  3. Bass Raw Bass (Monsieur Cedric Rave mix) (6:41)
  4. Frutie Mango (Steve Frisco remix) (3:29)
Review: Monsieur Cedric's Serie Limited is back with some sexy house with a French touch, this time courtesy of Osaka based producer and DJ 99Letters who takes a break from releasing on his eponymous imprint. It is sombre and emotive deepness on offer here with dusty and smoky elements supported by glacial pads on the A side. On the flip things get a bit more hectic such as on the wild acid techno thump of "Bass Raw Bass (Monsieur Cedric Rave mix)" which is reminiscent of early nineties UK rave vibes but the Steve Frisco remix of "Fruity Mango" is an angular and disjointed remake with broken, rusty drum patterns soon getting a hip-hop groove happening behind its messy but captivating collage of samples.

  3. Betaville (Timothy J Fairplay remix) (6:43)
Review: Alvaro Cabana's Madrid based imprint (though mainly digitally formatted) has now made the jump to vinyl and boy are we happy. Charmingly named after his hometown (do check his reasoning on his Soundcloud; an interesting read) this label has some real potential, having released some great stuff by up and coming stars Jonathan Kusuma and Squarewave. It is now the turn of Canadian duo Jokers of The Scene who adopt the new alias A Jokers Bizarre for this particular outing. Leading the way is "Betaville", a soulful and emotive classic house jam in the vein of early Chicago/Detroit that clocks in at over 10 minutes. It is pretty epic. "Breakwater" goes for the more slo-mo nu-disco vibe and is just made for drifting, quite hypnotising. The remix by Timothy J Fairplay on the flip, is pretty sick too we must say!

Review: "Micronation is the Frank Agrario's new label. After some key releases on Internasjonal, Tom Tom Disco and Maxi Discs Frank decided to start his own vinyl label. Micronation is a declaration of independence, Frank makes his own rules, passports and stamps, while music is the currency. 02. Percussion, deep bases and Frank's trademark dubby dealys are all there. Bottin provides a killer rmx ready to destroy any dancefloor. Early support from Soul Clap, Jimpster, Munk, Swayzak, Mammarella and Thomas Von Party.""

  3. Ben Dean - "Track Three"
  4. Michael Scott - "Underdisc"
Review: "After 10 years away from vinyl, 3am Wax Vol.1 hails a return to 12' on the label, now in its 13th year. The EP features an all-3am regular artist cast, three making their debut on vinyl and one making a return to 12' after a 12 year gap. 3am boss Al Bradley opens the EP, while label regulars Carlo Gambino, Ben Dean and Michael Scott all return for the 12". With over 400 releases and remixes between the artists, the EP showcases in-house talent from the label - the emphasis on quality rather than names. Ranging from Berlin-influenced deepness through to raw analog acid house, the EP has been doing damage at label gigs throughout 2015 including Berlin, Ibiza, Copenhagen, New York, London & label-home Leeds, with plaudits and support also coming in from a wide range of DJs from the promo."

Review: Chicago's underground house hero and Vanguard Sound main man Amir Alexander appears next up on Windy City imprint Argot with The Butterfly EP, which is quite impressive we must say. A side track "Butterfly (The Monarch)" is one of those dark dancefloor drama tracks in the vein of legends like Carl Craig with its stern and cynical monologue backed by a brooding composition. Things get a bit fiercer on "Black Mass" though: this is dark and emotive techno soul done properly. On the flip it's also worth mentioning "Many False Prophets" equally as emotional and bittersweet where swirling and hypnotic pads distract you from an incredibly fierce 909 drum machine workout. Wicked stuff!

