  4. After The Rain (6:17)
Review: Somehow, Alton Miller is a rather under-regraded, or certainly under exposed, members of the US house fraternity. He has turned out as many essential tracks as any of his peers, and continues to do so here on the fledgling Forbidden Dance label. He opens up with some of his typically musical house grooves, with loose drums, subtle acid sounds and lush melodies. A Rollin to Detroit mix of one of his older tunes 'Shine On Me' reworks it as a deep and jazzy number, while 'Headspace' slows to a downtempo crawl that sinks you in deep and 'After The Rain' explores slow motion cosmic synth work. Perfect.

  11. Malakou (6:29)
Review: For some reason, Alton Miller never seems to quite get the headlines of many of his Chicago peers. Maybe this expressive new album on the Music Institute label will go some way to correct that. It's as lush and musical as house gets, with bumping vocal tunes that are laced with golden chords to percussive workouts like 'Long Time Comin' sure to work floors into a lather. There are even slow jams like the seductive 'Time Is On Your Side' showing off another side to Miller's sound. Whatever he does, there is s sense of spirituality and inescapable emotion that makes every cut here a thing of beauty.

Blue Funk
Blue Funk (12")
Cat: dbh 004. Rel: 16 Jul 20
Deep House
  1. Bliss (5:30)
  2. Lovin & Dancin (4:02)
  3. All Tonight (7:06)
  4. Blue Funk (5:10)
Review: Astonishingly, Alton Miller was already four years into his production career when the "Blue Funk EP" first dropped on short-lived Detroit techno label M3 way back in 1997. The Detroiter is of course still going strong, though his productions are now way more polished than they were back then. As this reissue proves, the rawness and energy of his (relatively) early productions remains highly addictive. Check for example the hot-stepping analogue Afro-house beats, rich bass and tasty keys of "Bliss", the breathlessly loopy sweatiness of "Lovin' & Dancing" - a kind of raw disco-house cut-up masterpiece - and the trippy, breakbeat-driven sample house intensity of "Blue Funk" itself. The smoothest track of all, the NJ deep house influenced "All Tonight", is closest in tone to his more recent productions.

Ngizo Ku Linda
Cat: MG 053. Rel: 29 Mar 14
Deep House
  1. Ngizo Ku Linda
  2. Ngizo Ku Linda (Abicah Soul remix)
  3. Ngizo Ku Linda (instrumental edit)
Review: Truly spiritual house for the soul from the man Alton Miller here, with a new 12" on Moods & Grooves and his first for Mike Grant's label in over a decade! Recorded in South Africa with Africa's legendary artist/ producer Bantu Soul, "Ngizo Ku Linda" is the right kind of fusion and nestles snugly between afro house, jazz funk and just a dash of Motor City grit in the groove. It's made all the more memorable by Bantu Soul's sublime vocal delivery and the accompanying remix from Chicago producer Abicah Soul that tightens up the groove to give proceedings a more deep house flavoured sheen.

Where Did We Go Wrong
Cat: NSRVINYL 013. Rel: 04 Mar 21
Deep House
  1. Where Did We Go Wrong (7:49)
  2. Sweet Love (8:21)
  3. Sweet Love (Ricardo Miranda remix) (5:31)
Review: The perennially, criminally under the radar Alton Miller is as reliable as they come for classy and soulful house sounds. The Noble Square label now taps up there Chicago great for another pair of blissed out beats. Opener 'Where Did We Go Wrong' is a real gem, with lush melodies and sweeping chords laid over simple but effective drums. The focal point is a superb vocal dipping with soul. 'Sweet Love' is a little deeper and darker but still has the sort of aching beauty that will always stand it out. A Ricardo Miranda remix reworks it into a perfect downbeat tune for star gazing.

Bring Me Down
Cat: SS 065. Rel: 20 Jan 17
Deep House
  1. Bring Me Down (9:32)
  2. Bring Me Down (Theo Parrish translation) (9:35)
Review: Here's something to get excited about: a cracking new cut from Detroit deep house legend Alton Miller, backed with a 'Sound Signature' translation from the equally revered Theo Parrish. Miller's version of "Bring Me Down", is something of a treat: a sparkling, starry deep house epic that's blessed with immaculate vocals from soul chanteuse Maurissa Rose. Parrish's translation is equally as stretched out and similarly enjoyable, but is far looser and dustier in feel, with warmer bass and beats that naturally tend towards the jazzier. It's naturally more in keeping with Parrish's work than Miller's, but retains enough of the latter's touches to be counted as a fine remix.

Stuntman Mike Car's Soundtrack: Part 2
Cat: TKR 013. Rel: 04 Apr 16
Deep House
  1. Alton Miller - "When The Morning Comes 2nd"
  2. Jesus Gonsev - "Traits Of Humankind"
  3. Miruga - "Endless Waltz"
  4. Ernie - "Sharepoint"
Review: Stuntman Mike is a guy with special taste for cars, women and especially music. In his car radio groove is allways present. Here's a second part of what he prefers to hear when things get interesting. From Motor City , a house legend like Alton Miller, gives us a gem with this detroit house sound. From the city of rising sun Miruga makes an elegant, jazzy and groovy awesome track. And from Spain two deep house masters . On the one hand Jesus Gonsev brings a tasty bass and juicy string. On the other hand Ernie explores his dark side with this deep and dusk track. Four great artists for this new soundtrack. Mike's takes it out loud in his car. What are you waiting to do in yours? LImited to 300 copies.
