  4. Mutenoise - "Jazzve"
Review: All that jelly and no toast - like when you find a bomb tune that's unavailable on 12". The new sublabel of Smile for a While is exactly about this. Clubby House Music by well-established producers as well as from lesser-known guys. French guy Alex Agore opens the EP with the Lowtone remix of "What Did I Do" - cut-up Garage House to the maxx. Max Chapman from London delivers another belter; a bassline-driven organ House tune with a minimalistic but very effective set-up. Oleg Poliakov - aka SKAT and one of the guys behind Circus Company - comes up with a sublime but powerful Tech House tune, in the original sense of the genre name. "Jazzve" is a tune by Russian producer Mutenoise. It's maybe the most original, innovative tune on this EP. Full of surprises and cutting-edge elements - hard to compare to anything else around these days.

Review: Ladonia is a micronation proclaimed in 1996 by the artist Lars Vilks. In 1980, he began construction of two sculptures, Nimis and Arx in the Kullaberg nature reserve in north-west Skane, Sweden. t. Frank Agrario has given Ladonian citizenship this year and titled the label's second release to his new nation. The peaceful and deep nature that surrounds Nimis really impacted the sound. There is a certain deepnes that dominates the tracks, still the beats are funky as usual and percussion and dub fx work is an undeniable Frank Agrario's trademark.
The Rmx comes from his Majesty RICK WADE that sparkled the release with his magic Detroit's vibe, a masterpiece.
Note : Anthem is the first recording of Ladonia's national anthem known to be pressed on vinyl.

Review: Famously, Joey Anderson delivered the first 12" on Acid Test's experimentally minded offshoot, Avenue 66. That was Under The Cherry Moon, one of the lauded New Jersey producer's finest releases to date. Happily, Anderson's belated return to Avenue 66 is equally as impressive. There's much to admire throughout, from the rising and falling synthesizer refrains of "If One Cares, They Act Different", to the deep, mystical and wonderfully picturesque deep house thrills of B-side cut "Vase", which is undoubtedly one of Anderson's most beautiful tracks to date. The track in between, "Peace There", also impresses via metronomic kick drums, dreamy chords, and crystalline synthesizer melodies.

  4. Michael Kuntzman - "Mondane" (6:13)
Review: Larry Heard's infamous Alleviated Music has seen a revival as of late, with the legendary Chicago producer and DJ putting out a lot more music, and a lot more consistently. He's branched out enough to pick up two new, rising talents from the house world in Adam Arthur and Michael Kuntzman, both clearly very able to lay down some heavy gear for the dance floor. Adam Arthur's "Rogue Intent" is a driving, blissful stepper of an acid tune that could be looped on to infinity, and his "Fammenco" tune adds a different, moodier layer to the EP that is nonetheless fresh and instantly alluring. "Shutter" by Kuntzman manages to inject a wave of 80's paceman sounds to a rigid beat of tech-friendly house, while "Mondane" is pure Chicago madness thanks to its harsh, banging kick drums and warehouse sonics. Heavy and recommended, as you'd expect...

Review: Barcelona-based tech house heroes Anthony Middleton and Luca Saporito are back. This time for Damian Lazarus' esteemed Crosstown Rebels imprint with "In The (Last) Moment". The track is equally esoteric as it is atmospheric in the tradition of the label's new sound and perfect for drifting. The woozy, journey like aesthetic is only intensified by Georgia Lewis' hypnotising vocal efforts. On the lip we've got added dance floor drama and cerebral stimulus courtesy of the master himself Robag Wruhme; who as always turns in an emotive and bittersweet epic on "In The (Last) Moment (Robag Ponk Pramen NB remix)" complete with his trademarks: glitchy sound design, beautiful string arrangements and the usual Midas touch for pure deepness.

Review: Oakland's finest is back. Aybee returns on his always reliable Deepblak imprint to give us another dose of the real proper deep stuff! Just one side on this release from the man now in Berlin, but it's quality not quantity we say. "The Heart Of The Sun" is a raw and tunnelling cut with eerie synth melodies, a killer bassline and dark analogue drums giving this track its momentum and its edge! A fine taste of a long-mooted new Aybee album due on Deepblak in the coming months.

Review: Swiss master of all things deep, Bastian Volker is back for the eighth release on his always impressive Office imprint. Not just content with creating some lush music under the Baaz alias or redefining the dub techno sound as Eric Miller (like on his recent album Silhouettes for Sushitech this year), could he be delving into the world of hypnotic techno now also? Brilliant opener "Kraut House" starts the EP off in great form and is reminiscent of the tribal trance sounds of Refracted or Tozzy. On the flip, "Modual" is more like the Baaz we know; deep, dubby and emotive with a bumping baseline, smoky drum patterns and pitch shifted druggy vocals for added effect. Finally "Simple E" adds yet more variety to the release with this dusty and bittersweet slow burner that's perfect for drifting.

