Review: Alex G's real surname is Giannascoli and this is his ninth solo album and fourth for Domino. Hi style is a lush take on rock classics that is heightened by his skills on the production software Garageband. American indie rock colours much of this album with a real tension and melodic beauty in most tunes whiner thoughtful and insular or more acoustic. There is even a hint of industrial rock on 'Blessing' as he muses on environmental collapse while 'No Bitterness' is punchy pop-rock with sleazy texture and plenty of raw emotion.

Review: Animal Collective return with album number eight, their first for Domino. "Strawberry Jam" was recorded by Scott Colburn in Tucson, Arizona. It's an amazing record, which should finally mark some sort of crossover for them. It bears all of their unique and charming hallmarks but with vocals and melody much more to the foreground.

Review: One of Britain's best-loved and most accomplished pop-rock bands are back with another highly anticipated album. The Car is epic on every level with its adventurously designed tunes, lots of grand orchestration and plenty of easy-to-enjoy and enigmatic songs of love but also doubt. The Sheffield outfit's seventh long player was written by frontman Turner at his home in LA and mixes indie and psychedelic rock, baroque, glam and orchestral rock with production largely taken care of by frequent collaborator James Ford of Simian Mobile Disco fame. The title is a nod to the fact that - guess what - there are many references to cars throughout the lyrics.

Review: In 2018 Arctic Monkeys sold out the Royal Albert Hall with a gig raising money for War Child, all proceeds heading for the charity. Reports from the show were excellent, which was to be expected from a band that went from vital enfant terrible to indie headliners while managing to maintain artistic credibility, with frontman Alex Turner now among the most significant figures in UK rock 'n' roll (albeit his side projects, The Last of the Shadow Puppets and Death Ramps, have helped).

Now, two years on, the Sheffield outfit are back with a similar idea, although this time it's a highly sought-after recording from that night, again with the intention of handing over all the cash to War Child. Preceded by sharing a video of the version of '505' they performed at said show, if you've heard that take on the Favourite Worst Nightmare track you know what to expect here. Masters of the live arena, giving it their all.

Review: Although the name Bob Moses would lead one to imagine a hairy, bearded dude making reggae-driven folk ballads in his attic, it actually represents a duo made up of Canadians Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance. The pair moved from British Columbia down to NYC, and have since then been on a steady rise in terms of releases. They were first picked up by New York's Francis Harris, on his own Scissor and Thread imprint, and then they made a jump to the almighty Domino, the label they return to now with their debut LP. Days Gone By follows neatly from where the duo last left off; the album is a fine blend of melancholic, r&b-flavoured vocals and luscious house grooves. The opener "Like It Or Not" and "Talk" are both perfect examples of their deep and ethereal take on the genre, while "Before I Fall" shows their more musical side, a tune that doesn't rely on a 4/4 structure, and instead manages to work a slow hip-hop beat into the same pensive sway that drives most of their previous tracks. All in all, this is a deep and melancholic house album with plenty of twists and turns - it's a keeper!

Review: Riotous Brazilian MC and DJ three-piece Bonde Do Role play baile funk - a flippant, punked-up take on Miami bass developed in Rio's favelas - and yet aren't from Rio. A characteristic of baile funk is its playfulness and mash-up guerrilla-style sampling. Grunge, heavy metal, and cheese were added to the melting pot here. Their SXSW appearances were the talk of post-festival blogs, described in many instances as a "Brazilian Beastie Boys" with their explosive performances and filthy lyrics. "With Lasers" is released on Domino.

Review: Domino continue to back the lashings of Anna Calvi, hailed once by ambient pop lord Brian Eno as "the best thing since Patti Smith". Well her third studio album has arrived, and we say she's actually the best thing since Sinead O'Connor - at least "Hunter" makes us think so. The twice Mercury Prize-nominated artist, it's said, has delivered this album after ending an eight-year relationship that saw her move to France and explore themes of 'pleasure, gender, and sexuality'. "I'm tired of seeing women depicted as being hunted by men," she writes, "I am the hunter. I go out into the world and see it as mine." The alpha within Anna Calvi has arrived.