  1. Ce N'est Pas Bon (JD Twitch edit)
Review: Long term advocates of JD Twitch's selecting skills will be very happy to see the appearance of this 10" featuring the Optimo man's edit of Amadou & Mariam. Originally made back in 2008, this edit has been a staple of JD Twitch sets and was intended to be released as part of the third volume of the superb charity focused Autonomous Africa series that was issued earlier this year. Licensing issues put the kibosh on those plans, but with the edit having belatedly been granted permission Twitch elected to issue it as one off 10" instead of waiting for volume 4 in 2015. As with the best edits, Twitch's amendments to the original version of "Ce N'est Pas Bon" are subtle and understated, adding little rhythmic elements that make it easier to slip into a DJ set and hypnotise minds. All proceeds will once again go to the Mtandika mission in Tanzania.

Review: French producer Anaxander follows up great releases by legends Reggie Dokes and Kai Alce on new imprint People Of Earth. He's had a steady output in the last few years releasing on the likes of Local Talk, Dame Music and Tasteful Nudes to name but a few. "Chords & Theories" is delightfully dusty deep house with a swing fuelled rhythm, emotive chords and epic piano stabs. On the flip "Stay Another Day" is the kind of classic early 90's Chicago deep house that's so sincere you could have sworn it was a lost tape from the Prescription or Alleviated catalogue from way back when. Finally "Naked Truth" gets a bit more uptempo on this soulful deep techno jam with rich synth tapestries and syncopated rhythms. Tip!

  3. Party Track (Midnight In Malmousque mix) (6:21)
Review: Since his debut back in 2012, Anaxander has just kept on impressing with his personal touch to deep, teched-out house music. His travels have taken him to labels like Local Talk, Boe, Quintessentials, and now the wonderful Mondelisme Records for what is perhaps his biggest moment yet. "Party Track" is remixed by NDATL boss and all round house music don Kai Alce, who transforms this cut into a delightful deep house scorcher with a bouncy, feel-good approach. The B-side contains the more swanky, bass-heavy waves of "Turn Out", followed by Anaxander's own Midnight In Malmousque mix of "Party Track", a dirtier and more sleazy version than Alce's. Sick.

Review: For the first vinyl release on Sound & Object we are thrilled to have Chicago resident Area bring us the EP Forbidden Plateau. In Forbidden Plateau Area is able to create a mood of equal parts confident swagger and tentative emotion. Rich pads, loping piano melodies and robust rhythms swirl and mix to land somewhere between house and techno. The 3 original tracks - and a remix from Mikaere - create an EP that is full of space, details, bright edges and dark corners all framed by lively beats.

This new one for Hold Youth sees them throw down some quirky, loungey and microsampled grooves that roll deep such as on opener "Chauffage Central". Label boss Le Loup's remix next takes things even deeper (and definitely darker) on this after-hours suited effort. The flip sees a bunch of shorter tracks but they're straight to the point, like the funky disco loop of "Petite Ondee", the sexy deep house groove of "Air Conditionelle" and the tough, jackin' and down right boompty "Sub Tropicale".

Review: The French brat pack are back; Around7 and Joss Moog are a couple of Phil Weeks' proteges and they turn in some sweet disco edits here. They just so happen to own the label too. Around7's "Live At Fillmore" sounds so awesome; is it possibly a Moodymann/Norma Jean Bell edit? Moog's "I cant Say No" is some proper disco house deepness. On the flip, they've got some newcomers in the form of Paul Cut with "Heaven" a loopy soul-funk cut up and Hatelate with "The Boogie Show" which is pretty sweet, who did he sample on this one again? Reminiscent of "Working Nights" era Trus'me.

Review: The second release of the month from Arttu sees him draw again on classic house and techno influences. The title track draws on the reduced end of Chicago house, with frequency-shifting acid tones unraveling over pared back kettle-drums. "Wiggle Eyez" marks a change of tact and is similar to the release on Jack for Daze, with the Berlin artist drawing heavily on the raw sound of 90s techno to craft a relentless, grinding analogue workout. Closing track "X Ray Shit" is like an amalgamation of these two sounds; based on rattling drums and acid-soaked bleeps, it proves that Arttu is one of the most skillful modern interpreters of timeless music.

