  1. Living Is Serious Business (Life acapella) (9:39)
  2. Living Is Serious Business (Carl Craig remix) (7:05)
Review: Given that he's always approached life with a cheery gusto, there's something rather ironic about Tim 'Love' Lee being involved in making a track called "Living Is Serious Business". Happily, he has man-of-the-moment Aaron 'Fit' Siegel by his side. The duo's original version is something of a trippy, late-night treat, with dubbed-out keys and percussive flourishes riding a dark Detroit bassline and fizzing, Motor City techno groove. It sounds like something that the brothers Fett would release on Sex Tags Mania, which is definitely a bonus in our book. Carl Craig does a sterling job on his flipside remix, retaining some of the original's eccentricity while adding a sweet melodiousness and production polish all of his own.

Resonance (12")
Cat: FIT 018. Rel: 03 Jul 17
  1. Resonance (6:48)
  2. Resonance (acappella) (6:27)
  3. Resonance (Toxic mix) (6:46)
Review: FIT Sound are back with "Resonance", the debut 12" by the duo Golden Mean who offer up symmetry, proportion and harmony via house music. Said to be comprised of two music academics in the form of Americans Sabisha Friedberg and Tyler Wilcox, the track's deep and reductionist groove is hypnotic and truly sublime with Friedberg's trance inducing spoken word atop adding further to its lovely mystique. There is a handy acappella version and the "Toxic Mix" on the flip which takes you on a dubby acid trip that's perfect for drifting and channels that classic Plastikman vibe circa the mid nineties, in a way.

Deep House
  1. Lada Passenger (6:08)
  2. Study Drum (4:46)
  3. Life Span (5:49)
Review: Given Aaron FIT Siegel's close link to Detroit's finest talents, we weren't expecting him to release a 12" by an artist such as Moscow's Oleg Buyanov, dubbed simply as OL. But, don't get us wrong, this is a great move for the label, and we're happy to see Siegel branching out into other domains. Also, it has to be said that OL's tunes have much in common with the Motor City's tradition, anyway. The lead tune "Lada Passenger" is a jazzy house experiment, a dance sketch with plenty of free-roaming harmonies and effects circling around it. On the flip, "Study Drum" has more in common with the typical deep house framework, and "Life Span" warms our winter chills with a deep, glowing bassline that you simply must test out at high volumes...

Deep House
  1. Tonite (OG mix)
  2. Tonite (DD mix)
Review: Ever rising in his presence on the global house and techno platform, Aaron Siegel gets his breakthrough "Tonite" jam revised with a little help from Omar-S and moves it over from FXHE to his own Fit Sound imprint for another release. The "OG Mix" is a chunky, bumping house cut with brash chords, cheeky squeaks and overall big room dynamics, despite the slower groove the track actually rides at. The "DD Mix" is more restrained, layering on interlocking melodies of plastic strings and poignant croons from L'Renee for an altogether more sultry end result.

Deep House
  1. Lowdown
  2. Trashd Funk
  3. Code Black
  4. Lumena
Review: Of all the delightful curveballs FXHE pulled last year, coaxing 90s Swedish techno producer Patrik Sjeren out of hiding to contribute to a Omar S release was the least expected. Detroit obviously favours the producer as Aaron Siegel's FIT Sounds operation now presents a full eponymously titled EP of new Sjeren material. The Swede's dalliance with Omar S on that 998 12" last year feels like it's inspired him as the four tracks here sound as diverse as a FXHE release and are held together cohesively by Sjeren's veteran production touch. Lead track "Lowdown" throws around a fractured female vocal edit and playfully shining keys over a smooth yet bumping house groove whilst the driving "Trashed Funk" adopts a similar approach but feels a whole lot dirtier. Flip over and Patrik switches the emphasis to techno, heading down the analogue wormhole on "Code Black" and pulling us sideways with the hypnotic warblings of "Lumena".
