Tangible Waves

Notes: The IMDI HEART module is the central module for using IMDI (the "internal MIDI" transmision) within AE modular.

It receives MIDI, either by a TRS adapter, or via USB-C (the module appears as Class-compliant MIDI device on a computer); the incoming data is splitted up to 16 outputs carrying IMDI data. Each output contains the information of one (or more) MIDI channel(s) and a freely assignable note range, in the standard MIDI data rate or at a much higher data rate. Realtime data, like MIDI start/stop/clock is provided as gate/trigger outputs; the 1/96th clock can be divided to other, slower clock rates.

The outputs can drive then modules that can receive IMDI, like the micro oscillators (uOSC, uFM, uPOLY) and other upcoming IMDI capable modules.

The 16 chains of IMDI controlled modules you get with IMDI HEART is enough for quite complex setups, so in most cases, one IMDI HEART will be enough.

Notes: The SELECTOR module is an electronic switch for any kind of signals to select one of up to eight sources or sending a signal to a specific destination (it's bidirectional). It is also known as "Sequential switch" in former modular synths. The SELECTOR has 8 inputs for any kind of signals, no matter if audio CV or gate, and one of them can be routed to an output in different ways: Either by a knob, or by a CV, or by clock pulses to advance by 1 plus a reset trigger input. By a switch it can be set to operate as a dual unit with 4 inputs each.

It's a quite useful tool for more complex patches, e.g. for selecting between different sequencers, or sending a modulation source to varying "receivers".

Notes: The uDISTORTION creates diode based distortion in different modes and adjustable drive.

Notes: The uFM is an oscillator module, that is focused on FM synthesis.

It's basically a two-operator FM synthesis, but with extended functionality: The operator waveforms can be either sine waves (classic FM), or four other different combinations of non-sinewave waveforms, that produce a much broader palette of sounds beyond the classic sinewave based FM synthesis.

The MOD DPT knob controls the modulation depth; in combination with a button press also the multiplier of the modulating operator can be defined.

Both parameters can be controlled also by CV and also via IMDI by MIDI controllers. The pitch can be controlled via 1V/octave CV or also via IMDI e.g. from a DAW

Additional to the normal audio output a suboctave output with a squarewave is provided, and a third output with the mix of the primary oscillator signal and the suboctave.

Quite a lot for such a tiny module, right?

Notes: The uOSC is a super versatile oscillator module, that also can be controlled via IMDI.

It offers a variety of waveforms/sounds, depending on the chosen mode:

Sawtooth, can be changed to a detuned group of three sawtooth waves
Squarewave with adjustable pulsewidth
Triangle and true Sinewave
THREE different wavetables, each one with it's unique, smooth blend between 16 waveforms
The pitch can be controlled via 1V/octave CV or the brand new IMDI signal (see IMDI HEART for more info).

The waveform shape can be controlled via a separate CV and/or also with a MIDI controller via the IMDI-HEART module.

Notes: The uPOLY is a polyphonic, 4-voice sawtooth oscillator module.

It can work either as a source of pre-defined chords in major or minor scale; or it can be controlled via IMDI as a paraphonic oscillator with a common envelope.

Each voice consists of two sawtooth oscillators, that can be detuned by a certain amount; this makes this module most suitable for smooth pad sounds.

A switch changes between minor and major scale; the FREQ knob and the CV input goes through the chords of the chosen scale.

Another feature of the module is a chorus effect that can be mixed into the output.

When controlled by IMDI, the possibilities are even more:

Notes can be played individually
A common volume envelope is applied to the sound; Attack and Decay time can be controlled via MIDI controller messages from your DAW or MIDI controller
An LFO with adjustable rate and depth can be applied
All parameters can be controlled by MIDI controllers via the IMDI HEART module; over one single patch cable! (Regarding IMDI, see IMDI HEART for more info).
