Autonomy (reissue)
Cat: EVA 004R. Rel: 23 Oct 24

Minimal/Tech House
Remember (6:39)
My Soul (6:32)
Promoseus (6:24)
Review: The reissue of Autonomy's self-titled release is a sought-after gem is a great example of the best of early 2000s house music. On Side-1 'Remember' stands out with its high-energy, melodic house groove, embodying the era's deep, soulful flair. This track exemplifies the advanced soundscapes that defined its time.On Side-2, 'My Soul' is a catchy and forward-thinking house track with a futuristic vibe. Completing the EP is 'Promoseus,' a broken beat track with an almost breakbeat rhythm, showing a diverse range of influences. This reissue is a compelling snapshot of house music's evolution, reflecting both its past innovations and its enduring appeal.

Review: Alan Barratt climbs on board with Evasive and brings with him new production partner, Yann Solo. (Not to be confused with the intergalactic space smuggler with a similar name.) Highly acclaimed DJ and producer Alan Barratt is no stranger to creating top notch productions and some of the quality labels he has already released with include End Recordings, Red Ant, Plastic City, Eukatech and Royal Drums. Alan is well known for his work with Tony Thomas as "The Producers", however his studio sparring partner on this 3-track foray for Evasive is the Parisian born and bred Yann Solo who has been DJing at some of the top clubs and underground parties in Paris whilst also honing his production skills for the past few years. Yann is definitely a name to watch out for, with material also lined up for future release on both Mastiksoul's 4Kenzo label, and DJ Linus's Exun imprint. Alan & Yann team up to deliver three firing cuts "Number Two", "In A Flash" and "Acid Daze". All 3 tracks are slick productions already receiving heavy rotation with club and airplay from all the top boys and girls.

Your Imagination (8:00)
Still So Far Away (Rob Pearson remix) (6:35)
Your Imagination (Rob Pearson Breaks mix) (6:36)
Review: Evasive Records proudly returns to vinyl with a dynamic new release featuring two standout tracks from David Gtronic and Brizman. Colombian-born, Berlin-based David Gtronic is known for his bass-driven, percussive style, with releases on labels like Suara and Monique Musique. Teaming up with Tel Aviv's underground sensation Brizman, now also based in Berlin, the pair deliver an exhilarating EP recorded in the heart of the city. Still So Far Away offers deep sub basslines, acid synths, and hypnotic chords, while Your Imagination brings a funky guitar bassline and an infectious groove. Evasive's Rob Pearson takes on remix duties, infusing his South London retro Tech House style into 'Still So Far Away', while transforming 'Your Imagination' into a tech breaks workout primed for the dancefloor. A must-have for vinyl collectors and fans of cutting-edge electronic music.

Mistaken Identity (7:05)
Pursuit Of Bliss (7:35)
Restless (6:52)
Review: Rob Pearson and Kate Smith are The Inhabitants and 20 years ago this year they put out this still-fresh EP, which, remarkably, was also their debut. It is a perfect fusion of UK tech and Detroit techno that oozes machine warmth and silky synth work for those heady floors. The rickety tech-funk of 'Mistaken Identity' opens up with glitchy drums and reverberating toms, 'Pursuit Of Bliss' has a different kind of squelchy bass funk with futuristic pad work and 'Restless' is a heads down and late night driver. The pair are in the club working in new music so this reissue is a timely one to reintroduce us to their vital sound.

Look Into Your Eyes (6:49)
Chica (7:33)
Twilight Manoeuvres (5:58)
Review: Lee Humphreys and Evasive label head Rob Pearson are Lovable Rogues, a tech house pair with roots in the golden era of that sound which had its home in South London. It was this three track EP back in 1999 that launched their label and 23 years later there is still plenty of clamour for it. 'Look Into Your Eyes' kicks off with thumping kicks and crispy hi hats, 'Chica' is more playful with freaky synth sounds and a hurried rhythm that helps elevate your rush while 'Twilight Manoeuvres' closes down with spaced out cosmic tech vibes and plenty of mind-melting motifs. Classic tackle.

Thursday (6:27)
Review: Evasive Records are still going strong after an initial founding in 1999. Run by DJ and producer Rob Pearson, a staple figure of Southeast London's tech house scene at its underground apogee, Evasive's take on the style is an authentic, diversive example of the genre's truest origins. Lovable Rogues is Pearson in collaboration with fellow tech pioneer Lee Humphreys; this is their second EP together, a special follow-up release (now reissued), not least since it logically follows on from the very EP that launched Evasive, 'Look Into Your Eyes / Chica / Twilight Manoeuvres'. Made by the pair in the deepest rural German sticks, the 'Interger' EP betrays tech house's early indebtedness to broken beat, acid jazz and electro, the B2 'Thursday' coming as the tricky favourite here.

Zebraz
Review: In 2003, deep in Croydon's Online Studios, the roots of proper tech house - we said *proper* tech house - were spreading underground. It was here that Evasive label head Rob joined forces with Simon Copleston, aka. Iteration X, for a fresh collaboration under the new alias Rob & Si. The project followed the underground momentum built by Iteration X's earlier 'Timecheck / Liquid Logic' EP, and merged the individual styles of both into a unified, forward-pulsing, projectile sound. The result was 'Roll One Up / Zebras', the 2003 two-tracker reminiscent of the sultry out-breaths characterising much of the 2-step garage that would emerge in parallel at the time. 'Zebraz' is an extra-special dubbing; an aposematic m(s)onochrome moving through various echos, stabs and what sound like field recordings of startled wildlife.
