Review: Tinted Windows is the wondrously, almost hilariously cast supergroup comprising guitarist James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins fame, Taylor Hanson of Hanson, bassist Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne, and Cheap Trick's Bun E. Carlos. Brace yourself for a reminder of this ingenious grouping this 2024: the debut self-titled album was first released in 2009 and though it intended to synergise each founding members' successes as part of their earlier projects, also did fantastically well at portraying a contemporary take on the 70s and 80s pop rock quintessence. Lead singles 'Nothing To Me' are instantly reminiscent of Ferris Bueller in the drop-top, though all come dashed, even sprinkled, with a hint of 90s pubic power punk a-la 'Stacy's Mom', as we should expect from a Fountains Of Wayne adjacent.

Review: Early on in Muslimgauze's (Bryn Jones') career, the musician released two ultra-mysterious releases on the equally mysterious label Hessian, which some speculate might've been comprised entirely of Jones himself. Hammer & Sickle was one of these two early LPs from the faux Arabic auteur, and was notable for its distinct lack of any back cover artwork (who needs a visual stimulus when you've got such great music on board?). Though still indicative of Jones' work as Muslimgauze, superfans will note that this release sounds a little more formative than some of his later releases, owing to its lessened use of Middle Eastern instrumentation and sparser production in general. B-sider 'Fear Of Gadaffi' is the most intermittent in this regard, revelling more than anything in the simple effect of spring delay on sampled, freeform perc hits.

Review: Marie Davidson's latest single 'Y.A.A.M.' is a poignant critique of power dynamics in the music industry - favouring authenticity and passion in a world that thrives on branding and transactional relationships - out of which the Canadian artist finds fuel to fan the driving flames of existential industrial electro-techno. The track opens with a juddering, in-between-4x4-and-2-step electro beat, which lasts for over a minute before Davidson takes up the mic: "do you follow me?". What ensues is an imperfect list of music industry quibbles, which flow over the monstrously huge backing - "entrepreneurs, influencers, producers, managers / nothing for you and me" - in stark but gallows-comedic contrast to the plea to relocate our arses to the dancefloor. In Davidson's own words, the track was inspired by a haughty, lecturing email from a music industry insider: "I took the opportunity to write down how I felt about the words," she recalls, "and the overall tone of arrogance of what I had just been sent quickly, I found myself having a bit too much fun."

Review: On their second album Desperado, the Eagles went deep into the idea of the American Wild West. With their country twang, Glenn Frey and Don Henley's songs were already cowboy-friendly, but this album took the concept further. Released in 1973, it captures everything you love about the Eagles from shit-kickin' rock n' roll like 'Out of Control' facing off with sentimental classic 'Tequila Sunrise'. After all this time it's the title track which remains one of the band's most beloved songs - everything a lonesome man on the prairie needs to hear after a hard day and a hoedown.

Building on the sonic landscape he began exploring with Foray in 2015, Subheim strips away percussive elements in favor of space, ambience, and melody. Review: If ever there was a band destined to get the Analogue Productions treatment, it's surely Steely Dan. The go-to group for audioophiles, yacht-sailing dreamers and frankly everyone in the whole damn world, the Dan's highly-prized studio obsession deserves the finest possible fidelity. Originally released in 1980, Gaucho was Walter Becker and Donald Fagen's swansong until reuniting in 2000. Musically, it was a departure for the group as they honed their compositions into more patient, atmospheric pieces which held down a mood instead of striving for dramatic sweeps and shifts, but that doesn't detract one jot from the might of tunes such as 'Babylon Sisters' and the eternally funky 'Glamour Profession'. Now those songs sound the best they possibly could thanks to this exacting reproduction.

Review: Steely Dan's fourth studio album 'Katy Lied' was their 1975 standout moment, capturing a moment in time when the band had gained plenty of traction, and had already ridden the wave of fame for a good time. As a result, their music had grown in creativity and grandeur, expanding outwards from a mere prog rock outfit into a studio project, necessitating a steady stream of session musicians, highest-fidelity gear and lots of money. As ever, infectious guitar hooks and R&B funk structures make up most tracks here, making this an early party rock album if we've ever heard one. Themed after the terrifying notion of entering a black hole, and likening this to the vicarious yet no less enjoyable illusions of grandeur that might go hand in hand with attending a Millsart rave, 'The Trip' has been routinely billed as "the world's first cosmic opera" (in its performance incarnation), and attempts to sonically answer the question as to what exactly happens when we cross that fateful event horizon, in ambitious, live-jam-born-recorded form. Review: Before I Die have been putting out some high-grade leftfield delights from respected operators like Bernardino Femminelli, Tungusku and most recently Sewell & The Gong. Now it's the turn of Klangkollektor, indulging a collection of hazy dub excursions which sit somewhere near Balearic splendour, piano-charged melancholy and isolation tank meditation. In the dub tradition the approach is consistent and evenly paced, but it's certainly not aiming for any kind of typical Jamaican sound. Instead, there's a gentle introspection to the melodic content which gels perfectly with the spacious approach to mixing, unfurling across four sides of wax for an album you can just melt into.

Eternally Yours, their seminal second album, marked a departure from their debut's raw aggression, showcasing a kaleidoscope of influences that transcended the boundaries of punk. While their debut, I'm Stranded, embodied the quintessential punk ethos, Eternally Yours explored a more eclectic palette. Review: Spanish hardcore punk label and distributor La Agonie De Vivir reissue the indelible No Straight Angles LP by No Fun At All, originally released by Burning Heart Records in 1994, but which also saw a resurgence in popularity in 2016 thanks to its first reissue by the former label. The Swedish punk band 'quit while they were ahead' in 1999, but their legacy has proven difficult to wilt, and No Straight Angles is by far their best-known project. A huge fifteen tracks all burning through buzzing spread-guitars and claustrophobic hooks, this is the sound of clunky comings-of-age and foregone conclusions, embraced with full fervour by Eriksson, Jansson and co. A great, original record which is especially useful for quelling anxiety, ironically by affirming that anxiety.

Review: As the title suggests, Broadcast have collected all their demo recordings made between 2000 and 2006 and compiled them onto a single 14-track record. But that's not the main piece of news: sadly, this one marks the end of releasing from the band, tying the bow on an game-changing career to say the least. Many of these tender tidbits were worked into finished productions appearing on Haha Sound, Tender Buttons and The Future Crayon; it's an impressive flex to be able to flaunt your one-offs and pack them onto a single recorded finale. What's more, the connotations aroused by form - demos - as well as the sonic content of these gems plays nicely up to Broadcast's now well-established aesthetic, which is one for the ages, to be sure. The album also includes two songs discovered by James after bandmate Trish's passing: 'Come Back To Me' and 'Please Call To Book' which was her response to Broadcast's 2006 'Let's Write A Song' project, where fans were asked to submit lyrics on a postcard which would then be worked into a finished song.
