Review: The album Ars Moriendi, from avant Polish trio Bastarda is back in print on vinyl for now! Medieval minimalistic jazz for clarinet, contrabass clarinet and cello. This is the very limited edition repressing of this wonderful album, in an edition of just 73 copies. Each 180gm record comes in the same modified, heavyweight recycled kraft board jacket that the original standard vinyl version came in. This time the cover image on the front of these jackets has been printed on fine art paper, adhered, and then hand spattered with blood red ink, hand stamped and further manually distressed! On the back of each jacket is a copy of the original, large 2 sided textual insert, tipped onto the jacket with black corner mounts. Better grab one fast!

Review: We are extremely excited to bring you this first album from French composer/pianist, Julien Boulier, entitled, "A Film Not Yet Made". Just as the title suggests, the nine cinematically indicative and modern classically influenced tracks on this record will indeed transport you into a mysterious celluloid fantasy of sorts...of places and people not yet filmed, of emotions not yet brought to the inner screens of your mind. At times ethereal, and at others dramatic...the piano and other instrumentations ebb and flow in a filmic stream of beautiful dreams and imagery...fairytale like...windswept...romantic...and ultimately grandiose and life affirming. Put this music on and begin filming...!

The Agnostic
The Agnostic (hand-numbered lathe cut heavyweight clear vinyl LP limited to 70 copies)
Cat: TRS 092. Rel: 23 Oct 20

Review: IHVH is the duo composed of Mark Van Hoen of Locust fame, and violinist and fellow Touch artist, Zachary Paul. This is their first album together. Entitled, "The Agnostic", this album is an electro-acoustic excursion of sorts into the often obscure worlds of mystical religions of our times. The Kabbalah, the Indian mystics, the Christian church...the moods of these belief systems and more, and their sounds as well, are sampled and referenced throughout these 10 tracks. With a mix of real instrumentation, including the violin playing of Zachary Paul and the cello, bass and viola played by guest musicians on some of the tracks, and the many electronic treatments created by Mark Van Hoen including the sounds of insects, African drumming, liturgical droning, and classical and operatic samples...this portentous and mysterious, at times dark, but overall spiritually absorbing album is an imaginary voyage into the realms of Agnosticism, and it's insinuations into the other major religions of the world. This is the listing is for the limited edition 12" lathe cut record version of The Agnostic. It comes in an edition of only 70 hand worked copies. Please be aware that this deluxe, lathe cut record version listed here has 7 tracks on it. Both the CD and digital versions have an extra 3 tracks on them. Each of these high quality, clear, hand cut records with its 7 tracks comes in a beautifully modified, heavyweight recycled chipboard jacket. On the cover of each jacket is its own uniquely original, tipped on, industrialized and hand collaged 100+ year old religious images from a book illustrated by master Gustave Dore. The engravings have been collaged/modified with hundreds of painstakingly hand cut, equally ancient industrial engravings of gears, machine parts, chains and other suggestive pieces, all cut out with scissors and knife over a period of days. Flip this collage up, and underneath is the textual credit sheet, archivally printed on fragile vintage paper of an equal age. On the back of each record jacket is a modified chart from a book on ancient mystical religions, also printed on the same old paper to match, and each is surrounded by extensive hand stamping created with a vintage set of French symbolist rubber stamps. Each record with its high quality, printed center labels comes in a black polylined inner sleeve, and the entire package comes in an outer heavyweight poly sleeve. As usual, the lathe cut records were hand cut in real time by Michael Lawrence at Bladud Flies, in Wales, UK.

Review: It's clearly a Scandinavian thing, as Finland's Lau Nau and Sweden's Matti Bye team up to bring us a work of refined, minimalistic beauty - contemporary classical that speaks directly to the heart and soul, even if it often chooses to use sparse words. Ever elegant, it impresses from beginning to end and isn't shy of trying to surprise us, hence the arpeggiated refrains of 'Le Premiere Jour Dans L Lune'; the loudest thing here and in many ways sonic centrepiece of the whole album. Elsewhere things are softer and more reserved, but no less accomplished. 'Earth Shadow' is darker, or at least more introverted, while 'Cloud Circles' somehow comes across as both desolate and inviting, and the twinkling keys and chimes of 'Ile Disparu' present another high point of subtle intensity, an overture that only fully reveals itself once you are neck-deep in its power.