Review: It's been a little while since we heard from Beesmunt Soundsystem, whose previous singles for Soweso, Just Jack and Pets Recordings received a lot of critical attention. Happily, this outing for the hyped CHURCH label is arguably the strongest collection of tracks to date. Many will naturally be drawn to "Afterglow", where hazy, delay-laden riffs seemingly cascade down over a sparse, mid-tempo drum machine rhythm. There's a bonus ambient version, too, which is suitably sweet and dreamy. Elsewhere, "Opium" fuses psychedelic acid lines and jammed-out synth solos with a superbly loose and swinging rhythm track, while "First Timer" sees the Dutch duo try their hand at spacey electro. If it's bumpin' house you're after, Mosey's remix of that track should tickle your fancy.

Review: From the label: When trends in music can come and go in the blink of an eye, ten years is a long time to stay relevant, passionate and real on the frontline. From its roots in the Parisian club scene by way of its spiritual home at Fuse in Brussels and so on to the globe-trotting, multi-faceted entity that it is today, Lessizmore is living proof of how to do a decade right. The fundamental heartbeat of this European house and techno institution is the maverick music that its affiliated artists make. Of course what the label sounds like now is not necessarily what the label sounded like back in 2006, but it's telling that some of the original characters are still with the label to this day, while many are long time members of the LIZM family that have joined the ranks over the years. In piecing together this compilation, the idea from label founders Jessica Bossuyt and Pierre Noisiez was simply to represent where their brainchild is at right now, from guests at their events in the early days to more recent collaborators of all kinds. Kicking off the first EP, the finest slithers of percussion and whispers of icy soul weave their way into the sublime, sprawling concoction that Birdsmakingmachine delivers, shifting drum sounds across eleven minutes of delicate yet irresistible groove. Meanwhile on the B-side long time champion of future-minded dub techno Deadbeat creates something of an anthem for the label, turning out an energised workout laden with psychedelic swirls of delay and embellished with a catchy vocoder hook. Recent Lessizmore signing Louis McGuire delves into his lowslung MPC-powered bag of tricks and drops another crucial slab of swinging funk that finds the up and coming artist turning to a moodier sound palette customized for the deepest corners of the night.

  4. Masters At Work - "Dum Dum Cry" (Dum club version) (8:19)
Review: Big reissue action right here from the legendary Fourth Floor label out of NYC! This is puristic house material, and we have two cuts a piece from bog dogs Todd Terry and Masters At Work, spread across two sides of this essential 12". First Up, Terry appears with two monster tunes from 1988, the first is the inimitable and ever-sampled "A Day In The Life", followed by the equally monumental "Warlock" - both as deadly as they were when they first came out at the beginning of it all. Over on the B-side, the Masters lay down some utter truth thanks to the still revolutionary-sounding "Alright Alright", and the Dum club version of "Dum Dum City". This is absolute fire, and if it's not already in your collection then be ready for it to be in your DJ bag forever.

Review: Just over a year ago Phil Lauer teamed up with Fab Mammarella for the Italo-German disco delights of Black Spuma with Mark Barrott's International Feel label a perfect home for their debut transmission together. Thankfully it was no one-off as Intl Feel find some room in a busy 2016 schedule for some fresh Black Spuma produce from the pair with this Onda four-tracker. Fans of crystalline, glistening house music will be in raptures when they hear lead cut "Metallo Nero" which brings to mind Max D's LARJ classic "Polo (Extended Version)", albeit doused in Balearic dust. From here the duo gently amble through mid-tempo Wally Badarou does Beat Down Acid on "Hundred Fingers Man," before a notable upturn in tempo for the effervescent house bliss of the title track. To close, Black Spuma introduce some breakbeats into the mix for the delicious off-kilter "Gabula" which should appeal to fans of Hashman Deejay.

Review: We can't be 100% sure but Bluntman Deejay may be a close affiliate of Moodhut and Future Times alumnus Hashman Deejay - brother from another mother perhaps? Here the Bluntman debuts on ace Glaswegian label All Caps with two trips into deep, melodic, off-kilter house territory that come with an unspoken guarantee to unlock your water chakra. There's a slightly foreboding feel to the delay-laden pianos, booming bottom end and dub-house shuffle of "Esoteric Communion". "Astat (Real)" is a little more picturesque, with chiming synth melodies and spacey organs riding a loose, tumbling, off-kilter analogue rhythm. In truth, both tracks are excellent, offering proof that the Bluntman be every bit as talented as the Hashman Deejay.

