Review: LA's Orgone crew are specialists in smooth, seductive soul music, and you could say that the band is waving the flag very high in the air for the continuation and health of the genre. It was their original material on Ubiquity back in the early 2000's that gave them their fame, but these two new nuggets on Colemine are pretty on-point in terms of dancefloor destruction: "Do What You Came Here To Do" is a rough and twisted sex bomb that sounds like it was made in '76 - a tune that would make a great addition to a Quentin Tarantino flick - and the "Ronin" instrumental is simply a great, devastating piece of instrumentation for you to get DOWN to.

Review: We've barely recovered from the funk blitz of last year's Undercover Mixtape album and along comes this brand new 45 from long-standing LA funk troupe. As always, the focus is on big immersive grooves with just the right balance of sleaze and looseness; "Big Day" slouches back and swampy blues arrangement with the massive backing vocals giving an almost gospel-style energy. "Hound Dogs" is more of an upbeat funk jam, loaded with snaking percussive weaves, vital horns and a positive message. Spread the good word.

Review: As if their recent album Beyond The Sun wasn't quite enough new material this year, Orgone return with two more brand new jams on this 7" for Colemine. "Strike" is a firing, sweaty Union cover that's focused on nothing but an unashamed party. "New You" is a softer, more sensual boogie number that oozes soaking wet guitar licks and honey-coated vocals throughout. Powerful contemporary funk from one of the most successful and prolific troupes in existence.

Review: California funk troupe Orgone really need no prior introduction and it's great to see the group line up for a release here on the Colemine Records label. Initially released on clear vinyl in limited numbers earlier in 2014 whilst label boss Terry Cole was on tour, Don't Stop has now been pressed in a larger quantity for all the budding funk selectors out there and shows two distinct sides to the Orgone sound. The title track is all about the power house vocal performance from Tiffany Austin and how Orgone "make it easy" for her to ride the groove. Flip over and "Powerfeed" is Orgone laying down a heaving slab of heavy instrumental funk.

Review: "I Get Lifted" is a version of the track Harry Wayne Casey (KC) and Richard Finch (later known in life as KC and the Sunshine Band) produced for George McCrae. Los Angeles vocalist Fanny Franklin shines on vocals, riding an irresistible cosmic-flavoured tune that settles nicely somewhere between live disco and spacey soul. Franklin has appeared on recordings by Dakah and sang alongside Macy Gray. She is the de-facto Orgone vocalist to appear on tours and as the main vocalist on the upcoming album. On the flip is an instrumental inspired as much by Roy Ayers as Fela Kuti. "It's What You Do" will appeal to fans of Orgone's previous recordings like "Hambone" and "Funky Nassau".

Review: The wait for some straight up new Orgone heaviness has ended with this 12". Adding to the occasion is a bonafide legend. Danny Krivit checked Orgone's "Nassau" and heard a groove he simply had to take on in his immitable style. His beast of a re-edit takes on a whole side of this new12" and, perhaps predictably, warrants just that. The other side is pure elbows-up feet moving territory. "Hambone" doesn't stop surprising - an uptempo masterpiece that builds and builds, and drops...and builds again. The band live as you get, with their heads down for nearly 8 minutes, giving us something for the floor - funk, disco, live house!? - call it what you will. Then there is "Sophisticated Honky" - classic Orgone - roughed up funk guitar leading this stomper whilst huge horns battle for their place amidst the boom bap. Be sure to behold the percussive breaks on both these original Orgone killers.

Review: Long-established LA funk troupe Orgone re-deliver their 2015 album Beyond The Sun on gatefold coloured vinyl. As if the sounds were beautiful enough... Seven albums deep, the ever-expanding collective (who've backed the likes of Pharohe Monche, The Pharcyde and Plantlife) hone their sound to even tighter, silkier depths. Now rolling with new singer Adryon De Leon, there's a newfound sense of energy and style across the album. From the sweaty, stompy glam-funk grooves of "Someone's Love Is Real" to the smouldering smokiness of "No Pain", Orgone continue to remain in their own universe. If your collection doesn't boast this, now is the time.

Review: 3 Pram Records unveils its inaugural release here with a fantastic full length from Los Angeles powerhouses Orgone. Alongside collaborators like Cyril Neville, Kelly Finnigan and Pimps of Joytime, the band of percussionists, trumpet players, saxophonists, keys and drum mavericks all serve up another gritty collage of soul, funk and hip hop that pairs vintage production with slick rhythms and a storytelling narrative that has a spiritual message. This is the band's 10th album and is another one that sits right up there with the best of the rest.