  4. Bad Chorus (4:14)
Review: After almost two years of hiatus under his own name, Britain's Mike Ash makes his comeback on Super Rhythm Trax with four lively and utterly dangerous slices of house psychedelia. "Unfrocking" is deeply old-school, and Ash manages to mix up plenty of summer-of-love-acid together with those vintage hardcore sort of breaks, and "The Fuzz" follows suit with another sludgy heap of 303 bottom-end. The flip moves one year ahead and onto "89's The Year", a flangered-out acid nugget all in rough and delicious analogue taste, leaving "Bad Chorus" to send us head-first into the swimming pool with its heart-pound of a beat and inimitable bassline. You know how they say that they don't make them like they used to? Forget that, this is the shit.

Review: This year marks two decades since Martin 'Atjazz' Iveson put out his first 12" single. That he continues to deliver high-grade, soul-flecked deep house is testament not only to his skills, but his staying power. With this EP, he had little to do but put his feet up, as Kaytronic and Peacey took it in turns to rework last year's "Fox Tooth". The former kicks things off, combining heavy analogue bass, tech-tinged beats (think classic Swag) and creepy, late night textures. Peacey takes a different approach, teasing out the inherent sweetness of Iveson' synth work on a bouncy revision that makes excellent use of an extended breakdown.

Review: Now very much a global concern, Dekmantel still remain strong to their local Amsterdam roots as evidenced on this new 12" from Awanto 3. Steven Van Hulle is arguably one of Dutch electronic music's unsung heroes, with a long history of production work dating back to time in Rednose Distrikt alongside Aardvarck and Kid Sublime. Van Hulle's been working as Awanto 3 for the past six years, racking up music for Rush Hour and Dekmantel. Fans of his work will recognise the 13 minute deep burning stomper "Pregnant", which originally featured as part of Dekmantel's 5 year anniversary compilation series. They've wisely revisited the track, giving it centre space on the A-side of this 12" with a fresh Awanto 3 cut, "Star Butchers", housed on the flip. Don't skip over the closing Daring Edit of "Star Butchers" either, it's a thing of beauty.

Review: Like many labels at this time of year, Banoffee Pies has decided to get into the Record Store Day spirit, delivering a limited edition, hand-stamped 10" featuring a trio of Afro-inspired cuts from their growing roster of artists. There's naturally much to admire, not least the deliciously bass-heavy "Simigwado (Eidt)" by Az, a heavy Afrobeat rework that gets the right balance between the restless throb of house music and the vibrancy of the producer's source material. Walter Ego impresses, too, with the cowbell-laden Highlife shuffle of "Eme Nenyo", while Philou Louzolo steals the show with the Clavinet-heavy Afro-disco goodness of his superb "Royal Booty Funk".

Review: Eli Escobar's Night People imprint is back, this time with Ricardo Baez; an Italian producer who has done stuff previously on Toy Tonics and Gomma. As soon as you listen to "Tribute To L" you'll realise just exactly who it's referring to when you hear 'that' bassline and overall vibe: a damn fine tribute we must say! He then throws down some tough and stomping acid house on "No One Man Owns House" with some more emotive elements working wonderfully, namely those hypnotising pads. On the flip Eli Escobar himself steps up for a remix of the first track, injecting some Brooklyn style loft party vibes into it which we were really diggin' and also throws in a handy "betapella" which has some real kick to it, have a listen yourself!

Review: Belfast pair Bicep are smart operators. Having previously doffed a cap to both Italian house and classic New Jersey garage, recent releases have seen them play around with a variety of rhythmic patterns and more advanced musical elements. They're at it again here on their latest outing for Aus. Opener "Just" is pleasingly cheery, with simple but addictive electronic melodies and sweeping chords nestling above a head-nodding, hip-hop influenced groove. "Celeste" is undeniably Balearic, with sun-kissed pianos, dreamy pads and drifting vocal samples stretching out over delay-laden, African-influenced percussion. Finally, they return to their rush-inducing best on "Back 2 U (Tranz Dub)", a loving fusion of vintage progressive house builds, winding melodies and mid '90s beats.

