Strictly Dann Stealy
Cat: SWR 032. Rel: 23 May 25
Strictly Dan Stealy (4:12)
Uncle Grain O's (3:34)
Review: As you probably know if you're reading this, Jorun Bombay is one of the most consistently on for edit maestros in the game. Here he steps up with a new outing that sticks right at the heart of the dancefloor once more. 'Strictly Dann Stealy' is a clever mash-up of De La Soul's 'Eye Know (Know It All Remix)' featuring the original source vocals over a faithfully recreated instrumental. It channels the signature energy of early 90s hip-hop clubs with a fresh twist you've never heard before. On the flip, 'Whole Grain O's' offers a reimagined instrumental take on 'Oodles of O's' which is packed with reggae chants, added turntablism and signature 'Oh's'. It's a playful, party-ready version that balances just the right amount of nostalgia and brand new style.

Rapture
Rapture (7")
Cat: SWR 020. Rel: 14 Sep 20
Rapture (Jorun remix) (3:50)
Don't Pay Any Fuller (A Jorun Bombay edit) (3:45)
Review: Canadian Jorun Bombay is a long time remix master who now lands on Soundweight Records with his latest cut up and reworking efforts. The A-side finds him take on Blondie's legendary 'Rapture', which mixed slick raps with post-punk guitars. Here it becomes sweet rolling funk gem with molten chords and plenty of soul. The flip-side is a tropical rework of 'Don't Pay Any Fuller' that ups the bass and beefs out the drums, while layering in steamy chords and percussion that brim with character. These are two more classics in the spotless catalogue of Jorun Bombay.

The Big Bonus Beats

The Big Bonus Beats (A Jorun Bombay edit) (2:26)
Jamaican Funk (A Jorun Bombay edit) (4:40)
Review: Jorun Bombay is back once again with more of his masterful beat mash ups and beat juggling 7"s. This is his second this week - well, it's a black wax version of the same EP where the other is bright pink, both on Soundweight. He opens up with 'The Big Bonus Beats' (A Jorun Bombay edit) which has crashing drum hits and an iconic vocal mashed together with some funky guitar riffs and plenty of big, oversized and splashing cymbals. 'Jamaican Funk (A Jorun Bombay edit)' is a super sweet jam with a plunging synth bassline and more classic vocal samples that lend it a neo-soul feel.

Jamaican Funk (A Jorun Bombay edit) (4:44)
Review: Master cut and paste man Jorun Bombay doesn't leave it long between his mash-ups. The leading beatmaker has put out plenty this year but still finds time for one more in the form of this new 7" on Soundweight. He opens up with 'The Big Bonus Beats' (A Jorun Bombay edit) which has crashing drum hits and an iconic vocal mashed together with some funky guitar riffs and plenty of big, oversized and splashing cymbals. Hangin' Out With Family/Love Thang (Is The Message)
Cat: JBOR 003. Rel: 16 Dec 24
Hangin' Out With Family (3:59)
Love Thang (Is The Message) (4:21)
Review: Jorun Bombay is an edit master and deep digger who combines those skills on a huge number of killer records, and his latest comes on his own young JBOR label. It's a vital 7" that kicks off with 'Hangin' Out With Family' which reworks a classic Mary J Blige vocal into a slow motion and horn lead deep funky cut. On the flip, 'Love Thang (Is The Message)' has a more disco-leaning feel with lush strings, lovely hand claps and plenty of lavish synth work that brings it to life with an exuberant and elegant edge. Two classy cuts for dancefloor fun.

Joyous (remix) (4:38)
Good Morning (feat Jah'Mila - Daylight mix) (4:44)
Review: Jorun Bombay is well known to beat freaks and hip hop heads for being as authentic and original as it gets. His work in the studio cutting up edits and crafting remixes is second to none. He works at a high rate too and now is back once again with a couple of tight reworks of feel good funk-breaks. 'Joyus' (remix) has a bit of a Brand New Heavies feel with acid-jazz licks, funky beats and seductive soul vocals. 'Good Morning' (feat Jah'Mila - Daylight mix) then comes on just as strong with more well defined drums, some expressive xylophone melodies and a deeper late night feel.

