Review: Having been responsible for the inaugural release on Reincarnations way back in 2008, our favourite cosmopolitan house duo Tokyo Black Star return to the imprint for a double dose of deep set analogue business. The Slam Jam EP is the duo's dedication to Volcov and the Slam Jam family, and will delight fans of the Tokyo Black Star output on SK/Innervisions. There's a dusty sheen to the opening moments "Sotto Marino" as off kilter drums are slowly implemented amidst the hazy backdrop of pads. A deft swerve into twinkling chords and heavenly keys which act as the prelude to a lovely chugging analogue arpeggio which glides as the track ascends to its finale. Flipside endeavour "Black Box" brings the rowdiness, splaying a wormhole like acid line around rough beats that constantly threaten to break out into jerking, jacking mayhem. Big tip!

Review: Terrel Wallace, AKA First Word Records regular Tall Black Guy, seemingly has a thing for journeys. His first album was called 8 Miles To Moneart, and this follow-up is loosely based around the idea of a musical train ride. Let's Take A Trip is certainly an enjoyable excursion, chock full of dreamy hip-hop instrumentals, head-nodding workouts, hazy grooves, dreamy neo-soul jams, jazzy interludes, and snappy rap cuts. Highlights whizz by like landscapes seen from a train window, and include the glimpse-and-you'll-miss-it shuffle of '80s Babies hook-up "Don't Box Me In", the sumptuous hip-hop soul of Moonchild collaboration "I Will Never Know", and the dreamily soulful closer, "Peace & Love".

Review: Black Box are thoroughly rinsing dubstep to find some of the most exciting producers out there at the moment. It's impressive. What's more impressive still is that they can switch from intricate, deeply emotive artists like Author to people like Gantz here, who plays it cool, calm and razor sharp. Crisp and methodical with only a hint of tape hiss mixed in with his hard echoing beats, Gantz clearly comes from the school of "less is more". It works a treat. Thelem's remix adds percussive layers to create his own distinct stamp but the effect is the same - deep dubstep like this needs space to work in. When it's worked as well as this, the effect is stunning.

Review: Who doesn't love the White Stripes? One can quite predictably measure a band's impact on commercial music history by way of just how many full-blown reissues they've released, many of which aim to repackage and represent albums to their fullest, most honest effect. By that metric, this ubiquitous duo are more than certainly going down in history; Elephant, the Stripes' fourth album, is lent the sonic perfection and signature packaging it deserves, with Analogue Productions and Third Man Records teaming up for the ultimate reissue edition here. They present in UHQR format on Clarity Vinyl this modern rock cornerstone, limited to 10,000 copies. It comes with gold foil numbered jackets, housed in a premium slipcase with a wooden dowel spine.
