a fortuitous four years so far under the moniker, and buoyed by such disc dissenters as Butter Side Up, Sonido Chido and Nuances De Nuit. 'Tempo' is a record-scratching, hi speed garage satisfier, the title track for which flaunts a rather brave early tempo slowdown to die for. As the record goes on we hear various love bugging, paralinguistic vocal sounds - hums, breaths, giggles, "uh-huh" and"yes" samples - as though to mirror what we were already thinking about the record. We hear extra convective sound bubbles blown on the B1 'What Is That?', locking down a bathtime garage sound universe that is entirely its own.

Potassium nitrate fills out the uncontained dancefloor in a flash, as 'Smokescreen' moves through rapid-sequenced sci-fi sounds and low-end lurch; 'Pearl Beach' fires on the laser machine, coming as a zoetrope of slick, tech-tinted percussion and flickery pads. Review: Dubfound’s return is tightly coiled and quietly hallucinatory, tracing crisp patterns through fogged rhythm. ‘Coocooz’ jitters with nervous energy, all micro-detail and negative space, while ‘Feef’ drips in slippery percussion and flattened bass throb. ‘Low’ works a more reduced hypnosis — less hook, more repetition — but it’s the Zendid remix that lands hardest, pulling warm subs and twitchy delay into a loose-limbed swing. As ever with VRNT, the mood sits somewhere between Romanian reduction and Pacific Northwest psychedelia with a vinyl-only tactility that deepens the slipstream. Now based in Moldova, Dubfound has long operated just outside the minimal mainstream, building out a catalogue on labels like Sleep Is Commercial, Nervmusic and Rawax. His own imprints — Swoon, Nurum and Zimotik — favour analogue feel and no-frills groove, often bordering on the abstract. This release fits that mould: heads-down, refined and deceptively emotional in its restraint.

Spain’s Oven Sound are now on their third EP, pin-rolling and topping off an early spate of releases intended to document the emerging sounds of the label’s local Valencia scene. Taking up the A is newcomer TSO with ‘Inject’ and 2024 solo signee Sueezo with ‘Oneiric Pace'; the latter's ‘Blasphemy’ EP we also much enjoyed last year. Both tracks serve a cunning introduction, with injured acids and wily perc movements down below: it’s only improved upon by Varis’ ‘T4’, which weirdens things to stuttery, vocal-fractious proportions, while N&O’s ‘Moonwalk Talks’ is the obscurest of the lot, never settling beyond its structurally intense support of pithy drums and off-beam nanopunk bloops.

Review: Hours on the Fabric floor under Villalobos’s spell steered UK-based Bowyer toward a sound rooted in groove, subtlety and hypnosis. That fascination filters through on this first entry in his new Contraptions series—a sub-label built for oddball, finely wrought rhythm experiments. ‘Onithopter’ staggers forward with slurred modulation and lurching FX as if its groove is learning to walk while ‘Expresso Espress’ channels percussive mania through caffeinated bounce and twitchy micro-detail. The B-side goes deeper: ‘Onspiredd Moo’ flattens broken textures into a humid low-end smear while ‘Follow The Clues’ unfurls as a glitched detective theme for the late-night heads. Inventive but floor-conscious, it captures a producer bending minimal house into woozy, crooked new shapes, all held together by taut percussion.

Review: After years of exploration and experimentation, a new wave of artists from the Andes is now gaining some deserved global recognition. One such artist is Guillermo aka Existencia Pasajera, whose work has been shaped in southern Chile and so smartly reflects the region's newly emerging creative depth. This new release captures his fluid, expressive keyboard style and opens with the trippy and psychedelic loops of 'Haunted House' before 'The Brujo' gets more dark and menacing. The EP also features a remix by Minus legend Magda. Her label debut blends acid, stripped back rhythm and heady grooves, while closing the release is Map.ache of the Giegling collective, whose minimalist approach offers a meditative counterpoint.

Review: Rhadoo has long been in a class of his own when it comes to crafting intricately detailed minimal. Despite doing so for decades, he still finds freshness in his particular milieu, as he does again here on Secret Society, teaming up with multi-discipliniary artist and sound wizard Traian Chereches under the RH.CHER moniker. The cerebral 'Gwen' beings with liquid synths and gloopy sounds, dry hits and kicks and vocal swirls that infuse the whole thing with eerie soul. Giegling main man Edward brings a little more low-end heft to his remix, then 'Zero' gets more wobbly and busy with hiccuping sounds, swaggering drum rhythms and icy hi-hats all sure to sound huge at DC10 this summer. Cabanne remixes with a deft touch that keeps the silky minimal flowing going but with more edge.