Review: The album "Signals" by Lau Nau & Matti Bye will be available in 3 distinct physical versions. This is the Deluxe Limited Edition version in an edition of 75 unique copies. It comes in an absurdly over-the-top modified, heavyweight recycled chipboard jacket. On the front of each jacket is an archivally printed photo on vintage scrapbook paper of a man in the mid 1960's, plugged into a bank of electrical components that were designed at the time by my father Kennan Herrick. He was an electrical engineer, inventor, neon/kinetic artist and Tesla coil builder. Loosely attached across the bottom of the photo is an actual old printout of signal waves from some obscure measuring device, each one unique. The artist's names and album title have been typed out on an ancient typewriter and attached to the jacket by hand.

On the reverse side of each jacket is an assembled collage of sorts, also loosely taped and attached (so be very careful please!), of original hand written papers and diagrams, blueprints, transparencies, schematics, punch cards and artwork designs created by and belonging to Mr. Herrick. These have been somewhat modified by me with hand stamping etc as well. Inside the record jacket comes the 180gm "Icebreaker" colored vinyl in its inner black poly lined sleeve. Attached to each inner sleeve is a colorful hand printed textual picture insert, and along with the record in the jacket comes a stapled bunch of 3-4 other original technical papers belonging to and written/drawn by my father. Finally...each record jacket is carefully bound with a length of copper electrical wire, and then comes in its own outer poly sleeve.

As usual no two copies of this version are alike, and the one that you receive may or may not match the copies pictured.

Review: We are excited to bring you this wonderful new album from mysterious Russian artist Non Dolet (it does not hurt), entitled V. This release comes in the form of an 8 track, 45rpm EP of electronically treated, Slavic folk tinged melancholy, and pseudo film soundtrack infused beauty of a most original sounding nature. Behind the twinkling and chiming echoes, the haunting dubby rhythms, and the nostalgic nursery rhymes of her native Russia shine through in the uplifting and haunting drama that unfolds across these beautiful tracks. This release comes in two vinyl versions, in a total of only 100 copies. This listing is for the standard version in an edition of only 50 copies, in heavyweight, recycled kraftboard jackets, with corner mounted, hand worked double sided archival print on the front. The artists name is mounted beneath the photo, and is in the form of a raised embossed b/w label made with a 1970's handheld Dymo-Mite Tapewriter.

Please lend your ears to this new pastoral and nostalgic beauty from Swoop And Cross, aka London based Portuguese composer/musician, Ruben Vale. Like a soundtrack to a melancholic and romantic silent film from long past, the tracks on Stories Of Disintegration wind their way into your subconscious, softly easing you into a state of memory and longing. As though you are watching your life on rewind...and waiting to hear what happens in the music. The languid and dreamy piano motifs are counter balanced by more rhythmic electronic flourishes, and together they form this very contemplative set of sounds. Put this album on late at night with someone that you love!