Review: Peaky Blinders is a saga that will live on in British cultural folklore long after people stop streaming the show itself. And the legacy of arguably the coolest show to come out of the UK in several years is as much to do with the contemporary stylisation of what's essentially a period piece as it is the attitude it exudes. An atmosphere that's distinctly British, to say the least. A key aspect of the overall impact is the soundtrack, and who better to craft the score to this dark, violent, socially-imbalanced, politically-volatile period in English gangster history than Anna Calvi. The high priestess of alternative, brooding, tense rock & roll plucked straight from the depths of surrealism, every pluck and chord seems to intensify the overall feeling, seducing us with a combination of breathy spoken word, operatic contralto, and tense virtuoso guitar playing.

Review: Space western Velvet Underground Charlie and the Chocolate Factory punk funk here we come. Domino reintroduce Liverpool's cherished post-punk pop experimentalists Clinic to a new audience after seven years away from the studio, with this return LP said to reference a long-forgotten 1970s ITV variety show: Wheeltappers and Shunters. With drum machines, guitars, synths and a flurry of other experimentations and hypnotic, minimalistic grooves painting some alternative Wizard of OZ imagery, highlights include the offbeat, psychedelic surf punk of "Rubber Bullets" to the undeniably phat bassline and catchy vocals of "Mirage". Think Alan Vega and Martin Rev meets Ray Manzarek and a haunted vision of '70s psych rock. A feeling that you've probably not experienced in some time, if ever.

Review: It's been almost five years since Four Tet's last LP. However, you could never accuse Kieran Hebden of being lazy, having spent the years since 2005's Everything Ecstatic working on a number of EPs, collaborations and mixes, not to mention enough remixes to keep any student going throughout their perpetual revision period.

His fifth studio album to date forms a combination of minimal dance and amalgamations of sounds and ideas from his career so far. It serves a timely reminder of the joy of genre mashing in what is one of the first important releases of the new decade.

After the delicate and disjointed vocal-led opener 'Angel Echoes' we move into what will be Four Tet's next single, the hypnotic nine minute colossal, 'Love Cry.' Jazz percussion is layered over a sprawling house sentiment that builds exponentially throughout the saga. The aptly named 'Circling' uses hazy synthesizers to progresses from a soft, folk-like beginning to flamboyant end before we are treated to the fantastically warped female vocal that gives the defining factor on 'Sing.' Following 'Plastic People's' clap-infused melodic wandering, we reach 'She Just Likes To Fight' which seems to capture the emotional undertones that lay covered throughout the whole LP in a heart-warming sense of utter contentment.

It seems the long wait for an LP was more than worth it as Four Tet delivers guides through a labyrinth of musical tastes and genres whilst never losing his way in experimentation or self indulgence. Pushing limits, but in an ear-pleasing way, 'There Is Love In You' is yet another reason to jump aboard Four Tet.

Review: Released back in 2003, Rounds was the third LP from Kieran Hebden as Four Tet and perhaps the first long player that widely established him as a pioneering voice within electronic music. Though it doesn't feel like a decade since it was released, Domino celebrate the album's tenth anniversary in requisite fashion here, reissuing it in double LP format and slipping in a CD of Four Tet performing live in Copenhagen in 2004. Listening back now, it's easy to understand why Rounds is viewed as an early classic in the Four Tet canon, transferring his love for free jazz records to a beat template that's more palatable on the ear (Fact pickers might want to know that Hebden recently revealed to Pitchfork the LP was made entirely from samples) "She Moves She" still sounds absolutely haunting too!

Review: Well, this many years into their tenure, Franz Ferdinand are certainly not short of hits, and it's a fine treat to have their best moments gathered into one release (not least with their razor sharp eye for graphic design wrapping things up very nicely indeed). From early singalong hits 'Take Me Out' and 'Darts Of Pleasure' weighing up against more recent fare, it's the perfect testament to one of the best bands to come out of Scotland in the 21st century, pressed up on red wax and with a 16-page booklet charting the band's story from back then to right now.