Just A Touch Of (Keepin' The Faith ) (3:57)
Review: Beat freak, hip hop head and edit king Jorun Bombay has turned out a seemingly unending stream of music this year and most of it has come on this label. His scalpel work is authentic and original and here he turns his attention to two more funk gems. He serves up it on nice limited edition blue vinyl. 'Say No Go For That' (A Jorun Bombay edit) is a deep gem with seductive Hall & Oats vocals and then the more hip shining r&b sounds of 'Just A Touch Of (Keepin' The Faith )' keep the warming winter vibes alive on the flip.

2024 'Til Infinity (4:15)
A Night Called Saturdays (A Jorun Bombay remix) (3:51)
Review: Jorun Bombay's latest release, A Night Called Saturday / 2024 Till Infinity, is a power-packed 45 that effortlessly blends genres. Side-1 features 'A Night Called Saturday,' a classy mix of rhythm and blues, funk, and soul. The track is reminiscent of popular 90s girl bands like SWV, delivering a dancey, infectious vibe that invites listeners to groove along. On Side-2, '2024 Till Infinity' takes a different turn with downtempo hip hop influences. This B-side showcases great vocal performances as well, creating a smooth and engaging jam. The Biz Payback

The Biz Payback (4:10)
Markie Jackson (Biz MJ-Cool V) (3:52)
Review: Any discerning beat head will be more than familiar with the work of Jorun Bombay who is a master of his craft and as true-skool as hip-hop gets. He has a vast knowledge of 80s and 90s sounds that he adds his own twist to, often with great precision and plenty of dancefloor clout. This one kicks off with 'The Biz Payback' which has a lazy, low slung beat and some fine funky basslines. The bars are old school and channel plenty of James Brown rawness. On the flip is the scratch-tactic 'Markie Jackson (Biz MJ-Cool V)' which is another fine throwback sound.

Review: Masterful edit maker, beat juggler and cut and paste specialist Jorum Bombay is back with more of his dancefloor heat in the form of this fresh purple 7" for Kista's Soundweight Records. It features a brace of classic cuts back to back but of course all served up with his unique sonic treatment. Up first is his singular remake of the M A R R S hit, 'Pump Up The Volume', with all new Indian vocals, then on the flip he tackles McFadden & Whitehead's feel good disco anthem, 'Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now', which cannot fail to bring joy into your life.

Cat: SWR 032BEERREDLABEL. Rel: 08 Oct 24
Our Thang (A Jorun Bombay remix) (3:59)
Phungry (A Jorun Bombay remix) (3:18)
Review: While we usually resist the idea of reworking perfect classics, Jorun Bombay masterfully enhances some originals here without losing their essence. This double-sided gem that effortlessly mixes up nostalgia with contemporary flair and it comes on nice coloured wax. This time, he revitalises a classic James Brown production, 'Our Thang' with fresh energy through added guitar, a lively trombone solo, and vibraphone. The second cut 'Phungry' ingeniously blends a seasoned 90s hip-hop cut with reggae-style vocals, all in the same key.

Phungry (A Jorun Bombay remix) (3:17)
Review: Beat maker extraordinary and hit king Jorun Bombay returns with another double-sided gem, this time in three different versions of coloured vinyl. As always, he blends nostalgic vibes with fresh 2024 energy on both cuts, starting with 'Our Thang,' in which he reinvents a classic James Brown production, adding funky guitar, trombone, and vibraphone. This instrumental rework gives the track a new lease of life, subtly enhancing a timeless classic while the flip side, 'Phungry,' fuses a 90s hip-hop favourite with reggae vocals. Both tracks showcase Jorun's mastery of enhancing originals without losing their essence.

Jorun Bombay & The Espressolites - "Peas In An Alternate Universe" (4:22)
Jorun Bombay - "Mister Magic" (A Jorun Bombay edit - alternate version) (3:19)
Review: When it comes to delivering party-starting funk and soul 45s, Jorun Bombay has an impressive track record. His latest seven-inch is rather fine, too. On the A-side he joins forces with a trio of musicians to offer up "Peas In An Alternate Universe": a riff on JBs classic "Pass The Peas" that layers extended organ and trombone solos over a groove dominated by crunchy breakbeats and virtuoso bass guitar. Flipside "Mister Magic" is a deeper, warmer and more laidback affair, with tidy electric piano parts, toe-tapping drums, occasional string-laden disco samples and warm bass being joined by a simply wonderful new vibraphone solo.
