Review: Legendary dub head Mad Professor manage to turning his mixing desk into an instrument in its own right. He coded all manner of heady and futurist sounds of it it by twisting nobs and playing with faders in a way no one had before and fee have managed to recreate ever since. He has turned his hand to reworking countless classic albums as well as turning out his own heart works, not least this album that was originally released in 1984. Ariwa Sounds (The Early Sessions) captures his work with artists like Errol Sly, Rock A Way & Sister Audrey and Sergeant Pepper, all of who he left with his magic dub touch.

Review: Matisyahu hosts the annual Festival of Light towards the end of the year and it was there on December 22 back in 2022 that this Live in Brooklyn album was recorded. As well as featuring plenty of live takes on his own much-loved gems like 'One Day' and 'King Without A Crown', he also tackles a few tasteful covers that were penned written by his son Laivy, and which they performed in unison. There was also a visual recording of this show made and available to find online, which is well worth doing while you sink into the sounds that came at the end of a 15-stop tour.

Review: This essential reissue presents a rare collection of dub instrumental reggae tracks recorded by Tommy McCook (who you may know as the sax man from super ska outfit The Skatalites) and Bobby Ellis (who played the trumpet for dub legends The Upsetters) in 1977. Originally licensed to Grove Music, this still remarkable album features renowned musicians such as Sly and Robbie, Ansel Collins on organ, Clinton Fearon from The Gladiators on lead guitar, and Bernard Harvey of The Wailers on piano. The recordings took place at Channel One and were mixed at King Tubby Studio and every single tune cuts deep and with great authenticity.

Review: Noel Phillips aka. Echo Minott opens up the Mango Tree Showcase with a rallying cry to conquer Babylon. Such a claim encapsulates the vibe of this record, one of several to grace and immortalise the Dub Master Clash project: a 2016 concept that saw and heard several dub producers "battle it out", so to speak. A solid friendship was thus born between the Jamaican and the young Clermont-Ferrand producers; and from these so-called "reverb and echo clashes" came the first 12" maxi of the series, 'This World Is Inna Mess'. You don't hear that one here, though: instead, the Dub Shepherds have since met with Echo Minott, who greeted them at the Bat Records studio with a further bagful of dubs and roots from the time - all of which make up the Mango Tree showcase.

Produced by Winta James, often alongside Mortimer himself, this album explores a rich tapestry of personal experiences and musical styles. From Within offers a journey through Mortimer's life, reflecting his loves, struggles, and the guidance he's found in his Rastafarian faith and family. Review: This Best Of The Morwells album originally landed back in 1981 but has not degraded in any way over the ensuring 40+ years. It is a superb collection of vocal roots that first came on the American label Nighthawk Records and might be best known for standout hits like 'In God We Trust' and 'Africa' as well as 'Educate Your Mind.' The lyrics muse on plenty of still relevant socio-political topics while riding on nice deep rhythms with earthy drums and meandering leads. Review: For their first full-length reissue, Canopy Records brings new life to Oppressor, a rare 1987 album by Nigerian artist Myke Moul. Long a cult favourite due to its genre-blending style and hard-to-find status, this remastered edition corrects past audio issues and gives the album the sound quality it always deserved. From the opening notes of the title track, Oppressor sets a tone that's both breezy and politically aware, a mid-tempo groove riding on synth-reggae rhythms with a soulful message woven in. The album, shaped in part by reggae icon Majek Fashek and later reimagined in France with a roster of versatile session players, stands out for its seamless mix of styles: island-leaning reggae, glossy boogie, and moments that feel like they could have soundtracked a Mediterranean sunset. "Shadows in the Rain" dips into an 80s synth-funk groove, while "Heading for the Top" is a shimmering, bass-forward boogie cut, setting the tone for a collection that flits back and forth between reggae, funk and boogie.