They are 'Billy Goodbye' and 'Curious' which has been co-produced by Alex Kapranos, Julian Corrie and Stuart Price. Elsewhere the big riffing, festival pleasing joys of 'Do You Want To' and 'Take Me Out' still hit the right spot.

Review: "I think we all have fears within us and fears that we confront in our life at different times ... and how we react to those fears is how we earn who we really are," Franz Ferdinand frontman Alex Kapranos told Apple Music's Hanuman Welch in an interview about The Humans of Fear, its catalysts and sources of inspiration. Sonically, this is typically bombastic and almost relentlessly upbeat, following in the footsteps of the Glasgow group's established sound. Which has, of course, changed over the years. So while we once had a thoroughbred indie rock band named after a racehorse and Archduke Ferdinand, over the last decade or two they have evolved into a far more electronic and synth-heavy outfit. On The Humans, Ferdinand seem to have measured the distance betwixt the two with more accuracy than ever, sticking their flag in the surface of a perfectly realised middle ground.

Review: Thanks to a superb eponymous debut album and a unique musical voice rooted in both skewed, lo-fi pop and four decades of electronic music culture, Georgia Barnes is an artist on the cusp of a major breakthrough. There's every chance that "Seeking Thrills", her latest album, will propel her further towards unlikely superstardom. It's a little more polished than some of Barnes' previous output, but the synths by and large sound analogue, the choruses are strong and there are occasional notable nods towards grime, post-punk pop and - in a more roundabout way - Daft Punk. An album worth picking up for sure.

Review: Julia Holter herself describes this new album as "the cacophony of the mind in a melting world," and it provides the American singer, songwriter with her first studio album since 2015's Have You In My Wilderness. Aviary is an intrigue to say the least and it's hard not to feel as if a horror-thematic runs throughout its 11 tracks, with moments of temporary insanity and distress intertwining with hair-raising spots a ghostly allure, and it's as if any lightness in the album has had to pass its way through a thicket of darkness first. There's much dissonance to be heard here too but in a pleasantly unsettling way akin to listening to an orchestra tune itself, and with all the deep and meaningful aspects behind Holter's inspirations, it's a hell of a ride.

Review: Julia Holter's sixth album Something in the Room She Moves might just be the Los Angeles songwriter's best work. In the past she has often explored memory and dreamlike futures but on this new outing she is very much more in the moment throughout. She explains herself hat "There's a corporeal focus, inspired by the complexity and transformability of our bodies." Musically the album mixes fretless electric bass pitches with her unique vocal melodies. The recognisable sounds of the Yamaha CS-60 interweave with more organic wind instruments and add up to a fluid, watery sound that flows smooth and carries you along with it amongst the gorgeous harmonies.

Review: Taking a new approach to a few tracks from his world-conquering Immunity LP, Jon Hopkins delivers some cosy, nocturnal alternatives to his usually wild and ranging bombast with a host of helping hands. "Immunity" is hushed down to a plaintive murmur fuelled by lingering piano notes with King Creosote on the mic, while Raphaelle Standell joins in on a low-frequency rumination of "Form By Firelight". Those vocal tracks sound positively lively in comparison to the "Asleep Versions" of "Breathe This Air" and "Open Eye Signal", which move with a glacial pace that befits Hopkins' pastoral style perfectly.

Review: We never quite know what to expect from leftfield explorer Jon Hopkins, but we know it will be worth a listen. Immunity, his fourth solo album (he's recorded two others, one with Brian Eno and another with King Creosote), doesn't disappoint. Rooted in shuffling, forthright and occasionally off-kilter rhythms, it melds hazy, late night atmospherics and subtle melodies with intense, droning chords, woozy electronics and all manner of inventive noises. It's a blend that repeatedly pays dividends, from the mournful pianos and jumpy rhythms of "Breathe This Air', to the crystalline, soundscape ambience of "Abandon Window", and glitchy wonkiness of "Form By Firelight".

