Review: What can be said about this CLASSIC slab from Steve Poindexter that hasn't been stated already? Cited by many as one of the most influential Chicago trax there ever was, especially those within Techno circles unsurprisingly, "Computer Madness" set the stage for a new wave of demented club tracks along them like the Gherkin Jerks n aw that. You know the script by now. Originally released on Muzique in 89, and licensed for reissue on the resurrected Dance Mania in 2013, you don't want to miss out on this timely repress of the classic Work That Mutha 12" !

  2. The Light (5:35)
  3. Thank U (5:58)
Review: Few deep house producers are quite as hot right now as Adesse Versions, whose lovingly executed bootleg reworks and original productions have proved hugely popular in recent times. Here, he pops up on Local Talk, providing more lushly produced deep house gems for discerning DJs. Opener "Wash My Soul" impresses from the off, with bold synth riffs and sparkling electronics building in intensity over a chunky groove. The saucer-eyed "The Light" is a touch deeper but no less immersive, with mangled vocal samples rubbing shoulders with swirling pads and twinkling pianos. Finally, he makes great use of a joyous, life-affirming vocal sample on the deliciously positive and upbeat "Thank U". It's arguably the pick of a very strong bunch.

Review: "Legwork 5 comes from Berlin-based bad boy Kenneth Scott. Tonight is a slow building affair with a heavy bass line that weaves it's way into your consciousness before opening up for all-out psychological warfare. On the flip the Legwork guys speed up the tempo and add steady drum work to give the main loop it's just deserts."

Review: Autoreply main man OCH is back, this time on Marc Romboy's Systematic with another sweet minimal house jam with sombre and dreamy keys, tight rhythm programming and catchy female vocal samples; everything you need really. The "Marc Romboy Roland Orchestra" gives the track more of a deep house vibe with its soft arpeggiated house chords and dreamy keys taking you on a nice journey. Finally the Baby Ford remix has a true master of the art give his midas touch for this restrained and bittersweet version.

  1. Just Livin'
  2. Dream Scape
  3. Union City Nights
  4. Rain
Review: There's a bountiful amount of chunkiness to be savoured on this prime reissue of classic Kerri Chandler, reaching back to '98 and the bastion of soul-enriched house music, Nervous Records, to deliver the kind of heat that has made Chandler one of the undisputed greats of the scene. "Just Livin'" positively oozes class with its wigged out synth lines, dense and clattering drums and unmistakable bump, while "Dream Scape" takes things in a softer direction buffeted along by a pumping beat while the melodies stay smooth and sweet on top. "Union City Nights" injects a little Latin passion into proceedings, and "Rain" is of course one of Chandler's most iconic moments, all shuffling hats, delicate chimes and soulful vox. A highly worthy reissue.

Review: The latest offering from Andrew 'Lovefingers' Hogge's perennially on-point ESP Institute is a pair of epic, melodic and futurist house journeys from the mysterious Damien Lynch. "The Heights" sounds like a cross between Ame and Kassem Mosse with its soaring arpeggios and captivating synth tapestries reminiscent of either artist which isn't a bad thing at all! On the flip "Safe House" is the real winner on here, getting a bit darker with more killer arpeggios and rich synth programming assisted by sturdy rhythm programming. This is the ultimate journey track which will have massive crossover appeal given the taste for such aesthetics at the present time.

  3. D-Knox - "Summer Beach Time" (8:03)
  4. Terrence Parker - "So Beautiful" (7:19)
Review: A second edition of the Various Artists Backpack EP, from French house label D3 Elements pulls together some key producers; Detroit soulful house star Terrence Parker is back once again, and joined by D-Knox, Dan Curtin and TechElectro. Curtin gets the ball rolling with "House Spirits," a summery, feel good house roller with trilling keys and organic chords all making for a jazzy vibe. Then comes a more synthetic and abstract cut, "Stars That Never Die", from TechElectro aka the fearsome American techno duo of Solid Gold Playaz, who also release as Dark Matrix. On the flip side, D-Knox aka Groove Man offers "Summer Beach Time," a cool as you like track with breezy chords, radiant pads and wooden sounding percussion flapping along next to the drums. Then it is down to Terrence Parker to close with the laid back, deep and soothing "So Beautiful," a sweet as you like house jam with magic chords and plenty of heart warming grooves.

