A Good Time (3:28)
You're Gonna Love Me (3:44)
Review: The Super Disco Edits stable returns to action with a new set of edits, two disco-leaning versions of B & The Family's disco classics. The first is the instantly recognisable "A Good Time", a disco bomb like no other and exactly the sort of tune that makes people think of the word 'party'. On the flip, "You're Gonna Love Me" is more of a boogie monster reinterpreted and juiced up with some extra electro power in its low-end and, of course, its chunky beats and percussion to create that added dance floor effect. Tha bomb!

We'll Be Together (3:27)
I Need You (2:58)
Review: Four years ago, Super Disco Edits unearthed a stash of previously unreleased solo recordings by sometime Revelation member (and session vocalist on countless classic disco and boogie hits) Phillip Ballou. Having released just two of those songs - the brilliant 'Ain't Nothing Like The Love' and 'Nothing For Real'- back in 2017, they've finally decided to offer-up two more. A-side 'We'll Be Together' is particularly impressive, with Ballou adding his silky, effortlessly soulful vocals to a sparkling backing track that adds spacey synthesizer sounds and cosy female backing vocals to a Philly Soul inspired groove. Over on the flip, 'I Need You' is a sugary but heartfelt ballad in which Ballou is accompanied by little more than an electric piano and a few sustained synthesizer chords. It's a spine-tingling combination.

Are You For Real (3:55)
Review: These previously unreleased tracks from Revelations member Phillip Balou were offered to Super Disco Edits by one-time British soul journalist David Nathan, who worked alongside the musician and band mate John Simmons at the tail end of the 1970s. A-side "Ain't Nothing Like The Love", a gospel inspired slice of sumptuous soul complete with jazzy guitar solos and an evocative lead vocal from Ballou, is undoubtedly the pick of the two tracks and well worth anyone's hard-earned cash. That said, deep and sugary flipside "For Real" - a thrillingly evocative slow jam full of gospel style choral backing vocals, sumptuous electric piano and sweeping, synthesized strings - is almost as good.

Review: Back around the early 1970's, Bell Telephunk was formed around the New Jersey area. Some members moved to Cleveland, Ohio where the group performed in local bars and clubs at the time. The band disbanded early on but the name lay dormant for a few years until round the mid '70s; when Michael Calhoun and a few others decided to rejuvenate the name again. They played often at the Kinsman Grill in Cleveland where they cut their teeth. They ventured into the studio just once and record a series of six songs: crossover ghetto soul of the highest order and on their newly formed Kinsman Records label. This previously unissuedversion courtesy of Super Disco Edits.

My Next Step (3:19)
Review: Bill F Whitten is undoubtedly best known as the fashion designer behind some of the most arresting outfits worn by Michael Jackson, the Jacksons and Stevie Wonder. During the mid-to-late '70s, he was also briefly the leading member of an eight-piece Atlantic disco outfit called Between The Two. While the band performed live around the U.S in 1977, they never released any music, despite making studio recordings of some of their songs. Here, two of those "lost songs" make it to vinyl to the first time. We're particularly enjoying the driving, celebratory, sing-along disco of A-side "Take a Little Time", though the jazzier, slower and more musically expansive love song "My Next Step" is also impressive.

Horizon's Theme (Pt 2) (2:49)
Review: Prior to this year, funk connoisseurs and collectors have known only one record from the 70s Bay Area funk troupe Brass Horizon. That was "We Just Want To Play" and it's been known to go over $1500 in the past. 39 years after its release Super Disco Edits have incredibly unearthed an unreleased gem! So large it takes over both sides, "Horizon's Theme" is a groove heavy instrumental jammed with that classic laid back Berkley vibe where all players get a chance to shine. Part one is all about the organs while part two lets the horns tear the groove a new one. What a find.

Stay Off The Moon (2:33)
Review: Bill Brown and Al Hall jr met in 1971 in south central LA and shared the same flat as jazz man Doug Carn and Brownstone vocalist Billy Wilson. They often played together and some of the sessions gave rise to the two hard to find tracks offered up here. 'Dreamworld Fantasie' is a first release of an unissued 1977 disco and soul gem that muses on how we'd all like our lives to be - and right now such escapist vibes have never been more in need. Flip it over and you'll find a rare though previously released 1971 single 'Stay Off The moon', which delivers a poignant political message that resonates to this day.

