Review: Second time around for Julianna Barwick and Rafael Anton Irisarri's lauded contribution to the THESIS label's series of collaborative 10-inch singles. The 2017 set has been in high demand since it first appeared in stores, and with a limited number available outside the US for the first time we're expecting it to sell out in double-quick time. Musically, it's one of the most picturesque things that Irissari has been involved in. The untitled opener delivers a near perfect fusion of layered improvised vocals and wispy ambient electronics, while the track that follows brilliantly builds to a crescendo of Tangerine Dream style arpeggio melodies, densely layered textures and acid-esque motifs. The flipside opener is a more softly spun, deep ambient soundscape, while the EP's closing cut is sparkling, spacey and hugely alluring.

Review: Osaka-based ambient/dub/digital reggae fusionist (and sometime Tapes collaborator) 7FO links with vocalist NTsKi on this loved-up single "D'Ya Hear Me!". In its original form, it's opaque and saucer-eyed, with NTsKi adding dewy-eyed vocals to a 7FO riddim that cannily joins the dots between dreamy ambient pop, lo-fi digital reggae and cheery electronica. 7FO's inventive, colourful and gleefully innocent-sounding backing track can be heard in full on the instrumental "Karaoke Version". Heavier digi-dub flavours are provided on the superbly out there and spacey Bim One Production remix, while the CVN rework re-imagines the track as an off-kilter chunk of cheery experimental pop.

Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from the THESIS label, namely beautifully presented 10" singles featuring fresh collaborations between artists who have never worked together before. The label's latest missive brings together two long-established musicians: neo-classical composer Clem Leek and ambient/krautrock fusionist Mark Peters. The pair begin with the crackling, glacial beauty of 'Overhill', where twinkling piano motifs rise above stately ambient chords, before channelling the long-distance loneliness of the lockdown era on the wonderfully melancholic 'Loyola'. Glistening melodies and reverb-laden chords mingle with Leek's piano on 'Half Day', while 'Cawthorne' is a bubbly ambient treat.

Review: A new Vatican Shadow release is always greeted with near adoration here at Juno Towers. Dominick Fernow's shadiest guise is still his best work, and this is especially true when his has 2 slabs of vinyl with which to express his ideas. As you can imagine, Luxor Necropolitics is a lingering, tenebrous cloud of industrial electronics and contained power noise. The moments that do transform into techno are still made up of the same rough materials that characterise all Vatican Shadow track, and that is a pale, unforgiving glow of sounds that never seem to get repetitive.
