EFUNK 2025
Cat: EFUNK 09. Rel: 30 May 25

Deep House
Mathew Jonson - "The Box"
Axel Boman - "Twinkle Twinkle"
Soul Clap, Byron The Aquarius - "Tachyon Funk"
Ataxia, Mister Jooshua - "Soul Clap"
Juliet Mendoza - "Runnin Away"
Review: Boston duo Soul Clap make a routine yearly stopover in Detroit with House Of Efunk, a DJs' slamdown paying collective tribute to the dance musical legacy of Motor City. Detroit's influence on the House of Efunk is undeniable, and this 25th release in the conjoining V/A series of EPs hears Soul Clap join Axel Boman, Juliet Mendoza, Ataxia, and Mathew Jonson for a serious-unserious serum of dance delirium. Best among them 0s the lo-fi astral projections of Boman's 'Ev'ry Body Wants To Be A Star' (hint: you already are) and Ataxia's future-lectro acid finesse-tration, 'Soul Clap'.

Efunk Detroit Volume III
Cat: EFUNK 08. Rel: 21 May 24

Deep House
DJ Minx - "Sweet" (6:35)
Marcellus Pittman - "888 In The Groove" (8:32)
Mike (Agent X) Clark - "Where You Get Your Funk From?" (5:13)
Sillygirlcarmen - "Good Times" (4:41)
Review: House of eFunk is back with another home to the legends of Detroit with Efunk Detroit Volume III. It is the one and only DJ Minx who kicks off with the stripped-back and low-slung dusty house depths and drive of 'Sweet'. Marcellus Pittman then offers another of his brilliantly raw, spare cuts in '888 In The Groove' with its swirling pads and raw hi-hats, then Mike (Agent X) Clark asks 'Where You Get Your Funk From?' by layering up smudgy pad swirls and prickly analogue beats under chopped up vocals. Sillygirlcarmen's 'Good Times' shuts down with a more steamy and sensuous sound topped with emotive vocals.

Efunk Detroit Vol 2 (B-STOCK)
Cat: EFUNK 06 (B-STOCK). Rel: 01 Jan 90

Deep House

B-STOCK: Slight surface marks, record slightly warped
Rick Wilhite - "Cheetah" (5:07)
Ladymonix - "In My Dreams" (5:25)
Jon Dixon - "4ever Searchin" (6:39)
Amp Fiddler & Charlie Soul Clap - "Thang" (6:02)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Slight surface marks, record slightly warped***

Soul Clap have always dealt in their own brand of funk no matter whether they are serving up house or disco. They of course call it e-funk - a nod to their heroes George Clinton's p-funk - and it also provides their label with its name. This second volume of Detroit leaning e-funk is a faultless four tracker. Rick Wilhite's signature lo-fi sounds define 'Cheetah', the vital Ladymonix then brings the party, Soul Clap themselves join up with funk master Amp Fiddler and Jon Dixon completes the quartet with '4ever Searchin.'

12 Months Of Longing (6:25)
Sexy Bot (7:35)
Used To Be (7:28)

Review: Philly native Josh Wink is still as relevant as ever, partially because he didn't just spend the decades after his breakout hit 'Higher State of Consciousness' trying to recreate the same thing. He has landed on several well-regarded labels, though mostly on his own 30-year-old Ovum, and here heads to House of eFunk for a new EP that taps into his nostalgic feelings of house from years gone by. The cuts are all lo-fi and rough-edged, with deep beats and grainy pads all bring timeless gores that come with rich synths and chords for extra special dancefloor appeal.
