Anthony Shakir comes correct on the Fit Sounds imprint with three tracks that veer between the many strands of Detroit machine funk business. Proceedings commence with "Trackin", an unadulterated slice of rawness that leans on disco via filtered synth flourishes that burrow deep, with the thumping bass drums and soaring string section giving the track that motor city hue. The very loud and very good beatdownisms of "That Drumming Track" follows with a multiplicity of layered drums raining down and somehow achieving a fractured rhythmic thud; think Roska collaborating with Kyle Hall. On the flip Shake goes deep with the slow mo, off kilter burn of "Frayed" which sounds almost wrong at 33rpm during the opening sparse moments. The arrival of a slowly ascending organ sound that mutates brilliantly is the point where jaws drop as the track unfolds in stunning fashion.
