DNA Edits Volume 5
Cat: DNA 012. Rel: 29 Mar 21
That's The Way Love Goes (DNA edit) (4:17)
The Thrill Is Gone (DNA edit) (4:30)
Review: DJ DSK is back with volume 5 of his DNA Edits series i the same month that he links with his All Stars for another red hot 7". This one kick off with a 90s style rework of 'That's the Way Love Goes' by J Jackson which has replayed bass and drums straight from the golden era. The whole thing has been reworked from the original stems and sounds and on the reverse is a DJ friendly edit of BB K's 'Thrill Is Gone' which has been beefed up for modern systems with a handy intro and outdo to make mixing easier.

DNA Edits Instrumentals Vol 1
Cat: DNA 015. Rel: 29 Apr 21
Love Thang (4:06)
Just An Illusion (3:51)
Review: DJ DSK kicks off another series of Edits Instrumentals volumes here with another pair of his vital cut up and reworked classics. The key to it is the source material - he always knows how to find just the right sort of disco tune or 80s classic to tease apart and rebuild in more robust and dance floor friendly fashion, all with a modern edge. 'Love Thang' is a sultry, low slung disco tune with big strings and funky riffs, while on the reverse, 'Just An Illusion' offers a more squelchy and late night groove for dancing to under a setting sun, maybe.

DNA Edits Instrumentals Vol 2
Cat: DNA 016. Rel: 29 Apr 21
Bad Girls (4:02)
Need You Tonight (4:14)
Review: The relentless edit surgeon that is DJ DSK must have spent the whole of lockdown digging for beats, then taking them to his operating table and setting to work, boucle he has a glut of new Eps out in close proximity. He kicks off here with a huge disco classic in 'Bad Girls' and strips out the vocals, turns up the fun and allows the beats to roll on uninterrupted. On the flip he takes the classic, jittery, 80s INXS gem 'Need You Tonight' and strips out the vocals, makes the beats that bit more crisp and sharp and adds some reverb for extra weight.

DNA Edits Instrumentals Vol 3
Cat: DNA 017. Rel: 29 Apr 21
That's The Way Love Goes (4:16)
The Thrill Is Gone (4:31)
Review: A-grade edit specialists DJ DSK is having a hugely prolific year. He has already put put a wealth of 7"s this year and now comes on strong with yet another. DNA Edits Instrumentals Vol 3 finds him hunt down some killer source material and cut it and rework it with his surgeons sonic scalpel. 'That's The Way Love Goes' has a hard hitting boom-bap break with a bouncy bassline bringing some air. A neat and funk guitar riff acts as the main hook with synth strings bring expansive feels. On the back side is 'The Thrill Is Gone', a more laid back but still funky break for those earlier or even later night hours.

Fly Like An Eagle (DNA edit) (4:16)
Maltrato (DNA edit) (4:04)
Review: As anyone who has picked up any of his previous seven-inch singles will tell you, break-diggin' rework merchant DJ DSK can usually be relied upon to deliver the goods. This second volume in his ongoing "DNA Edits" series hits the spot, offering up two tidy, dancefloor-focused revisions. On side A he turns his attention to SM AOR classic "Fly Like An Eagle", subtly beefing it up via sweaty new hip-hop style drums whilst retaining the original guitars, vocals, bass and elongated organ chords. On side B he gets to work on Panamanian salsa classic "Maltrato", adding even more salsa shuffle and contemporary dancefloor weight to the much-adored 1975 Freddy y Sus Afro Latinos' classic.

DNA Edits Vol 3
Cat: DNA 006. Rel: 08 Jan 20
Love Thang (4:08)
Just An Illusion (4:01)
Review: The DNA Edits label gets right to the heart of the music it reworks and adds to, subtracts from, or extends all the key elements required to make it absolute dance floor dynamite. DJ DSK is behind the sixth EP - which lands just ahead of a very fun 7" that is made up of short samples from various Street Fighter console games. Once again here the crate digging, breaks making splicer and dicer comes correct across a duo of beefy beats, sunny soul jams and funked up loops that will get you in the mood to groove.

DNA Edits Volume 6
Cat: DNA 014. Rel: 29 Mar 21
Remind Me (3:57)
Knee Deep (4:20)
Review: Only a week after his last outing on this label, DJ DSK is making another return with more of his masterful edits. Volume 6 finds him open up with 'Remind Me,' which is a soulful and jazzy jam, with tumbling drums and nice wet claps. The vocal is the real winner, though, as it tugs at those heart strings. Flip it over and you'll find the much bigger anymore bumping 'Knee Deep' which has myriad recognisable samples all reworked into a party ready hip hop funk joint for the b-boys and girls out there.

Lamine
Lamine (limited 7")
Cat: DINK 006. Rel: 25 Nov 16
Lamine (4:05)
Police Woman (2:32)
Kunming Beats (1:48)
Review: The latest artist to join Dinked's roster of soul and funk obsessives is DJ D.S.K, a China-based Brit who grew up cutting and scratching hip-hop and old funk breaks. The three tracks showcased here seem to be built around samples from tasty old funk bombs, from cut-up and rearranged breaks, to punchy horn lines and low-slung basslines. Lead cut "Lamine" is particularly potent, featuring as it does DJ-friendly drum breaks, jangling soul guitars, rubbery bass and a floor-friendly rhythm track. Flip for the looser, electric piano-heavy dancefloor strut of "Police Woman", and the dusty, head-nodding, trumpet-laden hip-hop bounce of "Kumming Beats" (and, yes, it's a sneaky cut-up of an old James Brown tune).

Lost Soul Part 1 & 2
Cat: DINK 012. Rel: 06 Jan 20
Lost Soul (part 1) (4:13)
Lost Soul (part 2) (3:50)
Review: DJ DSK has released some heavyweight seven-inch singles over the years, with his 2016 45 "Laminate" - an original slab of funk made in cahoots with the previously unheralded "Lost Soul Collective". Here he gathers together the band once more for a follow-up four years in the making. "Lost Soul" is a two-part affair in keeping with the funk tradition. The A-side is an infectious vocal number that sits somewhere between Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and the more psychedelic flavour associated with turn-of-the-70s San Francisco soul. As you'd expect, the flipside "Part 2" version strips out most of the vocals to allow the band's warm and heady instrumentation room to breathe.