Review: Classic Chicago house from 1993 via Night Club Records on this nice re-issue (courtesy of Large Records) unearthing another important zeitgeist from the Windy City. "Men On Drums" sampled Submission's "the Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight" long before Cevin Fisher did. "I Need A track (How Dare U)" laid down the foundations for ghetto house and ballroom without even knowing it. "West Digital Plate 808" took influence from A Guy Called Gerald and 808 State more than it did of their hometown heroes Phuture, strangely enough. "Fresh Melody" took on a deeper vibe that could of made it on to Prescription or Cajual back in the day. Essential listening.

Review: Following impressive collaborative outings on Dirt Crew and their own Splendor & Squalor label, Brame and Hamo once again join forces, this time for Detroit Swindle's Heist Recordings. Predictably, there's genuine warmth throughout, as the duo showcases more tactile deep house compositions. Opener "Parish Rumours" sets the tone, lacing filter-clad female vocal samples and twinkling melodies over a compressed, cymbal-heavy groove. The filters once again come to the fore on the sweet, soul-sampling "Ghetto For You", while "Hotshot" delivers the kind of loose, hazy and jazz-flecked deep house jam - think hazy horns, tumbling chords, held-note strings and bluesy vocal cut-ups - that evokes images of humid days reclining on Adriatic terraces and Mediterranean cliff-tops.

Review: Hands up who's fantasized about an extra-large doner kebab with all the trimmings? Well, Irish duo Brame & Hamo certainly have. Ironically, "Kebab Dreams" is much tastier than your average late night takeaway, with eyes-closed Rhodes notes, hazy chords and sparkling synth motifs riding a bouncy and bumpy deep house groove. The sweetness continues on the slightly more driving "Cert City", where jazzy samples and a relentless bassline are expertly combined with restless, live-sounding house percussion. Finally, they up the tape hiss and Theo Parrish style jazz samples on "Retch Wretcheness", a swinging saunter through dusty deep house territory full of hooky stabs and fizzing cymbals.

  1. I Ain't Gonna Wait (edit)
  2. Infractions
  3. Words To A Nation
Review: This special release revisits classic Brothers' Vibe tunes, edits and a never before released on vinyl track. Kicking off proceedings is the 1989 gem "I Ain't Gonna Wait". An early Brothers' Vibe piece and massive underground anthem! Brothers' Vibe distinctive gritty style of groovy house takes us on a hypnotic journey into uncharted territory. Melody and percussion interchange amongst a framework of zippy synths and sinuous kicks. Released under the moniker Silent Rodgerz, the second track "Infractions" saw the light of day back in 2008 solely in digital format on a MixxRecords compilation. Low slung with an acid influence, the cut reveals a distinctly natural groove lead by the classic bassline. The final track is the definition of a house classic!! Featuring echoing words of the great Maya Angelou, "Words To a Nation" exudes a timeless quality, unveiling a masterpiece which stays firmly in your head...

  4. Where Has The Love Gone (7:34)
Review: Following hot twelves from Max McFerren, Bryan Kessler and Pedder Mannerfelt, Ultimate Hits has recruited cantankerous house jam maestro Willie Burns to produce its' latest EP. Burns predictably delivers, with jackin' electro/techno opener "Bang The Box" sounding like a ready-made dancefloor banger. "Got To Be" is deeper but no less potent, with soulful vocal snippets riding a bass-heavy groove, while "Checking Heart Rate" sees Burns successfully combine one of his favourite vintage house breakbeats with dreamy pianos and sweaty vocal stabs. Finally, he steps away from the dancefloor with "Where Has The Love Gone", a trippy, late night affair full of rumbling dub bass, soft-touch percussive hits, new age pan pipe melodies and head-in-the-clouds vocal samples.