Love Under The Apple Tree (3:23)
Fool-ology (3:24)
Review: As with many of Super Disco Edits recent releases, "Love Under The Apple Tree" was never released when Bill Brown and the Soul Injection recorded it way back in 1971. While the track was later re-recorded with a different vocalist and backing band, this is the first time soul and funk heads have been able to purchase Brown and company's arguably superior original take. Interestingly, it was recorded at a high-profile Hollywood studio and you can tell. Brown's lead vocal, the female backing singers and the assembled players - drums, bass, glistening guitars and hazy horns - all sparkle thanks to a genuinely high quality production. This isn't quite the case with the spacey and bustling flipside "Fool-ology", which sounds like (an albeit high quality) demo recording.

Review: R&B vocalist Carman Bryant played throughout the United States and was hugely popular. York, Pennsylvania born and raised, she recorded 'Midnight Star' way back when with production taken care of by Cecil DuValle of the Teddy Pendergrass band. The tune never made it out as it was lost when the producer moved to England but has recently been found and gets released here. On the back side is 'Take A Chance,' a duet by Doug Payne and Carman that was recorded in the same sessions at Alpha International Studios. Both are heart rending soul jewels.

Review: Recorded from Rudy's homemade studio in Hampton Virginia before he cut "searching for love" on harvest records around 1983, he did this wonderful modern synth winner. With Rudy just having one pass on a Reel of this song, we remastered it a little at The Super Disco HQ to give it a brighter feel. Sure its pretty lo-fi but the quality of the song writing playing and melodies are more than enough to let is see the joys of a turntable. This is once again a limited press one of run of music

Review: This sizzling new 7" from Super Disco Edits serves up Dayton's 'Sky's The Limit' which is a red hot slice of previously unissued 1982 soul.Hall of fun famers Dayton were a well established and popular group with a lush sound that was couched in soul but with funky grooves, boogie basslines and hints of disco shimmer and shine. This gorgeous single has all that and more including a big, buttery vocal. It is an epic, guaranteed floor filler which on the flip side has 'Sky's The Limit (long version)' for extra devastation.

Review: You can always rely on Super Disco Edits for exactly that. The long-running label's 68th such serving is from the Ebony Rhythm Funk Campaign and features a couple of their previously unreleased joints. Opener '69 Cents' brings slick and sleek afro drumming with some splendid horn sections powering things along. A smooth and soulful vocal ride in amongst the drum grooves and takes you on a fine trip. On the reverse is 'That Is Why,' which slows things down a little and gets more loved up. The backing vocals lend the whole thing an air of class as the lining trumpets soar and the mellifluous chords sink you in deep.

Forward Motion (3:53)
Review: The Ellis Hall Group's upcoming 7" release, 'Music, Sweet Music,' on Super Disco Edits is sure to find its way into many DJ sets. Originally recorded in 1978, this release is the second in a series where the label unearthed hidden gems from the archives. Ellis Hall Jr. and his Boston-based band bring two tracks that didn't make it to their Night Shift TV performance but are now seeing the light. 'Music, Sweet Music' is a breezy, summer anthem reminiscent of the Blackbyrds and Stevie Wonder, packed into a short but sweet 2:38 runtime. On the flip side, 'Forward Motion' offers a funkier vibe with a new wave edge, kicking in with powerful horns, driving drums and infectious melodies. Featuring Ellis Hall on keyboards and vocals, alongside a talented lineup, these tracks are perfect for fans of classic funk and soul.

What Will I Do (2:38)
Review: Found! By the dedicated unearthers-come-preservers over at Super Disco Edits, Ellis Hall Group's original song 'Those Passing Words' appears in vinyl form once more. First cropping up in the summer of 1978, this lively septet lent a restored faith in the modern soul movement of the time, and this was a stirring that perhaps first came about after the band appeared on the TV show Nightshift, as part of which Super Disco Edits first heard this brilliant track. Restored from the original tapes but given a fresh re-rub, the track is paired with 'What Will I Do' on the B-side; despite their rambunctiously bright power-piano chords and sung mentions of being propelled into higher planes of consciousness, the songs were criminally not issued until now; clearly Super Disco are doing God's work.

Try Your Love (4:11)
Close To You (4:03)
Review: Following the success of 1980 disco classic "I Like What You're Doing To Me", Young & Company ended up in a long contract dispute with their label, Brunswick. Co-producer Buddy Hankerson used the time to record a set of tracks with a new collection of musicians, the Shine Band. Sadly, none of these recordings were released at the time, making this Time Capsule 7" from the Super Disco Edits camp something of a red-hot exclusive. Rescued from reel-to-reel tapes found in Hankerson's brother's loft, both "Try Your Love" and "Close To You" are superb. While the latter - a leisurely chunk of boogie-soul that sits somewhere between two other Hankerson produced acts, Aurra and Slave - is impressive, it's the livelier, jauntier A-side (very Young & Company) that makes this 7" so desirable.