Review: Previously spotted on Lowtec's revived Out To Lunch label, James Booth's wayward variety of house music has been largely released through the 100%Silk label. That is certainly not a bad thing - we love the LA-based label - but it's refreshing to see him land on London's own Church imprint. The promoters-turned-label-owners have got a good thing going, and it's equally exciting to see them broadening their reach by landing some more homegrown talent. This four-tracker is deep and effective for floor use: "Silver Blaze" is a placid slice of chord-heavy house, ""Soup" stretches the percussion and lands on a two-step territory, "Vanish" goes all Chicago on us, and "Why Would You Not" goes deeper and murkier than any other track on this fine house excursion.

From its roots in the Parisian club scene by way of its spiritual home at Fuse in Brussels and so on to the globe-trotting, multi-faceted entity that it is today, Lessizmore is living proof of how to do a decade right. Borrowed Identity kicks off the second EP with a smoothly rendered vision of contemporary deep house housing a poignant message at its core, while San Proper follows it up with his irrepressible personality positively leaping out of the track in a fit of live instrumentation and unbridled psychedelic funk. Dave Aju too is an artist it's hard to mistake, his cool and deadly vocals sitting amongst a sleek club construction that ranks among his most DJ-ready tracks to date. Review: The man behind the track that Move D proclaimed "owned the dome at freerotation" , returns with 3 new tracks of deep machine grooves, his first release since 2013's Analogue Mapping. "Frey'd" is built around a synth patch stumbled upon whilst conducting a test on one of bovill's machines with rennouned Synth engineer Frey Smith. Opening with playful ,bubbling analogue tones and nostelgic pads, before characteristic basslines, percussion and 303 lines join in, ending on a spaced out contemplative groove . " L.A.T. " is a more stripped down track, which ebbs and flows around subtle builds, tweeks, and delays, perfect for the deeper late night dancefloor. Closing the ep is Golden burn, the deepest and most dubbed out of the 3 tracks, sprinkled with emotive keys, and underpinned by distinctive bass lines.

Review: Pepe Bradock is back! Some ten months on from the release of his inspired Le Fada EP, the veteran Parisian beat-maker delivers another sublime, six-track assault on the senses. The mood is set by opener "Yazuke", a pitch-black fusion of fizzing jazz drums, macabre electronics and razor sharp acid lines, before he struts off on a more positive, wide-eyed tip on the bumpy "Grodno". Elsewhere, you'll find some exotic and intoxicating ambience in the shape of "Sainte-Maure", a glitchy, cut-up take on U.S house (the brilliantly bonkers "Underground Monogahela"), an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink rinse out ("Boom Boom Crash", which sounds like Basement Jaxx's "Fly Life" on acid), and a beat-less, late night trip ("1755").

Review: One of our favourite labels Millions Of Moments pays a fitting tribute to a true Detroit great in the dearly departed Aaron Carl. His passing late last year was a truly sad end to a glorious career and one of his finest moments in "Wallshaker" is revisited here. Massively rare upon original release back in 1997, Millions Of Moments have already reissued "Wallshaker" and it's accompanying and quite hypnotic "Midnite Dub" back in 2007 but here they go the extra mile, enlisting Sven Weismann to add his own touch to the track. Spread across the B Side, Weismann delivers a superlative remix which transforms the rattling original into a lavishly deep and dubby excursion filled with delightful orchestral flourishes. Extra special sleeve packaging and all profits going to the Carl family just add reasons to indulge in this special release. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Review: For this expansive double-pack of reworks of tracks from Cassy's debut album, Donna, Will Saul has assembled an impressive cast of remixers. First out of the blocks is Marcel Dettmann, whose hypnotic, late night interpretation of "Move" fixes dubbed-out organ riffs to a bustling techno rhythm. Ron Bacardi's version of "All I Do" sounds like a cross between Twilo-era tribal house, and bumpin' old skool U.S garage, while Radio Slave is at his druggy, early morning best in stretching out "Keep Trying" (first on the club-friendly "Feel Raw" mix, and later on the K-hole embracing, pitched-down "100 Reasons Remix"). If that wasn't enough to set the pulse racing, there's also a brilliantly melodious and emotion-rich remix of "Feel" from Yoruba Soul.