Review: Boof! A real blast from the past with this latest reissue from Sueno Latino featuring none other than the Paradise, Agua, Derrick May and Winter versions! This is simply a 12" for everyone, ranging from sultry Balearica to heady, organic house and it's rather quite difficult to decide which version is the best one. Paradise is housey and floor-ready, the Agua version is spacey and complete with UR bird chirps, the Derrick May is obviously a percussive club destroyer, and the Winter cut is a mid-way between all four. To be totally honest, this is absolutely essential and you should just dive right in. Essential.

  2. Walking Thru The Sky (feat Ron Smith - Liberation mix)
Review: The roots of Sound Signature are revisited in fine style with the first of three essential Theo Parrish represses this week! Originally released back towards the tail end of 1998, Roots Revisited is Theo in full on percussion mode, perfectly balancing the rhythmic elements with his innate understanding of true soul and how to implement it. Lead track "Dan Ryan" is one of those deeply meditative Theo cuts that feels like it can probably seep into infinity without any danger of losing its charm, whilst the Liberation Mix of "Walking Through The Sky" will provide a bone of contention for the most feverish of Theo followers out there.

Review: Curle follow in the footsteps of the FIT Sounds imprint and reissue this brilliant Walt J number. Originally released back in 1997 on the Dow label, "Reborn" is one of those tracks that makes us wonder why Walt J hasn't been embraced on a wider scale; a classic slab of ahead of it's time Detroit house that dices up some seminal Mr Fingers over a relentlessly fast paced groove - so simple yet so effective! It subsequently licensed for release by Curle in 2010 along with a superb corrugated "Journey Towards Birth" remix from DJ QU and it's this edition that's been repressed for consumption.

Review: Emerging Irish talent Frawl serves up a release stocked up with some dusty, rusty house jams from the deeper spectrum such as on the opener "Smash Take" but soon delves into experimental techno territory of the slower kind on "Watkins" a grinding analogue workout reminiscent of Hakim Murphy's more recent work and finally "Treaty Beat" which returns to the sultry feelgood deepness of Midwest style house music. This guy has some serious potential!

  2. Dance Of The Drunken Drums
Review: Don't let this one go over yo head son! The final repress from Sound Signature HQ is an essential slab of late 90s Motor City deepness from Theo, presented once again for contemporary reassessment and sounding every bit as jaw dropping 14 years on. Dropping back in 1999, title cut "Overyohead" came to be regarded as a quintessential Theo Parrish track; strings incandescent with soul and lovingly off centre Rhodes riding those heavy drum arrangements towards a sweet piano infused crescendo. Face down, "Dance Of The Drunken Drums" is a prime example of Theo's own distinct brand of cavernous beatdown.

Review: Delusions Of Grandeur, easily one of the most consistent deep house labels to come out of the post-minimal era, returns with that guy we all love, Thatmanmonkz. Himself and Chicago's Khalil Anthony are remixed by the equally consistent Jimpster, who delivers the goods by laying down some utter tech house quality on "Take U 2 My House", while Detroit's Ge-ology takes on "Jus Anutha Wunna Deez", and comes out the other end with a murky, beat-heavy house monster that bumps so perfectly along. The originals are sexier, chunkier in the mix, and backed by some killer vocals, particularly "Take U 2 My House" - what a beaut! Recommended and tipped...

On the other side, Melanin is a bit darker with its flowing pads and acidic bassline, really personnal. Acieeed, like you might imagine is a pure acid jam in its most classical form. A fantastic EP we are proud of."

Review: Launched just over two years ago with a 12" from New Jackson, Dublin's Major Problems has developed into a nice vinyl platform for local production talent to shine on, and they've looked further afield too. Witness 12"s from the under-rated Compassion Crew and Seattle producer Simic. The first Major Problems release of 2016 throws down some hard currency from unknown quantity PiracN Debt$ whose I Like Your Industry 12" comes replete with a remix by The Boss From Moss Dj Sotofett. Fans of the lo-fi hardware jam school of contemporary house will be all over the original version that slams across the A-side but it's the blissed out Sotofett remix (which comes with "more cowbell" from Telephones) that has us grinning.