Shaker Song
Review: In 1979, the Washington-based Janice Lakers Quintet recorded this fetching demo, beloved for its formal attending to the joy of making music together. With Lakers on vocals, Dick Cady on piano, Mike Edwards on woodwinds, Larry Turner on bass and Fred Taylor on drums, the group delivered two unique covers, each worked into their own signature style. Their take on Seawind's 'He Loves You' strips back the funk, replacing it with a light, effortless glide. Taylor's whisking drums and Turner's steady bassline lay an airy foundation, while Edwards' clarinet and Cady's piano inject bursts of energy mid-song. On the flip, 'Shaker Song' bridges Spyro Gyra's instrumental and Manhattan Transfer's later vocal version; richer in texture, it offered Lakers a chance to explore her vocal range, closing with lively scatting.

For Your Precious Love (4:26)
Review: The latest missive from Mike Theodore and Dennis Coffey's 7th Galaxy label - an imprint run in association with Super Disco Edits chief DJ Sigher - offers up a couple of previously unheard tracks produced by the pair in 1979. They come from J. J. Barnes, a soul singer best known for his 1967 U.S top-ten hit "Baby Please Come Back Home". "Candy" is a totally different beast; a disco-influenced modern soul gem rich in woozy backing vocals, swirling Philly Soul style strings, boogie-powered slap-bass and Barnes' inspired lead vocal. The B-side is an altogether slower and more saccharine affair, as Barnes, Theodore and Coffey conjure up a teary-eyed cover of Jerry Butler classic "For Your Precious Love".

That Someone's U (Jazz Funk instrumental) (4:39)
Review: Reach for the cocktails and turn down the lights because the Super Disco Edits label has a golden groover on its hands here. 'That Someone's U' was actually a track submitted to be a part of the famous Splash LP by Freddie Hubbard, but it never made the cut. Written by Sydney Justin, Sanifu Al Hall and David Shields, it languished on the cutting room floor until it was converted from analogue to digital with a load of other tracks by The La Propinquity. The smooth groove has a steamy sax line, easy-going drums and languid chords that melt the soul.

Review: Imagine being unheard for 35 years. Just sitting there, gathering dust, not a soul knows you even exist. Then bang: along come a crack team of contemporary disco evangelists and restore you to your original recorded splendour. Now stop imagining and start living! This is the reality. Recorded in 1978, both these lavish soul disco cuts ooze authenticity and emotion. Sitting somewhere between Average White Band, Troubleman-era Gaye and Faze O, both cuts are driven by golden falsettos, rich warm orchestration and slick grooves. Super-limited, grab them now or forever sit silently gathering dust.

Bring You Love Closer (3:34)
Review: Over the last couple of years, Super Disco Edits has been responsible for unearthing and releasing previously unheard material from Willie Tee, Brass Horizon and Melton Bolton's Mighty Fire outfit. They've clearly got a great relationship with former Motown songwriter Bolton, as he's handed over two more previously unreleased, disc-era scorchers. "Love On The Shelf" is naturally heart-felt and luscious, with Belton's lead vocals soaring over simmering horns, rolling percussion and a superb, "walking" bassline. Turn to the flip for "Bring Your Love Closer", a seductive chunk of slo-mo soul for those intimate moments. While it lacks the dancefloor credentials of the A-side, it's certainly a smooth and immaculately produced excursion.

Review: Never before released, Sigher's Super Disco Edits have saved two more stunning disco soul cuts from perishing on the reels: Mel's credentials include a lengthy stint at Motown penning songs from The Four Tops and Marvin Gaye while Mighty Fire comprised players from the likes of Stevie Wonder's band and the live band for Motown 25 (during which Michael Jackson first performed the Moonwalk) Both cuts here showcase those heavyweight stripes - "Love" taking a more disco twist while "I Wanna Talk To You About Loving Me" providing raw, soul-drenched end-of-night emotion - it's criminal to think they may have never seen the light of day.