Review: Much has been made of Jon Hopkins' intentions with his new album Music For Psychedelic Therapy, but whether you're a devoted tripper or a sober psychonaut his new album has plenty to offer. Of course Hopkins has more than proved himself over the years as a phenomenal producer and composer, but here he's replaced his brooding cinematic techscapes for blissful ambience draped in rich overtones and gently drifting patterns of melody and rhythm. It's wholly invigorating and relaxing, clearly designed to soothe the listener in stark contrast to the shock and awe he normally inspires amongst his considerable fan base.

Review: Freakout/Release is the eighth album from UK dance-pop-indie innovators Owen Clarke, Al Doyle, Joe Goddard, Felix Martin and Alexis Taylor, better known as Hot Chip. Now much love favs on record and in the live area for many years, the band still manages to reach new heights with this latest offering. It is a rich and resonating work that marks a new chapter for the group with flesh-and-blood songs that look to the future in all new ways. The album was written on the band's all-new Relax & Enjoy studio in East London and plenty of inspiration for it is said to have come from their own cover of Beastie Boys' 'Sabotage'.

Review: Junior Boys' second long player is their first to be released worldwide on Domino. Unique Canadian electronic pop digital disco. Junior Boys' new album will be available as a double gatefold LP, CD and digital download. Much as Daft Punk paid homage to 10cc and Godley and Creme, Junior Boys pay homage to Kraftwerk, Scritti Politti and "Violator"-era Depeche Mode. New limited single "In The Morning" has been receiving great reactions from clubs, tastemakers, press and radio. Fresh from playing a hugely anticipated sold out show at the Luminaire in London, Junior Boys embark on a series of dates as main support for Hot Chip during their UK tour in October. Radio 1 supporting at this early stage and with features forthcoming in NME, Uncut, DJ, Fact and many others, there appears to be a genuine buzz developing around Junior Boys.

Review: Sadly, the pandemic has stopped The Kills making much headway on their long-awaited sixth album, with Alison 'VV' Mosshart in Nashville and Jamie 'Hotel' Hince in LA and unable to work together on fresh material. Try not to panic, though, in the meantime one of the most original and unique bands in Anglo-American rock history have pieced together their alternative history to keep devout fans nourished.

Comprising rarities, B-sides and unreleased demos, Little Bastards proves just how vital the duo are within moments of you hitting play. Tracks like 'Raise Me' and 'Passion Is Accurate' would be at the top of most bands' hit lists, but here aren't even close to the biggest successes of the group, albeit both tracks (and everything here) match those hits for pure indie-punk-synth-drum machine goodness

It comes on rather fancy gold wax with a four page booklet that looks back to the record that established the band's aesthetic ahead of a long career. Eventually they took it as far as they could and then beyond. This album showcases their unique and definite blues and post-punk influences. This version has all the original tunes included and all have had a fresh new mix by the multiple Grammy Award-winning Tchad Blake.

Review: Melody van Kappers made quite the splash when she debuted Melody's Echo Chamber back in 2012. As a modern iteration of the shoegaze sound, she captured the dreamy mood while still retaining a bright and direct pop quality which helped her land with a wider audience. Ten years on, she's released just two other albums, one of which is this year's Emotional Eternal on Domino. It's a nice juncture to look back to where she started out, and what's apparent is how fully formed she was from the get go. For newer fans wanting to track back, they can enjoy the early days of her sound via gorgeous orange vinyl with an accompanying booklet that takes you into the heart of the record.

Review: Released in the first year of the pandemic, Ela Minus' first major breakthrough came in 2020, when Domino put out her debut record, Acts of Rebellion. Evidently the label was happy with the results, which saw the young Colombian electronic star carve out a corner of the global scene for herself. Five years on and we're back with the follow up. Reassuringly, everything and nothing has changed. Improvised jazz meets techno meets schoolyard Brat pop, trance, EDM and synth. Citing Kraftwerk as one of her key influences, you can also hear plenty of Daft Punk in here, and a little Charli XCX to boot. All of which might sound a little opportunistic, if she didn't radiate authenticity and already have a decade-long history of putting out futuristic and fun beats.