  2. Run Sa (Dimitri Walker live drums) (5:48)
Review: Sound Signature's latest missive comes from Byron The Aquarius, a former Onra collaborator best known for his dusty trips into MPC beat-making territory. Here, the Atlanta-based producer successfully turns his hand to dusty, soul-flecked deep house, peppering the bumpin' groove of "Aquarian Voyage" with a toasty bassline and twinkling Rhodes motifs. It's the kind of hazy, jazz-flecked deep house that Sound Signature has always done better than almost anyone else. Flipside "Run Sa", featuring the fluid and intoxicating playing of drummer Dmitri Walker, is even better, with warm chords draping themselves over snappy snares, hissing cymbals and killer fills.

Review: Sagats & Ludovico, a Venetian duo with ties to the Analogue Cops, present their debut release of raw hardware house recorded straight to tape with no digitisation. The rusty and pounding analogue rhythms of "Alphabetic" are complimented by some nice snarling acid leads while "Army" features jacking vocal samples and more dusty and syncopated rhythms. On the flip "Australia" hardly sounds like anything from a Baz Luhrmann film, with its funky jazz loops and furious rhythm sounding more like homeboy John Swing than anything else. Finally "Go Away" is definitely the darkest effort on here taking things dustier and rustier and downright dirtier on this proper lo-fi house jam. Tip!

Is one of the most prolific House producers since the late 90's. He knows how to build serious grooves and funky beats. His "Colorful target box" EP comes with 4 amazing tracks. Starting with the catchy and funky beats of "Destiny", followed by the hypnotic and powerful grooves of "Colorful target Box" and "Pink Sparkles" and finishing with a timeless downtempo/hip hop beat "Always Forever". A strong release by one of the hottest guys of the scene. A Must!

Lazy is a ready-to-go exercice, easy to spin and fresh house track in its most classical yet very personal form, Captured is an intense Detroit oriented synth jam and Dj Beats is a short drum track reminding of the beat of track 1. Review: Not An Animal return with their 2nd installment, this time from Ess O Ess (aka Chris Stoker and Jamie Blanco).

Their original offering, Cantillate, isn't an easy beast to identify, being equal parts Swamp-Rock and Techno.
Imagine you've stumbled across an ephedrine and moonshine fueled rave in a deep Louisiana bayoux in the year 3000, and you're close. Add an out-there vocal refrain, and you'll start to appreciate why this is a particularly distinct record.

Relocate said rave to a some kind of Space Ship hitting hyperspace, with photon torpedoes fully armed, and you'll suddenly find yourself with the first remix, as created by Ene Records owner Chida.

Continuing the hybrid vibes, the final remix as provided by man of the moment ""Suzanne Kraft"" (yes, man), takes a juxtaposed tropical techno (with added dub) approach to his interpretation.

The overall effect of all 3 mixes is a pleasingly schizophrenic release which drips with multiple personalities.

Review: Manchester's meandyou. collective take their time over releases, averaging just over a 12" per year. Here they kick off 2016 with another collaborative EP, full of drowsy deep house, crackling techno and tipsy, world-weary ambience. With label conspirator Herron otherwise engaged, it falls to Workshopper Even Tuell to kick things off with the slowly unfurling new age chords, blazed vocal samples and sparse-but-chunky deep house groove of "Boys Truth". Sul "Does It For Andy" on the creepy, discordant dark world ambient track of the same name, before Sensu brings back the beats on the hypnotic, experimental dubby techno shuffle of "Sigmon". Finally, Fabric lays back and lights something fragrant on the similarly dub techno influenced, metallic IDM-goes-ambient of "Pink Grid".

Review: Over the last few months, Chicago veteran Glenn Underground has been reissuing tracks originally featured on his deliciously jazzy, 2004 album Black Resurrection. With the exception of "Mental Black Resurrection" (featured on the Black Resurrection Part 1 12"), none have previously been released on wax. This fourth and (presumably) final part features two more deliciously deep, spiritual and percussive workouts. The A-side features a pleasingly loose, Nuyorican Soul style instrumental jam built around a wonderfully jazzy bassline and rich, twinkling keys. Flip for "Out Of Time", a breezily sweet and evocative vocal cut full of emotive vocals, Latin pianos and bouncy, nu-jazz era percussion.
