Review: The gigs The Doors played at The Matrix in March 1967 are a seminal part of their mythology, given they were recorded when the band were yet to breakthrough beyond Southern California and were pretty much playing to an empty room. The idea of such a legendary band in such humble times is one thing, but crucially this three-night stint was captured in stunning quality by recording engineer Peter Abram. Between the stretch of their recently released debut and some of the future classics they would become adored for, not to mention some incendiary covers, this three-disc edition brings forth more of the material from Abram's coveted tapes, making this a must-grab for Doors devotees everywhere.

Review: Alive She Cried is The Doors' electrifying second live album from 1983, available for the first time on vinyl since its original release. The first live album to be released following the band's explosion in popularity after their incendiary song 'The End' was lucky enough to be featured in the timeless Ford-Coppola movie Apocalypse Now, Elektra Records were more than compelled to pursue the release of more Doors material; this one homes in on various concerts between 1968-70, spanning shows performed in New York, Boston, Detroit, LA and Copenhagen. This 40th anniversary reissue is on emerald vinyl and features 'Light My Fire (including Graveyard Poem)', 'Moonlight Drive', and 'Love Me Two Times', among other Doors hits and favourites.

Review: It's hard to believe there was a time when a band as culturally important as The Doors were still trying to make it, but even after their debut album came out in January 1967 there was a brief patch where they were still little known outside their stomping ground in LA. A couple of months later, they held a three-night stint at The Matrix in San Francisco playing to threadbare crowds, but luckily the sound engineer had the foresight to properly mic up and capture all of the performances and the recordings have since become a massive part of the band's legacy. As well as the classic tracks from the first album, and a few of their later hits, there are a generous dose of covers and obscurities which get a first-time airing thanks to this new expanded and authoritative five-LP edition, with the generous inclusion of an extra 7" with a hidden gem that will blow the minds of lifelong ardent fans, of which there are more than a few.

Review: In July 1969 The Doors played two concerts to packed audiences at the Aquarius Theatre on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood, California. In addition, the day after the two concerts, The Doors used the Aquarius Theatre stage, still loaded with their equipment from the night before, to conduct a private rehearsal. Both of these concerts, as well as the private rehearsal, were recorded. Bright Midnight Records will release four titles made from these Aquarius Theatre recordings; this is the first of these titles. This 10-track single disc of recordings made during these two July 1969 Aquarius theatre concerts contains tracks which have been selected by Bruce Botnick and the band.

Review: Every once in a while, rather than performing the usual encore, if the audience was really lucky, Jim Morrison would throw away the time limits and perform until he couldn't stand up anymore (Jim had this thing about limits -- he liked them best broken.) This performance at Detroit's Cobo Arena was such a night. It easily contains the longest Doors' set ever performed and extends about an hour over the standard concert running time during this period. It was performed when The Doors were working on L.A. Woman in Los Angeles. On the weekends the band would go out and play. Morrison Hotel, the previous album that critics were hailing as a comeback, provided such songs as 'Roadhouse Blues'. 'You Make Me Real' and 'Ship Of Fools.'