Review: Colombian producer and singer Ela Minus expands her sound on this new album, which is a bold follow-up to her 2020 debut Acts of Rebellion. While her first long player felt like an intimate late-night club reverie, this sophomore effort is introspective yet vast while revealing more of Ela as both an artist and person. It's an album about becoming and exploring self-discovery, resilience and the path forward after breaking. Across ten terrific tracks that have been mixed by Marta Salogni and mastered by Heba Kadry, Ela blends pop accessibility with experimental finesse while weaving radiant choruses into imaginative, intricate sonics. A great work that shows evolution while not abandoning her signature sounds.

Review: There are a whole host of My Bloody Valentine reissues landing at the moment after the band was signed by Domino. It all came digitally last year and now the physical release get some tidy sonic treatment and pressed to heavyweight vinyl. If you're reading this, you will already known that the band which is made up of Bilinda Butcher, Kevin Shields, Deb Googe and Colm o Ciosoig are quote possibly one of the most influential groups of the last four decades. Their second album Loveless came in 1991 and took big leaps forward from their debut in 1988. It's an album that still overwhelms your sense even today.

Review: First arriving in 1988, the debut album from My Bloody Valentine really is deserving of re-appraisal and reissue, albeit most musos out there won't have exactly forgotten it existed in the first place. Still, there are a whole lot of ears out there that were born too late and may not have discovered its wonders yet simply because they have far too much back catalogue greatness to unearth, and so this is a great opportunity to get stuck in, for want of better words.

The Irish dream pop and shoegaze pioneers do get pretty loud at times, but overall this is noise being used in a very different way to the vast majority of guitar styles before or since. Hence the record stunning critics of the day, with the sorely-missed Q magazine perhaps publishing the most apt description, from the mind of one Stuart Maconie: "The first full-length expression of this remarkable new sound: gossamer vocals and insinuating melodies glimpsed through sheets of blurred, opaque noise."

Review: Psychedelectronica done best. Animal Collective mega-mammal Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) teams up with E.A.R.'s lead brain and former Spaceman 3 lynchpin Sonic Boom (Pete Kember) for this weirdo's favourite collaborative album, melding influences from nostalgic Americana, warbly tape culture calamity, and even bolero into its tapestry. It truly 'Resets' the mind from preconceived notions we might have; 'Danger', for example, is a decidedly calm and tropical tune for proclaiming so loudly, 'I'm in danger'. Replete with good tunes, 'Reset' is an eccentric's goldmine.

Review: Now in their second decade as a band, it seems almost unthinkable that anyone should not have long-since fallen head over heels for Detroit's Protomartyr. The post-punk set stormed out of the starting blocks amid a niche but very notable resurgence in the sound, but years later have managed to continue staying relatively true to their remit, swerving any and every opportunity to reinvent in the hope of finding a spot on the next bandwagon, while still managing to avoid falling into repetitive pitfalls. Ever imaginative, in many ways Formal Growth In the Desert is their most uncompromising ode to the style we associate them with, and certainly reflects how close they can come to starting a full blow riot in your front room. Nevertheless, it's also packed full of tender moments, not least on closer 'The Author', an ode to iconic singer Joe Casey's late mother. A powerhouse band returning with a powerhouse record, even in its softest seconds.

Review: It took a full year to craft the latest from Real Estate, a year that was spent in upstate New York, at Marcata Recording. Hardly irrelevant background information, from the moment you press play the finesse of "The Main Thing" is immediately clear. This is a highly polished record on which every nuance and note has been deeply considered. Opening on the wonderfully poised and smooth "Friday", which boasts an intro that almost feels like the dawn of a new day, gentle guitars slowly growing and emerging into a dreamy, woozy delight, there's more than a hint of the 1960s to chords and lyricism. Perhaps conversely, shades of disco can be heard in "Paper Cup", a track that features Sylvan Esso as guests - strings invoking halcyon days of hedonism before things settle into a rolling, easy to love track. Similar nods to electronic ends are found in the beat of "Silent World", while "Procession" is a hazy summer afternoon spent lounging.