Review: In Spanish the word "remanso" (backwater) comes from the Latin "remansum"...meaning the action of stopping and remaining in place...especially in an inherently idyllic place, where beautiful music such as this can be heard! As Mario himself says about his new album... "I had some material from past electroacoustic "academic" works that I know would be great to use in my ambient music. These were created through long manipulation processes of real sounds (objects and instruments). In other words they are custom made sounds. My basic inspiration for "Remansum" came from listening to and improvising on this sound material. The improvisations were on a piano, and I tried to find melodic patterns and harmonies that would go well with these sound textures. My music has many influences, and I could point in particular to the Impressionists (Debussy, Satie ...), where the focus in on mood and atmosphere. I aimed to combine these impressionistic elements with sparse minimalistic melodies and distinct electronic sounds." This first deluxe, limited edition version of Remansum, in an edition of only 75 copies, comes in the form of a hand made, 12" lathe cut record in an extensively handworked, heavy weight, recycled chipboard jacket. Each jacket has been uniquely collaged on the front with torn and reassembled photographs from a 100 year old book on travels in Spain, each in the form of an original and architecturally modified and mysterious landscape. Each collage is then surrounded by a frame of tissue thin vellum that has been painstakingly sized, cut out and meticulously applied. The vellum is then stamped with a set of vintage, pastoral French rubber stamps, and each is individually hand titled/stamped as well. On the back of each jacket are other abstracted corner bits of pastoral photos with more extensive floral stamping, and each has adhered to it a black 5' envelope containing the factory pressed CD of the album as well. Centered on this black envelope is a smaller antique envelope, also hand modified, and each of these contains a unique, negative transparency from a museums collection of the arts of antiquity. Each record comes in it's own black poly-lined sleeve. The supremely clean sounding and highest quality lathe cut records were as ever manufactured by Michael Lawrence at Bladud Flies, in Wales, UK...

A wonderful and enchanted record! I enjoyed all the sonic blends of piano resonance and subtle sounds throughout the album. There is an analogy with guitarists who use echo and pedal volume (like Fred Frith from Henry Cow for example, Steve Hackett from Genesis or David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) who "let the sound unfold". And the end piece in the "style of Bolero by Ravel" which concludes this impressionist work would have been appreciated by the group of 6, or the Arcueil School of Honneger, Milhaud or even Sauguet under the impulse of both the great Satie and the most endearing musician, and the most 'surrealist' of his time, the solitary, minimalist dandy, and the master of musical impressionism, Debussy himself.

Review: Time Released Sound is hosting the American release of "Intrications Quantiques" in our usual over-the-top fashion. We have taken the wonderfully original, standard vinyl jacket artwork by artist Caroline Lysiak, and deconstructed it, in order to add a degree of dimensionality to the 75 painstakingly hand worked jackets that we are making for the Deluxe Limited Edition version. We have started by printing the cover artwork ourselves on heavyweight fine art paper, on an archival printer. We then neatly cut the heads of Aphrodite out of each of their cosmic planetary backgrounds, and sewed antique lace trim into her hair on an industrial sewing machine. We then offset, and re-mounted the cut pieces on heavyweight, recycled Kraftboard record jackets, after first attaching behind them a variety of different sorts of colorful and metallic Japanese fine art papers as backgrounds to add to the overall dimensional effect. A small black stick has been added to the head of Aphrodite on each, to turn it into a mask of sorts. On the back of each record jacket is a mounted, actual page from a rare and obscure, highly detailed photographic Atlas of the moon...each print is uniquely different, and shows one small section of the lunar surface, with textual references for the lunar seas and mountains and valleys pictured as well. Around each of these prints the jacket has been further modified with spray painted white planets, and then extensively hand stamped with stars, and clouds that pass across the surface of the moon. Within each of these beauties is the vinyl in an inner black poly lined sleeve, a color 4 page printed insert, and the actual backside of the beautiful standard version jacket. The whole package then comes in an outer polysleeve.

As usual each copy of this release is unique, and the one you receive may or may not be the one pictured.

Review: Our first release of year 2021 sees the return of much beloved English musician Orla Wren. Recorded in, and inspired and infused by his home in the wilds of the Scottish countryside, his first album in 5 years is entitled "The Blind Deaf Stone" and is a paean to a certain pastoralism, and to the life of this somewhat secluded artist. The four long tracks are distinct excursions into a personal landscape of organic and broken melodic meanderings...the slapping spokes of a bicycle ridden through the tall grass, the swish of the walking stick, the buzz of the fly on the manure and the mysteriously subtle drone like chattering and burbling of the deepest countryside. Plaintive...melancholic...beatific...this is the loveliest of soundtracks to a simple life well lived away from the maddening crowd, and without regret. This is the very limited CD version in an edition of just 100 copies. In a lovely 4 panel digipak, featuring vintage photos of fellow animals long gone. This release was also available in a limited edition, double 10" lathe cut record edition.