This time out they serve up a superb slice of soul originally recorded in 1971 by The Michicgans, who crafted it in the Don Davis studios and had it engineered by the late great Ed Wolfdrum. Review: The Super Disco Edits camp have pulled off something of a coup here, securing the rights to a previously unissued 1987 cut from studio duo New Jersey Connection, whose sole 1981 single, "Love Don't Come Easy", has long been a favourite of boogie DJs. "Red Light Green Light", featuring the breezy vocals of Cynthia Wilson, sounds like a long lost boogie classic: all sugary-sweet backing vocals, rubbery bass guitar, twinkling '80s soul synthesizer melodies and punchy drum machine percussion. The A-side vocal version is accompanied by a tasty instrumental mix, in which the focus switches to the NJ twosome's superb production. File under: "must have".

Review: No longer dealing in edits, but instead long lost or out of print disco and soul gold, Super Disco Edits turn their focus to the early works of The Plainwrap Band here. These are all tracks produced and arranged by Marvin Augustus that were recorded to a dusty reel that ended up in the hands of producer Stu Gardner. Review: Focusing on less reissued than so far unissued soul music, Super Disco Edits are invigorated to share this blitzing slice of sweet soul by Popeye. Starting 2025 with a killer pair, both these tracks were written in 1978 by James Clifford; in contrast to the Rick Astley limelight-hogger to claim the name, 'Never Gonna Give You Up' is a superior, if more humble record, effortlessly encapsulating the essence of romantic 70s disco-soul. Clifford's vocals feature centre stage, woozing in a kind of acedic listlessness mired in lustful fascination. 'Be My Baby' contrasts with a relative cosmic funk slow jam.

James Reese traversed the label circuit throughout the late 60s and early 70s on a bid to sell his songs but was told that his jazz and soul fusion was "too far ahead of its time". As a result he remained largely unsigned and unreleased. Criminal: both "Fool For Love No More" and "You Can Make It If You Try" are arranged with detail and combine the minor jazz chords create a really strong emotive feel that elevate them from standard paint-by-numbers soul records of the time. Life After Love (4:16)
Sky High (4:23)
Review: Super Disco Edits always does exactly what it says on the tin. This one is another release taken from the Roz Ryan studio reel discovery from 1980. It's produced by the esteemed pair of Mike Theodore and Dennis Coffey and this one opens with a superb two step tune 'Life After Love' that will be huge with rare groove connoisseurs. On the flip is a much more float light and ethereal disco smoother, 'Sky High,' with a big breakdown that really draws you in.

Keep Shining (4:14)
Put Love Back (3:33)
Review: Super Disco Edits decision to focus on releasing previously unissued gems from the disco era has resulted in a string of essential 7" singles. Predictably, this is another must-have. Vocalist and actress Roz Ryan recorded them with producers Dennis Coffey and Mike Theodore in 1980, during a spell in Broadway musical Ain't Misbehavin'. They were destined for a six-track album that was sadly never released. A-side "Keep Shining" is a killer chunk of sing-along jazz-funk/disco/boogie fusion, full of sprightly P-funk synths and punchy horns. Flipside "Put Love Back", on the other hand, is a slow burning delight: a wonderful chunk of boogie-era late night soul shot through with heartbroken emotion. Both tracks are brilliant, in other words.

Funky Way To Treat Me (4:30)
Review: The Roz Ryan studio real reissue series hits a third and final instalment here. This one is another superb piece of previously unissued 2 step soul that will pirouette its way into your heart. It was discovered in 1980 and produced by the mighty Mike Theodore and Dennis Coffey. First up is 'Love Changes' which was also covered by O.C Smith and is a slow and sultry number with buttery but poignant lyrics. Flip it over for the more upbeat, driving and dancefloor ready number that is 'Funky Way To Treat Me' with a production that heightens all the lush disco elements.

I Wanna Be Closer (4:05)
Review: Since turning their back on hush-hush re-edits in favour of issuing obscure or previously unreleased material, the Super Disco Edits label has barely put a foot wrong. Their latest 7" boasts two previously unissued recordings by former Reflections member John Simmons, who later went on to work as Whitney Houston's "creative director". Both tracks were recorded in 1979, originally as demos for a band Simmons was working with. "Safe", in particular, is superb; a jazz-funk-tinged chunk of modern soul rich in cosmic bass, crunchy Clavinet motifs, twinkling electric piano solos and jazzy guitar flourishes. Simmons' vocal, too, is rather special. Flipside "I Wanna Be Closer" is similarly funk-fuelled whilst retaining the smooth, soulful vibe that marked out Simmons' early productions.
