Review: The Explosion is a trio, headed up by Versatile founder Gilbert "Glib'r" Cohen, that can trace its' roots back to Chateau Flight's wonderful 2014 covers of vintage Terry Riley material. Since then, the combo has been meeting for nightly jam sessions, some of the results of which can be seen on this superb debut full-length. Rooted in experimental, atmospheric ambience but with regular nods towards American minimalism, kosmiche, dub techno and acid electronica, the album's six tracks are evocative, imaginative, dreamy and intensely beautiful. While intellectual and well thought-out, the most striking feature of The Explosion is the heady, intoxicating feel of the music; even at its' creepiest (as on the low-slung, "Disco Blind"), it's an album that bristles with tuneful intent.
