Raumwerk EP
Raumwerk EP (marbled vinyl 12")
Cat: ACA X. Rel: 19 May 21

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Klaustrophon (5:25)
Stolpergeist (5:56)
Flachenromantik (8:33)
Synthoskop (3:24)
Review: Demegy & LUI 's Raumwerk EP is the tenth Alpha Cutauri record with the catalogue number ACA X. The Swiss producers serve up an impressive EP full of half time drum 'n' bass experiments that lurk in the genre's grey area. From the dark urban soundscape of 'Klaustrophon' which is perfect for that stoned journey home aboard the night bus,to the introspective 170 BPM tempo of 'Flaechenromantik' on the flip (which calls to mind the work of Instra:mental) and ending with the haunting dark ambient of 'Synthoskop' - a seething subterranean epic where you can envisage something evil lurking in the sewers. Tip!

Glowworm EP
Glowworm EP (hand-stamped marbled vinyl 12")
Cat: ACA VII. Rel: 02 Jun 20

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Flowhunt (6:07)
Soteria (5:35)
Thelema (6:27)
Bricolage (3:05)
Through The Eyes Of Ice (3:15)
Review: Recently spotted shaking bones and souls on Inperspective, Dissident's 2017 Alphacut release gets a well needed reissue. Stepping between halftime, full pelt and ambient, the 12" is a vast bag of treats. "Flowhunt", "Soteria" and "Bricolage" all writhe around the snake-like halftime dynamic under heavy atmospherics, "Through The Eyes Of Ice" is a stark slice of beatless atmospherics while "Thelema" is a straight up neck-snapper. Glow big or glow home.

Infinite Dylays EP (hand-stamped marbled vinyl 12")

Drum & Bass / Jungle
We (4:49)
Ioana (4:46)
Space Program (3:15)
Mechanism (5:00)
Undefined (4:05)
Alpha (3:10)
Review: Alphacut get busy on the reissue front with this beautiful 2018-released six-piece from Romanian artist Dyl. Released not long before his stunning album Sonder on Paradise Lost, each cut is a hazy weave of emotions and soft beat work, that's best compared to the Autonomic sound. From the tidal synths and heartbeat kicks of opener "We" to the final decaying echo and texture of "Alpha", this is a trip from straight to finish. Grab it while you can; no Dylly-dallying.

Pathways EP
Cat: ALPHACUTAURI IV. Rel: 02 Sep 14

Techno
In Still
Pathways
Zero Point
Scant
Review: Two Alpha Cutauri releases in one week? German label Alphacut are really spoiling us this week! This fourth edition is some truly deep cerebral electronica from Bristol based producer Adam Elemental. The four tracks here tick every box possible; heavily meditative ambient trance ("In Still"), stately deep psy-trance ("Pathways"), timeless space-gazed breakbeats ("Zero Point") and bubbling linear tribal tech ("Scant"). Four wholly different corners united with consistency and clarity, this will forge a pathway into any discerning dancefloor.

Escapism (part 2)
Scapes (part 1)
Scapes (part 2)
Scapes (part 3)
Review: One of three big launch releases for contemporary jungle Alphacut's sub label Alpha Centauri, here we find Felix leaping from clicky deep-soul D&B to lush, droning deep techno with consummate ease and sonic sophistication. Those looking for the big club-weight roller should head directly to "Escapism" while those in need of a deep-space bass pummelling should flip for the slo-mo plod massage of "Scapes Part 3". And those looking for a Mathew Dear style minimalism circa 2008? It's all about "Escapism Part 2". Something for everyone.

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Filmscape

Endgame
Review: Deep D&B can often be a snooze-worthy affair. Especially now halfstep is more common than sausage rolls and the Autonomic sound has given everyone the idea deep is an easy ticket to your wallet. Then along comes a producer who really shows how involved and textured deep drum & bass can be. Each of the four cuts on here shimmers with a horizontal haze while offering endless layers of rhythmic and atmospheric pressure. Highlights are the pneumatic kick and tom combo on "Filmscape" and the stuttering drum arrangement on "Endgame". Deep AND delectable.

Eleven Eleven
Eleven Eleven (dark brown marbled vinyl 12")
Cat: ALPHACUTAURI VI. Rel: 20 Nov 14

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Eleven Eleven
Vril Yo
Ether Way
Review: Spacebound sonics abound as Leipzig's most experimental bass producers gets busy on Alpha Cutauri. Developing the starkness and darkness from track to track, each cut is a stern lesson in mindboggling arrangement and sound design. "Eleven Eleven" is a sombre soundtrack as minor chords echo infinitely, overlapping over distant, spacious drums. "Vril Yo" is the most dancefloor-inclined creation, all skippy drums and tripped out elements. We end with faraway sheet metal hammers of "Ether Way". One part dreamy, three parts industrial craftmanship, it has potential to be a national anthem for the land of the lost generation.

Review: Alphacut...just a drum and bass label? Think again. The German operation has, yes, been a lynchpin within German drum and bass for more than a decade, but it's their Alpha Cutauri series that's entering the outer limits of experimental sounds, that in a hazy, minute kind of way are vaguely linked to the world of drum and bass. But don't mention this to the artists who have appeared on the series, people like Felix K, Elemental, Sub, and now Paranoid Society. Moreover, trying to explain how this music sounds is almost a waste of time, so best grasp it yourself while it's still there.

Cat: ALPHACUTAURI III. Rel: 29 Jan 13

Drum & Bass / Jungle
Alpha
History
Deeper
Hades
Review: The second of Alpha Centauri's big triple-release launch this week comes from Austrian artist Sub, a man whose productions are so heavy on the low-end he's the bass music equivalent of a builder calling himself Brick. Skipping from skitty, scratchy deep D&B ("Alpha") to a darker, more dungeon-esque cuts such as "History" and "Deeper" Sub rubs out the lines between genres and replaces them with abyss-like darkness. If you're into Icicle or Arkaik you'll be all over this!
