Review: Spurred on by the need for fierce rhythms and bassline pressure, the past 2 years has seen the fringes of grime, electro and dubstep converging to give forward-thinking DJs a vicious, mutant new sound that's intricate, spacious and colossally bass-heavy. This EP unites these different schools of thought once and for all, over 4 tracks of surgically precise, monstrous bass-weapons, honed to perfection by ScanOne.

Review: Two years in the making, "Part 1" of the long-awaited ScanOne battle pack series has finally dropped. Four tracks of finely crafted DJ assault weapons that straddle the divide between electro, half step and tough breaks. ScanOne's production style is firmly locked on the dancefloor while his background in film/sound editing lends the subtlety and depth of cinematic sci-fi soundscapes. A rare combination indeed.

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Scanone - "Sahkil"
Fx - "Sahkil" (remix)
Dexorcist - "Sunstorm"
Jerome Hill - "The End" (Stuck In 91 mix)
Review: A delightfully diverse and obscenely old school package here from Yellow boss Scanone and friends. Eschewing his usual obtuse bass and angular electro, here Scanny's gone for a balls-out jungle composition that wouldn't have gone amiss on Reinforced back in the day. Even electro purist Dexorcist has gone left-side as he returns to the spotlight with an SL2/Shades Of Rhythm style bouncer. Naturally Jerome follows suit with another early 90s hardcore homage that's somewhere between Unique 3 and Ellis Dee. All three are complete bangers. One for the raving crew.

I'll Be Your Eyes (7:15)
We Copy (5:40)
SSIK 92 (6:04)
Review: The longstanding partnership of Bionics and Yellow Machines label boss Jude Greenway return as Scanone with three uncompromising foundation sessions. "I'll Be Your Eyes" is straight back to 91 with nasty rusty amens and alien vocal textures, "We Copy" is a little more linear and less chaotic with a really devilish acid line and humming subs reminiscent of an LFO bomb. Finally we hit "SSIK 92", a proto jungle roller with classic dub drum breaks and a sub bassline that's so plump it needs clinical assistance.

Experimental/Electronic
Moon 2
Scene 7
Darklight
Vox 8
Menace 44
Review: With this sizable EP electro techno staple Scanone makes another appearance on regular haunt Yellow Machines, bringing five tracks of diverse, sci-fi infused electronica that kicks where it counts but keeps the tone esoteric on top. "Moon 2" is a fast-paced, dark-toned break cut, filtering in just enough melody to keep things emotional while the beats dutifully snap around the mix with an energetic grace. "Scene 7" is a more gentle affair, moving from anchorless strings to twitchy diversions into micro-sampled rhythms and rounded synth. "Darklight" calls to mind some of the earliest of Aphex Twin's breakbeats, but the melodies on top have a more tangible kind of melancholia to them which serves the spiritual impact of the record well. On the whole, it's the electro informed approach of classic labels like Skam that Scanone brings to mind with Scenes, and as an under-represented sound he is bringing a welcome focus to it.

Electro
Vivre (5:59)
Kraft (4:37)
Vertabre (4:27)
Vertabre (Sync 24 remix) (5:54)
Review: Scanone is a producer who has proven his versatility and so it's no wonder he's been tapped up for some killer tunes by the Reposition label. This blistering electro EP features three originals that mix up industrial textures with caustic drums and star-gazing synth work. 'Vivre' is an eye-watering opener with sheet metal sounds and frosty pads, 'Kraft' is then a slower more pensive electro soundscape and 'Vertabre' has a truly brutal groove that will rattle the walls of any club space, as well as dislodge brain cells. Sync 24 rounds things out with a remix of the same cut that becomes a sonic blizzard.

Neil Landstrumm - "Body Popper" (4:20)
Scanone - "Gift Of Life" (7:16)
Controlled Weirdness - "Information Society" (5:38)
Meat Beat Manifesto - "Destroy Dub" (3:50)
Review: The second in the BLE-EP series is another nostalgic trip back to the early days of rave. It's jam packed with six of the best breaks, bleeps and bass tunes, prickly analogue drum programming and future leads that immediately place you in a room full of smoke, lasers flashing by and strobes going mental. Bohm's 'Trouble' is a textbook take on this style, while Neil Landstrumm layers up bright melodies and refracts them around a punchy techno framework on 'Body Popper.' Meat Beat Manifesto's 'Destroy Dub' is a wild furry of drums and another gem on an EP full of them.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Very light creasing to corner of outer sleeve with minor tearing, but otherwise in excellent condition***

Anil Lal and Majkel's cult Furthur Electronix label is a hardcore favourite amongst real heads, and is something akin to a modern day for fans of Warp, Rephlex or Skam. It deals in fad-free and forward looking electronic sounds from another dimension and this bumper 19 track collection is a perfect overview of that. It kicks off with Mu Ziq's crusty electronics and then surges on a wave of cosmic energy through Hamatsuki' acid laced electro, dreamy post rave breaks from Kreggo and futurist jungle from DJ Mudak 2000. After the ambient laced first disc, things get a little deeper and darker later on with Lou Karsh's 'Liveelectro001' head melter a particular favourite.
