Review: Comet Gain, a British indie pop band formed in 1992, have been crafting their distinctive sound for over three decades. Led by singer-songwriter and guitarist David Christian (aka David Feck/Charlie Damage) and Phil Sutton, their music draws from post-punk and Northern Soul influences. Starting with homemade cassette demos, Comet Gain's releases have spanned labels like Wiiija Records, Fortuna Pop! and Tapete Records. Despite numerous lineup changes, David Christian has remained the constant force behind the band. Early gigs saw them supporting acts like Stereolab, Television Personalities, Bikini Kill and Heavenly, and they also recorded several Peel Sessions, touting a musical style ranging from soul-influenced indie pop to early-80s alternative pop and punk. This 7" record features two tracks recorded in the Spring/Summer of 1996. Side A's 'Only Happy When I'm Sad' and Side B's 'Dreams Of A Working Girl,' appearing on vinyl for the first time, originally debuted on the NME C96 compilation CD.

Review: A new raw, bluesy punk-garage EP from Mick Hampshire - a zoomed-out existential musing on life, dealing in geological process, speck-of-dust sublimes and personal breaking points. Drawing on Hampshire's well-gained experience as the leading member of garage rock four-piece Mickey & The Milkshakes, Mick now goes rogue, dashing the cream shake to the floor, and turning his hand to a mendicant, roughshod, rock-relief style of blues. In 2022, armed only with his Grimshaw semi-acoustic guitar - unamplified - Mick sang and strummed through these four home-recorded, perhaps phone-recorded jams in an unnamed back room. The result is an honest and grievous sound, reaching its exasperated but shoulder-shaking climax on 'When You're In This Mood'.

Review: The Voo-Dooms are back, ready to rattle bones and raise the dead with their signature trashy, Sci-fi Voodoo Caveman Garage Punk sound. Featuring garage-punk legends like Bruce Brand (Thee Headcoats, The Masonics), Dan Whaley (The Dustaphonics), Mark Braby (Vic Goddard & Subway Sect) and Mick Cocksedge (The Untamed), this lineup is a powerhouse of doom. Their latest four-track EP delivers pounding drums, fuzz-soaked guitars, rumbling bass and a dash of theremin. Expect a reworked 'Hangman Stomp' and a gnarly Electric Prunes cover.
