Gondel Kino Bremen 1971
Cat: RANDB 162LP. Rel: 03 Apr 25
Heavy Metal Kids (12:23)
Ruckzuck (14:46)
Vom Himmel Hoch (14:58)
Ruckstoss Gondoliere (11:13)
Review: This release, which was recorded for Bremen Radio in 1971, features four extended tracks showcasing German pioneers Kraftwerk in a very different light from their later work. The short-lived lineup of Schneider, Rother and Dinger fused electric guitar with their then-signature electronic sounds and it gives rise to unusual, exciting and innovative music. Half of the tracks here, as hardcore fans will recognise, are drawn from their debut album, Kraftwerk 1, and the recording quality is excellent. This release also includes full recording details along with extensive sleeve notes that help offer a fascinating glimpse into Kraftwerk's early, experimental sound before their more iconic and pioneering electronic phase.

Summer (hand-stamped 7")
Cat: DYHP 011. Rel: 27 Apr 23
Summer (4:06)
Feel Bad Smile (4:46)
Review: Vocalist and poet Roger Robinson has connected with Jabu producer Amos for this new single which finds them explore new grounds. After their fuzzy lovers rock outing last time out, here they head off into space with more cosmic and zoned out sounds full of intimate and slo mo grooves. 'Summer' goes first and is a blissed out cut with ambient pads and lonely piano keys encouraging you to get lost in deep thought. 'Feel Bad Smile' is even more of a cosy late night cuddle, with spoken word mutterings and lingering notes breaking your heart each and every time.

Khandroma
Khandroma (LP + booklet with obi-strip)
Cat: UBK 001LP. Rel: 27 Jan 25
Kingdom Of Lo (12:17)
Chasing The Demon (12:36)
Review: Soundwalk Collective's their latest project is released by Ubi Ku, a new imprint focused on Buddhism, spirituality and contemporary creation. This immersive album draws inspiration from Tibetan deities and the Himalayan Plateau and is marbled with field recordings made in Upper Mustang, Nepal, in 2016. The collection blends natural sounds, bells, drones and vocals into spine-tingling sermons that also include a Patti Smith contribution to 'Chasing the Demon.' It makes for an expansive, emotive sonic tale that draws on deep research and fieldwork to make for a sublime intersection of sound, environment and spirituality that is utterly profound.

Review: As the title suggests, this vast, triple-CD box set from Cherry Red is an attempt to chronicle one of the most productive periods in the history of British experimental and avant-garde music: the years between the rise of punk in 1976 and the unofficial end of the post-punk era in 1984. It does a rather good job of it if truth be told, with the unnamed curators offering a brilliant mixture of guitar-based noise, trippy early electronica, weirdo ambient, dubbed-out jazz, spoken word oddness and clanking industrial music. There are plenty of big names present - Throbbing Gristle/Psychic TV, Test Department, Robert Fripp, 23 Skidoo, Clock DVA etc - alongside lesser-celebrated experimental heroes.