Review: Given the sharp left-turn that Shelley took with his solo career after leaving The Buzzcocks, it's sort of irrelevant if you're a fan of his seminal punk band or not. This second solo album - now reissued - is an entirely different kettle of fish. Whilst the 80s is famed for a lot of innocuous releases, due to the industry flush with cash, this stellar electro pop album - originally released in 1983 - stands the test of time: it's more experimental and artful than the run-of-the-mill chart-botherers of the time. This is a record that conveys Shelley's ability to write timeless, direct, hard-hitting singles ('Telephone Operator') and veer into more sprawling and adventurous arrangements ('What Was Heaven?') with the fluency of a true auteur. Producer Martin Rushent is due his flowers here, too, as it was his and Shelley's evolved embrace of innovative studio techniques during these sessions that set the bar for The Human League and other classic acts around the scene at the time.

Review: 'This Gift' is a whirlwind of tarnished sixties glamour and post-millennial celebrity culture, cult-films and literary classics.
Executed in contrasting honeyed and caustic tones, with the arresting songwriting and fervent performance that are
Sons & Daughters' trademarks. This is the product of the band's own characteristic intensity and the combative
challenge set by the albums famously uncompromising producer Bernard Butler. The album races from the rasping
'Gilt Complex', through the souring 'Split Lips' (featuring Robbie Stern of Cajun Dance Party on violin), to the Edwyn
Collins strut of 'The Nest', hitting driving garage rock on 'Rebel With The Ghost' via 60s girl-group stomps 'Darling'
and 'Flags', all along hinting at the band's ability to conjure up atmospheres of disturbing unease, most notably on
'Iodine' and the desert rock meets Gaelic war cry of the title track. Out on Domino.

Review: 2018's Devotion soon became a classic album from Tiraz, who finally follows it up with another instant winner. The album draws from the mindset of the producer during her first full year of playing live on the road, soon after she had given birth to her first child and not long before the arrival her second. As such the moods that are explored are not unexpected - thankfulness, recovery and the joy of new beginnings. The love that exists only between a child and their parent also colours this album which brings plenty of new ideas to alternative hip hop.

Review: Whoever wrote the release notes to Matthew E White's long-awaited return to the release schedule, take a bow. "Retro-futurist magic tricks," they say about his music. While the wording is abstract enough to border on nonsense, we're struggling to think of a better way to describe K Bay. It's constantly switching things up on you, producing one white rabbit from a black hat after another. Even expecting the unexpected can't save you from being consistently (and pleasantly) surprised.

Throughout the course of the record you'll find epic string balladry, 1980s pop, disco, funk, dad rock, acoustic guitar work, and marching band oddities. It's a varied celebration that truly summarises the musical era we are living in - best described simply as post modern. An age when the rules no longer apply because the charts are no longer relevant, leaving artists free to explore their creative ideas to the nth degree.

Recorded at RAK Studios The set covers material from all five of the band's acclaimed albums, that perhaps owing to their imminent closure, are played with a heightened freedom, immediacy and tightness. The renditions of '2BU', 'He The Colossus', and closer 'Celestial Creatures' stand out as some of the best versions the band have recorded, and singer Hayden Thorpe's soaring and diving vocals stand out and glow on this final foray. 'Last Night All My Dreams Came True' is a polished set, and a fitting swansong for one of the most well-loved bands on the British indie scene.

Review: James Yorkston certainly got the cream of Sweden's musical crop when he enlisted the services of The Second Hand Orchestra. In turn, clan leader Karl-Jonas Winqvist called upon the services of Peter, Bjorn & John's Peter Moren, Cecilia Osterholm, a Swedish nyckelharpa-playing great, piano and cello maestro Emma Nordenstam and expert violinist Ulrika Gyllenberg.

Accomplished would be one word to describe the fruits of their collective labour. 'Struggle', something of a centrepiece to the release, is tender, optimistic but also road-weary journeyman folk of the highest calibre. The sort of track that feels like it has been on your personal soundtrack forever. 'There Is No Upside' contrasts, an air of pessimism to the pacy, violin and vocal-led number and growing mania about its wild rhythm. 'Ella Mary Leather' opens the scoring with the piano equivalent of a dramatic chase sequence. And if you're not sold on it by now you never will be.