Review: Sub Basics's Temple Of Sound is back with new music from Henry Greenleaf who appears under his new moniker, Greenteeth. It is a project he is clearly using to cook up smart back room minimal sounds going off this evidence: 'Loxton' is a slow motion and prowling groove but one with deep, menacing bass and nice louche percussion. 'Jungle Love' is another subversive sound with a snaking rhythm and dubby low ends, dusty hi hats and late night mischief. Last of, 'On & On & On' plays out over all of the flipside with shuffling drums that are light and airy and topped with wispy drones. It's delightfully hypnotic.

From opening piano house illuminations ('It's Too Dark'), bringing a vocal sample-heavy, Strictly Rhythm steeze, through to 'It's Over', a baritone jackin' soul uplifter of a bittersweet tonality, we're impressed from the jump. The B brings 'I Found You', an ecstatic piano cascade of synthetic choice, and 'See Thru', a watery glam-funk-disco hosedown with a slight, prodding French touch.

Review: This low-key repress offers a clean update of a record long out of circulation, with three deep cuts newly edited and remastered for 45 RPM. 'Memorandum', previously heard at Giegling events, opens with slow-moving pads and a narrow rhythmic range, relying on subtle modulation rather than arrangement shifts. 'Semper' continues with more drive i a stripped-back exercise in low-end pulse and restraint, built around clipped percussion and minimal harmonic information. The B-side features the edit of 'Mountain021.1', a long-circulating favourite that trades in delay-heavy loops and soft saturation, keeping the groove linear and open-ended. The new master preserves the original's softness without dulling its detail. It's not flashy, but it's durable i functional material that wears its age lightly.

Review: Acid tests, in a scientific context, refer to metallurgic processes whereby the chemical composition of metals are analysed in order to determine their makeup. We can't place exactly when the term was co-opted by artists of the acid techno movement, but we can certainly attest to this acid test's besting of several other lesser litmuses in the micro-genre. ITWS have found a gem in Ilario Liburni, a mainstay of the Italian audio-alchemic underground: 'I Don't Tip' and 'The Acid Test' provide twin minimal acid, with psychedelic ad-libs sure to make even Timothy Leary blush, while isotopes from TIJN and The Wizzard heighten the base compounds' corrosive intensities. A well assayed assault on the ears, well suited for those hazarding another lysergic dabble.

Review: You can hear the years in this one. ‘Village Whispers’ unfurls with the soft hiss of tape and misted chord echoes, each phrase placed with the care of someone who’s spent a lifetime listening for silence to answer back. ‘Noble Booth’ is heavier, full of low-end weight and time-stretched decay — a memory half-recalled through fogged glass. Gubatz, who once conjured trance in rural North Germany and later acid on Cologne’s fringes, returns here to dub techno not as genre but as method — patient, porous, ambient by instinct. These aren’t tracks so much as settings: rooms that hold the ghost of movement, built for moments when nothing needs to happen.

Review: Romanian producer BRYZ returns with three immersive cuts for Yecad, a label that's steadily positioning itself among minimal's most reliable. A fixture in Bucharest's underground, BRYZ has released on Tzinah, Esente and Storytellers, and here he leans into his signature hypnotic detail. 'Arcane' sets the tone on the A-side: tight, swung drums guide a stream of hazy pads, fragmented voices, and dubby trails. 'Calida' flips the mood slightly-more tactile and groove-led, it centres on a burbling synth motif and deft guitar flicks, making space for a subtly rising arrangement. Closing track 'Iridian' deepens things once again, layering panned percussion and flickering synth work over a sleek bassline. It's heady, club-ready minimalism, but with a welcome softness-a producer dialled into his zone.

Review: Newcastle-born producer Edmondson delivers another understated gem on Noire & Blanche, weaving together dreamlike house textures with a sharp sense of mood and place. 'Ladywell Limon' opens with buoyant chords and rolling percussion, evoking hazy South London mornings, while 'Every Night I Dream of Catching Trains' drifts through a fog of breakbeats and dubbed-out pads. His ear for atmosphere is matched by a tight control of rhythm - never overplaying, always gliding. 'Frutiger Aero' is the standout, built on a slippery bassline that harks back to early 00s minimal, before giving way to the silken melancholy of 'Azura', which features a ghostly spoken vocal from Mahyar Rahmantalab Vaghei. Closer 'Juno's Theme' brings the EP full circle, all hushed detail and warm reverb. There's nothing flashy here - just five tracks of deeply confident, soft-spoken house music that rewards repeated listens and confirms Edmondson's place in the new UK deep set.

