Review: Death Waltz has pulled of something of a coup here, obtaining permission to release Angelo Badalamenti's score from David Lynch's controversial Twin Peaks movie spin-off, Fire Walk With Me. The film was panned by both critics and fans of the original TV series on its 1992 release, but has since becoming something of a cult classic. Badalamenti's fine score is as atmospheric and beguiling as his work on the original Twin Peaks series, and contains a number of tracks that rework musical themes from that acclaimed production. Death Waltz has gone all out on the production, too, housing heavyweight, cherry-splattered vinyl in a luscious gatefold sleeve.

Review: Six Organs of Admittance is the main project of the American guitarist Ben Chasny. His music is widely considered new folk but he operates differently to most, infusing various sounds like chimes, percussive elements and layered drones and here features nine new songs that explore a strictly more soundtrack approach than anything he's done before. The result is riveting, with tracks like 'Summer's Last Rays' busy tonal compositions where multiple instruments and percussion blend together to a triumphant crescendo. Everyone who heard the first instalment in this series fell head over heels in love not just with the music itself, but the yarn it comes with. JCR was a sub-label of D-Vine Spirituals, both run and founded by none-other than the Baptist Pastor Juan D. Shipp. A radio DJ, Air Force veteran and major figure in the Memphis gospel and soul scenes, he set to trying to address the sound quality differences between the major sacred soul labels and smaller local operations. In doing so, the boss met Sun Records artist Clyde Leoppard, and found his Tempo Recording Studio. Together they would record more than 75 acts there, over 13 years. Those tapes would then be found, decades later, in a shack outside Olive Branch, Mississippi.170 or so reels pored over and restored to create this album, and its predecessor.