Review: Italian label Imprints are back with another various artists EP showcasing some of the finest new talents emerging in minimal house. Starting out with fellow Italian in Berlin, the Libertine/Slow Life affiliated Saverio Celestri with the bouncy and bumping "Mental Box" which powers away with some subtle electro flourishes in the mix. Frankfurt up and comers Cedric Dekowski & Felix Reifenberg deliver more signature micro house on the quirky and glitched out "SDF". On the flip we've got more comeback material by UK legend Lee Renacre aka 100 Hz with his 303 driven electro jam "MASS" and then another unclassic from short lived German duo Convergence Club with the absolutely lush deep house of "Window Shopping".

Review: Two years on from his last appearance on Full Pupp, Even 'CHMMR' Brenden returns to Prins Thomas' label with three more distinctive chunks of Scandolearic disco/house fusion. The undoubted centrepiece is title track "Media Vision", a thrillingly sparse and analogue-sounding epic built around slo-mo drum machine rhythms, thick acid bass, lilting melodies, stretched-out percussion sections, and occasional ghostly synths. Those looking for more upbeat, peaktime fare are well catered for on the A-side, both by the grunting, warehouse-friendly synth-house pump of druggy opener "Understand", and the cheery, piano-sporting bounce of midtempo anthem "User".

Review: Two years on from his lauded debut 12" (the excellent Pitch Rider EP), Comeme crewmember Christian Schafer returns with a typically vibrant, floor-friendly follow-up. It's an undeniably eclectic set, with typical Comeme workouts (see the pulsating bass wobble, snappy drum machine hits and woozy new wave melodies of the title track and delay-laden, sample-heavy, off-kilter techno trip "Under The River") being joined by a pair of cheerily summery cuts. There's opener "Give It Up", a rush-inducing chunk of loved-up deep house wooziness, and "Jonnie Sda", where wild, jammed-out synthesizer motifs mingle with cheap-but-powerful drum machine hits and bubbly melodies.

  4. Tentacles Of The Deep
Review: Bucketround presents the eighth EP written and produced by Manuel Costela, 3 tracks and the remix of Tominori Hosoya (Japan) inspired by Japanese Middle Ages, when mythological monsters wake up from the Deep.

"Omibozu (Original version)" is a trip of rhythms and percussion in the middle of a survival battle in the purest sound of American deep house style. "When Craken Show Up" provides us with a delicious fragrance and textures from the reefs, mixing feelings with the voice of the composer. "Omibozu remix" is the powerful touch of Tominori Hosoya "Tomi Chair" (HQ Pressing-Japan) and the dance floor face of the monster directly from Pacific ocean. "Tentacles Of The Deep" is the relaxing movement of the EP, from the caves of the darkness and naughty voices of Andrea Rocha to enter the depths mixed with Manuel Costela's piano.

Review: After a short break in releases, Plastik People are back with the third installment of the Various People. We see label owner Marc Cotterell up first with his slice of 90's house music, incorperating slick grooves and catchy cut up vocals, along side mark on side A, a new addition to the Plastik People family from london, Charles Caliber, who graces the EP with a stunning soulful house groove called Moving On. On the flip side NYC artist Doug Gomez brings us a classic sounding, deep head nodding track which was originally releases on Frole records and we loved it so much that we decided it needed a vinyl releases, to round off the release, we are very pleased to have Mikki Funk back on Plastik People. he delivers us a splendid cut of UK garage, Mikki Funk has also previously released on RM Records and Music IS Love.

  3. Crook-Ed
Review: Keeping up their regular and on point release schedule, French outlet D3 Elements now looks to a DJ and producer from the southside of Chicago. Ellery Cowles has been making unique house sounds since the mid 1990s as well as being a respected DJ who is revered across the States. His music has come solo as well as in collaboration with the legendary likes of Ron Maney, Roy Davis Jr and Brian Harden and Cowles has released on labels like DaFunk, Hybrid and Hizou Deep Rooted Music.

Up first is Inner Force, a widescreen house tune that exists on the outer edges of our galaxy. Lush pads bring a 90s feel as twinkling keys and cosmic melodies expand out in all directions. The mid tempo drums are groovy and warm and the result is truly spiritual. Shell then flips the script and is a slick acid tune where a lone 303 rips away above a rubbery drum and crisp clap. It's zoned out and hypnotic and will lock in any floor. On the flipside, Crook-Ed gets back to a cerebral headspace with gorgeous and golden pads and sonorous, rich chords that are soft yet urgent. Distant acid adds texture to what is otherwise a super smooth and serene deep house cut direct from the heart of Chicago.
