Deep House
Work That (6:06)
Did You Do A Gig Last Night (5:44)
Extravaganza (5:34)
Work That (Winston's Dream mix) (6:04)
Review: Two of Detroit's finest contemporary talents come together here for House of Hits, a brand-new collaboration that cannot fail to get house heads excited. Both Wajeed and Ladymonix have fresh signature sounds and they collide both into something more party-starting than you might expect from each in solo mode. 'Work That' is bumping house with masterfully smeared synth work and edgy rap vocals all getting things going. 'Did You Do A Gig Last Night' is a deep but slamming house sound with traditional chord vamps bringing the heat and 'Extravaganza' then takes it down again into heady, cavernous dub house territory with intimate vocal whispers adding soul. 'Work That' (Winston Dream remix) is a thrilling broken beat version with sun-drenched pads and cosmic leads.

High Notes EP
High Notes EP (12" repress)
Cat: FE 006. Rel: 29 Jan 25

Deep House
High Notes (5:52)
Blow Your Mind (5:45)
A Bop (5:41)
Big Beat (6:42)
Review: Frizner Electric label head and Detroit talent Ladymonix brings plenty of fine summer sounds on her new EP which comes not that long after last year's still fresh Steppin' Out EP. This newline is a chance for her to show her many different styles. It combines jazzy, bright, deep, big house grooves with plenty fo well dug out samples and layered percussion. 'High Notes' kick off with gorgeous synth work and breezy sax motifs next to seductive vocals and 'Blow Your Mind' then bumps that bit harder and deeper. 'A Bop' is classic Motor City house with squelchy bass and loose drums and Big Beat' brings the vibes with more swirling chord work and crisp boom-bap drums.

Put It Up (5:10)
Review: LADYMONIX invites us to take one last look at ourselves in the mirror, grab our phone, keys & wallet, and strut unapologetically out of the house and into her second EP. Created from her Detroit homebase but inherently inspried annd ruled by her mother city of Baltimore, this new record continues the dancer/DJ friendly formula of her debut release, giving us something to play at ever stage of the night out.

Steppin' Out (feat Waajeed mix)
Cat: FE 005. Rel: 20 Sep 21

Deep House
Steppin' Out (12" MAC mix) (5:47)
Steppin' Out (Waajeed Get Into It Girl dub) (6:06)
The Nerve (5:43)
It's A Party Dammit! (4:40)
Review: LADYMONIX is very much getting the attention she deserves these days, but the truth is she has been turning out high-quality archetypal Detroit house for years. Proof, if you need it, comes with this EP from back in 2021. It starts with the subtly acid-infused deep house heat of 'Steppin' Out' which Waajeed then flips into a more raw, direct and physical groove with stiff stabs and chopped-up vocals. 'The Nerve' brings back the smooth, basement vibes of Mike Huckaby and 'It's A Party Dammit!' gets more tense and textural but is still infused with real machine soul.

Club Nowhere EP
Cat: FE 004. Rel: 15 Oct 20

Deep House
Club Nowhere (5:04)
Mood (6:58)
Gonna Let (5:01)
Movin On (6:03)
Review: Ladymonix brings the class on the four tracks she lays down for Frizner Electric. 'Club Nowhere' is like a superbly deep Fred P track if he were a more extroverted character, while 'Mood' manages to marry dreamy pads to heavy weight kicks with a real sense of drive. The house gets raw and steamy on 'Gonna Let' then closer 'Movin On' is a super silky late night jam. What's more, a portion of sales from this EP will be donated to support Femme Queen Chronicles, a series about the lives of four black trans women in the city of Detroit.

Efunk Detroit Vol 2
Efunk Detroit Vol 2 (limited 12")
Cat: EFUNK 06. Rel: 13 Jun 23

Deep House
Rick Wilhite - "Cheetah" (5:07)
Ladymonix - "In My Dreams" (5:25)
Jon Dixon - "4ever Searchin" (6:39)
Amp Fiddler & Charlie Soul Clap - "Thang" (6:02)
Review: Soul Clap have always dealt in their own brand of funk no matter whether they are serving up house or disco. They of course call it e-funk - a nod to their heroes George Clinton's p-funk - and it also provides their label with its name. This second volume of Detroit leaning e-funk is a faultless four tracker. Rick Wilhite's signature lo-fi sounds define 'Cheetah', the vital Ladymonix then brings the party, Soul Clap themselves join up with funk master Amp Fiddler and Jon Dixon completes the quartet with '4ever Searchin.'