Review: UK producer Wodda assembles four speed garage and house hybrids that reflect a slow-burning evolution in his sound. 'Bang to the Beat of This' opens with filtered sirens and detuned chords, cutting into a tough, swung rhythm that leans more peak-time than previous outings. 'I'll Be Careful' switches pace with a more upbeat palette: bright chord stabs, clipped vocal chops and a rolling low-end that nods clearly to early 2000s UKG. On the flip, 'Welcome to the Future' maintains the same rhythmic density but strips back the melodic detail, focusing on percussive drive and stabbing bass pressure. 'Santa Cruz' closes the set on a looser, more playful note i 90s-referencing synth lines sit above swung drums and a rounded, slightly overdriven bassline. The sequencing shows range without stretching too far and the mixdown keeps things functional without feeling raw. A direct and well-balanced outing from a producer who's clearly refining his tools.

Review: In 2003, deep in Croydon's Online Studios, the roots of proper tech house - we said *proper* tech house - were spreading underground. It was here that Evasive label head Rob joined forces with Simon Copleston, aka. Iteration X, for a fresh collaboration under the new alias Rob & Si. The project followed the underground momentum built by Iteration X's earlier 'Timecheck / Liquid Logic' EP, and merged the individual styles of both into a unified, forward-pulsing, projectile sound. The result was 'Roll One Up / Zebras', the 2003 two-tracker reminiscent of the sultry out-breaths characterising much of the 2-step garage that would emerge in parallel at the time. 'Zebraz' is an extra-special dubbing; an aposematic m(s)onochrome moving through various echos, stabs and what sound like field recordings of startled wildlife.

Review: ATEQ and Samuel Rohrer's latest collaboration delves into avant-garde jazz and ambient music and again shows they have great studio versatility. The EP opens with 'Tune Analysis' where delicate sonic elements come together like falling snowflakes. 'Vuh' transitions into percussive sounds and allows them to take centre stage. On the B-side, the percussion evolve into a more structured rhythm and create a meditative, incantatory atmosphere. The final track elegantly synthesises these exploration and brings the EP to a refined conclusion that both makes you think but also want to move.

Review: Interweaved yields the first volume of a new series curated by Brawther and one that underlines its credentials as an outlet for fresh new underground talent. Three producers here - Frederik Anthony, Mahar, and ICTV - were finalists in the 2023 "Minimal" Producer Challenge judged by Cassy, Losoul and Daniel Paul. Anthony opens with 'Interiddim', a lithe broken beat here through with warm chords. Mahar's 'Relaxed' is a silky and minimal dub tech cut and Omar Fayyad's 'A Mutual Thing' offers trippy late-night charm. Finally, ICTV's 'Oracle Night' is also deep and dubby but a little more menacing.

Review: Sometime Trauma Tribe and Spy vs Spy member Christian "Chris" Lloris is now two decades into his production career, though remarkably it has been 12 years since he last released a solo EP on vinyl. 'Echo Ridge', which also marks his debut on Lisbon label Satya, is therefore a long-awaited return to wax. He begins in confident mood with 'Ministrone', a fine fusion of lolloping tech-house grooves, spacey electronics and deep house flourishes, before delivering a chunkier and more bass-heavy slab of trippy tech-house with oddball samples aplenty ('Echo Ridge'). Over on side B, 'Mod Squad' is smooth, squelchy, quietly funky and delightfully off-kilter, while 'Snares Don't Care' is a more hypnotic, spaced-out and bass-heavy affair that's perfect for those "locked in" early morning moments.

Review: Returning to Purple Print after contributing one to their second V/A, 'Dreaming In A Shell', Zenk links arms with Ted Amber for a new, formative four-track release. 'Nairobi Market' and its corresponding remix by Amber retread an apparent recent jaunt to Kenya, where a fantastical, mercantile mirage is said to have informed on the cyborg textures you hear here. 'Juicy Breakfast' takes and uses the dried viands bought on said market, amounting to a nice morning metal repast of nuts, bolts, and gluons: fatty acids, rivet potpourri, slippery background sound design. 'Memesis' titularly invokes the goddess of divine retribution but reduces her to an edible meme, as restless, posthuman vocalisations are heard to mutter and chirrup between snap-up beats.
